How to disable Inspiron 5520 touchpad?

I'm typing this the second time because the cursor jumped around and finally erased what I had written. I use a wireless mouse but it doesn't disable the touchpad. The only thing I have found mentioning the subject was to press Fn and F3, but when I do this it has no effect. If anyone has any other ideas, I'd appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

Latitude E6520 SM Bus Controller

I'm having problems after a reinstall

Dell Latitue e6520 +wireless +bluetooth +hspa

Windows7 x64 sp1

My last install worked fine, however this time (this is my 3rd install in 2 days) will not no matter how i try install a driver for SM Bus Controller.  As a result the HSPA driver doesn't install correctly as there's no active SM.

I never used to have problems obtaining drivers from Dell, however since they've changed their website for support I'm not able to download any chipset drivers that work on this device.

I've tried the analyse system through the website several times, searched the internet for drivers, Tried the Intel driver detect app, the dell client system update (which say's there's no updates available even though I've got devices without drivers.

Any Idea's or am I to explain to my HOD that we'll have to start getting HP laptops, as they might actually work.

XPS 15 (L521x) supporting SATA3?

In my XPS 15 (L521x), bought on Dec 2012, the HD capable of SATA3 transfers is working as a SATA2 drive: it's a Samsung 512 Mb SSD installed by Dell. OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The BIOS is the latest version. The discovered transfer protocol, SATA2, doesn't change with or without intel Rapid Storage (currently not installed). The controller is set in the AHCI mode in the BIOS.

Dell Inspiron 15 (3537) weird noise and sleep mode not working.

So, I recently bought a new laptop from a local store and now I've ran into few problems.

First one is that the computer is making high pitched noise. It sounds like there are some electricity problems so at first I thought it was the battery or something around that. But you can't always hear the sound, sometimes it is so low you won't even notice it. It was really weird so I started listening more closely and I heard it coming from the middle area of the laptop where I think the processor should be. What is more, the sound gets louder when using more demanding programs for example when I play some of the latest games then there is a constant sound but the sound is gone when there is a brief lagspike or when I alt-tab from the game. Or when I work in Photoshop, then there is that sound when I zoom in and out for example. But yea, can't hear much when I'm on desktop or just browsing internet. So, any thoughts on that?

Here is the second problem. I think this must be more operating system error rather than hardware but anyway, when I got my computer, I updated windows 8 to 8.1 and after that there appeared a problem with shutdowns and sleep mode. Both of those things just did not work. The screen just went black, the  indicator lights stayed on and I could still hear the fan and harddrive working. Few times I tried waiting which I did for atleast 15 minutes, sometimes maybe even more but in the end I always had to force shutdown. I actually found a solution to the shutdown problem on the internet. I had to disable hibernation in command prompt and now computer shuts down like it should but the sleep mode problem still persists. I guess I could just disable sleep mode but then I would have to choose between fast returns to my work and power saving. I'm still trying to search internet for solutions to this but maybe someone here already has some tips or answers.

Any help will be appreciated.

Does anyone know if the Latitude E7240 can support two external displays without a dock? Can you have one plugged in to the mini displayport and one in to HDMI and output just to these displays?

Or is it limited to just the laptop display and one single external display?

My Dell Insprion M5010 will not boot.  When I try to turn it on, it beeps 7 times.

DELL laptop warranty upgrade/renew in Pakistan

Hello,

So here is my story. I went to DASP (dell authorized service provider) in Pakistan to extend my inspiron 7520 laptop warranty. They said they only extend the warranty for corporate clients and for business users. So i went online on dell website and it said that since Laptop was purchased from Pakistan so its not possible to renew warranty online for non US customers. I called at Dell call center, my call landed in US and they said they can do nothing as this Laptop is outside US. So is it a dead end, If I have purchased a laptop for personal use in Pakistan , Can not I upgrade its warranty if its still in warranty ???

Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

Thanks

Hard Drive Causing Backup Error Messages

$

This post is to relay my experience in trying to solve backup errors occurring during system and file backups. Hopefully, my experience may help someone else who has reached the point of frustration in trying to perform a successful backup. The machine is an Intel based laptop with an i7 CPU running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and a 750 GB, 7200 RPM drive. In January of this year I began receiving error messages during my normal backup sessions. My first reaction was to think the errors were being caused by a change in software. Windows updates, new software installations and malware all with the potential of causing errors. All of the backup fix recommendations provided on various forums and support sites including Microsoft's dealing with backup related error messages were performed to no avail. Of particular note running CHKDSK reported a few fixes and DISK MANAGEMENT reported drive C: was healthy but backup continued to fail. More on this later. My next attempt was to start from scratch, reinstalling the system and user files. Needless to say the reinstall from the recovery disk put the machine back to "OEM" settings. The system and user files were reinstalled, updated and appeared to be working normally so I ran backup. You guessed it, backup failed. To protect my user files I used ROBOCOPY for backup and just about gave up trying to make a system backup. Sometime later as I was working a message window popped up stating a scheduled hardware scan was going to begin in 10 minutes. Fortunately, the reinstall turned on PC Doctor which came preinstalled from the OEM. At some point in time I had turned the scan off to continue working on something and forgot to turn it back on. I let the hardware scan run and to my surprise the scan reported that the hard drive was failing. To confirm this situation I went to the drive manufacturer's website to download their diagnostic tool. The drive actually continued failing during the diagnostic test. Solution to the backup errors was to replace the hard drive. Lessons learned: 1. Do not assume backup errors are caused by software. Don't depend totally upon CHKDSK to determine the status of your hard drive. Download the manufacture's diagnostic tool and test your drive before going through all of the frustrations encountered when trying to find a software solution. The diagnostic tools are easy to download, not large and fairly user friendly. Some of the tests take a while to run with the time dependent upon the size of your drive. Running the diagnostic tool will quickly determine if your hard drive is healthy. 2. Take notice of physical changes which may be occurring. My laptop has the hard drive tucked away in the lower left hand corner of the case. It's location appears to provide little air flow if any so the drive runs warm when usage is high. At the time, not knowing the drive's location, I wasn't sure what was causing the heating of this surface area. Just prior to the backup errors occurring the surface above the drive was getting hot to the point of irritating the palm of my left hand. If your machine is a laptop with high drive usage, as is mine, maybe a failing drive is causing backup errors. My laptop, 2-1/2 years old with 11,000+ hours on the OEM drive, failed due to overheating. The new drive is from a different manufacture but I suspect this drive will also fail in the not too distant future due to a really bad case design. To keep your sanity you need to have a good system backup. Although time consuming a full system backup does make it easy to install a new drive. I was lucky to have one.

Hi,

My DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 touchpad stopped working after update to Win 8.1 .
Tried uninstalling/installing the device driver again.
Even downloaded the touchpad driver from dell site (named as Touchpad_Elantech_W8.1_A00_Setup-P2WXC_ZPE ) for Win 8.1
My Device Manager shows Dell Touchpad (only entry under Mice and other pointing device) with Yellow Exclamation

Also tried everything stated here

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

$

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

Touch Screen Issues - E7240

I just got an E7240 with touch screen and I'm having issues with it working.

Basically, it works fine, but only after I run the My Dell checkup software and run the touch screen check first... if I reboot, then it no longer works until i run My Dell checkup again!

Is there some software that should be kicking in at startup or some other way to activate it? I havent managed to find any other way to get it to work!!

Thanks

EDIT: Seems a little more deep routed as just left the laptop a while and it seems to lose the touchscreen after a while or after the laptop has been locked.
