Windows 7 Dell Laptop won't boot past windows logo

I recently put a magnet on my laptop. My screen went black so I turned it off from pushing the power button. I clicked Enter Windows Normally when that came up, after that the Windows Logo came. It won't go past that and goes back to Enter in Safe Mode or Enter Windows Normally. I have tried running the repair disk and searching for problems. It was attempting to fix disk errors. It went on for too long, I tried repairing it again. It detected no problems, how do I fix this issue?

Dell Vostro 2520 1600Mhz memory installed only running at 1333Mhz?

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Vostro 2520 Laptop running windows 8 Enterprise and I have the most current BIOS of A09. I upgraded the memory to 8GB of DDR3 PC3-12800 which should run at 1600Mhz. However when I look in task manager under performance for the memory it shows the speed running at only 1333Mhz. I double check the dell owners manual to see if PC3-12800 is compatible with my laptop before I upgraded and it is. If you go to crucial memory upgrade for the Vostro 2520 it says it can use PC3-12800 or PC3-14900. In fact the original RAM was PC3-12800. But I never looked at what speed it was running at.

Why is this happening?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dell Inspiron 1721 Nightmare *please help*

I have had this laptop for about 5 years and its given me problems since I got it. I have had to reseat the RAM 2 or 3 times... and to no avail I always got the blue screen and then nothing at all from it. Just recently I managed to install Windows 8 and that fixed a lot of the problems. It had been working just fine until a few days ago when i found someone to buy it from me and lo and behold I get the blue screen of death again and then it wont even start.

After running the diagnostics it had failed the Memory portion of it so I went out and purchased 4gb (2x 2g) to replace it. Once installed I restart to the laptop and I get a message "The amount of memory has been changed blah blah blah please press f2 to continue f5 for diagnostics" and then I press continue and now all i've been getting is, after the POST, a single white blinking line on a black screen. I run the diagnostics again and I get the same memory fail... with the two brand new sticks installed. After switching them back and forth about 3 times and resetting the BIOS I manage to get the memory portion of the diagnostics to pass but now it wont boot from the hard drive nor will it let me choose to boot from the hard drive. In the diagnostics testing it says it tests the hard drive and gives it a "running" status

Hopefully someone can shed some light on why I cant boot from the hard drive before this thing goes out my window

NVIDIA video card not recognized on e6500

I had a hard drive fail so I had a new one installed and windows 7 pro 32 bit installed. I was going to intall all the updates and so on myself, but I cannot see the NVIDIA quadro video card in device manager and when I go to install the driver it say software is not compantible with hardware. I even tried re-installing windows. Updated the BIOS, etc. Tried support with NVIDIA with no luck...they wanted to push is off on dell. He said something about the VBIOS?

Anyway, is the video card near the hard drive and could it have been knocked loose?

Inspiron 7520 (15R SE) Windows 8.1 update- AMD Catalyst Control Center driver malfunction

$

Hey all, first time poster here, joined the forum to post this.

I have seen many difficulties people have had with the Inspiron 7520's switchable graphics card and driver malfunctions behind those problems. Many of these problems have gone unresolved on forums, and people overall have been very frustrated that Dell would sell a computer that does not allow the user to utilize the built in 2GB AMD 7730M dedicated graphics card.

I have fortunately not been plagued with these problems...until now. I did an update from Windows 8 (native OS my computer came with) to Windows 8.1, and immediately have experienced problems, namely that the Windows 8 drivers for AMD and Intel graphics are not supported by DirectX 11.2. I did not think this was a problem initially, as Windows update fixed the Intel drivers, but have experienced continued problems with the Catalyst Control Center. This is the third day since I installed Windows 8.1 and I have yet to find a solution.

Problem: After updating all drivers to Inspiron 7520 Windows 8.1 drivers from this website http://ftp.dell.com/published/Pages/inspiron-15r-se-7520.html#TopSolutions, which contains all the supposedly right drivers for my computer running 8.1, I continue to have trouble. CCC opens as it should, the interface is flawless etc etc except for setting programs to  "High Performance" does NOT allow the program to utilize the AMD card. There is no difference in performance between "Power Saving" and "High Performance" settings when changed in the CCC. Games run at terribly low FPS, as does any other graphic intensive program.

What I've Tried: Other than refreshing my PC to Windows 8 (and losing half my apps in the process), I have tried nearly everything.

- Uninstalling all display drivers and allowing them to update through Device Manager. (no difference)

- Uninstalling all drivers and reinstalling them from the Drivers and Utilities CD that came with my PC.  (Direct 3D cannot initialize due to older CCC not being supported by DirectX 11.2)

- Uninstalling all drivers and installing new drivers from the linked site above. (everything APPEARS to work, but CCC settings still do not allow programs to utilize dedicated graphics).

- Uninstalling drivers and reinstalling from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-15r-se-7520?driverId=HWM8D&osCode=W764&fileId=3176127380&languageCode=en&categoryId=VI&dgc=SM&cid=269844&lid=4962757 for INTEL

and http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/uk/en/ukdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-15r-se-7520?driverId=RH19N&osCode=W864&fileId=3080387755 for AMD card.

(Intel drivers informed me I did not meet the system requirements for install, AMD drivers could not initialize Direct3D= Windows 8.1 compatibility problem).

So now, the only options left to me are to refresh my PC back to Windows 8.0 where everything was working perfectly, thereby losing half my programs OR Dell will come out with a custom driver for the Inspiron 7520 that works with Windows 8.1.

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME DIFFICULTY AS I AM PLEASE POST/REPLY/DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET THIS TOPIC ESCALATED. UNTIL THEN, A SIMPLE DRIVER MALFUNCTION IS SEVERELY LIMITING HARDWARE THAT WE PAID GOOD MONEY FOR AND CANNOT USE.

Hard drive failing? Error messages on PC check up?

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110.

Have not been experiencing any problems until a Dell PC Check came up with the following hard drive errors:

Targeted Read Test Failed WHD20-JNR

SMART Short Self Test Failed WHD16-EHX

Have gone into Dell diagnostics on Start Up and the error code give then is 2000-0146.

All indications from other posts I have searched for seem to say the hard drive is on the way out, but at present my laptop is running fine. laptop is now out of warranty.

Have seen a couple of posts saying that reseating the hard drive may help?

Is anyone going to give me some good news, or is the hard drive doomed!?

Dell XPS Customer Care is horrible

After many attempts to fix my XPS laptop Dell said they would replace my Laptop months ago( Bought a three year warranty with my Laptop) I have called many times with them wanting to send me a horribly cheap computer for the XPS that I have. Each time I would say no and they would say we will call you back tomorrow. Not only did they not call me back but pretty much gave me the run around when I did call them. Then one day I was sent a Desk Top computer instead of a Laptop computer. I called them up, told them I just received a this computer ( Desk Top) that I do not want ( Horribly Cheap ALL in ONE Computer) They then tried to give a computer that was not even close to my specs and I said no. they said they would call me tomorrow. Called back the next day and of course they said they where still working on the computer ( June 2013 to present. still have not fixed the problem) When asked to speak to a manager, he said a manager could not fix my problem and he would say the same thing that was being to me know. In turn, I said I would still like to speak to a manager or someone higher up and he then go speak to someone higher up and hung up on me.

Will PhoenixBios allow boot from USB drives (Inspiron 5100) ?

$

Hi,

I want to give a new lease of life to ancient Inspiron 5100 laptop, by using Linux (Puppy) installed to pendrive.

The current BIOS is Phoenix, which has no boot option for USB (options are: HDD / 'Floppy devices' / optical drive / Onboard something or other).

To get USB boot function (as far as I can see from Dell site) I'll need to flash BIOS update first to A22, which will then allow flashing from downloaded .exe up to A32.

The optical drive has packed up, so that's not an option (I already tried a CD boot with A22, boot order set for that, + HDD removed).

So, I guess my only two options are either:

1) get a new onboard optical drive

2) get a usb drive (floppy or optical)

Anyone know if option 2) would work?

Any other ideas ?!

Many thanks

I have a Dell Vostro 360 (Windows 7) it can't turn on properly, in fact it can't turn on at all, it goes off before getting to the desk top screen and then turn on again by itself, it keep on doing that in cycle, I have not been able to turn on this computer for quite a long time, I think it's having a memory or all other problems that preventing it to turn on normally, on the day this started, I downloaded and deleted many softwares all by myself, some were very important to make the machine function properly.

How can I fix this problem? Can someone help with step by step instructions?

I've been having trouble with my Dell Inspiron N5040 lately and now can't even boot up Windows. The black screen reads the following:

This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:
US5,307,459, US5,434,872, US5,732,094, US6,570,884, US 6,115,776 and

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Series v1.24 (10/07/10)

I have checkd the boot order, its HDD as first

I have removed and reseated the hard drive and it didn't fix the problem.
Any assistance you could give me would be much appreciated.

I need a drivers for Inspiron 17 3737 for Windows 7 64 bit

100% Active, 0 KB/sec

$

I've got a brand new E6510, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, 500gig ST9500420AS drive.  Problem is that it periodically "freezes" with the drive activity light on solid, and the resource monitor disk activity page indicates "100% Highest Active Time" and "0 KB/sec Disk I/O" and a Queue length of 50, and usually there are very few processes with disk activity, and nothing suspicious like virus scanners or update utilities.  This most often occurs when waking up from several hours of sleep (though not immediately, usually after it's been awake for a few minutes).  Meanwhile, windows indicate they are "not responding".

After many minutes in this state, drive activity % suddenly drops to reasonable levels, KB/sec climbs back to something normal, and Queue length drops.  Clearly, the drive was not responding, though no errors are reported.  This is often accompanied by periodic loud clicks from the drive.

Anyone else have this problem?  Any solutions?

1-TB RAID 0 on XPS M2010

Hi, all!

Noob here on the Dell forums.

I want to ask if anyone out there has tried installing two 500-GB hard drives on an XPS M2010 and linked them in RAID 0 for a total of 1 terabyte storage.  I plan to do this on my M2010, but I want to know first if this is at all possible for this model of laptop before I buy the components (actually, except for the hard drives themselves, I already have all components -- cables, caddy and all).  Are there any limits set by the BIOS or hard drive controllers or anything else on the laptop that might prohibit this?

Thanks!

New XPS 15, screen blank and beep-beeps forever.

Hi,

I have a brand new XPS 15, i7, 512 SSD, 8Gb RAM (Sn. <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>). Few days old; have hardly used the machine. Now at start-up the screen remains blank, and a loud beep-beep-beep for ever. One time I managed to get through with pressing and holding the On button: then machine work normally. Now that trick doesn't work anymore either. Completely stuck. Two questions:

(i) What the reason?

(ii) What's the permanent solution?

Thanks

Ludo
