Dell 5737 heating problems

The laptop is already 4-5 years old and now the fan seems to work a lot harder. The main use is Chrome with a few tabs open. The cpu temperatures at idle never goes lower than 45 degrees and easily go up to 70 degrees when videos in youtube are loaded.

Except the need of cleaning the fan could it be optimal to change the paste too? Or could something else be wrong?

All drivers are updated.

** RECOMMENDATIONS** Inspiron 15 5567 - "port replicator" or "docking station"

Just purchased three Inspiron 15 5567 laptops (i5 @ 2.5GHz, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD) and one user is asking for a 'docking station' or 'port replicator' so he has a single connection to disconnect when he needs to move the laptop.

Presently, he has connected an HDMI monitor, the GB network connection, and three USB connections, which pretty much "maxxes him out" as regards external devices, and lends to his "confusion factor" when he needs to travel with the laptop.

As a relative 'novice' with a laptop (he previously had an OLD Optiplex GX280 Pentium-4 desktop), he is 'uncertain' about connections to externals so I suggested the 'dock' or 'port replicator' to address this.

Now I need help in determining what is "best" for this use: the Dell D3100 USB 3.0 dock or something different(?).  Unfortunately, I've read a few 'disheartening' reviews in regard to the D3100, but what might be a viable alternative? (bearing in mind that this has to be 'brain dead simple' for this user..)

So... Can anyone suggest alternatives, or give an 'unbiased' assessment of the D3100 dock station..?

Inspiron 17 7000 (7778/7779) power-connector d=4.4mm, not d=7.3mm

Hello,

After I fell from my mountain-bike in 2007 I can't use my hands anymore. Luckily I use only Dell laptops and till now Dell used always the same laptop power connector. So my friends build an adapter on my electric wheelchair. So far, so good.

This year my good old XPS 17 had to be renew after 6 years of work. I wanted to try touch-screen and bought the Inspiron 17 7000 (7778/7779). Great laptop but I can't use the power cord on my wheelchair; the old 19,6V 7.3mm-connector is to big. After 3 hours the battery is empty or I am bound the whole day to the wall with a power cable :(

I have 10x adapters with the 7.3mm-connector in my house so I can charge everywhere without to take my adapter with me. Now they are obsolete.

On internet it's difficult to select the right connector. Does anyone know how to call the 4.4mm-connector; slimeline-? ultrabook-connector?

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I could make a 7.3-to-4.4-adaptor-cable. I could make it my self by taking the contra-connector from my old XPS laptop but the I need a new 4.4mm-connector...but how do I now that I order the right connector?

Thanks for your reply!

XPS M1330 laptop keyboard bottom row +enter, spacebar, not working

M1330 Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. 4GB RAM, Corsair XTi 240GB SSD, BIOS A14, Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 @ 2.6 Ghz. Nvidia 8400M GS integral GPU with Copper shim mod.

This started when I had to remove the original NK750 keyboard to replace the LED/LCD screen.
Initially, when I re-booted, the following keys were inoperative:
B, N, /, spacebar, rightALT, left arrow, down arrow, right arrow.
Later, when the different keyboards were tried, the following additional keys became inoperative:
ZXCVM,.
Presently the entire bottom row of keys, z through m, ,./ spacebar, rightAlt, rightCtrl, left arrow, right arrow, down arrow, enter keys are not working. I am thinking that this is a hardware problem and the motherboard will need to be replaced to fix a bad connection where the keyboard ribbon mates with the fold down latch.

The following troubleshooting efforts have been tried but the laptop keyboard problem persists:

A new generic un-branded keyboard was purchased, but it produced the same dead key results as my original keyboard.

A new Dell JM629 Black keyboard was purchased, but it produced the same exact dead key results as my original NK750 and the generic un-branded keyboard.

An external USB keyboard functions normally.

On screen keyboard functions normally.

Ease of access center sticky keys, toggle keys, filter keys, shortcuts were verified as off/unchecked.

Keyboard test using the Dell Utilities disc verified that the keys in my above list are not working.

Device manager shows “This device is working properly.”

OS upgraded from Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.
Keyboard driver updated to 6.1.7601.17514, no change.
Uninstalling the keyboard and letting Windows reinstall the keyboard, no change.

So, 3 keyboards exhibit the same dead keys.
Looking at the keyboard ribbon attach point through an 8x magnifying glass, I see no obvious bent pins or foreign objects.

I think I have eliminated all software issues, so my problem is probably hardware related. Is there anything else to try before ordering a new motherboard?

Dell Inspiron 13 5368 Touchscreen in Windows 8.1?

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I am new to these forums.

I want to use Windows 8.1 as my main operating system on my Dell Inspiron 13 5368 laptop. Windows 8.1 installs just fine, and the drivers are all there, but I cannot get the touchscreen to work. When I go into the System control panel, it says that "No Pen or Touch input is available for this Display". The touchscreen works just fine on Windows 10, but I cannot use Windows 10 due to my software not supporting it. Plus, I have a Win 8.1 Pro license, and I would like to use it.

There don't seem to be any drivers for the touchscreen, so I am a bit lost. Is there a way to get the touchscreen working, or am I forced to go the Linux route? Thanks!

Can I Upgrade my dedicated GPU?

Hi. I have a Dell Latitude E6430 with intel i7-3540M, 8GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics 4000 as integrated graphics.

The laptop also has an NVIDIA NVS 5200M graphic card with 1GB dedicated VRAM.

I was wondering if I'm able upgrade the Nvidia gpu? I've read that laptops with intgrated graphic cards cant be upgraded but since this laptop has a dedicated gpu (another card, I guess?) Can I upgrade the Nvidia card lets say to a 2 GB card? Also would it be convinient, I mean would it be able to handle it, temperature wise, etc.

Thanks for reading and sorry for bad english.

DELL Inspiron 5567 MCE Errors On Boot (Linux Kernel)

Hello...

This issue has been already escalated throughout the web in the past few months, but no solution is found, and there is no word from DELL on fixing or even trying to fix this.

The issue is (and judging by reports it affects mostly DELL laptops with Intel chipsets), that all of a sudden, few months back, my laptop (Inspiron 5567 with Linux Fedora 25) started reporting MCE hardware errors on boot. Everyone's first guess would be that maybe there are a hardware errors indeed, something wrong with some components, but this is not the case. These are fake MCE errors that started affecting a lot of people all of a sudden in the same timeframe. Laptop boots and works perfectly fine after that, but simply it makes your eyes bleed seeing these errors every day, turning your laptop on in front of your coleagues, friends, etc...

This is the report that pops up on boot:

[ 0.078741] mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check: 0 Bank 6: ee20000000
40110a
[ 0.078745] mce: [Hardware Error]: TSC 0 ADDR fef1ce80 MISC 43880014086
[ 0.078749] mce: [Hardware Error]: PROCESSOR 0:806e9 TIME 1492078107 SOCKET 0
APIC 0 microcode 4e
[ 0.078751] mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check: 0 Bank 7: ee20000000
40110a
[ 0.078753] mce: [Hardware Error]: TSC 0 ADDR fef1ce40 MISC 7880014086
[ 0.078755] mce: [Hardware Error]: PROCESSOR 0:806e9 TIME 1492078107 SOCKET 0
APIC 0 microcode 4e

Like I said there are reports all over the web about these MCE errors, and there was this discussion on Google+ where this guy from Dell, Mario Limonciello, said that this is neither hardware error, nor problem on Linux kernel side, but most likely a problem with device firmware, never coming to conclusion to when or will this ever be fixed.

Now my question is, is anybody at DELL even looking into this? People think of DELL as a very Linux-friendly oriented company, and a lot, like really a lot of people are using Linux on their DELL machines. It would be good then to act like that, not ignoring issues like this, and it's been months since this started happening.

Dell XPS 15 coil whine, and wifi killer card issues.

Hi,

Recently I bought the Dell XPS 15 9560 and has given me a lot of issues with the wifi and coil whine. The issue with the wifi is that, when I connect with my network, all the machines on that network are disconnected, en the machine itself can not connect to internet. The coil whine, the sound is so loud that it is not possible to enjoy the machine, the machine starts making a lot of sound when I fire up a simple process.

After encountering these issues I contacted Dell Service, and I could return the laptop and get a refund. Thanks for the great service Dell, seriously! But I really want this laptop, so when I get my refund I want to order the laptop again. But my question is, what are the chances that I get a laptop with the same issues again?

Thanks in advance!

My Dell XPS 17-L702X is no longer booting. I get Error 0xc00000e9 when I try to boot. It has been upgraded from the pre-installed Windows 7 Premium to Windows 10. When I tried the Windows 10 system reset it got as far as about 5% then abandoned itself.

Hello,

I have problem with connecting my Dell XPS 15 with my working station.

I have TB Dock and connected on it 2 monitors, Ethernet cable, USB mouse and keyboard. When I finish work, I just unplug TB and carry laptop with me. When I get back, and connect TB port again, laptop doesn't see my USB devices ( mouse and keyboard) and does't see my cable Ethernet connection.

Am I missing some software maybe or something? It's really inconvenient to restart laptop every time I connect it to TB Dock

Right side USB port not working

I have a Inspiron 15 7569 running Windows 10, the right side USB port doesn't seem to be working properly. I have updated all the drivers, and also Windows to the latest. When I plug in my wireless mouse or any USB flash drive it works for 2 seconds and then disconnects them. On the other hand, my WIRED mouse works perfectly in that same USB port. Any ideas?

Thanks, Buy1

Latitude 7559 no boot

I have had this machine for a couple months. Last week it started bugchecking with DPC watchdog fimeout and driver power state failure bugchecks. This happened one minute after any boot. The system was unusable so I ran the windows recovery including deleting all files and application. This recovery also failed (dialog stating installation had failed, no reason was specified). I subsequently created new install media using the Microsoft media creation tool. This installation succeeded, then required a reboot due to an (auitomatic) driver installation. This resulted in the machine booting into a black screen.

It is a 7559 with a single 8gb module, 1tb SSHD, 4k screen, NVidia GPU, FW 1.2.1, intel 1x1 wifi/bt (all stock)

Any ideas on how to unbrick the machine?

No bootable devices found?

Hi so yesterday my computer ran out of batteries when i was asleep. When i woke up i plugged in my charger. When the lapto was charged i turn it on immediately. My laptop (Dell Inspiron 13 5000) runs the support assist program, the program scans my computer for any issues, and there was none. So i clicked the button that says shutdown. My computer shut down, but when turn it on again, the support assist said that there was "no bootable devices found" and the only option left was to shut the laptop down again. Now when i turn it on it's always like that and i really don't know what to do... please help?

Black screen Bios

Hi!

I recently got a Dell precision m4800 Running Windows 7.

Everything works great and Windows 7 runs smoothly.

But the problem Is when i start my laptop the Dell logo doesn't appear.

I can open the one-time boot menu and i tried to open the bios, but i end up with a black screen.

I tried to connect the laptop to my tv with vga, and tested if I could open the bios like that.

Strangly enough it opens the bios on my laptop screen and not on the tv...

I already tried to update my Bios, but that didn't work.

Hopefully Someone can find a solution!

Latitude e6220&6230 ideal CPU temperature

$

Hi!

I'm using a second-hand Latitude e6220 (i5-2520m) and a 6230. (i5-3340m)

With Speccy, the average CPU temperature is 70C for the 6220 and 50C for the 6230.

Are these temps ok? What are the ideal temperatures?

Thanks,
