My Precision 5510 is experiencing screen freezing/locking up issues not long after booting, particularly when browsing the internet. The nature of the lockup is:

- keyboard backlight still responding
- display frozen on last view
- all keystrokes, key commands and windows key ignored
- mouse pad ignored (pointer motionless)
- ctrl:alt:del ignored

Does anybody know what might be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Blue Screen of Death

About a year ago I tried to fix my sister's laptop, a task that I did not possess the knowledge or the tools to perform. Since I am the happy owner of a Dell laptop, I offered to find her a good deal on a Dell laptop of her own. Up until two days ago we were both happy with my sister's new Dell Latitude E6510. This is what happened that day. She told she was in the middle of a Windows 10 update when she experienced the blue screen of death with the following words:

Recovery, Your PC/Device needs to be repaired, A required device isn’t connected or can’t be accessed, Error code: 0xc000000F, You’ll need to use recovery tools. If you don’t have any installation (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer. Press Enter to try again, Press F8 for Startup Settings, Press F9 to use a different operating system

The first three things we tried were the options laid out for us by the message, needless to say each of those options brought us back to the status quo. I have been able to access the bios and the diagnostic test showed no problems. I also tried to reboot with the Win 10 disk that came with the computer by going into the boot sequence menu and choosing the DVD drive as the boot drive. The next thing we tried was downloading the media creation tool from Windows to a flash drive on my PC, reordered the boot sequence choosing the USB drive as the boot drive and tried another reboot. The result of both of those attempts was a return to the same blue screen. Any help would be appreciated.

M6600 plugged in/won't charge

Hi,

I'm trying to troubleshoot a used M6600 running Windows 10 with a battery that isn't charging (original battery and charger). When I plug the laptop to the wall (in either on/off states) the battery charge indicator flashes momentarily and then gone. I get the same result in different sockets. While plugged in Windows battery status indicator shows "plugged in/not charging". The battery doesn't charge when the laptop is left plugged in overnight while off, nor does it stat charging if I insert it into an already running session.

I took several steps attempting to solve the problem, checking after each step before advancing.

1. Updated to the latest BIOS from Dells website. It didn't solve the charging problem but enabling messages from diagnostics gets a message at Post notifying that the AC adapter isn't adequate for the laptop :"Alert! a xxxxxW AC power adapter has been detected, which is less the the recommended xxxxxW AC adapter originally shipped..."

2. Unplugging the laptop, removing the battery, uninstalling both ACPI drivers and replacing the battery.(However at this point it became apparent that hardware is the source of the problem rather than Windows since the battery won't charge while the laptop is turned off while still plugged in).

3. Unplugging the laptop, removing the battery and pressing down the power button for 30 seconds in order to clear the CMOS, then plugging in and checking.

4. Blew both onto the charger's plug and laptop's plug receptacle in order to remove dust.

5. Cleaned the battery contacts with a dry cloth.

How can I be sure whether it's the battery or charger at fault? Is the charger adequate for this laptop to begin with (65W 19.5V-3.34A AC adapter [model #LA65NS0-00])?

Inspiron 15 3521 bios upadet (Using the End key)

I've managed to make my dell to boot into bios reflash by holding the key button while connecting the power adapter. It boots differently (normally one beep).

The problem is that I think my extracted bios files werent enough. I've downloaded the bios exe file and extractwed the file (using uniextractor or something), and put them on my usb (formatted to FAT).

At first I've done it with the cmos battery connected, then it entered the mode and after a few seconds shut down. Without the cmos battery it enters the mode but seems to be stuck there.

What is the right way to fix my bios? Do I need other files on my usb?

The file I've downloaded is this one: www.dell.com/.../driversdetails

Hi All,

My Dell Precision M4500 has decided not to turn on today!

I've got power on the tip of the cord attached to the laptop but all lights are off and there is no sign of having electricity passing in.

It's been a while my battery needs to get replaced so always had the power cord attached to use it. I removed the battery and  cord hold the power button for 30 seconds but didn't work too.

I have no other solutions in my head.

Please advise

Ali

Latitude E5400 wireless options?

Hello!

I just bought a used Latitude E5400 and I'm stuck on an issue.

The machine currently has WiFi connectivity but not Bluetooth.  My research online indicates this machine can either have Bluetooth connectivity via a wireless 370 card or WiFi connectivity via various cards, but not both at the same time.  Is this correct?

Does changing hard drive to SSD break warranty?

$

Hello,

I have purchased my Dell Vostro 15 5000 laptop a couple days ago. And I have my own SSD driver, which was not bought from Dell. So, I would like to ask if I can go to any service center and ask them to replace it without my warranty being broken? Also, I understand that there will be no more warranty for the replaced hard driver.

If yes, can I even do it for myself? Of course, I take all responsibilities for a possible damage. It is necessary for me to know because, probably, I will be able to add an additional RAM unit to it.

If no, can you suggest me a place where I can do it officially in Czech Republic (the laptop was bought here) or Austria, I mean with keeping my warranty?

XPS 13 9360 (2017 7th Gen i7 + TB 16 + P2415Q = A literal nightmare.

$

Let me preface that I have zero issues with the XPS 13 9360. It's fantastic, QHD touch screen with the i7 makes everything super speedy and it looks gorgeous. I was replacing a 7-year-old HP so this was leaps and bounds better what I had before.

So naturally I want to get 4K going on another monitor for work as I had previously worked with another monitor as well but, XPS doesn't have any display inputs (which isn't a big deal).

I looked around for docks and other things I can use to get a 4K external up and running and found what I thought was the perfect combo.

A TB16 dock which has all of the features I want and need for my laptop. And a P2415Q which is a gorgeous dell 4k monitor. So mind you, everything about my set up is ALL dell. I have no other manufacturers in the chain here.

So the TB16 is already getting absolutely horrible reviews across the board, mainly the flickering issue and USB/Ethernet not working. But I figured it was just people over-reacting and not knowing what to do or troubleshoot issues.

BOY.

WAS. I. WRONG.

When I set everything up, the dock worked perfectly. Ethernet worked, USB ports worked, etc. Seemingly out of the box everything was great (Dell even updated all the drivers I needed). Then I decided to finally connect the 4k monitor. Here's where it went downhill....

I had a BRAND new 1.2 Displayport to Displayport cable (not mini) to take full advantage of the 1.2 version. I had heard the Displayport to Mini Displayport doesn't work too well so I wanted to be sure this would work well.

When I connected the monitor to the dock, it flashes for a few seconds then shows the beautiful monitor. Full resolution (3840x2160) at 60Hz, which is pretty decent for doing office work and even print/video work if you needed to.

Eventually as I was working on that monitor the screen would flicker, which is absolutely BIZARRE considering I paid close to $2k for this whole setup. And it would continue to flicker. Usually when I opened a program, clicked on a prompt, etc. the flicker still happened.

Sometimes it flickers a few times and P2415Q will say "going into power saving mode" and will not come back on unless I...

A.) Turn off the monitor and turn it back on.

B.) Unplug the monitor from the dock and reattach it

C.) Completely restart my computer.

So I can pretty much say goodbye to doing ANY real work on this monitor as it's not even usable at this point. It just flickers until it shuts off. If I just leave it open and do minimal work on JUST the XPS screen, it's fine. There's usually no flickering. But the second I do work on the monitor, it flickers until it stops working eventually. Usually within 20-30 minutes it'll stop working.

Here's the list of things I've done to try to solve this issue and it's still not solved correctly.

- Updated every single driver for my XPS 13

- Updated every single driver for my TB16

- Installed every driver for the P2415Q

- Tried using my XPS 13 with a power cord attached instead of just the dock as power.

- Disabled my WIFI via windows 10 AND via the driver manager. Neither worked.

- Tried a mini DP to a DP cable that came with the monitor

- Tried a DP to DP cable that was a third party cable (still 1.2 compliant)

- Attempted to look up the Service Tag & Express Service Tag, neither of which were found on Dell (Thanks Dell!)

You get the point. I've every single official and non-official fix that anyone has come up with as well as a few of my own and I cannot get this working correctly. T

he only thing, and I mean ONLY thing that seems to work correctly 99% of the time is switching MST (Multi-Stream Transport) to Primary. But, when you do this you are basically forced to use 30Hz instead of the full 60Hz.

So essentially it's going from a speedy response to have a cursor that seems like it's being dragged in mud.

TL:DR;

The TB15/16 issue is STILL not fixed. Even with their top-of-the-line XPS 13, it still fails spectacularly. I'm using ALL DELL EVERYTHING and it STILL doesn't work.

How can I make this work, Dell?

Latitude 5580 + Dell Universal Dock (D6000) WIFI Auto disable when lan connects

Has anyone been able to get the WIFI auto disable working? This normally happens when the lan cable is plugged in.

If the land cable is plugged into the D6000, the wifi does not auto disable. But If I plug the lan cable directly into the laptop, then the wifi will disable as it should.

I searched old posts on this same topic and nothing helped, so here is a new topic on an old subject.

My XPS 12 has had problems for quite some time. I don't use the computer all that often anymore, but when I need it, it is not usable, because it has to be plugged in to work.

I have replaced the battery.

I have replaced the power cord

I have replaced the charging port

I have verified that I have the latest BIOS

When I plug the power cord into the computer, the power icon shows charging with the icon showing progression. After 5 - 10 seconds, the icon remains unchanged.

The power has slowly gone from 100% (with the new battery) to 1% now.

Battery Meter:

Status - 0% Charging (it lies!)

Enable Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode - grayed out and not selectable

Enable Dell Extended Battery Life - selected, although I've tried both ways

Remind me... - selected, although I've tried it both ways

    Battery Health

Your battery is performing normally (it lies!)

    Desktop mode

everything is grayed out and not selectable

    Longevity mode

everything is grayed out and not selectable

I would love to click "Charge battery to 100% one time", but I cannot.

I have gone into the BIOS to try various options shown in related posts.

What else can I try?

Hi, Working on my wife's Inspiron LT, which crashed in the process of dl'ng Windows updates, then failed the Windows diags & rebuild ops. I've done 3 different HD diags on it, all of which agree thar the HD is burnt toast. Of course, there is no backup, and no optical copy of the system to restore from (the HD recovery partition, is, of course, also toast :) My wife likes Win 7, has work apps that demand it, and is unwilling to upgrade to 8 or 10 (she understands that her data is not recoverable.) So, here is the question. Is there a Dell base image for this computer & OS combo somewhere that I can use to build a "virgin" system image on this machine? If not, what media can I use to reinstall Win 7 64-bit? I have several older MS optical discs with this OS (some from the MS sw subscription packages) but I'm pretty sure not all will work, and I'd prefer not to waste hours finding out which ones will not. Assuming I have or can get an installable copy of Win 7, where can I get a Dell driver package to use with it on this system? Thanks much in advance for any help you can provide.

Laptop won't turn on without being plugged in

My Inspiron 11 3168 will not power on without the power cord. It is very strange because at 1st it seems like a battery issue however I plug it in and it boots right up and the battery is fully charged. I can then unplug it and use it on battery power with no problem. It is just the booting up that is an issue. I have also tried putting it on never sleep while on battery but that did not help. While I am at home its not a problem for me to just plug it in however I purposely got this laptop for college and I cant always plug it in during class so I need it to work on battery. I have only had this laptop a little over a month now.
