BIOS Bug in XPS 13 9365 - Stall of 5 minutes in Dell logo in AHCI mode

0
0

Hi,

When changing the SATA drive setting from RAID to AHCI, and disabling the "Secure boot" option in the BIOS (both actions are needed to install Ubuntu), the booting process gets stuck in the Dell logo for a long time, around 5 minutes, before it makes any progress. Even trying to enter the BIOS again to change those settings makes me have to wait that long.

Also, when booting when those settings on and entering the BIOS, the whole user interface of the BIOS menu, even just moving the mouse cursor around, is extremely slow. Clicking on a menu option on the BIOS makes the screen refresh to the next screen with a very slow transition of about 3 seconds.

I'm have upgraded to the latest BIOS firmware as of April 8, 2017 (Version 01.00.10, 3/9/2017). This bug is currently preventing me from setting up a dual-boot mode with Windows 10 + Ubuntu, which makes the system not usable for my specific use cases. I'd really appreciate if these issues could be resolved soon.

Thank you all in advance.

Can't install Wistron 3.0 on Dell Inspiron N5110

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop and for a few years I haven't been able to get my USB 3.0 ports to work. I believe I might have messed up the driver installations when I first got the laptop.

I got a new hard drive lately and decided to test my USB 3.0 ports before installing Windows 7 because I will really need them for work soon, so I tried them on Windows 8.1. They worked automatically without having to install any driver (I think 8.1 has its own 3.0 pilots?)

So I formatted my hard drive and installed my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits. I downloaded all the pilots from this page (www.dell.com/.../drivers) in another computer and placed them on a flash drive.

After installing Windows 7 and booting for the first time, I tried my best to follow the order explained here: www.dell.com/.../how-to-reinstall-drivers-in-the-correct-order

I started with Dell System Software Utility (DSS_UTIL_WIN_R282538)

Then Intel Management Engine Interface Driver (R292194)

Then Intel HM67 Express Chipset Family Driver (R292253)

Then Wistron USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (R309746)

And after each driver installation, I would reboot my laptop. But when installing the Wistron driver, the R309746 file extracted itself and then nothing happened. So I went to the C:\dell\drivers\R309746 folder and tried to launch "setup.exe" again from there, with admin rights, I received the window of "This program might now have installed correctly" and I had two options, "Reinstall using recommended settings" or "this program installed correctly".

When I pick "this program installed correctly", nothing happens and my USB 3.0 don't work. When I pick the other option, nothing happens too.

I tried this 3 times. Each time I format the hard drive again and I reinstall Windows and I reinstall the drivers, trying different orders sometimes, but to no avail. My usb 3.0 ports are still not working.

Can anyone please help me? Did I do something wrong? Did I mess up the order of the installation of the drivers? What should I do at this point? I'm really getting desperate since all these trials have already cost me almost 2 days.

XPS 13 - 9360 : Creaking Frame (5 months old)

Hi,

At first I thought it was the hinges, but now, I think otherwise. The frame is creaking pretty loudly when I move the laptop on my lap. If I lay my fingers underneath, I can occasionally feel a light pop - or at least a hint of mouvement.

Is that type of stuff covered in the warranty? The computer is definitely not old. My original purchase was in October 2016, but I had it replaced in November 2016. We are talking of a 5 months old expensive laptop creaking like a 5 year old cheap Acer -_-. The laptop has been taken care of. It rarely leaves the house, it is handled with care and it has a fluffy dell sleeve to sleep in.

Also, this system has coil whine - I'm waiting for the revision to be out to get it fixed. Apparently, it is there, simply not available for on-site repairs yet. Any news of this?

*I'll make a video and link it later today. I'll use that when dealing with the technical support.

Thanks

Dell E6530 : Touchpad Drivers + Nvidia Card

Hello,

(Sorry for my English)

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop. Unfortunately, I have a problem with the Driver for the TouchPad. And this problem is present whether it is an installation via Windows Update (Windows 10) or manually with the driver provided on the Dell site (Input_Driver_YXX3D_WN32_10.1207.101.109_A03.exe).

Once installed, every time I turn on my PC, a box is directly displayed on my desktop with the following message:

"You must have administrator rights to delete this file." I have the choice between: "Confirm", "Ignore" or "Cancel" with a checkbox "Do this for all elements".

I have that every time I start, no matter what I do. I do not understand why because I do not even request the deletion of these files. Not only to bother me every time I start the PC, it is impossible after me to run the scroll with the middle click.

Here is the list of all the files he wants me to delete:

- Apoint.dll

- Apinfo.dll

- ApInst.dll

- ApMouCpl.dll

- ApMsgFwd.exe

- ApntEx.exe

- ApSearch.dll

- ApTaskLink.xml

- Dell.Framework.Library.dll

- DellTouchpad.exe

- DellPad.exe

- Elprop.dll

- EzAuto.dll

- hidfind.exe

- HidMonitorSvc.exe

- Uninstop.exe

- Data folder

The most disturbing thing about this is that on my other laptop Dell Latitude E6510, I have no worries, it is directly installed via Windows Update and it works directly. Why do I have problems with the E6530 and not the E6510?

What should I do to remedy this problem?

I also have a question about my graphics card. I have in my Dell E6530 an Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics card and a Nvidia NVS 5200M. Only the Intel HD 3000 takes over the Nvidia. Is it possible to reverse this and that the NVS 5200M is taken into account by the screen and not the Intel HD 3000? Again, on my Dell E6510, I do not have this worry, it's directly the NVS 3100M which is not taken into account the built-in graphics. Why? I do not know...

In advance, I thank you for the help you can bring me.

14r 5420 Can a dead battery cause it to not boot?

0
0

I have a older 14r 5420 that i would like to get working for my folks. It was sitting in storage for a year not used. the last owner said the battery was not able to hold much of a charge (that was a year ago), if any, and that the keyboard was broken last time he used it. (which is the reason he stopped using it)

I plugged it in, went through the process of burning off the "flea power" or what ever it is. But the thing will not power on. Its like no power is getting to the motherboard at all. No beeps or lights outside of the green light on a power bar. Can a fried or dead battery cause this? its been plugged in for about 2 hours as i write this. I can replace the keyboard if i can get it working. But i don't want to go to the expense, if not.

Is there a way to test it? make sure the battery is getting enough power? test to see if its outputting enough power? Is the laptop normally able to boot without the battery in? (im thinking not)

Any help would be great!

Newly purchased XPS 15 cannot detect Service Tag

Hi all,

I'm from Australia and two weeks ago I bought a XPS 15 9560 with the local retailer JB Hi-Fi. I registered the product on the day (31 Mar) but the Support Website (AU) still couldnt recognise my Service tag or Express service code. Also under warranty in Support, it says "No information available", but shows "Your device was registered on xxxxx".

Any idea apart from calling the tech support?

Thanks all,

Dell Power manager Lite battery discharge issue -Dell vostro 5568

I have done the custom settings for battery from dell power management. I have set that the battery should start charging when it is at 50% and stop charging at 80%. When the battery has charged 80%.It has stopped charging. But the discharging of the battery is not happening itself. I have to remove the ac power so that the laptop should start using battery instead of ac power. The battery should self discharge when it reaches 80% and start charging when it reaches 50%. which is not happening currently. Can any suggest any solution.

Instability and warranty issues with a dell device

Dears,

I have purchased a dell inspiron 3558
from Egypt on October 1st 2016 with a warranty period of 11 months which means that the warranty should end on September 1st  2017 while on the warranty page of that product it says that it has already ended. So please i need clarification about this.
another thing is the device has shown some instability behavior issuing some beep codes which turned out to be a some kind of failure of the motherboard so i handed the device to the warranty agency two weeks ago , now they tell me that they have reset the motherboard !! and every thing is ok but i requested furthermore check.
so please  i need to know if the taken action is enough for my problem or they should replace the whole motherboard ?
I am waiting for a response as soon as possible please .
Regards.

XPS 15 9560 POWER throttles (no thermal throttling)

Is it normal that when both cpu and discrete gpu of this laptop are 100% used (not benchmarking, just normal usage of software that needs to) there is some kind of POWER throttling on the cpu?

Power Limit 1 goes from 45w to 20w then back to 45 for about 10 minutes, then goes down to 15w and stays there for an undefined amount of time (even if temps are low at about 75 degrees)

Hi All,

I have an Inspiron 15R 5220. A month ago some keys in my keyboard were not working (b,n, spacebar, movement arrows)

I bought a new keyboard and replaced the old one, but the issue continues. I think it could be a motherboard issue.

Also, I connected an USB keyboard and it works good.

Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help
