DELL Inspiron14 FREEZING Please help

Hello

It's becoming desperate.

Since 48 h my Inspiron started freezing. It is stopping doing anything, and I lose mouse and keyboard, and have to hard reboot. It does the same in safe mode.

I can do some simple things, like unistall a programs. But windows update or open Chrome is already too much, and it freezes. In rare cases, it come to life again some instants after, and then dies again.

I can see in Glasswire history that it stops any internet activity after freezing.

I wonder if he's doing something in the background that is taking all its resources. When I open windows update history, I see that there are many failed update trials since 2 days.

I opened scandisk, and it says I don't need a scan, there is no problem.

I also tried to restore, but all the 3 restore points I have in store failed to install.

The version of Inspiron I have is tropicalized, so it should not be a temperature issue (resists to 60°C).

I could try to refresh windows, but I would lose all my applications. And not sure if this fixes the issue.

I did not install any new program or something. Some days ago I run malwarebytes through, and it didn't find any malware.

It happened suddenly, I haven't had this problem before. What I had before was just slowness and lengthy boot time, but no freezing.

Please help, this is DESPERATE.  I am writing you with my old Acer, but I need my Dell to work. I am working on that non stop since 36 hours now. I really need my laptop working again.

Thank you

Hi all,

I posted my issue in "laptops" but it said that a moderator must first approve my problem.

So, since I am desperate and really need help, I post it again here.

Thank you for your help.

Hi everyone! I just ran a diagnostic on my Vostro 5470 and got the following message:

Msg: Hard Drive O-S/N TMA 55DTF260WZR, Long self test unsuccessful

I've been using the laptop for about 4 years now and it works fine for now though. Is there anything to be worried about? Or if I should perform any other test before going for a new hdd (if needed)? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello guys, I am considering to upgrade my Inspiron 15 5558 with a Samsung 850 Evo SSD disk.

What I would like to ask is, if Samsung's migration program is a good choice to clone my HDD into the SSD. If not do you have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor in an Inspiron 3558-1511 from i3 to i5? I did this successfully on my 3520, but i know shortly after that model the processors were soldered to the board. Thank you.

Inspiron 15 -5558 won't power on

I suspect a bad battery but I have no history as it's a friend's laptop.

When plugged into the AC adapter, the adapter light comes on, but no indication that anything is charging (no lights on the laptop at all).  If the power button is pressed, with or without the adapter plugged in, the power light and keyboard lights briefly (1 sec), a fan starts to spin, and the system turns off again.

Alternate power adapters have no different effect.

Intel 620 and Iris graphics update crashes Windows

I am experiencing a problem with the most recent updates for my XPS 13. The Intel graphics driver “Intel-HD-620-and-Iris-Graphics-640_4MRV7_WIN_22.20.16.4771_A08.EXE” prevents the auto installation of the available updates. Downloading the file and installing it manually led to a blue screen and “Windows didn’t start properly…” message. Trying to install it in Safe mode was an even worse idea – major blue screen, had to restore windows from the previous restore point to get it running again. Dell update keeps prompting me to install an update including this driver, but there is clearly a major incompatibility somewhere. The files for “Chipset |Intel Management Engine Components Installer” and “Chipset |Intel Chipset Device Software Driver” won’t install either, but at least they don’t cause blue screens. The recent BIOS update and other driver updates have installed (manually) fine. Any advice appreciated.

Restoring Dell Inspiron 5755

I recently became an owner via my mother in law. I reset the computer from windows, but during the update it froze and I had to do a hard reboot. Now it takes me to the critical update (light) blue screen, flashes the loading icon, and then goes to a black screen with only my pointer in attendance. I would appreciate help fixing it from inside the setup utility.

Erratic/Unresponsive Touchpad

Hey.

Ive a Dell Inspiron 5459 and I’ve been facing this problem of erratic cursor since the past week. My OS is windows 10 64 bit.  It started right after I had updated the bios and installed some security updates for windows. The cursor started lagging and malfunctioned so I just started with an external mouse.

However, today when I was just checking the updates and all, I happened to enter the bios and was kinda flabbergasted by the fact that the touchpad was fully functional and smooth inside the bios. This meant one thing: it wasn’t an internal problem, but prolly a driver issue.

I uninstalled the devices under mouse in the device manager and installed new Synaptics driver but that didn’t help. I uninstalled the updates that were recently installed and even downgraded the bios but all in vain. After all this, hoping against hope I decided to format and install a fresh copy of windows. That didn’t help either. Even with a fresh copy of windows, the cursor kept jumping from one point on the screen to another rendering the touchpad useless. It’s been almost an year to this laptop and I’ve never faced this issue before. Any sugggestions and solutions other than ‘install latest drivers, uninstall old drivers’ would be appreciated as I’ve already tried everything and searched a lot on the forums but haven’t found any significant solution.

Help.. please!

I get an error with the Dell diagnostic tool (which I'm trying to use because of internet browsing problems)

On the Dell diagnostics tool, I get to the "Checking for Support Assist" stage, and then it gets stuck on there for about 10 minutes then says it failed.

This may be part of a broader connectivity issue. For example:
*I can use Youtube as per normal, but Netflix's website barely loads (i get a white screen with just the names of the videos on the screen as inactive links).
*I can access about half the internet - for example: bbc.com and smh.com.au load after a really long time (and most images aren't there), while a site like espn.com loads like normal. Some sites also won't even load at all, such as imgtc.com where it says "secure connection failed".
*These problems happen in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.
*I tried to delete and reload Chrome, but although I could download the Chrome uploader, the uploader just started and couldn't connect for about 10 minutes, before finally connecting.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be really grateful.

Dell XPS 13 9360, weird performance problems with 32bit apps

Hi dear Dell, I have a quite powerful Dell laptop (i7 Kaby Lake, 16Gb RAM) and still feeling frustrated from time to time due to horrible performance.

I'm using it for six month, for now, first I was on Linux, but due to the problem I'll describe below I shifted back to Windows 10. Although, it doesn't seem to help me much.

I tried to narrow the problem and looks like GPU-intensive 32-bit apps are to the blame.

It's effortless to reproduce: download and install meetings client for zoom.us, which is still 32-bit for some reason, join a room with a few people using cameras or sharing their screen and you'll instantly get near 100% CPU usage, howling fans and slow system.

UEFI and drivers are up to date, of course.

Also, I tried to install 32-bit version of the Microsoft Office 365 and it works noticeably slower than 64-bit version.

All this is quite annoying and frustrating. Halp.

Dell inspiron 7560 wireless connectivity --speed issues over WIFI

Hi All,

I am facing a weird problem on my laptop bought a week before, need assistance.

I am using my wifi which is 40mbps connection, but I am getting only 0.4mbs speed. I tried connecting directly by LAN then the speed is 40mbps. I tested connecting with my phone hotspot then also I am getting good speed around 10mbps. I tired resetting my router and tried but still the same.

The key point here is my friend also using the same wifi on his laptop and he is getting 40mbps.

I dont know whats the issue is , even dell support technician taken a remote control and tried several settings but after 2 hours of remote control sharing also its still the same problem.

Please provide you valuable inputs. Thanks in advance!!!!

Hi,

I own a Dell Latitude E7440 and I facing a problem with the laptop where the bottom surface of the laptop seems to creak and seems to move when I press with a finger on one side. The other side seems stable and well fixed. I am wondering a screw has fallen off near the bottom surface of the laptop. Please see video for more details of the issue I am facing. Please help me, Whenever i press the ON button, the battery  indicator light just blinks in a sequence of 4 white blinks and after that is 2 red blinks then repeat. I brought my laptop to the store i bought it from, they did not open it they just examined it and did the ram reset (don't know if that's correct) and they told me that it's possible that my laptop has a mother board problem or that the lcd is broken. I don't really use my laptop eexcessively which made me nervous. Any suggestion for what to do is very much appreciated. Thank you

Dell XPS 13 9350 shuts down instead of sleeping when lid is shut.

I've read several entries on this forum about this exact problem - though the dates seem a little more erratic if it were directly related to a single software update.

The Problem: Every time I put the computer into sleep mode, it shuts down instead. Although, the computer does wake when I open the lid, but any program that was open has been closed.

Attempted Solutions: This happened about a week ago, and after updating/reinstalling BIOS and video drivers, as well as checking power settings, the problem persisted. Since I didn't have any recent system restore points, I reinstalled windows. Alas the problem went away. For 4 days.
I've intentionally not updated using Dell Update, but something has seemingly gotten past administrative permission and installed itself today. There are no updates in the update log, but there aren't many other explanations I can think of.

Please don't tell me to check my power settings, or reinstall/update BIOS or video drivers. I've tried that already. Are there any other solutions to this problem?
