Windows 8 and new hard drive

Hi,

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3537 and I am still new to laptops and windows 8 in general. I am thinking of buying a SSD drive to replace my current one.

Browsing through the net and then checking my device I noticed there is no product key. A small search showed that Dell includes the key inside the BIOS. What does that mean? If I manually reinstal windows 8 the key will automatically appear?

And a question about the recovery DVD: If I buy the new SSD and start my device, the recovery DVD alone is enough to install windows 8 on the new hard drive?

XPS 17 l702x will not power up!?

My XPS 17 L702X has worked perfectly until today.

I did some work from home, and then I turned off the system this morning, and returned back to it a few hours later, and it would not fire up.

I have removed the battery and done a memory dump 'Power Button' restart, and nothing.

I have tried with both power cable connected and unplugged - Nothing!

I am just a couple of months outside my business warranty.

Can DELL do anything to help please? I need my system back ASAP for work.

xps 12 (haswell) won't wake up after going to sleep

My new laptop will not wake when it has gone to sleep.

Neither the keyboard, touchpad, screen or the power button will pull it from its slumber.

The fan starts, the light on the keyboard comes on, but it will never resume.

I have to turn ut off by holding "down" the power button for 10 secs, wait a bit, and then turn it on again.

I found a hint somewhere else that the bug could be related to Intel smart start. I disabled it in the bios, and now the computer resumes like expected.

However after boot up I get an error saying that "it seems smart start has been disabled" or something like that.

Is there a bios fix for this in the works? Or am I the only one with this problem?

Hi All,

as as you can tell I am new to this forum but may have a problem that some may have experienced .. I have a Dell Inspiron M5010 that I've owned since 2010-2011 .. Recently I have been experiencing an occurring problem ... My screen randomly blacks out and comes back on again , but when it does come back on it's only for a few seconds to a minute than blacks out again for 10 min or so ... The lights are flickering indicating it's still on but the screen isn't  coming back on ... Ive looked the on the forum to see if anyone has a similar problem but nothing that I have see to help me out ... Any help would be greatly appreciated .. I love this laptop and I have a lot of pictures and music on it but I Cant see or listen to anything if the screen is blank on me ... Again thank you for your time and patience

All of a sudden my wifi has stopped working. It no longer detects networks. I have tried reinstalling drivers, updating, everything. What else can I do until I can safely assume the wifi is a hardware issue?

Keyboard problem on my Inspiron 1525

The keyboard on my old Inspiron suddenly stopped typing a handful of letters and punctuation.  I just replaced it with a new keyboard that came in the mail and sadly it also isn't typing all the keys.  The keys not working (nothing happens when I press them) are at the right side, in a vertical row including the period, l, o, and 9.  For now all other keys seem to work.

I am not very saavy at repairing anything and was proud I replaced the keyboard only to see it also fail.  

Is there anything else I can do to fix this?  I'd like to get a little more time out of this laptop.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and also a newbie,

Mi dell Inspiron n5010  Reg Model: P10F just crashed and giving me this 7 beep sound on the BIOS, searching in dells technical forum it appears to be the CPU.

Therefore I wanted to know simple questions;

1. what kind of socket type uses this computer?
2. any intel core i5 or i3  would do it? or does it have to be a special kind of cpu ?
(sorry for this lame question but i need to know specifically what to buy)

I'm not sure if the CPU might be the problem or it could be  the motherboard:
3. what would be the name of the motherboard i'm looking for?

Inspiron 11 3000 Series (3137) 8gb RAM?

I'm looking to upgrade the ram on the newly released inspiron 11 3137. The laptop has one dimm slot that is also user accessible. It is currently only shipping with 2gb of ram. I realize the manual states it can support up to 4gb of ram, but has anyone tried adding a single 8gb stick?


It comes with win8 64 bit, and packs a recently released 4th gen haswell celeron. I'm thinking it may support an 8gb stick, but don't want to order without confirmation that someone has gotten it to work.

I have just spent 1 hour on the phone with the supervisor of the Out of Warranty Department for Canada about this very issue. The 7 beeps means CPU crash test failure and the processor needs replaced.

I spent $50 having the laptop checked by a local computer shop who said the memory and everything else on the laptop is fine, but on my invoice they wrote: "investigated and found there are known issues with the main boards on these computers. Dell may replace the part even with the computer out of warranty".

Unfortunately, our laptop is out of warranty and Dell will charge me to have the processor replaced. My son has learning disabilities and requires this computer as it has programs that he needs for school that we don't have the disks for. I'm incredibly frustrated that Dell will not fix the processor without charge. After the very long and frustrating discussion with the Dell representative, we have decided that we will never purchase another Dell product. I will not be having the laptop fixed as I refuse to pay for repairs for an inferior product. If it was to be fixed and overheated again and damaged the processor, they will only provide a 90 day warranty for the replacement processor.

I will now have to purchase another laptop for my son and try and obtain the programs that he needs through the school board. However, all of his voice files are lost and he will have to spend hours retraining the new programs which will cause him much frustration.

Dell does not stand behind its product in this case. Their product is faulty and they will not correct the problem unless your system is covered by warranty or you have to pay to have it fixed.

Please share this with as many people as you can and complain to Dell so that it is documented and so that they will eventually recognize that this should be a recall for this model.

Hello,

I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15r 5537 with touch screen and I would like to install Windows 7.

I have seen that there are no driver related to the touch screen on the support page: do you know if there are any problem related to the touch screen driver for Windows 7 or if it works just after the installation of Windows 7?

Hello

The inspiron n5010 dell laptop will not boot.  Beeps seven times.  The only thing I found on the net is that the processor is gone.  Could this be the case?  its less than a year old and cannot find the receipt.

I am having trouble with my Dell inspiron N5040 with an i3 processor laptop. I have only had the system for about 2 or so months and it suddenly stopped working. I have anti virus software so I know its not that. But I am getting a 7 beep code while trying to turn it on (while hooked to the power cord) indicating that the BIOS system may need work. When I tried turning it on the one time it did show me a blue screen saying something about the BIOS system. Now it won't show any picture at all. I was wondering if you had any advice on what to do.

DELL IS THE WORST. My family and I have always been loyal customers of Dell. ALWAYS have owned one. After literally 5 hours of being on the phone with every department dell has they still could not help me with my tablet. 

I made an original phone call to them to price out how much it would be to replace my screen because i broke it. (I didn't have any warranty on it) They decided a factory reset was the way to go to fix a problem i was not having and it RUINED my tablet. Now they are refusing to let me return it or to fix it for that matter. Their reasoning? Because my tablet is cracked. Before the factory reset my tablet was fine and now it no longer works. That was a waste of $170. P.S - Tablets only 29 days old. Still within 30 days.

Typical Dell. Never owning up to their mistakes or making it right for any of their customers. And you ask them for the corporate number and they don't have one. Of course.

All i can say is I am done with Dell and have no plans for future purchases.

Hi Dell

My N5050 laptop is beeps 5 continously when it is on.beep is starts from boot up the windows OS.the frist time i boot the laptop it was not boot up only restarting countinously with 5 beeps, and i have format the C drive and then it boots but beeping is still there i cant imagine what the problem is.. please help....   normally i can work with the laptop but it is dilemma for me..whe it beeps

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to restore a Dell Latitude C600. I was able to install Windows XP to it and all was well on my quest to making it a fully capable machine. I then purchased a new battery and DVD drive for the laptop since both were broken. For about three weeks or so, the laptop was left alone. As I turned it on a few days ago, Windows XP told me that it could no longer boot. Windows XP can still boot into safe mode, but it cannot boot with networking or command line enabled. The system freezes when loading agp440.sys. This seems to be a common freeze due to graphics card driver issues, but even after purging the driver from the laptop, it will still freeze.

At this point I decided to just try to reinstall the OS. I have a Windows XP CD and a Linux DVD. I tried using the new DVD drive to boot Linux, but the laptop skips right over the CD/DVD drive and instead tries to boot from the HDD only. With the HDD removed, it is impossible to boot at all. I then tried the old CD drive since it still worked despite having a broken drawer. It is also detected in the BIOS, but is unbootable. I can get neither Linux nor Windows XP to boot so I am out of options.

What can I do to restore the PC? I do not care which operating system, so long as I can get one installed.

Hello, one a day, when I first turn my laptop on, it will load desktop, weather app, etc. Approx. a min or 2 later, the screen goes black, no error message, nothing. Power light stays on but screen goes dark and I have to cold boot it. Laptop is approx 2 yrs old. Runs win 7 Home 64 bit on a 2Ghz AMD quad-core processor....this only happens once a day when first turning it on...works fine after rebooting....

I bought my laptop about 2 years ago.  For the first time, I tried to burn a cd (using iTunes) but I got an error message. I tried this four times but just get a clicking sound in the disk drive.  I'm trying to put together a cd as a 50th gift for my brother :'(  Also I've had problems downloading cds into my music library (doesn't like old cds; can only assume there's a formatting issue).  Grateful for any help here as I haven't a clue how to sort this???
