Dell Inspiron 14 5000 Power Button Failures
Judging from the number of complaints posted on the internet and the availability of replacement power button circuit boards from many sources including Amazon, the problems with the failure of this button seems to be a common occurrence. This post is intended to help those who may be experiencing this problem.
The root of the problem is the breaking of the small tip, about the size of a 72pt period, on the actual button. Figure 1 shows the power button without the tip and Figure 2 shows the replacement circuit board with the tip intact.
Figure 1 Showing button without tip
Figure 2 Showing button with tip
Even though the tip is small the problem is that without the tip extending into the recess in the bottom of the rubberized button activator, see Figure 3, the button cannot be pressed and the button instead bottoms out on the ridge.

2> Does it comes with Optimus card? If yes, can you disable Optimus switching feature from BIOS?
Thanks

Anybody having trouble with an XPS 15 9650, where sometimes it won't boot?
Problem: Press power button, power-button lights, but *nothing* else happens (nothing on screen). Later, after several tries (maybe an hour later), it works again. Does not matter if power adapter is plugged-in.
Config: Standard LCD (not touch), i7, 256Gb SSD, 8Gb RAM. All latest BIOS/drivers as-of 5/11/2017.
Hei.
I've just made a fresh installation of 64 bit Windows 7 on my 14z (couldn't restore to factory settings because of "upgrade" to Windows 10 being installed for too long).
I've downloaded all drivers from Dell site by service tag and installed them.
Unfortunately I have a bunch of components not working because of drivers not being digitally signed according to the Windows (code 52).
Those are:
Dell wireless 1703 Bluetooth
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz)
PCI Simple Communication contriollers
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Intel Display Audio
Atheros Bluetooth Bus
Any Idea how can I get those to work properly?
Best regards,
Tomasz.

Hi everybody,
my warranty expired in January and since then i had only problems. The most recent is that my Microphone doesn't work depending on the angle of the laptop screen! I'm guessing that some contact or cable is broken. Does anybody have an idea how to fix it / whats the best way to access the damaged cable?
Thanks in advance!
Most expensive laptop i ever had, worst build quality i ever had, most problems i ever had. I am very disappointed in Dell.
I attempted to update the BIOS on my Inspiron 5565 (AMD-A10 9600P) from .1.0.5 to v1.0.8 using the 'BIOS flash update' with the BIOS update file downloaded (and md5 hash verified on a usb key) from the drivers download page:
http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=C52F8
I followed the instructions on this support page:
to copy the BIOS update file to the USB but when I find and select the file in the 'BIOS flash update' function it reads the USB key (usb key read/write light flashing) but prompts with 'Invalid file!'. I have not renamed the file at all and I also tried to update to the other downloadable BIOS update file, v1.0.6 but get the same error message 'Invalid File!'
Reason for trying to update via the BIOS update feature is that I have a blank hard drive and I'm having trouble loading Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (but seem to have no issue with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) so trying to update the BIOS as first troubleshooting elimination step.
Any tips or suggestions most appreciated.
hello, this is my first post on these web forums, I hope I'm posting this in the right place and also am hoping to get some answers/help !
I own the Dell XPS-13 9350, specs are as follows:
Dell XPS-13
color is silver;
16GB Ram/Internal Memory
512GB SSD NVMe THNSN5512GPUK NV
QHD+ Infinity Edge Display (with touch-screen)
Intel Core i7-6560U Processor
Intel Iris 540 Graphics
I've owned this computer since March of this year, and I am still fairly new to it and its usage. I am in the beginning of my journey into the computer/laptop world of understanding, rebuilding, and upgrading, and there are a few things I would like some help with to better understand myself about this device, and I hope someone can help me out with these questions so that I might better understand what I am not only doing, but dealing with!
now I have the 512GB SSD with this XPS 13, I have been trying to determine which SSD I have as I've read online that there are many different models and makes, and some of which work faster when it comes to read/write speeds (I'm not even sure exactly what that refers to yet, like transferring data from USB drives to and from my laptop when something's plugged in? faster load times for apps and games? idk) - but the only thing I can find through system settings and device manager are:
in device manager - under "disk drives", I've found this - THNSN5512GPUK NV. Does this indicate what brand of SSD I have? I know there is a huge debate over Samsung, Toshiba, and one other company who manufacture these SSD's and some work better at read/write speeds than others. I am trying to determine which brand I have, and if its a good one - or if I should upgrade that (something I am willing to do down the road if I find useful)
another thing is, I don't know which drivers I need to update, and for what reasons, I've tried visiting dells support website to auto-detect, but am having some fairly small issues with that, I'm afraid I may have already installed some driver updates and its still saying I can update them again, is that safe to do? I keep receiving a notification saying I need to update my intel graphics driver, when I have already upgraded that driver online, it keeps popping up like 9-10 times a day, how can I fix this and how can I determine which drivers I need to update? my battery life seems shorter then specified, I fully charge the laptop, and let it drain all the way down before I recharge, and I always unplug when fully charged, I wont let it sit plugged in over night and I always shut my laptop down when I'm done using it, still I seem to only get a portion of what I read I am supposed to get in the battery icon/indicator in the task bar (i.e.= right now I'm at a 72% charge, and it says I have 4 hours 34 minutes remaining) yet I only get a portion of that battery time when all I am doing is web surfing, and occasional(sometimes more than occasional, like the whole time I'm on YouTube but in-between I google something, but nothing else) - I keep my screen brightness relatively low, usually between 25-30% - I read somewhere online I should be getting like 7-8 hours at 75% brightness when all I'm doing is web surfing and YouTube, but it seems like I'm getting a whole *** of a lot less, maybe I'm wrong somewhere here, I'm not 100% sure but it just feels like something doesn't add up for me. I am not on the FHD 1080p version of this laptop, and I understand that the QHD+ (near 4K?) version gets less battery life, but is it supposed to be as what I've described here?
I Appreciate your time in reading this, and whomever reply's to this I really do appreciate your help and advice, thank you guys so very much in advance! looking forward to hearing back from you guys!
I wondered what happened to that battery recall solution that dell had. I wondered if there was an admin in the CompuTrace system that forced the limit of the battery to 1 minute on purpose. It goes for the same concept as LoJack. There were rumors that LoJack for cars can limit the amount of gas it can use. I just say this because Lithium Ion batteries do not really go bad that much. (Did you know that the great CIA created that technology back in the 1960s)
I just think that the battery's serial number changes and it cannot be altered again through the remote CompuTrace service. I used to have a CompuTrace admin account and I know a little bit of it but I am not employed at that corporation any more. I know that a person can look up what software is being used on the computer and I know that it can be called it as stolen using the system, but I think someone can probably force a battery limit on it so to bypass that a person would just have to switch it out because the serial numbers do not match up to the original call in.
What do you guys think?
Hello. Just received my 7579. It came with a 256GB SSD. I was told prior to purchase I would be able to add another HDD. I have opened up the laptop and I see a label on the MB as "HDD2". The SSD is labeled as "SSD1". There is also a small area next to the SSD, but I am not sure a 2.5" HDD would fit. In one of the images youll see inside my red square, where I assume the HDD would go, there is a long piece of plastic that looks like it would prevent a HDD from fitting, would I need to remove this? How? My question is, am I able to add an HDD? I have included 3 pictures to show what I am describing. The connection labeled as "HDD1" doesnt look like its a "completed" connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Brand new XPS 13 here. Any suggestions on cleaning the keys? I spilled my Pepsi the other day, and only a couple drops got on the computer. I thought I didn't get any on the keyboard, but I was obviously wrong as I have a few keys that are physically sticking which makes typing awkward given the limited travel these keys already have. I'd rather not take these keys off as they look pretty complicated.
Any other klutzes out there that have experience with this?
Hi,
I recently purchased an Inspiron 15 7567 gaming laptop from Dell and have encountered a few issues.
Computer Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700HQ Kabylake
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Memory: 8GB (1x) DDR4
Storage: 1TB HDD + 128 GB SSD
Problem:
First, I press Windows' TaskView and it is laggy. Another one, I am watching YouTube while I am coding. A YouTube video is intermittent freezing. I found that System.exe was high CPU usage when it was freezing.
I have tried to re-install Windows, BIOS update, Intel HID Event Filter Driver, NVIDIA driver, Intel Graphic Driver, and it is not fixed.
What should I do?
Thank you all for you help in solving this issue!
After upgrading my Inspiron 5748 laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I have 3 entries in the Device Manager listed as "Unknown Device". I've tried deleting them, letting the system "discover" them, & installing the driver(s) but to no avail.
I've attached a synopsis of my system & the error messages. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone had issues with the BIOS 1.2.25 update with the XPS 15? It "bricked" my laptop, although as it turns out, all it did was orphan/remove the Windows Boot option from the BIOS. Adding it back in and moving it to first in the boot list fixed the issue (although I wasted 3 hours on the phone with Dell "Premium" Support, and they never mentioned this as an option).
My other question is whether there should be any arguments following the UEFI \efi\boot\bootx64.efi file in the BIOS, or if only that is needed as the argument in the BIOS? I do not have a reference point (of course) and searching on-line only found that file for the UEFI boot, but no additional arguments. The machine is running Windows 10 Pro.
Thanks,
Mark
