Inspirion 7000 hinge failure

I've read the posts and this really stinks.  My 7 month old laptop is starting to crack at the hinge.  I've seen similar issues with cheaper brands but I expected more from Dell.  Their warranty specifically excludes hinge issues.

Buyer beware!  They WILL break and charge you to fix it!

Loyal customer for many years....looking for a new brand!

I need to replace my hard drive on my Dell Inspiron R N5010. I can't take off the keyboard since there is a screw attached to it from where the RAM is located and I can't see it. I can only see one screw with the RAM cover off. I can't see the second one that manual and videos describe.

Any suggestions on how I can remove the keyboard is appreciated.

Latitude E6420 Says that my SSD is "Incompatible".

Hello all,

Recently acquired an E6420.  Used a HDD temporarily, and got Windows loaded and a few programs installed.  I purchased an SSD for the system, and mirrored the HDD directly to the new SSD when it shipped.  I have now installed the SSD, and upon posting, the system will notify me that it has detected the drive (SanDisk SDSSDX24) but will show that the drive is "Incompatible" in red lettering under the status column.  The system will not boot and will tell me to insert a bootable media device.  To put it simply, what is going on, and why is this happening? How can I resolve it?

Latency issues, audio dropouts, help?

Hi everyone, hoping I can get some advice here, please? I have a Inspiron 15 7000, brand new, and have noticed micro freezing and audio stuttering. I ran latency monitor and have had a few different drivers pop up as culprits but i'm not sure what to do about it. I've also had storport.sys and wdf01000.sys show up as well.

FYI, I've tried a fresh Windows install, flashing different BIOS versions, disabling ACPI battery in Device Manager, disabling Wi-Fi card and disabling Intel Speedstep but i'm still having the issue.

Other people have suggested disabling the Realtek audio drivers and using default Windows ones, which I have yet to try. I will post my LatencyMon results below and thanks in advance for any help!

MEASURED INTERRUPT TO USER PROCESS LATENCIES

The interrupt to process latency reflects the measured interval that a usermode process needed to respond to a hardware request from the moment the interrupt service routine started execution. This includes the scheduling and execution of a DPC routine, the signaling of an event and the waking up of a usermode thread from an idle wait state in response to that event.

Highest measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 49502.332804 Average measured interrupt to process latency (µs): 4.091619

Which active stylus should I use with my Dell Inspiron 13 7359?

I've been reading online and it seems that there are some active stylus pen's that are not compatible with my laptop. I'm wondering which ones are compatible?   I'll be using the pen in my classroom so I want there to be some functionalities, specifically it should have the 2 side buttons, for erasing and for highlighting. I'll also be using it to draw diagrams so I also want it to have palm rejection capabilities.

Any suggestions?

DELL XPS 15 9560 - Adobe Premiere Slow Responses and Crashes

$

After experiencing issues with the fans of my Dell XPS 15 (9560), I decided to restore my device to its factory configuration and since then I only installed mandatory updates.

Unfortunately since I picked up Adobe Premiere again I have been experiencing major lags and no-response crashes, despite having the latest version of Premiere available. In the light of that I concluded it must be a problem of my machine, not of Premiere.

Now, since I have been so careful and reluctant with updates, could it be that I am missing some fundamental update that would allow everything to run smooth again? What outdated component would you find guilty? Or perhaps it's a completely different problem, with a completely different solution, that some fellow XPS users out there are experiencing as well.

I rest my hopes in you.

Dell Latitude E6320 - Overheating and throttling while full load

Hello, i've bought a used Dell Latitude E6320 few weeks ago with Intel i5 2520m procesor, integrated Intel HD 3000 and upgraded to 6GB RAM. Everything is fine exept for throttle and high temps when i was playing a game or rendering a video, the procesor just hits a 99*C in few minutes and then it throttles. I already changed twice the thermal pase to another but it doesnt change anything. A lot of temp drop does a removing back cover but i guess this is not a good idea to use laptop without back cover for everyday usage. Also i tried to use a cooling pad but it doesnt really help with that too. Disabling Turbo Boost or Hyper-Threading doesnt make any changes in temperatures. There is a way to finally get rid with this problem?

And yes, the fan is blasting with very hot air.

Laptop Specs:

Dell Latitude E6320, Intel i5-2520m 2.5Ghz + Intel HD 3000, 1x4GB and 1x2GB Samsung DDR3 1333Mhz ram sticks, 320GB Hitachi HDD

Dell E6430u i7 Laptop Won't POST

$

I’ve recently acquired a used Dell Latitude E6430u i7 laptop. The laptop is in very good condition but will not POST.

When the power button is pressed and released, the mute light and caps lock flash on very briefly and the fan spins for about 1 second. Nothing else happens, no sounds, nothing on screen. If I then hold the power button to force shut down, the fan spins for a second or so before shut down occurs.

Having read around various articles including Dell support, I have tried the following to make the laptop POST:

  1. Start up with ‘D’ button held down to test the LCD. The test procedure runs OK, but then when the laptop tries to start afterwards, there is no change to what I described above

  2. Start up with ‘FN’ button held down to enter diagnostics. No success, no change to what I described above

  3. I have tried removing battery, holding power button to remove flea power then going for forced ePSA as described in Dell support. No success, no change to what I described above

  4. I have tried changing the memory sticks for memory of the same specification from another laptop that I know is working. No success, no change to what I described above

  5. I have tried the Dell BIOS recovery tool. No success, no change to what I described above

  6. I have opened the laptop case and disconnected the CMOS, removed charge and then attempted to start as described in Dell support. No success, no change to what I described above

So I am now running out of ideas for things to try. At present, the mSATA SSD is not fitted, but I don’t think that this would prevent a successful POST to a point where the screen would display a message. The laptop is a high end machine in very good condition and it would be a shame to discard. Does anyone have any further suggestions for things to try? My only other thought is that it might be a BIOS problem or maybe a replacement motherboard is needed. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Dell XPS 9550 - CPU will not go above 0.75GHz or 30% Utilisation

My 6700HQ in XPS15 is running at 30% only.

Plugged in, quiet mode off, performance mode power. No changes made at all.

Checked in bios and disabled Speedstep, Turbo boost, c states control - situation remained the same.

After disabling hyperthreading, cpu now fixed at 2.6GHz

Any ideas?

Was not like this before. Cpu freq was dynamic.

Dell, if you want to remove this again, please be aware i will spend the next 5 hours posting this on every forum I can find.

I have screenshots, and plus you can still see my old thread within the dell search indexed. (Of which I also have screenshots of)

Latitude 7280 - Wake-on-LAN bug?

$

I’ve discovered a problem with the Latitude 7280 (and possibly the 7380 / 7480) that I'm wondering if anyone else can reproduce.

When the 7280 is Shutdown properly from within Windows 10, the NIC does not remain active and WOL with magic packet or Intel vPro commands will not function. However, if the laptop is switched off at the Dell logo before the OS loads, then the NIC remains active and WOL functions normally.

I have also noticed if I remove the power adapter, then reconnect it, the NIC will become active.

I have tested this with 6 different 7280 laptops.

Steps to reproduce:

Latitude 7280

BIOS version 1-6-4, set to factory defaults

Wake on LAN enabled in BIOS

Power adapter connected

Boot into Windows 10 1703 and then perform a normal shutdown. NIC should no longer be active.

Boot computer to the Dell logo then switch off. NIC should be active and WOL should work.

Could this be an issue where the laptop detects no power adapter connected after shutdown via Windows?
