Dell XPS 15 9560 Multiple U2715H Monitors : Programs and windows opening off screen

I have the Dell XPS 15 9560, i7 7700HQ, it has the standard graphics adaptor, but I also have the Thunderbolt dock which has 2 27" Dell U2715H monitors connected to it.

Whenever I go to use Chrome, and i open the Web Developer panel, it always opens off screen, and I have to use Shift-Right click on the taskbar to select 'Move' and then bring it back to the screen.

This also happens when using some steam games, and some other apps too.

Is there any way to prevent this? any ideas what could be causing it to think my screens are bigger than they actually are?

I wondered about Virtual desktops, but i've not got that in use.

Issue with HDD, error code: 2000-0142

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520. I got a freeze while playing one game. After a forced reboot I got BSOD right before the logging screen. Google said that it could be some issue with hdd, ram, video card or drivers. The laptop was able to boot into the Windows safe mode, and there I removed my drivers for video cards. After that I was able to boot into a normal Windows mode without BSOD, but after a few minutes I received a freeze again. Forced reboot - again BSOD before logging screen. Then I decided to do a clean re-installation of Windows with the removal of everything on the hard disk. After the successful installation of clean Windows I got BSOD (or freeze) again during the initial system setup (Wi-fi, ms account, etc.). 

I ran the Dell diagnostics and got "Long test failed, error code: 2000-0142". 

SupportAssist Pre-Boot System Performance Check says: 

"Recommended action
Replace Hard Drive.

Your hard drive is operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced."

But when I put my hdd in my mother's laptop it worked well without BSOD or freeze. As well as hdd from my mother's laptop in mine.

So everything says that it's an issue with hdd and it should be replaced by new one. But why does it work fine in another laptop? I would not like to spend money on a new hdd and find out that the problem was for another reason. Is there any way to 100% make sure that the problem is in hdd and not in something else?

XPS 13 and DA200

Having updated all the drivers on my XPS 13 9365 last Friday the DA200 is no longer working.  Prior to this the DA200 was working fine.  Machine is running Windows 10 version 1703 which I am certain the DA200 was working fine after Windows had updated.

Anybody else experiencing this and does anybody have a fix...?

Hi, was checking latitude 7285 as a possible replacement of my 3.5 years old venue 11 pro. I've got a few questions 

-- Latitude 7285 has been on shelf in the US for like a month or so. Has any early birds received theirs? Are there review units and will there be reviews coming out?

-- It says on the website ship in 8-11 days, then in cart it says 11-15 days. Which one tells the truth? Since I'll be moving in a month or so, further delays kind of matters.

-- It seems to be the first to have an M2 2230 class 35 SSD. What is its performance like?

-- Are the USB-C thunderbolt ports x4 or x2 for vPro and non-vPro?

Hi,

I bought a XPS 9560 (4k display) about one month ago, this is my first dell device, since then I got series of issues like BSOD/Black screen/freeze, most of them I am able to solve by updating the drivers/software/firmware.

But today I had another problem, when I try to boot my system, it stopped at an error screen and says "Invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program Time-of-day not set", I press the power button to restart several times but the problem stays. So I press the "BIOS Setup" button in the screen, the error screen exited and the windows 10 was able to boot finally.

However, all my previous BIOS settings are gone! Including my setting for keyboard shortcuts.

It's seems that this problem is caused by main-board battery drain.

I had main-board battery problem on another computer once, but it was 10 years old machine, how could this happen again on a newly bought laptop?

Dell XPS 15 9560 - fans always on

I purchased my Dell XPS 15 9560 (i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB Samsung 960 Evo) laptop two months ago and there is one thing that is really frustrating. The fans are nearly always on.

It is enough to open a few Chrome tabs and YouTube video and after a few minutes fans kick in at the low speed (2500rpm). CPU temperatures are around 42C-45C. The only option to turn them off is to open Dell Command Power Management and switch between profiles (any of them). Unfortunately after a few minutes fans kick in again :/ With power cord plugged in it happens even faster and it is not possible to turn the fans off even by changing profile in Dell Command Power Management. There is no difference between profiles.

I also run a test with one external monitor and connected Dell U2414H using Thunderbolt port and original Dell USB-C do DisplayPort adapter (470-ACFC). Fans started spinning in less than 3 seconds after I connected the cable. It was not possible to turn them off even switching profiles in Dell Command Power Management. When I unpluged the cable, after a few seconds I was able to turn off the fans by switching profiles (and fans were off until I started browsing).

I have read other users claim their Dell XPS 9560 are "dead silent", with fans running only under load (for example when gaming) and I feel confused.

What can I do to make my Dell XPS 9560 quiet when CPU load and temperatures are at low level? What can I do to make it quiet during normal work? It's quit frustrating considering this is supposed to be a premium laptop.

Recently installed the latest BIOS update with the Intel security patch and now I'm unable to use bitlocker to encrypt the drive as it states "The TPM on this computer does not work with the current BIOS. Contact the computer manufacturer for BIOS upgrade instructions".

XPS 12-9Q23 not powering up not charging

XPS 12-9Q23 on windows 10 not powering up and not charging battery. I have bout another ac adapter but that has not helped. Is this a motherboard problem? The person from dell support asked me to wriggle the pin at end ,but that did not resolve the problem. Is this a motherboard issue?.  ALso this laptop has had the problem of not shutting down completely where by it wakes itself up. Also at times the fan and keyboard back-light stays on  for a while after shut down.

Why is the quality of these laptops so bad?


Dell Precision M4800 touchpad

When my computer restarts the touchpad (that I keep turned off as I use a mouse) keeps turning itself back on. This is a recent problem in the past 4 months. Previously I could use the Fn F5 key and keep the touch pad off. Now the Fn F5 key no longer seems to control the touch pad and I have to go into the control panel every time my computer restarts. This is becoming a problem.

I am still on Windows 7- is this the cause?

Something else?

Please advise.

I'm about to order the Dell XPS 15 9550, 4K, 960M, 256GB SSD, 16GB.

I decided to go with the 256GB SSD to add 2.5 inch "1TB HDD", but I'm not sure if the 84WHr Battery not large to make an available room to the 2.5 inch drive.

if anyone have any idea about this please help me to make the right decision.

XPS15 (l502x) unable to access BIOS

Hi guys,

I'm trying to access the BIOS of my XPS15, but I'm not able to. The reason i want to access it is because i'm having battery issues which i'm trying to troubleshoot.

When i boot the laptop i get an error message that the charging of the battery is disabled. Press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. The next thing i see when i press f2 is the Windows logo (same thing obviously goes for pressing f1). When i reboot the laptop without the battery (so i don't get the error message) i can't enter the BIOS either, even tough i'm constantly smashing f2.

Things i've tried so far:

- tried both an external and the laptop-keyboard (both are known good)
- removed the battery and power-adapter, pressed the power button for 20 sec, plugged the power-adapter back in.
- booting without the battery
- pressing f8 or f12 during booting
- flashed the BIOS with the latest version of the Dell-site

I'm pretty much running out of ideas here. 

TB16 New Dock with Latitude 7480 not working

Hi Dell Community,

As some of you know, the traditional Dell docking stations (aka E-Port Replicators) switched to the TB16 and other similar types. I only have 1 TB16 docking station that arrived so I don't know if it's defective. Basically I cannot get it to work with the 7480 and I'll add the info below. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The laptop only detects the power coming from the TB16, nothing else.

- OS Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit

- I followed the steps on the Dell Knowledge Base [How to Use and Troubleshoot the Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB16)

- Under Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 Manual Driver installation, there is no Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver or Intel Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Update under Chipset. 

- I've updated everything else

- BIOS: initially the Thunderbolt Adapter Configuration settings were all unchecked and greyed out. I performed  a BIOS reset to factory settings and now it is still greyed out but now [x] Enable Thunderbolt Technology Support is checked. Even before and after it was checked, the TB16 still did not work.

Some techs online wrote that they had to remove the CAB files in their Windows 7/10 images and had to follow the manually TB16 install (9 steps) as a workaround. The TB16 specs confirms that it is compatible with the 7480 model.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a driver issue that we're waiting for Dell to fix or should I return the TB16 docking station back to Dell as defective?

Inspiron 15 7537 Login Screen Freeze after Windows 10 Installation

After running Windows 8.1. on my Inspiron 7537 for more than 3.5 years without a single issue, I decided to upgrade to Windows 10.  Installed Windows 10 with bootable USB flash drive after formatting and creating two partitions on my SSD. Installation went smoothly and successfully. The system would operate smoothly for about 2 hours. I customized some stuff, installed extensions for Edge surfed in the internet using WIFI. All of the sudden it would crash, I rebooted without any issues. After a couple of minutes it would crash again and from this point on reboot would only work until the login screen. As soon as I entered my  login password it would freeze. I tried to reboot tons of times.

-Booting in Secure Mode works well, no issues

-Dell pre-boot system assessment worked well, no problems diagnosed

-Windows Startup Repair didn't work

(-Windows service hotline/chat was a waste of time)

-tried to format and reinstall Windows three times, problem remains. After some time it would crash, and then upon entering my login password the login screen freezes.

I am on a work assignment in Ethiopia. Internet speed here is really slow. Within these 2 hours (after first installation. It was about 60 minutes after the second installation.) that the system worked perfectly fine I tried to download the missing Dell drivers (Touchpad, Nvidia graphic drivers, etc) but could not finish it until it crashed because the internet here is too slow. Also in the background it keeps automatically downloading windows updates. I kept the boot setting in legacy mode (switched off UEFI and secure boot in order to boot from the USB drive).

I have no idea what it could be and why the system would run smoothly for some time, then crashes and then freeze when logging in. Do you have any ideas, suggestions, solutions?

How can I get the serial number of the stolen Dell laptop. I only have charger adapter, nothing else. Is it possible to get the serial number in any way.

I had registered the laptop into my microsoft account and it shows 12 digit number not sure if it's serial number.

Dell Inspiron 7000 has a hinge problem , they just break the armrest as it has tight hinges and weak screw that hold the hinges and unfortunately it's not cover be Dell , it's better not to buy Inspiron 7000 series with 1000 bucks and they pop open in 6 months . Thank you guys


Inspiron 15 N5010 - Video play interruption while downloading or any other process are ongoing

Hi,

I'm using Inspiron 15 N5010 laptop, recently its noticed that while a video is played in through a browser (either Firefox or chrome) opening another tab in the same brower or any other downloads done through browser or any other application, video gets interrupted and cracks the audio with a bread of zz noise. All drivers are up to date. There is any recent updates available for Graphics driver for this version of laptop, last update was in 2012. Currently am running windows 10 OS. This disruption *** me off as am not able to listen to music in you-tube and do another download process or any other process at the same time.

I was initially thinking its browser problem, but same interruption noticed in any of the browser. So thought about Graphics Driver but it seems up to date.

Could you suggest a solution for this problem?

I have a new XPS 9560 with a Killer wireless card. The card is killing my local network even after updating it to the newest drivers. I had to downgrade it to an older Qualcomm driver to get it to stop doing that. But the card is still slow.

I bought this laptop last week through the Dell site. IT HASN'T BEEN 30 DAYS. I have never had such an awful experience with any sort of support personnel in any company. This guy just literally cut me off without any warning, after I was transferred to him from another clueless tech who said the only solution was to replace the whole laptop (the problem is just a wifi card).

I am returning this XPS because of my terrible experience with Dell. I will *never* purchase another Dell laptop/PC ever again.

laptop thinks my keyboard is a dell thunderbolt

so as the title says my laptop alienware 15 r3 pops a window up saying that a dell thunderbolt has been connected but not all features are accesable on this device.... I DONT OWN ONE!!!

this appears randomly and is very annoying. however it only happens when i have a keyboard plugged in

(i use an external keyboard as the laptop one is to small for my liking and i also have big hands so this is a big deal for me)

if anyone can help me with this id be greatly appreciated

Keep Getting Disconnected from wireless internet!!!

I Just bought a new dell inspiron 15 (7579). I have been having constant trouble staying connected to my home internet. Every other device hasn't had any troubles besides this laptop. I thought i might have had a defective network card so i exchanged it for a new one (same model).. Still having the same issues. I have reached out to my ISP but everything is running fine with modem/router.. I have ran diagnostics tests from dell's website with no success. This is beyond frustrating!
