Dell will not honor my warranty

I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop a couple of months ago. I worked fine for the first 3 weeks. Then I began to have High Disk usage problems and the laptop would basically be inoperable. And so my nightmare begins. After no less than15 hours and working with three different Dell computer technicians and Dell Connect and twwo complete re-installs of Windows 10, my laptop still has the same issue. (High Disk Usage) 95-100 percent all the time and the laptop will not work.

Dell will not take my computer back to fix it. Dell wants me to continue to waste my time over the phone with their computer technicians until the end of time. I have a defective Dell laptop that I paid good money for. Dell has taken my money and left me with an inoperable product. It is wrong for me to be involved in the repair process unless I agree to it. I do not agree to helping you fix this computer anymore, I have had enough. Honor the warranty, take this laptop back and do whatever is necessary to fix it. But leave me out of it.

WD15 & Latitude 7x80 Needs to be reconnected after power loss

In my office I have a Dell WD15 USB-C "dock" that is almost permanently connected to a Latitude 7280. On an evening my laptop will shutdown, after which the plug socket is turned off.

When arriving to the office the next day, flicking the power on at the socket, results in power returning  to everything. However, the light on the USB-C cable from the dock, is not on and I have to disconnect the USB-C cable from the laptop and reconnect it before the dock wakes up.

From there, I am able to use the power button on the dock to power up the laptop.

USB Powershare IS enabled in the BIOS.

Am I missing something? It's a bit annoying.

XPS 13 Hello fails on battery

I have a new XPS 13. Works great. I love the fingerprint login option through the Hello feature of Win 10. However, I've found that if the laptop goes to sleep or is shut down on battery, Hello is not available on startup or wakeup. My password works just fine.

If I shut down or sleep while on power, I can restart or wake up on battery and hello works. It's as though closing down on power sets a flag or something that triggers Hello to be active for the next start or wake.

Doesn't make sense to me, but that's the pattern. Any ideas?

Thanks

Flaky USB ports on WD15

I've had my WD15 for 10 months and it has been as frustrating as all heck. It took me nearly 8 weeks to figure out how to get the BIOS etc updated, firmware installed etc because it came with no useful instructions and the guides that are on the Dell website didn't exist at the time. The thunderbolt dock, which I wanted and was available when I bought my laptop at the end of July 2016 was withdrawn from sale when I ordered the dock, so I settled for the WD15. It has been a nightmare!

Over time, the USB ports seem to have become progressively less reliable (although they've never been flash). Tonight, I followed the WD15 instrutions and installed the Dell Command software, which downloaded a few extra updates, a few of which repeatedly failed. This led to BSOD errors, Dell recovery, system resores etc etc, which wasted nearly 4 hours.

The Tag number on teh bottom of the dock isn't recognised by the dell warranty status system. What options do I have? Googling, I don't seem to be alone with my poor experience of dell docking products.

No BitLocker option for 2nd hard drive

My IT department and I have been trying to enable BitLocker protection for my second hard drive, 1TB Seagate SSHD in the bay (so, SSD for OS drive, BitLocker is fine, bay for DVD?Second drive swap not able to use BitLocker).

We have looked at Group Policy, I have two partitions on the drive (one 500MB, the rest in a second volume). As mentioned, BitLocker (managed with TPM by IT) is working fine.

The second hard drive does not show up in the BitLocker Drive Encryption control panel applet...either as a Fixed data drive or as a Removable data drive.

The second drive does show up in Dell Data Protection as a removable drive. Which, technically it may be,,,but at the same time it is connected directly to the motherboard, so it really should show as a fixed disk.

I have seen many, many posts on how to enable BitLocker...nothing I have tried has worked.

Has anyone else run into this and fixed it? Maybe a domain Group Policy setting that could be overriding the local I set up using gpedit.msc?

Anything come to mind?

Thanks!

Mouse Driver

I got a wired mouse with a Dell Desktop PC that I purchased back a while ago (Model number J660D).  I am using the mouse on a laptop with Win 10 64 bit PC.  The PC identifies the mouse as "HD-compliant mouse".

Is there a dell driver for this mouse that I should be installing rather the driver loaded automatically by the Win OS?

Thanks for your help.

Which dock do I pick for Latitude 5480? WD15, D3100 or D6000?

Which dock do I pick for Latitude 5480?

  • Dell Universal Dock D6000
  • Dell WD15 (
  • Dell UltraHD Dock D3100

Our goal is to dock the E5480 with two monitors (Dell P2417H), have wired USB keyboard/mouse, wired ethernet with USB Printer and a USB scanner?

D6000 has 2x DP ports, so it seems to be the best fit?

WD15  has mDP and HDMI out, which means I would need either:

a) mDP to DP adapter plus DP cable for MON1+ HDMI cable for MON2  or b) mDP to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable for MON1 + HDMI cable for MON2

D3100 has 1XDP and 2xHDMI out.   Could use both HDMI out, but reading on forums HDMI is unresponsive during sleep/awake PC functions?

Which dock will gives us the least headache?

Laptop CPU Upgrade

I have an Inspiron 15 3521 laptop with an i3-3217U cpu in it. I was curious about the possibility of replacing the i3 processor with a better one (i5 maybe). I understand that i would need to find a CPU that would be compatible. My question is in two parts. 1) Is it even possible to upgrade the processor on this laptop. 2) if I put in a processor with a higher clock speed that puts out more heat would the computer be able to handle it? Current TDP of the processor is 17W.

Hello, I want to charge my Dell XPS 15 through Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C). The XPS 15 has a maximum wattage of 130 Watts. My monitor (with USB-C) has a maximum wattage of 60 watts. Is it still possible to charge my XPS when it is on full-load (130 watts). Some people told me that the had some problems with their MacBooks (charging through USB-C). Maybe I am wrong and somebody could tell my how charging with USB-C and my monitor (LG-27UD88) works.

Battery malfunctioning

Hello,

My laptop model is a Dell Inspiron 3442, running Windows 10. I've recently reset it in order to use it for another job.

With the laptop completely reset, I've noticed the battery wasn't recognized anymore.

"QuickSet" popups saying that I should turn off the laptop and wait for it to cooldown would appear frequently, even though I could feel the battery was at room temperature.

I've always used the laptop connected to an outlet at all times, because if I unplug it, the laptop instantly shuts down.

But soon I'll need to use the laptop remotely (with no outlet nearby), and I need to get this fixed.

After you shoot me with the same solutions, I'll be listing here what I've already tried:

  • Turning OFF, unplugging from outlet from a couple of seconds, removing battery, turning ON, uninstalling that battery device thingy from the Device Manager, turning OFF, putting the battery back on, turning ON.
  • Using Dell Suport software to diagnose
  • Installing the BIOS (but it would require 10% of the battery full)
  • Running that diagnose thingy at Dell website with Dell Device Dection System thingy

Well, if there is any information I've missed spreading, just let me know. :)

XPS 9560 - TSX NI not present in i5 7300HQ

Hi

While checking through CPU-Z and hwinfo, it says that the processor does not have TSX.

I need this feature for performance reasons as RPCS3( A PS3 emulator) has implemented TSX to improve its performance.

If you check the intel ark site it says this processor supports TSX.NI

Site:ark.intel.com/.../Intel-Core-i5-7300HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz

So my question is, Has Dell disabled this feature?

My BIOS firmware is the latest 1.3.4 and I am not sure if it was disabled by this new firmware. i cannot confirm this because I havent checked this in the older firmware.

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 15-5559 takes forever to turn on

$

Compared to the other Dell Inspiron 5559s I have seen, and in fact compared to all laptops I have seen, this start-up time is not normal.  I don't mean how long it takes to boot to Windows.  I mean how long it takes to get it to display the Dell logo upon start-up.

There is no power light (since for some reason Dell decided it doesn't need one??), so I can never tell if I successfully turned it on or not until a good 6 seconds later when the keyboard's backlight lights up.  Then it takes another 3 seconds for the screen to turn on.  This definitely has something to do with the CMOS, or the BIOS, or something.  Everything is up-to-date, including drivers.  Please don't treat me like someone who doesn't know how to use a computer.

This has been an issue since I received the laptop in 2016.  Dell told me it's normal.  Dell was wrong.  Nothing new there.  I recently used another Dell Inspiron 15-5559 and was surprised by how responsive it was at powering on.  A function mastered on computers since computers were first made, and yet it performs badly on this 2016 model.

Any suggestions besides paying Dell a fortune?  It is not in warranty.

Disabling the mSata caching drive in a XPS 14

Hello all,

I still own an XPS 14 from 2014 (now running Windows 10 Pro) and would now like to try and extend its life a little more by replacing the HDD with an SDD.  To this end, I just bought an ADATA SU800 512GB 3D-NAND 400TB TBW SSD.

I doubt strongly that allowing the internal 128GB mSata caching drive to continue operating as a cache will improve the performance of my new SSD.  In fact, it might well slow the new drive down.

Can anyone tell me how to switch off the caching function on the machine please?

Cheers!

Wifi only work on mains power Dell XPS 13 9360

My wifi when plugged in is fine, downloading as expected at around 100Mbs as soon as I disconnect the power even on 100% battery the download rate drops to less than .02Mbs.

I've updated all the drivers and the BIOS using the Dell updating tools.

The Dell support assist is just sitting on data transfer verification test after 17 minutes.

I cant download the Killer drivers as it tells me theyre not signed for the system.

it basically makes the laptop unusable on battery, which is one of the main points of having a laptop.

BIOS update removing Windows Activation Key?

$

I have a Latitude 6430U and I have upgraded it from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I have reimaged the laptop several times using a Windows 10 image without any issues. However, today I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version and afterwards wiped the drive and put a new Windows 10 image on it. When the image completed, it was saying that Windows wasn't activated. I found that strange as it's never asked for that information before. It normally auto-activates. I used a tool called OEM key to try and get the Product Key and it told me "unable to open the MSDM table". I've never gotten that error before. Usually it pulls the key up and I can copy and paste the key to activate Windows. Luckily I still have the Windows activation key under the battery and I was able to activate Windows. My only thought is that the BIOS update wiped out the Windows Activation key on the motherboard and that is why it's unable to register/activate with Microsoft after a new image. Can anyone confirm this suspicion?

XPS 9560 Memory

Pre-purchase, online customer support told me that the XPS 9560 came with one 16GB dimm.

Based on this information, I bought the computer and an additional 16GB dimm chip.

Turns out, it came with two 8GB dimm.

I've filled out an online request order support form 3 days ago and I have not been contacted.  How long does this usually take?  How can I follow up to get Dell to contact me?
