Dell XPS 12 9250 Sim Card slot

Greetings

I bought dell xps 12 9250 Signature edition from Microsoft Store. I opened the slot for Micro SD and Sim Card. I have the Micro SD slot empty and ready to use, but the Sim Card looks blocked or covered, so I don't know if that's okay or maybe the device I have doesn't support the Sim Card, if not what can I do?

Dell Latitude E5440 and 50hz on Samsung U28E590D 2048 x 1152 (Intel 4400) Win 7

Hi,

Would be grateful if anyone can help with the following problem. I have a Samsung U28E590D 4K monitor and at 2048 x 1152 it will only run at 30hz under Windows 7 (both DP and HDMI) on the E5540. I have installed the latest Dell Intel 4400 drivers(will not allow non dell) and the latest monitor driver. Both the Windows resolution form and the Intel control panel only provide 29 and 30 hz options.

I know the video card should be able to drive this as it just works on another LG 34UC98W monitor at a higher res of 3440 x 1440 at 50hz.

In the Intel control panel -> advanced IT says the monitor does not support advanced settings.

So by running CustomModeApp, it shows nothing in the dropdown for the monitor when the U28E590D is connected as I was hoping I could enter the paramters for 2048 x 1152 @60 hz here.

Any pointers would be appreciated!

XPS 12 not booting even from USB

I have an XPS 12, that suddenly loop in the boot process, also in the windows repair process. I can only see the circles looping...

I prepared a USB boot with the latest windows, using all kind of combinations, GPT, MBR, with FAT32, NTFS. I also used RUFUS with the three available option.

I prepared a windows DVD, and connect it through external USB drive...

I prepared a win PE version, which I used to use it for fast imaging...

I tried all combination of boot options, UEFI and legacy, by removing secure boot...

None of them succeeded. in all cases, it took few seconds like trying to boot from external usb, then go back to the same loop of windows circles boot process.

I just wanted my files, knowing that there is no detachable SSD.

for information, I tried many of the usb I prepared with Microsoft surface, which also used UEFI, and they work... but not on XPS 12.

any idea???

Precision 7710 UEFI Bios and pre-boot does not detect second SSD (NVMe PM951) can't install Windows on it for dual boot

I have a new Precision 7710 with a 2.5 inch 1GB SATA SSD (system boot=Disk0) and a 1GB NVMe PM951 SSD.

I have been attempting to install Windows Server 2012R2 on the second, M.2 SSD (Disk1) into a GPT, NTFS partition.

Since this system has no DVD, I made a bootable UEFI thumb drive with the contents of the .iso installation for Server 2012R2.

The thumb drive boots OK and I can begin installation, but when it comes to choosing the target for installation, the M.2 SSD is not visible in setup.

The M.2 drive is clearly visible inside Windows 10 Pro as the D: drive.

So...I mounted the .iso setup file in Windows 10 and ran setup.exe. The install began and could see the target M.2 drive, and began loading files on the second SSD. It then attempted the first of several restarts that come with this process with the new Server 2012 R2 environment.

It sucessfully modified the Windows Boot Manager before the restart, then restarted, and the setup program gave an error because it could not find the target partition on the second SSD.

The setup environment then modified the Boot Manager to "Windows Setup Rollback" and proceeded to enter an infinite loop, attempting to delete files from the unreachable M.2 drive. I manually choose Windows 10 on the boot menu, and once booted changed Windows 10 back to the default OS.

I've tried several things (turning off Secure boot, changing from UEFI to legacy bios--it won't boot at all that way) , but I can't get that second disk to be visible in the bios or in the preboot environment.

The only place I can access the second SSD is if Windows 10 is already running.

I am trying to replicate a development machine (M6600 that Dell won't repair) that had 3 bootable SSD's.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi,  a friend gave me a Dell Latitude E6520 laptop and i have noticed that when i plug it into the charging port it does some weird things.  i am not sure if this is normal but when i plug it into the port it starts charging then stops then starts again.  when i put the laptop into sleep mode it stops charging then starts again and the same when i wake it up.  i have a feeling it has something to do with the software in windows that allows it to charge faster but i am not sure.  can someone please confirm if this is normal?  the laptop charges perfectly fine but it is just different from other dell laptops.

Dell Inspiron Gaming i5577 Restarts Randomly

Hi,

So I just got this laptop few days ago.

The problem: It restarts randomly, no blue screen, no error messages. It just goes into the Restarting process, including the screen where it says "Restarting". Basically kicking me out while I was writing documents, editing images, nothing system intensive. I have played the Witcher 3 for hours and it was fine.

This is very troublesome since it's very unreliable.

  • It is not Windows Update because WU asks you beforehand.and tells you after reboot that the system has been restarted,
  • I do not think it's the temperature because I have a monitoring software that says it's cool and a cooling pad as well.

What I did: (Note: I already turned off Automatic restart in System before those restarts happened).:

  • Checked Event Viewer nothing special, checked Reliability History, nothing special.
  • Did stress test using Dell F12 comprehensive tests, Dell Assistant tests, memtest86, Prime95, Unengine Benchmark. Can't seem to replicate it.
  • Ran File System Checker, HDD bad sector scan, etc.
  • Finally Re-Imaged the PC using the provided Dell Tool and Image for this laptop. And still it's doing it...randomly.

Is there a program that closely monitors Windows 10 and actually tells you what's causing the reboot? It seems Windows 10 in consciously doing this since it's actually Restarting the Laptop normally so it should have appended the reason why it's Restarting, somewhere, it's not a power failure where it just shuts down abruptly.

Thanks!

I got my Inspiron 15 5577 Gaming yesterday. The laptop randomly freezes for 1 - 2 sec when I am browsing.

I use Google Chrome and Opera. How can I fix it?

Also, when I check event viewer, I saw more error log from Dell softwares. Is it normal? Do you think I remove these softwares?

Changed BIOS, now laptop does not even show Dell logo at startup.

Hey everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5559 with windows 10 installed, and I wanted to create a dual boot by installing ubuntu. Prior to installation of Ubuntu, I wanted to test what would happen if I disabled the "secure" boot option in my BIOS and changed the boot loader from UEFI to Legacy. I changed this, saved as custom user and restarted.

Result: my laptop is powered on, but only gives a black screen and not even the initial Dell logo pops up. The battery light is blinking in this sequence: 2x orange and 7x white light.

I can't enter BIOS (I tried bashing many buttons).

If I insert a bootable USB stick (installer of Ubuntu in my case), after 2 loud beeps it will boot from this USB, but I'm still unable to get into BIOS or select boot options.

I tried resetting the BIOS by removing the coin battery, and draining power by pressing the power button, but nothing happened.

when I press the "Fn" button while powering on, it results in 3 beeps, then 1 beep, and finally 5 beeps.

Pressing Ctrl + Esc while plugging in the A/C adapter does not help.

Does anyone know how make my laptop boot again, any help would be very much appreciated!

Many thanks in advance.

Arne

Cannot find boot device XPS 13 9350

I upgraded my 9350 SSD to a 960 EVO 500gb. I followed a guide using macrium reflect. After swapping the drives and transferring the data I can't get the new drive to boot. If I leave it on UEFI boot mode it cannot see any drives at all, even when I boot to win10 installation media and look at the available partitions. Doing the same thing in legacy boot mode does enable me to see my drive from the win10 installation media however it still comes up with an error that it cannot find a boot device when I try and boot to windows.

I have tried entering into command prompt to repair the MBR but that hasn't changed anything. I think I need to get a boot record on here that matches what the XPS is expecting to get windows to launch I'm just not sure how.

Anyone had these issues changing out their SSD? Is there a solution for this?

Widely reported issue happening to my Inspiron 5547 outside of my warranty period. I'm scared of electrical shock since the ON/OFF button is so close to the issue! Is it normal that such a thing happen to a laptop these days? Also, would you not expect Dell to be still responsible for fixing it? its clearly bad design. Anybody have a piece of advise to give me?

Thanks in advance.

Alienware 13 SAMSUNG SSD PM851 M.2 2280 256GB secure erase" frozen drive " message

$

Dear Community .

I am planning to sell and upgrade my Alienware to a newer model .

I want to perform a secure erase .

I have tried Samsung magician 4.9 ( 5.0 doesn't support the SSD)

I have tried parted magic .

I am able to create the boot USB for both tools but on each occasion I get " Drive Frozen state " message .

I have researched for hours and all I see is cycle the power on the disc by unplugging the power and replacing it .

My questions are: 1a how do I power cycle on a Samsung SSD PM851 M.2  2280 as I don't see any power cable/lead  1b is there another way to unfreeze/unlock the drive . I DO NOT want to pull the whole module out and push it back in and end up with a dead piece of electronics .

2 Is there another way for me to secure erase and do I need to do this at all ,  would a format and clean installation of windows ( halting at the country /language stage and powering down for the new buyer ) be secure enough ?

To be honest I have fallen behind on HDD technology and couldn't believe the SSD was only a PCB  with 4 chips . when I opened the cover I was expecting to see a 2.5 drive .

Thanks
