Vostro 5468 change boot

Hi Friends,

I've encountered a small problem.

When I tried to change the boot device on my laptop, I couldn't find the info or steps needed to achive it.

I have vostro 5468 with M.2 and an additional SSD.

The OS is loaded from M.2 and I want to change the boot order, I've tried changing settings in the BIOS but all I got was no boot device found (there is an OS on the SSD as well).

How can I change it?

Would appreciate any assistance.

Tzlil.

Dell precision 7510 - enabling 4 CPU's from BIOS...

Hi !

According to hardware specifications of my laptop (Dell precision 7510), it should have 4 processors, but it looks like it has only two of them enabled. Oh, well, I've noticed that there exists in bios option where you can enable more processors (4 actually), and they work ok until laptop is rebooted.

After reboot default bios setting returns back (2 cpu's) and OS again is running slowly.

When saving in bios it's possible to save with "Save as custom" checkbox enabled or disabled - that option does not have any affection to cpu's enabling - wondering if it works at all.

There is also problem with Windows 7 / hibernate - it does not always work correctly - problem occurs randomly, so there is approximately 10% change that hibernate will not recover correctly.

Have anyone seen similar problems ?

Latitude 5289 Connected Standby & S3

So, we are currently trying out the Latitude 5289, but i discovered a several problems.

It seems like out of the box the Standby-state S3 is not supported, but only Connected Standby. This might work out with some Intel M5 without active cooling but definitely not with an i5. (Some Test-Users reporting the fan spinning at max speed, after closing the lid and putting it in a laptop case.

So I found, thanks to some Surface Forums, the possibility to disable the connected Standby by registry key ( HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\CsEnabled 1 -> 0 )

After that powercfg /a also shows S3 enabled.

This Sleepstate does work while I start it from the Windows-Powermenu, but not works while closing the lid (Notebook crashes while recovering from sleep)

But the main problem with S3 is, when the device wakes up again, the touch screen doesn't work anymore. Also tried the newest Wacom driver for wcom&dev_4848 and set up, that windows can't turn the device of to save energy. Only way I figured out to re-enable touchscreen is a reboot. No changes yet.

Bios version is 1.6.1 with newest drivers.

Anyone else got problems with Standby?

WD15 & 5x80 Latitude

Dear,

since the new series (5x80) + Dock's D6000 & WD15, we have some problems with the power supply. Especially with the WD15. Can not understand why you did not have a Power Button built into the docks. On the WD15 is a button, but for wake on sleep not to start the system. Exactly this does not work when the notebook is completely unloaded. Tip, if the power button would be on the side of the notebook, you could save the button and this would be much better also for D6000 users. Because the notebook in connection with the D6000 is always open or open up to start it. If you already have 2 monitors, you want to close it.

Furthermore, the message that a too weak power supply is connected, see picture / appendix.
Apparently the Bios update 1.5.2 was withdrawn, but also it was not located. After downgrading to 1.4.3, the problem still exists.

Please tell me who has similar problem so that DELL can fix this as soon as possible.

I have passed it to technical support, but apparently does not have this urgency?

Thx and best regards

Hi all,

Just upgraded my standard 1366 x 768 to a 1920 x 1080 touchscreen.

The Latitude E5540 with i5-4200 can not be changed into 1920 1080 mode.

The touch action is working

BIOS states native resolution 1366 x 768 after screen upgrade

Bios is upgraded to latest version

Inspiron 13 5378 boot-up issues

About once a week (it's happened twice) I get 2 amber then 6 flashing white lights on boot up and the laptop appears dead. I did the diligent thing and Googled it, leading to a post that suggested that disconnecting and reconnecting the battery would solve the issue. It did, but that involves undoing many screws to get inside the case. I don't mind doing that, in principle, but it's a workaround not a fix.

Has anyone else had this problem? Should I just call Tech Support?

Precision M6400 vs M6500 Hard Drive Caddy

So I managed to get my hands on a Precision M6500. Problem is it does not have any Hard Drives or Hard Drive caddies in it. I want to install 2 Hard drives in this machine.

My problem is I'm unable to locate the Part Number for the Primary HD Caddy, Secondary HD Caddy and its interposer. I can find this information for the M6400, but not for the M6500.

Can anyone confirm the M6400 Caddies and Interposer will or will not work in the M6500? Because I know what to purchase for M6400, but not for M6500 since like I said I can't find the part numbers for the latter. If they are the same between the two laptops then I know what to get.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Dell Latitude shuts down instantly when power cable removed (despite full battery)

I've recently started working at a new company and I've been provided with a brand new Latitude E5570. After 3 days use the laptop has started to shut down when the power cord is unplugged, it was working fine yesterday but having returned to work this morning I've found that I can't use the laptop unless it is plugged in (it wont turn on if the cord is unplugged). I've tried using a different power cable from a colleagues laptop, but the situation did not change. I've also tried changing and resetting the power plans to default, but to no avail.

I ran a battery check through command prompt and it showed that the battery is working fine with 100% charge, so I cannot understand why it refuses to work without the power cable. Here's a link to the report (must be opened in a browser): https://www.dropbox.com/s/ezwtuiowx0kz4gb/battery-report.html?dl=0

Dell 7567 Gaming Bottom Cover and Screws

Hi all,

Unfortunately in the process of adding more ram to my dell laptop I managed to break a couple of the hinges on the base cover and lose the metal cylinder which surrounds the single captive screw.

The bottom of my laptop practically threatens to fall off now and the screw is constantly falling out. No amount of twisting secures the screw, which also makes me fear that I may have damaged something.

Any suggestions?

Can I swapping out 32Gb SSD in Dell XPS 15 9560?

Just ordered this laptop and see it comes with a 32GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I assume the SSD is used as a cache and the HDD holds the OS. So would there be a worth while performance gain by keeping the HDD as storage, and swap out the small SSD for a larger SSD to hold the OS? Someone else suggested that the 32gb SSD is integrated into the HDD, like this one here.

Does anyone know if this laptop has two seperate drives, one SSD and a HDD, or is it just one drive? If there is a separate SSD are there certain SSD's that I should look at to upgrade it with?

Inspiron 11-3152 camera not working

As stated I have an Inspiron 11-3152. I rarely use the webcam, so I don't know when it quit, but it did. I verified that the camera app, and skype, etc. were allowed to use the camera. Device manager just shows "USB Video Device" under imaging devices. Properties show Microsoft as the manufacturer, although nothing on the description of hardware for this laptop shows what kind it is. I have uninstalled it from Device Manager and scanned for hardware changes. It shows something there, but nothing actually works. I also get this message on the events tab of the device properties, "Device USB\VID_1BCF&PID_28AA&MI_00\6&c688959&0&0000 requires further installation." Not sure if there is any way to determine if it is a software or hardware issue beyond this point. Please help.

Need help with N7110 headphone jack problem

If I jiggle the headphone jack it will shut off the latop speakers.  Tried other headphones same result, so problem is in the jack ( worn out, poor solder connections, etc?)  So I ordered a replacement jack from ebay it looks somewhat the same, but really won't know until I open the computer up.  My question has anyone replaced this headphone jack on this model?  Is it soldered in?  If so how did you replace it?  the one I purchased doesn't look like the leads on the replacement jack go beyond the jack itself.

Planning to buy Dell XPS 9560 4K in INDIA

$

Hi,

I am planning to buy a dell XPS 9560 4K laptop in Mumbai, India.

My question is simple and straightforward and I would like the answers to be likewise.

The product isn't available straight from Dell and thus I find myself planning to buy it from Amazon India or a local marketplace.

Thus my concern is since the laptop isn't available in Dell India, how is the repairing process in India done if my laptop gets faulty.

In other words, can I get my laptop repaired in India if anything goes wrong hardware and software-wise?

Would like a reply asap

Thank you

Divyansh

Swollen overheating battery but no onsite repair option???

I contacted tech support about my swollen overheating battery/ raised trackpad and their only solution was to send in the machine to the depot which can take 2 weeks or more to get it back (tech support said the parts may be back ordered).

There has to be a better solution than saying 'unfortunately'.  I use my XPS 9550 for business and don't have a spare computer.  Considering that there is a known safety issue here too, I would think that Dell would want to have an onsite repair solution.

Can anybody help with a solution?

Rugged Desk Dock not working

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and I was wondering if anyone can help or had the same issue.

I have a new Dell latitude 5414 (Rugged 14) and I purchased a Rugged Desk Dock for it, but somehow the laptop doesn't seem to see the docking station. The only thing that works is the ON/OFF button (the dock turns on/off the laptop), but nothing else (monitor, USB, network) works. he laptop came with Win10 PRO 64 bit preinstalled. I can't find anything in the Device Manager that shows up as not working, and there are no drivers for this dock at the product page. Any suggestion would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Luca

XPS 15 9550 motherboard quesion

Hi, I recently replaced the power jack socket in my 9550. In doing so I displaced a little metal cover that sat over a dime-sized (but rectangular) plate of some kind beside where the socket sits. I couldn't seem to snap it back over the four little posts that held it in place, so I left it off, not wanting to put it back wrong, and it doesn't seem to have affected anything. Anybody know what I'm talking about that could advise whether I'm okay leaving it off? It was held in place by sort of snapping over four little posts.

Thanks, Jim

Question about overclocking an Alienware R4 17" laptop

$

I just purchased an Alienware R4 laptop. It has an Intel i7 7700 under the hood, and a GTX 1070 8GB video card. I saw videos on Youtube of people overclocking theirs, but I am not able to do the same. When I go into the BIOS, there is an option to turn on the processor and fan performance mode, but when either is enabled, no options appear below it. I tried updating the BIOS, but I get the same thing. There does not seem to be any software option to overclock. Also, when I hit "ctrl" and "F7" to change the graphic card mode, clicking on the option to enable only the discrete Nvidia chip does not do anything. All I can do is hit cancel. Has anybody else seen these issues? Thank you in advance!
