Inspiron 5100 DC Supply

$

I have an Inspiron 5100 with a triangular DC socket which I'm lead to believe is a PS-9.

I've tried various universal supply which unfortunately won't power the laptop. Research suggests although physically identical, on the ps-9 one of the pins in connected telling the MB a charger is connected.

Could anyone please provide me with the pinouts, so I might be able to adapt the supply 'tricking' the MB into believing the correct charger in connected?

Dell M5030 Motherboard Failure, 4 times + horrible tech support

Dell Inspiron M5030

Timeline of events:

Display failure, Manufacturer Defect While in warranty

Returned for repair

Received computer in working condition for one day

Turned computer on next day, blank screen, 7 beeps (Motherboard Failure)

Returned for repair

Received computer in working condition for one day, again.

Persisted problem, blank screen, 7 beeps.

When I sent it in, each time I received a 90 day warranty for the repaired computer, That being said, It is fact that the computer would only work for one day, the next day the problem persisted every time I got it back from the repair facility. I haven't touched the computer because it was a waste of time. Today I called, explained my situation, and was offered a repair for $320 + tax. I asked why i had to pay for it and was told that my warranty had expired. The computer did not live for a day, much less 90, so I fail to understand why I have been offered a $320 repair service due to an expired warranty. The computer did not survive a 90 day period. Another reason I won't pay a ridiculous amount of money for this service is because Dell failed to repair my computer 3 times. I would be a fool to waste $320 on something that clearly isn't working. I would be much more understanding if the problem returned today, after the warranty, but that is not the case, it worked for only one day.

I am appalled at the service I was given by technical support. I wasted 45 minutes of my time only to find out that I need to waste $320 on a service of such low quality that it has failed me 3 times. This laptop has been a waste of about $500 and I refuse to pay for any repairs on this Defective computer. I have run out of options and this is a computer that is going to become a necessity. I don't just have money lying around to go buy another one or have this one repaired. If I do end up with the extra money to go buy another one, I will give extra consideration only to make sure it isn't from Dell.

Thank you.

Fingerprint Reader for Website Logins?

I found a link addressing this on the forum, but when you clicked the link, it couldn't be found.

Just got a new Latitude E6410.  Nice machine, has the fingerprint reader installed which works fine for the Windows login.  But where it'd really be nice is if it could  remember all my different website logins and passwords.  Can you make it do that?  I messed around with the EMBASSY Security Center but didn't see in there where you could record web logins for this. Any ideas?

Hi all

I am in doubt if I can upgrade my windows vista 64 bit to windows 7 or 8? If yes, can I just buy an upgrade from any software supplier or do i have to source it through Dell shop?

Thanks in advance for your time and answers

Laptop E5430 re-install order/Broadcom 57xx Gigabit driver error

$

Hello, I am re-installing Windows 7, 64 bit and all system drivers on a Latitude E5430 following a hard drive crash.

I am following the installation order given here: http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?docid=613704

All was good until I got to the Broadcom 57xx Gigabit/BACS driver. I am just clicking Next through the wizard for this.

During install I see the message: Microsoft SNMP Service was not detected. you must install this service for the Advanced sub-agent to work properly. Setup will continue to install the Advanced Server components.

I press OK and the install finishes.

Did I miss a step to cause this? What can I check to make sure all is well? Would appreciate any help as the install list for the E5430 does look incomplete compared to the amount of drivers listed on the Resource CD, so I was almost sure I might miss something in the order or possibly miss a preference that should be checked on the wizard for one of the drivers.

Thank-you for your help.

nVidia Geforce GT 650M NOT DETECTED on Inspiron 17R SE 7720 after BIOS A11 Update

$

Hi everyone,

A week ago I did some updating on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios update to the A11 version. Unfortunately after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was gone from my system.

I read other posts and people that have come across this issue suggested that re-installing the bios would fix the problem, however in my case it did not.

Also I have installed the newly released BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have fixed this issue.

Also re-installing windows does not either fix this as suggested by others in other posts.

I have also run the computer diagnostics from the bios and the card does not show up there either, is like if the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was not installed on the system.

Lastly I have run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and neither the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected on windows or linux.

Please someone from dell help us fix this issue, as it is definitely a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you are one of the unlucky ones like me that saw disappeared the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card from your system, please share your experience with me.

Thanks for your responses.

Well hello everyone,

This is my first post so I do apologize in advance if i'm posting my problem under the wrong section. I have a 2013 alienware laptop M14 and every time I turn my laptop on it shows the alienware symbol and says, "no boot device found. press any key to reboot the machine." Then I proceed to push any button and it just reloads the same page over and over again saying no boot device found. Really not sure what to do, any advice would be much appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 3537 Memory Upgrade

I have a Dell Inspiron 3537 and I bought a memory upgrade (G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 PC3-12800).

When I install both 8gb sticks the laptop wont boot, and it makes a repeating sound through what seems like an internal speaker.

Any idea why the sticks will not work...the specs for the memory upgrade seems to be alright, even though I notice that when I removed the original memory sticks it says on the PC board that it supports ddr3L.

Is ddr3L backwards compatible with ddr3?

Enable Battery Charger

I have been trying for days to figure out how to enable my battery charger and have yet to figure out the answer. It got turned off somehow when I was adjusting the power saving selections, and now it won't charge. Searching the support site has been fruitless, and I only found a solution on the forum for a Latitude. I have an Inspiron 15r. I'm hoping someone can help me cause I can't update my BIOS until my batter gets charged.

Dell Inspiron 15R SE, screen/monitor sever flickering

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE, less than 12 months old, still under warranty. I'm in Sydney, Australia.

In the past couple of months, the monitor has started to flicker severely, every day - I cannot always replicate - but usually when the screen is moved. I'm not sure if it's a lose wire causing a bad contact somewhere...

Anyway, what are my options for getting this fixed asap?

Thanks

Dell XPS wont charge new battery!

my XPS is about 3.5 years old. I moved recently and my laptop was left in the hot Texas sun and fried its current battery. I bought a new battery from dell and it wouldn't charge. My laptop would stay on with the power cord unplugged but that was just because the new battery had a little bit of charge left. this lead me to think it was the new battery, so I sent back the battery and got another one and it did the same thing. I am afraid it is a problem with my laptop please help!

Dell XPS12 (9Q33) - battery options greyed out?

$

Hi everyone,

I did a bit of a search, but wasn't able to find the answer to this question. I was looking to adjust some of the battery settings for my new Dell XPS 12 (9Q33; Core i7 model), because I use it plugged in quite a lot. When I press Fn+F3 the "Battery Meter" window appears, but the "Enable Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode" option is greyed out, as are all of the options under the "Desktop Mode" And "Longevity Mode" tabs.

I've upgraded all of my drivers/BIOS firmware etc. from Dell's support website, but these options don't seem to be accessible to me, and it doesn't seem to matter whether the AC adaptor is plugged in or not when viewing this menu. I'm quite keen to turn some of these options on, so any help that you may be able to provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Fn+F2 not responding

Hi,

I own an old Inspiron 9300.

It happened that I reinstalled Win XP Pro SP2 on it and then I installed SP3. Note that I was unable to find the recovery CD to do the reinstall, so I used a new install CD.

Now, I'm unable to enable the WiFi on my Inspiron 9300. There is no swith for that on this Inspiron 9300 and the suggested combination of Fn+F2 doesn't work.

Please help.

Thanks a lot

Hello, A few days ago I started having the same issue, 7 beep code, with my M5010 laptop as mentioned by previous posts. I looked around the boards and have found that this is a fairly common issue with this model, much to my dismay. I have found the same general suggestions in other posts as well: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19490514/20303202.aspx http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19405013.aspx http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19443318.aspx?pi239031352=2 http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19391927.aspx I have tried the suggestions to take out the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reseating the battery. I have also tried holding the ‘Fn’ key while booting. Neither of these methods work. I should not have to dismantle my laptop for something that is a widespread issue. I contacted customer service since this is a known, widespread issue, and was informed that I was out of luck. This is absurd. I have spoken nothing but praise about Dell products, knowing that my co-workers have had issues with their other computer providers. I had a friend that had issues with his HP and even though it was out of warranty, they were happy to fix it due to it being a widespread issue and seemed to be a faulty product. However, after that call I am rethinking my position with your products and recommending them to others. There is clearly a problem with the motherboards in this model for this many people to have an issue. While people above may have gotten theirs fixed for no additional charge, it looks like the rest of us are out of luck. I am disappointed in Dell customer service and their confidence in maintaining a quality product.

I bought my laptop in Sep 2013 and never used the Bluetooth. Today I am trying to connect my Arctic P311 Bluetooth headset without successful. Device is visible but couldn't connect due to driver issues. I ran windows troubleshooting and attaching here the screenshot of the troubleshooting. It would be very helpful if someone help me in solving this problem.
