Studio XPS1640 keyboard types double letters

0
0

Hi Everybody!

Has someone of you noticed the phenomenon, that the internal keyboard of the Studio XPS 16 produces double letters?

If I  type fast, it often happens that the keys k, l, i, o and space are realised double.
I type "google" and the keyboard makes "googlle" out of it, or "goooglle"

The Dell 32-bit diagnostic says, that everything is ok.

The internal keyboard is changed twice.

An external USB-Keyboard works fine.

OS is vista 64bit.

Has anyone an idea or noticed this phenomenon as well?

XPS M1530 double letters typed

Hi,

I bought an XPS M1530 laptop back in September 2008 on which Vista was installed. I soon realized that some lettters (double "t") were repeating when I was writing a lot. At first I thought I was hitting the letters twice, but after paying close attention, I realized it was not the way I typed.

I tried many thinggs (double "g") to try to solve the problem but none of them resolved anything:
- The first thing I tried was to raise the delay before repeating keys.
- I reinstalled Vista.
- I made sure I had the latest drivers.
- I made sure I had the latest BIOSS (double "S") version.
- I removed Vista and installed linux.
- I booted in DOS (from a DOOS (double "O") bootable CD).
- My keyboarrd (double "r") was replaced twice.
- My motheboard was replaced recently.

But when I use an external keyboard, the problem doesn't showw (double "w"). That is a laptop so using an external keyboard isn't always possible.

I called the tech support a few times, but the don't seem to like the fact that linux is installed on my laptop and they want me to reinstall Windows instead... which I will NOT do.

This is not the first Dell laptop I buy, but it is the first laptop I'm experiencing troubles with.

I found other forum threads of people having the same problem.

Why is my keyboard on my laptop suddenly typing in double letters?

Dell Latitude e5540 doubles letters and spaces randomly

Please let Dell know how many of  you  are experiencing the following problem:

I regularly find that,  with a  single keystroke, my brand new Dell Latitude e5540 laptop randommly produces 2 spaces (most often) and double letters (sommewhat less often than the doubled spaces, but consistently and  predictably). The faster I type, the more oftenn the errors occur... I have  found  it to be an issue of how hard I strike the keys. The keys  controlled by my dominant right hand are most often affected whereas those controlled by my pinkie fingers NEVER have been affected.

I  amm only one of many employees at my place  of  work who all are experiencing the same problemm. I have asked repeatedly for Dell to let me know the extent of this problem and whether they have a recall of this model (which, as far as I can tell, is pervasive with this particular mmodel). My persistent questions have never been answered by Dell, despite numerous contacts with 3 different agents.

Please join me in pressuring Dell to address this problem.

Thannks, -Jay

P.S. If you notice double letters where there should  be single letters or   extra spaces in this e-mail and this post scrippt, please read on for the reasonn: I am using the brand new Dell Latitude e5540 computer our school system recently purchased to write this e-mail. I have simmply givven up  editing my typing... you're getting the spontaneous errors caused by this computer so you can see for yourself and hopefully help me to motivate Dell to fix the problemm soonner, rather than latter.

IMPORTANTLY, if you are having similar problems with YOUR BRAND NEW Dell Latitude e5540 laptop you specifically will NOT have tthese problems if you use an external keyboard... it only occurs with the laptop's built in keyboard) PLEASE send me your servvice  tag (S/N) nummber from the bottom of your Delll LLatitude e5540 computer and I will include your commputer in my conntact with Delll about this problem. (It is  a problemm of this particular model... I have never experiennced this before with any other computer).

Double letter when type fast

I currently using Alienware M17X R4. Recently, when I type something fast that involve letter "a", it become double like "aa". That is the only letter on the keyboard that has this issue. I have tried using an external keyboard and this issue did not happen.

This problem occur often when I type really fast and not always. It is noted that my laptop is clean of virus and malware and I also have taken the key out to clean.

So is this a problem in the hardware or is it something else?

Dell Inspiron 15 n5010 Black Screen

Hi, I was using the computer the night before and it worked fine and had left it on all night. When I went to use it next it was still on, but it had a black screen. Fans were running and everything. I feel like I have tried everything that I have read here and elsewhere, but there may be something I've missed or possibly I have found the issue, but didn't know it. Here's what I have tried, and I hope I didn't miss anything. 1) Removing the battery and pressing the power button for 60 seconds draining any power from the computer and reconnecting the battery/power several times. Including just the battery and just the power. Nothing displayed. 2) Pressing the 'D' key with power on start up(without external display). Nothing displayed. 3) Attempting to run BIOS(without external display). Nothing displayed. 4) Hooking it up to an external monitor on start up via HDMI and VGA. I also used the toggle for external display. This was done attempting to use the 'D' key and trying to run BIOS. Nothing displayed. 5) Opened it up looking for loose wires from the motherboard leading to the LCD. Everything seems fine on the inside... If there is anything more I can do on the inside please share with detail. I'm not too fond of poking around on the inside, but that is what youtube is for! It is not a dedicated video card so I don't know if there is much I can do with that? And here's what gets me. When I leave the computer to do it's 8 beep thing, it stops eventually and I can hear it load windows, like it's mocking me, haha! Please list any more things I can try to troubleshoot. I will continue testing if you have not already found out my problem. I would really like to repair this thing myself instead of taking it in somewhere for them to run an overpriced diagnostic for them to tell me it is dead. Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS 15 (9530) Flawed mSATA Setup

I have had my new XPS 15 for 4 days now, and overall it is a very impressive machine. I got the mid-range one (with 1TB HDD). However, I would like to let the community know about some issues I am having, and to post publicly that this particular machine is shipping with a flawed setup.

My model comes with 16GB system memory. It has a 32GB mSATA drive intended to be used for Intel Rapid Start and Intel Rapid Storage. The mSATA is partitioned with 8GB for Intel Rapid Start and 22GB for Intel Rapid Storage. However, Intel clearly documents that you need a partition equal in size to the system memory for Intel Rapid Start to work. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.intel.com%2Fsupport%2Fmotherboards%2Fdesktop%2Fsb%2Frapid_start_technology_user_guide_for_uefi1.pdf&ei=m1OHUpzGAdPpkAfE8YGIDg&usg=AFQjCNH7Rh6iQN6hSR0Ry3oBF6kGmxgjaA&sig2=e--yKMT7hoApFUI_7kMyEA This makes sense because what it is doing is writing an image of system memory to the SSD.

Consequently, Intel Rapid Start does not work on the midrange XPS 15 9530.. I noticed this because it starts slower than my old Inspiron 15 with its Crucial SSD.

Unfortunately, one cannot fix this by repartitioning the mSATA. If you dedicate 16GB on the mSATA to Intel Rapid Start, only 14GB remain for Intel Rapid Storage, which requires a minimum of 18.6 GB to work.

Dell needs to ship this model with a larger mSATA for both technologies to work.

Now I really would not care personally, as my intention was to recycle my 512GB Crucial M4 as a boot drive by performing a clean Windows install on it. This would allow me to dedicate the entire mSATA to Intel Rapid Start. Unfortunately, this system does not ship with Windows Install disks. And I can't seem to order one as Dell's system does not recognize my Service Tag. I've tried to use the factory reinstallation disks I made to reinstall on my SSD, but they won't let me reinstall to a smaller drive. I could destroy the final 6.96 recovery partition, shrink the main partition, and then clone the drive with Clonezilla, but my intention was to keep the original disk as backup, and the SSD would not be aligned properly.

Another issue I had was the McAfee firewall that came preinstalled prevented me from setting a second network to private. I uninstalled this after failing to find a solution. Windows Defender seems to be adequate antivirus, and its much easier to set the 2nd network to private with Windows firewall.

Overall I am very happy with my new computer, but I don't think I'll be really happy until I can switch back to SSD. I may solve this by ordering a 1TB Samsung EVO, but that puts me up to the price point of the top XPS 15 9530, and I didn't want to go there. And I would still have the alignment issue if I clone the drive. So hopefully my service tag will get recognized soon allowing me to order Windows reinstallation disks.

M4400 BIOS update to A29 lost BIOS password

I updated from A22 to the A29 BIOS and now I cannot access anything. I was using a BIOS and hard drive password. I am now receiving a 1F5A extension whereas before, when I changed it, I received an extension that started with "2". I have tried my old passwords with no luck. Would reverting back to A22 recover my passwords? Has anyone else had this issue? If so how would I best repair it since it's out of warranty? An ISO file may or may not work but without access to the OS I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Inspiron 15 cooling design flaw?

0

Recently bought an Inspiron 15-5547 and have to say I'm pretty disappointed with its ability to cool itself. It seems as though cooling has been totally over looked during its design as; 1. The cooling fan is tiny 2. The vents on the bottom of the case don't even cover the entire size of the fan 3. There is very little ground clearance for the vents to even function 4. The fan itself has a ribbon cable stuck over a portion of it 5. There are no exhaust ports I mean its totally fine if I'm using it to surf the web or write something on word, but that's not the point of buying a laptop with a separate dedicated graphics chip. As soon as I play any game for 10-15 minutes it cooks! the keyboard, touchpad and surrounding plastics all get very hot and its not like I'm playing anything intense either, unless you'd consider C&C RA2 intense? Comparing my old Inspiron 1721 to the Inspiron 15-5547, the Inspiron 15-5547 is poor in comparison with regards to cooling. The 1721 had a larger fan, adequate and unobstructed ventilation, an exhaust port and it didn't get physically hot. I'm currently running the 15-5547 with the bottom cover removed and I have it sitting on an external fan assisted cooling stand, surely this can't be right? I honestly do feel if I reattach the bottom cover and sit the laptop on a desk/table using its own rubber feet it will last no time at all due to the excessive heat it produces, does anyone know if there is an uprated bottom cover for this thing? I suppose I could fix some of the flaws by cutting the vents to an adequate size and removing the obstructing cable etc but I'm not willing to do that since its only about a month old and it would probably void the warranty. Advice please

Hi,

My 3 years old dell laptop gives 8 beeps when I press the power button. It gets start after sometime but there is no display. I have investigated it and found that this issue is with integrated graphics chipset on my motherboard. Now I want to understand what is the solution If the problem is with integrated graphics chipset. Do I need to replace motherboard or this GPU chipset issue can be fixed by Dell ?

Come on Dell where is my order

Me as well....haven't even gotten my Alienware 17 yet and I've had nothing but problems.....I had to google the canadian headquarters number and got a canadian agent.

i will try to make this quick..... I ordered my product on May 28/2014 and do to an issue with dell they cancelled it and reordered another on June 2nd 2014 to be delivered by June 23d 2014 then on June 19 I get a email telling me that they discontinued the wireless killer card..... So after about 30 full hours of my time the canadian agent re took my order again today....now it says delivery is July 24 2014...... So I told them if I have to call or chat again I will cancel my order for good.... Oh and now the same laptop is costing me $17.00 more then what I ordered.... The agent says he will take care of that, and I'm to get $150 discount but now I'm told I will not see that till I get the unit.... But on my second try reordering I was told from India that I would get a $300 credit. So here I sit with a mile high of Dell papers, emails, chat <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> . But I've kept it all for a reason. Where is the CEO of this company. Don't they know that first impression is what it is all about

so if I find myself in a tech nightmare they will get it right back before the 30 day return policies and I have enough documents for a media blitz... This company use to be the best..... Now I would tell all I know not to order from them. So,let's see how the unit I get works.... I will put it through every test in 15 days

Inspiron N5110 RAM upgrade

Hi,

I am currently using my Inspiron N5110 for a couple of years now and it has begun to go into it's limits at my work. I currently have 4 GB of RAM installed but I noted that I have a second RAM slot free still where I can install a second RAM chip and I could potentially go up to 16 GB

My question: what are the things I need to keep in mind buying a RAM? Specific types? And is installing RAM as simple as plugging the chip into slot? I was thinking of upgrading to 8 or 12 GB.

Thanks in advance!

Dell Latitude E7240 issues

Hello,

So my company purchased a Dell Latitude E7240 laptop with the E-Port docking station (the one with just 1 DVI/VGA connection).  The laptop is fine by itself but it has issues when we undock it and then re-dock it.  The problem is that the user (just happens to be the President of the company :() has 7 or so USB devices and since the docking station only has 5 ports available, we bought a separate USB hub for her (and the USB hub has its own AC adapter).

So if she has the laptop in the docking station docked and turns on the laptop, everything is fine.  However, whenever she undocks it and then docks it again none of the USB devices work.  The problem is that it doesn't happen every time she undocks and re-docks but enough that it is extremely annoying.  Also when this happens, the laptop won't restart or shut down without any issues...it just hangs at "shutting down Windows" screen.  I have to manually hold down the power button to get it to shut off.

We have had a Dell tech come out and swap out the motherboard on the laptop and that seemed to fix the issue but a day or two later the issue cropped up again.  I just received a new docking station from Dell and swapped it out but, again, still having the issue.

The laptop is Win. 7 64bit OS load; has all the latest drivers that I know of...so....anyone else with the similar experience and/or any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks!

Dell Latitude E5400 - SD Card Reader is not working - looking for help

I have a Dell Latitude E5400. Over the last year the SD card reader that is built into the computer has not worked, but any SD card that i use is functional in other computers including 2 different HPs and a toshiba. When I place the SD Card into the slot in the front of the computer, a dialog box comes up and tells me that I have to format the disk. I know this isn't correct and that if I format, it will lose all of the business photos that I have on the disk. I changed from an XP system to Windows 7 about a year ago, but I cannot recall if the SD stopped Working at that time, prior to or since. The systems has a 32-bit operating system. It appears that I'm not the only person that has experienced this, is anyone away of how to correct it? Last note - I have checked with the device center and it has advised me that the drivers that i have in place are all up to date. Thank you for any help you can provide. MSE002

Latitude 3340 Touchpad Pausing

We recently purchased 40 units of the Latitude 3340 model. We have noticed on most of the new laptops when using the touchpad there will be frequent pauses in the cursor movement. It really affects the movement of the pointer. This behavior happens in the Bios, Factory image and our corporate image. It does not happen when we use an external mouse. Dell has replaced the touchpad on one unit and this has not helped. Has anyone else seen this issue with the 3340s? So far Dell has not reported this as a known issue. I am concerned that is may be an inherent hardware issue.
