I recently replaced the hard drive on my XPS L502X...it worked fine but then all of a sudden the computer wouldn't boot. I took a peek underneath the keyboard and unplugged the cable from the track pad to the motherboard and then it booted fine but whenever the cable would touch the board the computer would shut off and wouldn't turn back on.
Should I just buy a new ribbon cable for it? The cable doesn't look to be damaged.
Thanks
I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.
I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.
Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.
Hello Community,
2 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).
Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day - they are giving me a headache.
There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.
Whats the issue here? My internal support team said deal with it. Is there an issue with the hardware though? Its brand new.
Cheers,
The screen for my laptop has changed into a strange color scheme and i can't see to fix it with any of the settings through the computer. As you can see from the test image in the setting screen in the picture, it's almost like an "x-ray" effect. I'm not sure how it happened in the first place. Taking a screenshot and sending it to another computer shows the color completely normal. I took a pic of what the desktop looks like with my phone.
Anyone have any idea how to reset the screen itself, or just fix this issue in general?
So my daughter's laptop will not power on. When you press the power button, you can feel the fan kick on for about 3-5 seconds, then it stops. The power / CPU power LEDs light when it tries to start then it goes back to only the power LED.
I have tried:
* removing/reinstalling a known good battery
* holding the power button for 20 seconds (with the battery removed) and then powering it up
* using just a known good good power supply (without the battery installed)
* reset the CMOS battery and the memory sticks
I haven't found any additional suggestions on line ... so hoping that someone has a few more tricks up their sleeves. (we have another of the same model laptop in the house - which I borrowed the battery and power supply from - since I know that they work.) Any and All suggestions welcome.
Purchased this i7,8GB "beast" a week ago and I gotta say - I am disappointed! My 3 year old HP Pavilion dv7-6c54ea which comes with an i5 and 6GB of RAM outperforms this thing in every department. Why is this thing so sluggish? Simply browsing the net of Firefox causes lag when switching between tabs. If I have to download a file larger that 10GB, I've got to wait about 5 minutes for the file to get created on the hard-disk. Watching a video means having to wait a few seconds before it starts playing. Everything is lag lag lag.
Diagnostics reveal no faults. Is this a Window 8 issue? Or is the hard-disk read access really this bad? I've downloaded all the drivers on the DELL site and still no improvement whatsoever.
What gives?
Long story short, I had to blind flash my bios and it didn't work and I bricked my comp, I already have a programmed bios chip but I was wonder if anyone has a diagram of the location of the chip so that I can replace it please.
i would appreciate any help and thank you in advance.
Hey Guys,
Well I've had my Dell xps for about 3 years and a half now but about a week and a half ago I started getting the Blue screen,at the start these would be a day apart but as the days wore on they became a few hours apart until the laptop started into a loop.
By loop I mean,I would power up the laptop and startup repair would start,it would not be able to repair any problem so the laptop would either restart or shutdown, again when it started up again it go back into startup repair and so on,sometimes it didn't and windows loaded but not long after I'd get the blue screen.
So I tried a system restore back to earlier again point but that didn't work(blue screen again),eventually I tried a full system wipe back to factory settings.
This seemed to work but only after a few hours it was back to a blue screen.
So it the laptop broken or can it be sent off for repairs?

my next upgrade is an SSD but.
i have a question, Would it be possible to get a backlit version of the keyboard that comes on this laptop?

I'm running Windows 7 Home and I get BSOD wiht error:
Stop: 0x0000007B (0FFFFF880009A97E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)
I doesn't allow me to boot into windows via safe mode. I have tried the "repair your computer" option twice and I still get the error message after doing the system recovery (wiping the drive clean). In the BIOS next to SATA Operation it is set to ATA.
Thanks in advance for any help
Hello Dell I'm having a issue with my touch screen with my laptop it's randomly clicking/pressing every where and I'm not even touching the screen it's rapidly going up and down touching random apps and it's really annoying if i can get a fix that'll be great I need one as quickly as possible
Received a new from Dell 17R. Arrived in less than 24 hrs. Amazing.
The first thing I do with a new machine is create the factory restore discs and then replace the HD with a new and faster drive. Then restore. That way I know the discs are good and I can restore when the HD fails.
This time it did not recognize disc #2. Made new discs, cleaned the partitions off the spare drive and tried it again. Same problem. Did not recognize Disc #2. Put the spare drive in a 15R that I have and the restore went fine. Tried again on the 17R and failed at Disc #2. Tried it with a USB attached drive and it restored fine, Bad drive. Dell overnighted a drive. Same thing. Only thing left is the motherboard. Dell sent a tech to replace the motherboard. Same problem. Restore fails.
A supervisor at Dell Support decided to replace the machine. Overnighted it. I did the same thing and it fails the exact same way. Hangs at 38% and saying to insert disc #2. Understand that I am VERY experienced (37 yrs field service with IBM). I have done thia process many times on a variety of machines.
Anybody have an idea what could cause this? I tried downflashing from Bios A07 to A06 and same result.
In addition the Bluetooth loses the mouse quite frequently. Probably due to having an Inter N 7260 wireless.
Hello.
I recently can not receive any files via bluetooth. Everything was working fine and all of a sudden it does not work. It does send files but doesn't receive. I tried checking to see if there was a driver update, my driver is up to date. Also tried turning on/off the signal. In the bluetooth settings tried checking the box that says "Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer" and any other box that allows connection is checked so I don't know what's wrong, please help :(
My laptop is the Dell inspiron N5110. I'm running Windows 7. My bluetooth device is from Intel Corporation.
I ran the troubleshooting and it did find something I'll leave the attachment below.
