Dell XPS 15 Haswell 9530 - Problem #2 STARTUP! (DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION)

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks now.  My first problem was documented here and resolved after Dell replaced the touchpad:

Since I've had the computer, I've been having trouble during start-up (usually from Sleep mode).  Occasionally the laptop won't fire-up again and I'll get the following error:  "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION"

Is this something that is normal for Windows 8.1 laptops?!  The notification then said that the laptop had to rubuild its "metadata"... This has now probably happened about a dozen times since I've had the laptop.

I was not happy with the fact that I needed to get new hardware installed after having the laptop for two days.... and I'm certainly not happy about the probelms with start-up.  Honestly, for the price I paid for this thing ($2K+), it should run flawlessly.  

A secondary problem happened this morning... the touch screen stopped working.  Admitedly, the laptop was running hot due to inadequate ventilation, but should that cause the touchscreen to stop working?  It fixed itself after I rebooted.

I am having an issue with my Dell Backup and Recovery -- I asked the chat specialist to send me the factory disc -- instead he sends me the OS Disc -- In which i was not happy about... 

Can someone tell me how I can get my recovery partition back or the Factory Disc?

My wife's new Inspiron 15R (5537), shipped 5/13/2014, has a full face cracked touch screen.

Can I purchase a replacement touch screen from Dell?  If so, how to go about this?

This is my wife's work computer.  Is it possible this could be covered by Dell since it's brand new with such an early failure?  I've bought at least 8 Dell computers over the years.  I'm hoping that being a repeat customer might have Dell consider a possible hardware warranty in this case.

Problems with loging into Windows 8.1 using PIN and not password

I purchased a Dell Venue 11 Pro with WIndows 8.1. I would like to log in using a 4-digit PIN instead of having to type out my password, but it does not seem to work. The only text entry field is asking for a password, and I have tried entering my PIN there with message saying wrong password. Is there supposed to be a separate text box?

First of all let me start off by saying I am clueless as far as computers and hardware/software, drivers etc. , so if anyone has any suggestions, please be gentle and explain in very simple terms :) My problem is, my computer will not work wirelessly. When I connect the Ethernet cable, I am able to go online but that is it. The icon in the bottom right sometimes has the yellow exclamation point and says Limited Access, other times it will show that I am connected until I try to access the internet. I have Comcast for my internet provider and after a very long call with tech support, came to the conclusion that the problem is with my computer. I then called Dell and due to no warranty got no assistance. Also, in case it is relevant, I checked my network drivers (not sure how I even found them to check) and it says they are working fine. I purchased this laptop with Windows 7 but have upgraded it to Windows 8.1. I was going to do a factory reset but am afraid I will go back to Windows 7 if I do that so if someone, anyone can help me get online wirelessly I will be truly grateful! Thanx in advance Janell

Clicking noise & trouble booting

I have a Inspiron 15R N5110. When I boot up there is a clicking noise and the attached file shows the error message. I have run the diagnostic test at boot-up and it does say it can't detect a hard drive but I can still get the laptop to boot up after 2 or 3 attempts so it can't have failed entirely. I have dismantled the laptop to see if the hard drive was loose in its casing but it wasn't.

I'm not sure what else to check for or should I just prepare for hard drive failure?


Inspiron 1520 memory upgrade causes crashes

I upgraded my OS from Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit by doing a reformat. My computer was running smoothly after this upgrade.

Afterward, I upgraded my ram from 2GB (2x1GB) 2Rx8 PC2-5300S-555-12 (factory) to 4GB (2x2GB) DELL DDR2-800 SODIMM Laptop Memory PC2-6400 Ram.

My computer recognizes the 4GB of memory and runs quicker, but it has been crashing once every couple of days. I have a memory dump file that I can't attach to the post. I attached the system data file. 

I'd appreciate any help or guidance concerning this issue.

Hello,

Today I have upgraded my Dell Inspirion N7010 from 3Gb Ram to 8Gb, 4+4Gb to have a dual mode RAM running and to have a 64 bit system installed. 

However when I insert Windows 7 installation CD after "Windows is loading files", on "Starting Windows" laptop restarts without any error message.

I have tried 2 different installation CD's, tried to wipe C: drive, tried to install both 32 and 64 bit system, tried to restore default setting in BIOS, tried to change SATA settings but still the same

also I've tried to remove one 4Gb RAM but still no go... but in this case I have blue screen with error message PFN_LIST_CORRUPT...

I have spent half of the day trying to resolve the puzzle but without success..

any suggestions?

I purchased an alienware laptop a few years ago to do my architecture work and right from the start I have been having a battle with the amount of space on my C drive (50 GB) compared to the amount on my D drive (1TB). My computer runs off my C Drive and I constantly have to work around the amount of disk space I have. everything I save goes onto my D drive except programs which refuse to be loaded onto it. Why is this...? I really want to try and fix this problem.

Hi, I have Dell Inspiron 17R SE (7720). The current configration of my laptop is (1TB, 5400 RPM, HDD), 32GB mSATA, 8GB RAM and i7 Processor. I am planning to do the following: 1/ Upgrading the RAM from 8GB to 16 GB. >>> Crucial Memory RAM. 2/ Adding SSD (since this 17R SE has two slots for Hard Drive, Can I install two SSD ? I am thinking about installing 1TB SSD+1TB SSD or 500GB SSD + 500GB SSD ). What is your advice about this Upgrade ? Regards

Bluetooth driver fails to install on Inspiron 15

Bluetooth does not work on this computer. Never has. My "Action Center" in tray said "Bluetooth not working". I click that. Screen says "Your Bluetooth driver has stopped functioning. There is a new driver that will fix this. Click here to install". I started the install. I elected "download and run" the file. InstallShield starts installation and says "Installing driver, please wait a moment". I waited 30 minutes. The progress bar never moved! I finally ended the task using Task Manager. Bluetooth still does not work. When I turn it on in Win 8.1 Settings, it starts searching for my cell phone (which is in discoverable mode) but the two never find each other. Help please.

I am trying to replace my HDD with a Crucial 120 GB SSD. Would I be able to do a fresh installation using the product key from the OEM or do I need to clone the HDD? If I am able to do a fresh installation, how would I go about doing that?

Powers up light on fan runs  but nothing else screen black after few minutes fan  speeds up and dies down. Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 won't boot SOS

When I turn on my laptop the dell logo appears and when I push f2, f8, or f12 a bar appears at the bottom of the screen that fills up blue. On the bottom right corner of the screen are f2 setup and f12 boot options. From this screen nothing happens. I've tried pushing f2 or f12 repeatedly after pushing the power button and nothing works. I've also tried removing the battery and holding down the power button with no results. I cannot get any further than this screen no matter what I try. Please help!

XPS12 Won't reboot after shutdown

I was working on my computer earlier today and it shutdown without warning and when I tried to reboot it multiple times and it just won't power up. I tried it with and without the power cord to make sure that was not the problem. The battery was not down as it had about an hour's worth of charge when it shutdown. Please advice if I need to have it serviced or how to fix the problem on my own.

My Inspiron 15, beeps 4 times, in 2 intervals and then 3 times once, and then it just turns off. My screen usually just stays black, but sometimes the Dell starting up logo can be seen. Also the it sounds like it starting to start up, but then just stops. It was in the rain for less than a second, but other than that I don't see any reasonable explanations for it to be broken. Help?

I just bought a pair of Inspiron 11 3000's and am almost finished "down" grading the o/s from Windows 8 to 7 Pro. I have all of the drivers loaded and working except for a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (listed under Other devices). Can anyone help me find the Windows 7 driver for this? The Unknown Devices program shows it as Dell and Intel Corporation.
