Hello. I would like to know if the model  Dell Inspiron 13 7370 13.3" Laptop Computer - Silver; Intel Core i5-8250U Processor 1.6GHz; Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit; 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM; 256GB Solid State Drive accepts an NVMe slot or just M.2 standard. I know that there is a model with a 512gb NVMe drive, but I am not sure if the entry model does accept it.Thank you

Solved: XPS 12 battery won't charge

0
0

If you google around, you'll see a bunch of users saying that their XPS 12s won't charge. They get questions and advice about changing batteries and chargers. Or...it must be the motherboard. I'm sure that's the case sometimes.

I saw enough of a pattern and new my equipment was okay, so I ignored that and focused on the bios (running A05, version on site was A08). Spoiler: it's a BIOS issue.

Here's the fun: the BIOS exe won't install if you have less than 10 percent power. So, you have no way to prove that you are in fact having a software issue. Right.

You can try to force the BIOS with /forceit. That won't get you anywhere. There's some people muttering about adding /hdrfile somesuch to a shortcut. Yeah. Didn't get anywhere there either.

Wonders: when you open the BIOS exe and it says 'you can't install me because you're at less than 10% power', it turns out that if you dig into your User folder, and then down into AppData, you can find the temp folder created by the exe sitting there with some random name, but a very recent file creation date. It has everything you need to update the BIOS.  if you click the okay box in the exe about not updating the BIOS, all this pixie dust will blip out so don't; that would delete these temp files, so don't click okay.

Instead, copy that stuff into another folder, say on your desktop. There's an ini file in there with some text about AC_Adaptor. Search for that and read what you can turn on and off. There's probably a 1 (meaning on) next to a battery check. Change that to 0. Magically you can now update your BIOS without having the exe treat you like you don't know what you're doing.

Run the exe you find in the same folder. In my case it magically fixed my problem.

So, what I'm saying is that there's a BIOS problem for at least some people that they have no way to solve unless they cobble together what I just did (because they didn't notice their battery wasn't charging and the machine died).

Give what I suggested a try...just be warned that if your AC adaptor loses power after you start the exe, then there's a change that updating the BIOS this way will brick your machine.

Dell Studio XPS: no display, rapid amber error code

I'm not exactly sure if this is the right forum to post to, but I'm hopin' y'all can shed some light on my situation, I was workin' on a computer I just aquired, it's a Dell Studio 1340, with an Intel Core 2 Duo P6800 clocked at 2.4 GHz, and a 256MB nVidia Geforce 9400M G graphics card, I just got done installing Windows 7, as it had Windows Vista on it when I got it, anyways, I removed the CPU and GPU cooler to inspect the thermal paste, it had next to none on it, so I noted to reapply thermal paste, during the process of reinstallation, it's a pain, trust me, it's so tight that I can hardly get my hands in there to hold it as I reinstall the cooler, the cooler flipped up with the CPU stuck to the smidge of remaining thermal paste, and, it bent a pin, so I grabbed my magnifier and tools, and proceeded to straighten it out, CPU fits snugly into the socket and appears to make perfect contact with the mobo, it flashed several error codes, but i remedied those by buttoning it back up, and now it doesn't show any picture on the display, and rapidly flashes an amber error code, no white, solid amber, and the mute volume button flashes a steady pattern, I'm hopin' I ddin't just brick the machine, as it's a nice laptop, and I don't want to spend $50 on a new CPU, as I don't want to waste my money, and it is well out or warranty, it's from 2008-09, so Dell won't want anything to do with it.

Best regards

Need help with Inspiron 15

I have a light on the charging box for my power adapter, but it was plugged in to the laptop for awhile and the laptop wasn't charging. Then the laptop died. I took out the battery to see if that would help. I'm not sure if the power adapter is bad. When I press power the computer tries to start up and then dies in a second. How do I know what part is bad and what should I do?

Inspiron 3520 questions

What year was this i3 model released?

Was it originally available in red, or do the red palmrest and back of the N5110 just happen to fit? I've seen the parts that supposedly work with either model, but have yet to find a red 3520 for sale. I think mine would look good in red but want to remain "stock" color.

I've upgraded mine to i5-3210m and 16gb ram. I'm interested to find a somewhat better/faster inspiron at auction while remaining in a relatively low price range. Most I've looked at so far that are a bit newer actually have lower specs than mine. Any recommendations? Thx.

My Dell XPS Experience

Hello everyone,

I have owned this laptop for more than year and a half how and feel like I should share my experiences. I got it in April 2016, having decided to shell out a bit more for a laptop because I was going to university and was going to use it as my main workstation for the coming years.

I thought everything about it looked solid and great but the reality was different. The first 6 months I was getting blue screens all the time and the laptop was running really hot. I fixed most of those problems by tweaking BIOS settings and repasting and changing thermal pads. I initially got the laptop with external GPU support in mind which turned out to be bottlenecked by the XPS's thunderbolt configuration. I then got a dead pixel and the most recent problem is that my battery is swelling and the trackpad does not work correctly because of that.

This is my first Dell laptop and probably the last. If you are the type of guy who has a lot of free time to tweak BIOS settings, read forums and replace parts all the time definitely go for it!

XPS 17 L702X Motherboard (and CPU) upgrade

0
0

Hello,

I purchased a Dell XPS 17 L702X back in 2011 with the following build:

Motherboard: JJVYM - non-3D 1G (integrated GT 550M GPU) VRAM with 2 DIMM slot

CPU: i7-2620M (2Cores 2.7GHz, boots 3.4GHz, 4MB)

RAM: 2x4GB 1333MHz (Dell OEM)

C: drive: HDD 750GB (WD 7200rpm))

D: drive: HDD 750GB (WD 7200rpm)

WLAN: Intel Centrino 1000 (WiFi)

LCD: 1080p 17.3"

Over the years  I made few upgrades has following:

RAM: 2x8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Corsair Vengeance)

C: drive: SSD 1TO (Samsung 850 PRO)

D: drive: HDD 2TB (Seagate BarraCuda 5400rpm)

WLAN: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (WiFi + Bluetooth)

I'm was wondering if it's possible to make the following upgrades:

Motherboard: TXP27 - 3D 3G VRAM (integrated GT 555M GPU) with 4 DIMM slots - 300$

RAM: 4x8GB DDR3 1600MHz (add 2x Corsair Vengeance to the 2x8GB existing ones) - 200$

CPU: i7-2960XM (4cores 2.70GHz, boots 3.70GHz, 8MB) - 250$ (or any CPU that can handle 32GB RAM)

LCD: 1080p 17.3" 3D - 100$

LCD bezel: 3D - 25$

LCD cable: 3D - 35$

So total cost should be about 900$, I know this is alot, but it's still cheaper than a whole new laptop. Since they don't make XPS 17 anymore, my option would be an Alienware 17 with the following build:

CPU: i7-7700HQ (4cores, 2.80GHz, boots 3.8GHz, 6MB)

Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 2GB

RAM: 2x16GB 2400MHz

M2: 180GB (would reuse my 1TO SSD + 2TB HDD)

Total price of near 1900$

Of course the Alienware would be more powerfull than my "pimped XPS 17", but still 1000$ more expensive.

Any recommandations / GO/NO-GO about this ?

TPM not working

hi there,

So i have been using a dell xps 15 for the past 5 months or so, and i love the device. but for some

reason ever since today the TPM stopped working? yesterday i was still able to use my fingerprint or pincode to log in. i tried checking my bios where it sometimes shows the settings for TPM and sometimes doesnt, when it does show it says its enabled. i've tried updating bios software, going back to a earlier version of Windows and installing new drivers but all have sadly failed. when opening tpm.msc it says:
"Compatible TPM cannot be found. Compatible Trusted Platform Module (TPM) cannot be found on this computer. Verify that this computer has a 1.2 TPM or later and it is turned on in the BIOS". does somebody know a solution?

Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI Specs/Does HDMI out support full bandwidth for G-SYNC Dell Gaming Monitor – S2417DG

0

Hello,

I have been looking for verification that if I buy the Dell 24 Gaming Monitor – S2417DG and attach it to my Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI that I will get full 2560x1440 resolution refresh rate 165 Hz with 1ms response as the Monitor specs are listed.

I can find no information that the HDMI will pass this level of output.

I have talked to Dell tech support and they do say that the HDMI port is connected directly to the  NVIDIA  GeForce GTX 1050T i with 4GB GDDR5 but I also have seen information that HDMI will not support this.

So I am looking for verification on this configuration being compatible/able to output the full capabilities of the video card to the monitor via the on board HDMI output?

XPS 15 Touch Upgrade SSD from 512G to 1 TB

Hi:

Does anyone know the procedure to upgrade a Dell XPS 15 Touch SSD from 512G to 1TB?

I have read you can use Acronis True Image to do this but you have to place the 512G in an

external enclosure and the 1TB in the laptop. The problem is all the external SSD enclosures

that I have found that are USB 3.0 accept an M.2 2280 SSD that has a SATA 3 interface.

The SSD in the laptop has a PCI-E 3.0 X4 interface. I cannot find an enclosure that has this

interface. Has anybody done this before with success?

Inspiron 15 3520 Battery Replacement

My laptop is only 3 / 4 years old. I used to LOVE it and LOVED (Past tense) Dell. My battery is dead and I have called Dell 10+ times in the past 2 months. They do not have a replacement and no date of when they will. Dell should support a laptop for more then 4 years. I have escalated to supervisor level and still no ETA on when stock is coming in. I ALWAYS try to go OEM, but I give up. DELL NEVER AGAIN!!

You are the worst. Next time I am in Washington state, I am def coming into Dell Corporate and personally telling you guys personally to<Profanity removed>!

XPS 15 - 512GB SSD Volumes

I just received a new XPS 15 and I was wondering about the unpartitioned drives.  It seems there is no recovery drive as the support app told me to create on.

So what are the unused partitions of:

500 MB EFI System Partition

826 MB Recovery Partition

450 MB Recovery Partition

12.98 GB Recovery Partition (** Seems like a lot **)

1.05 GB Recovery Partition

What are all of these for?

Thanks,
Mark

New Alienware Freezing Randomly

0
0

I just got an Alienware laptop. When opening applications the pc sometimes pauses for 1-2 seconds. (a few times it was longer) Even something as simple as right clicking on the desktop will pause the computer.

I've run a few diagnostics on hardware, especially the GPU, everything checks out fine.

Specs i7-7700HQ, 16 Gig RAM, GTX 1070 8 GB

I've played a few games, and not as often but it does freeze during gameplay when clicking.\

On a side note, the LED keyboard doesn't always function and making changes to the color sometimes causes a restart. Maybe unrelated, this is my first Alienware so I am unfamiliar.

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to help! Thanks

Issue updating Thunderbolt firmware

Anyone see this issue before?

When I start the update, Thunderbolt doesn't appear in the device list. When the update starts, I briefly see the device in device manager, but then the update fails with this error. Then, Thunderbolt disappears from Device Manager. It's almost like Thunderbolt isn't turned on. I've tried disabling and reenabling in the BIOS to no avail.
