Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?
I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.
So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

My Dell laptop windows 7 service tag 44J2KR1
Every time I turn my laptop on, an error occurred. Cannot read disk error pops up and tells me to hit Cntrl+Alt+Felt button. I ran a ePSA Pre-boot System Assesment on it and it is saying that there is an error on my hard drive. With a Error Code: 2000-0142, Validation number: 57443. I no longer have a warranty on my laptop, but was wondering if there is anything I can do to get this fix either free or with little cost.

Cursor jumps around when typing
This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?
I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself. Sorry about all this running commentary on what's happening, but it was misbehaving before and now it's not.
Does anyone have any clues on this problem? While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.

M4800 and Optimus?
A few of my colleagues are now beginning to receive their M4800s now. Mine is coming in a few days, but after using their systems, I have found that even after updating everything, there is no graphics switching. Their configurations are all essentially the same, either a 4800MQ or 4900MQ with the K2100m and QHD+ screen. I don't see any hardware limitations (like the M4700 with IPS) that could disable Optimus.
I have asked order support and tech support but no one knows the answer to this question (does K2100m and QHD+ screen support Optimus?). If any of you have a configuration with these parts, and can tell me whether your system has Optimus or not, that would be great. Also if a Dell rep could confirm that the system either currently supports Optimus, will support it with a future BIOS update, or will not support it, that would be great.

Inspiron 3721 Script Error
Just re-installed software for my sewing machine from Husqvarna Viking. When I try to get to the Configure page, I'm getting the following and this is ONLY on this application--no others:

What is that and how do I get around it? I installed the software in the order (7 modules). Can't register the system since I can't get to the configure page. I paid $700 for this software and I need it to work. Making $$ with sewing machine! Running Windows 8.
Also tried updating to 8.1 and when I go to the Store app it says I am not connected to the internet (but I am). useless app.

strange power issue on Inspiron N4010
So, a friend dropped off an Inspiron N4010 that looked like it is was in excellent condition, but he said it would not power up - no lights, beeps, or anything. He said I could keep it as a toy for my kids or for parts. Well, I hooked it up to an AC adapter, saw that the battery charging light came on, and then I powered on the system. Interestingly, it booted up just fine and showed no system errors of any sort of problems. I shut the system down and told my friend that it looked like there was no problem with the system.
The next day, however, I tried to power up the system again and got nothing. I tried to boot with just the battery, with the battery and AC adapter plugged in, and with the AC adapter alone and the battery removed. When the AC adapter and the battery are plugged in at the same time, the battery charging light does come on. Additionally, the AC adaptor does work fine with another compatible laptop.
So, I am unsure where to start troubleshooting this. The battery itself does not have a test button or indicator, so I cannot tell if it is actually holding a charge. I am also unsure if the N410 model will actually operate with just the AC adapter and no battery. Can anyone confirm if it should be able to operate without a battery attached?
If the N4010 can run with just the AC adapter and not the battery, then there must be some kind of short on the system board, or maybe a faulty breaker? Does anyone know of a mainboard reference for the N4010 that shows any breakers? If so, I can use my multi-meter to test for in/out current.
If the mainboard can only run with the battery actually attached, then maybe the battery itself is faulty and I can get a replacement. I am hoping this is the case.
The tantalizing thing for me, is that the system did boot once, perfectly.

New Vostro 5470 Does it have mSATA port ?
I want to know if this model (Vostro 5470) have the msata port ? i have seen it in owners manual but when ever i asked a dell representative (chat sessions) they said it don't have . I know currently the available configurations don't have msata ssd pre installed but i have mSATA 64G (half height ) with me so i want to buy 5470 and put it in by myself. But before I buy it I want to be sure if it have the mSATA support ! that's the only thing stopping me to buying it.
I need a confirm answer.

Finger Print Reader not working properly on Windows 8.1 Pro - Vostro 5470
I am having problem with Finger print reader and Persona Software.
It was working well when i got the laptop with window 8.0 SL . It had only Chinese language so i upgraded it to windows 8.1 Pro. It (upgrade adviser)asked me to un install the persona software. which i did. After upgrade completed, I installed the persona software back (6.2) then also installed the update (6.2.1.309) and it was working perfect.
Then i installed the mSATA in my laptop and fresh installed the Windows 8.1 Pro . I installed the drivers in proper order. And installed the persona software 6.2 and the update. But Now strange thing is that persona software can not connect to sensor! when ever i want to use finger print reader with persona it says can't connect to finger print reader .
I have installed the latest driver from dell for the sensor and windows own finger print log in is working perfect. But its limited to windows login only.
I want to use the persona software because it can be used with websites and also with applications .
I have already tried the windows 8 version of drivers with or without compatibility option but no success!
Any one have Idea how to make this work ?

RAM Upgrade for Dell Studio 1749

Currently i have 2 x 2gb 1066 MHz ddr3-10600 cl9 ram, wanted to upgrade to Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz cl11 CMSO8GX3M2A1600C1, but windows doesn't load with this memory.
Im running intel i5 cpu, windows 7 64 bit, bios version is A08 24/03/2011. What i need to do to make them work?

XPS 12 9Q33 touch screen stops working intermittently
My XPS recently developed this issue. I traced the problem back to the I2C HID Device in Human Interface Devices which was stopped with code 34. I followed suggestion in another post; downloaded and installed Intel I2C BUS driver for Touch screen and Touchpad version 1.0.1.121, A01. Now touch screen works for a while and then stops. In order to re-activate the touch pad I have to restart the computer which is rather annoying.
How can I fix the problem?

Today I updated the drivers and turned off the Bluetooth; but it is impossible to follow all the thread. Can anyone send updates about the most recent solution? (if any ...)

my problem is that it shows that I have 48.3 GB free out of 365 GB while when I select "all" the files and folders inside that disk "H:/" the size does not exceed 160 GB ! So where are the rest of 150 GB?!

XPS 15 L502 - Where is the Num Lock Key?
The subject line says it all. My new XPS 15 notebook apparently has no number lock function on its keyboard. I good deal of special characters from time to time and the number lock function is necessary to use character codes like "alt+0149" to get a bullet character. Going back and forth between character map is a real time-wasting non-starter.
I tried pulling up the on screen keyboard, but it doesn't seem to have a number lock function either. Is there some sort of hidden secret on accessing the number lock function?

INSPIRON N5110 USB3.0 not working WINDOWS 8 x64

I purchased a new laptop almost an year ago. Until December 2012 my laptop was working great but due to my projects I was to shift on windows 8 platform for development. So i installed my newly purchased windows 8 x64 enterprise and used it but after installation and configuration my system started to crash then i contacted Microsoft, Intel for support but they said that this is problem with bios contact your manufacturer. then i contact dell support they said to upgrade your bios version to n11. then i upgraded my bios and my system worked great but unfortunately i was unable to use my 3.0 port...
i tried all the drivers i also installed win 7 but nothing worked...not even on linux os...i am currently unable to use 3.0 port plz solve my issue. this issue came after the installation of bios n11 until that everything was working fine. i also contacted the authorized dealer in my area to check if usb are working or have been wrecked but they checked the laptop thoroughly they said this laptop is A1 nothing wrong in hardware...i also told them the same issue they said to contact u on forum please solve my problem,...
i will be thankful to you guys please solve my issue...as early as possible.

disc & memory upgrade
Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade my hdd and memory in Inspiron 6400. Currently 60gd hdd and 1gb ram. Is there any limit on capacity of new disc i can put into this laptop? My bios is A13. Can I get 1tb disc?
I have 2 slots for ram so i I want to get another 1gb to have 2 altogether.
Please let me know what I should take into account when getting new stuff for my laptop, are there any restrictions, limits etc

Major problems!
Hi all
I have a m18x R1 laptop with all the whistles & bells (£2.5k) worth which I use to develop games and 3d art.
It started playing up a few days ago by booting up slowly, then it booted up with a guest / temp profile.
So I did a respawn and now it won't boot up at all and only half my keyboard is lit?
I get a black screen which goes dim after a few minutes.......and that's it.
Done a full check of all hardware which has passed, would this be a simple software issue?
oh sorry forgot to say...windows 7 x64
WTF is going guys, I can't do anything and I may have lost all of my latest work!
Update: run full system diagnostics again all passed! Tried recovery disc, came on for a short time, then os crashed.
Rebooted, keyboard lights all back but now just a black screen with a mouse cursor, move the mouse & the screen dims........and that's it nothing else!

strange touchpad issues
Hello all. I have been having strange issue with my XPS 15 (l521x) and was hoping someone could help. This past Monday the Dell tech replaced my sata drive and changed my wireless NIC from the Killer to the Dell 1901. That night I installed Win7 pro and all seemed fine except the touchpad would not work and the SSD would not show up. On boot the SSD was disabled under raid but shows as a physical device. The touchpad shows with a yellow exclamation but only when showing hidden devices. I uninstalled and reinstalled a half dozen times. Spent the day yesterday on Dell chat but they couldn't help. Tried a restore but that didn't work. Did a complete reinstall and installed drivers in the Dell correct order but same problem. Did a win 8.1 install after that - installed drivers and have the same touchpad error but the SSD shows and is accessible. BIOS and all drivers the latest. I tried the Synaptics driver from their site but it wouldn't install. Diagnostics tests is fine.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

AMD Radeon HD 7730M
Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition laptop with switchable graphics. The integrated graphics card is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the discrete is the AMD Radeon HD 7730M. I have a Intel Core i7 3632QM processor, 8GB of RAM and my operating system is Windows 8 64-bit.
I am a keen gamer and love to know that my graphics card drivers are up to date so that I get the maximum performance out of my GPU. I have recently started to notice the recent catalyst drivers that AMD have released on their website - the latest is the AMD Catalyst 13.5 Beta Driver. I have also seen the latest Intel HD Graphics 4000 Driver being released on the Intel website. I am worried about installing these updates and causing problems because they are not specifically designed for computers with switchable graphics - at least that's what I think.Also, I don't know which order they are supposed to be installed.
I have tried installing Leshcat's WHQL Drivers with no success - when installing the screen flickers constantly and does not return to showing the setup completing. I try restarting the computer by holding down the power button (that's my only option) and the flickering screen remains. I boot the computer into safe mode and see that the Generic PnP Monitor, in the monitors section of the device manager, has changed into a Non-PnP monitor with a yellow warning sign next to it. I don't understand the problem and restore my computer to a restore point with no progress made.
I would like to know any information about the release date of the next AMD Radeon HD 7730M driver to be released by Dell so that the above problems can be avoided. Otherwise, if there are any alternative methods of updating the graphics drivers, could you please specify them in detail below.

Failed Target Read Test and Smart Short Self Test
Laptop only 18 months old - ran the PC check up and got a failed Target Read Test and a failed SMART short self test. Surely my DELL computer should last more than 18 months? What can I do?
