Laptop Fan Speed Problem

$

LAPTOP: Dell Inspiron 17r SE

I recently got my laptop repaired because I was getting black screen at boot up. So they changed the motherboard and the problem is now fixed.

But I think there is a problem with the fans of the laptop. My fan speed always goes like this during low performance use:

0rpm, then the laptop heats up, then it goes to 2600 (ish) rpm, when the laptop is cooled down it goes back to 0 rpm. This cycle just continues.

Why aren't the fans running at a steady low (quiet) speed? I rather have this than constantly super quiet and then suddenly loud (2600 rpm is loud for low performance usage in my opinion).

This problem didn't occur before the motherboard change.

Is there a problem or is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additional information: by low performance usage I mean like max of 10% cpu usage.

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?

I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.

So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

Studio 1555 will not charge or run on battery

I have had my Studio 1555 for about four years without any problem. Suddenly last week I found that it will not run on battery.

The battery appears to be about 30% charged.

It runs fine on mains power but when I turn it on it seems to try to charge the battery for a few seconds but then the battery symbol in the system tray stops moving.

If I hover over it the message says it's charging but after three days it appears to have charged only another four or five percent.

If I turn off the mains power the laptop immediately dies. It doesn't even try to run off the battery. I checked the battery charge with the LED's on the battery itself and this seems to confirm the battery to be 30 to 40 % charged!

Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem could be? Is this a failing battery or is there something more serious wrong with my laptop.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Many thanks

Inspiron 15R 5521 reboots when moved

I purchased an Inspiron 15R 5521 earlier this year (May) in the US. Since then, it has randomly rebooted about 11 times. I noticed that the times it's happened, I'm moving and/or tilting it - it does not happen every single time I move it, though. I checked the even viewer and it points to a kernel power issue. Has anyone had this same issue? I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the issue persists.

Ac adaptor

QuickSet problem:

The AC adapter type cannot be determinated. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:

-Ensure the plug in inserted completely for best system operation

-Connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or highter.

I reall don't know how to solve this.

Anyone who know what can I do?

Thanks, have a nice day!

e7240 CONSTANT LOUD NOISE FROM FAN / VENTILATOR TURNING ALL THE TIME

We received 2 brand new E7240s directly from Dell, one for myself and one for my colleague. As soon as I turned it on to build it for my colleague, I noticed the machine was overheating and the fan was making a noise. Dell suggested a BIOS upgrade which didn't change anything. They then changed the heatsink, again this changed nothing and since then they changed the motherboard. My colleague has gone on holiday so I don't know if her issue has been resolved, however, my laptop from day one does not overheat (as obviously as it did for my colleague) BUT THE FAN TURNS ALL THE TIME. So much so that I think the person in the upstairs bedroom is using her hairdryer. Dell replaced the heatsink and the motherboard yesterday, I have done the same BIOS upgrade and the problem is even worse. As soon as I switch the thing on, the ventilator turns all the time making a loud noise. My previous model was the E6500 and I wasn't bothered by any noises it made.

The 7240 makes so much noise that I want to throw it out of the window Super Angry , seriously I am going to switch back to my 5 year old e6500 which is now very slow, I just can't take the constant hair dryer noise from the fan! I am waiting for Dell to get back to me but I don't see what else they can do.

I suspect there is a design problem with newer models, someone with a Latitude 13 Notebook has also mentioned it on the forums, also someone else with an e7240 states "I have noticed the fan running much of the time - it's quiet but you're aware it's spinning.  I am just setting it up though, so the CPU is fairly busy." A person with the e6320 states "And the fan is loud and turns itself on way too often".

Inspiron 15R SE 7520 - Integrated Webcam Problems

Good Morning all!

I have been having problems with the integrated webcam on my Inspiron 15R SE 7520 Windows 7.

If anyone is familiar with Skype, I go to capture a profile picture, the webcam light turns on, it seems to see my face, but when I click "Take Picture" the image turns up White.. But when I send a video clip to someone on Skype as well, It works no problem...

Also if I use chatroullete, it says my webcam is not detected.

I tried going on the "My Downloads" to find the Dell Webcam Central but it does not appear in the Locker List...

Not sure how to approach this situation, and am still trying to find fixes on this board.

Please Help me! Thank you in advanced.

N5110 - Battery Light Flashing Amber, Won't Work Without AC Power

$

I've had my N5110 for a little over a year.  Just recently, the battery light on the laptop began flashing - 4 amber flashes then solid white.  Even though the laptop says the battery is 100%, (plugged in, charging) the computer immediately shuts down if it's removed from AC power.

Since the battery is able to charge and the laptop is not detecting any battery issues when I run Dell Support, I'm not sure what the problem is.  I don't want to buy a new battery if it's not the issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

17R keeps stalling and/or crashing

I've had this laptop since March 2013 and have experienced a long list of issues. The issue of the moment is the habit of the system to hang up, slow down dramatically and to crash unexpectedly. The hang ups and slow downs appear unrelated to what application is running or to anything else I can easily pinpoint. This same set of issues has happened numerous times in the past. I have renewed the OS several times and have reformatted the system and re-installed the OS numerous times. (including all drivers) This usually resolves things for a time, sometimes for a month or more and other times for less than a week. Today, a new wrinkle has appeared: I prefer a mouse to the touchpad and have thus deactivated the touchpad. Today when I attempt to use the right-click function the system doesn't recognize this sequence. I thought it might be the mouse and tried another mouse to no avail. I then activated the touchpad and tried right clicking with the pad key and it was still not recognized. In addition, when I click on an icon to bring up an app, nothing happens. I then go to the main menu, select the application and click to open that app, all to no avail. I then must shut down and reboot and then the system will permit me to open the application. But within minutes, the system once again won't allow me to right click or open another app. This shutting down and rebooting just to open an application or to work is very frustrating! I don't have enough experience/knowledge to know whether all of this is software or hardware related.

System specs:

Windows 8

8GB RAM

1-T hard drive

Installed Software: Office 365 [I had Adobe PS and INDESIGN installed, but have uninstalled them while troubleshooting these issues]

Security:Bit Defender Total Security

I'm not a tech person, so if I've left some vital information out, please ask.

Thank you for any help anyone can offer!

Inspiron 1525 Overheating like anything

$

This has been occurring for over an year. Whenever I play a game(like Counter Strike/Burnout Paradise/CoD4), it overheats to 83-85C(and then promptly switches off). Normal temp hovers around 65C(with normal programs running, like Adobe Reader). When I am not running anything and have just switched the laptop on, temp's around 45-53C.Overheating to 83-85C sometimes occurs even when I am surfing the Internet, while playing music alongside. Again, this is followed by the usual switch off. I don't know what's wrong with this. Any help is appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 1300 No Power/No Post issue

I fear that my motherboard has died on me because no lights come on at all, I have removed the Battery, optical drive, Wifi-card, LCD, HDD, memory, and cpu in that order and tested the power using an ac adapter after each removal. No lights ever came on anywhere. I have a multimeter and tested the battery prongs on the motherboard to see if any power was making it to them but there wasn't any... at least not to any 2 of the 6 prongs. I've tested the ac adapter and I am getting 19.63 volts. I even tested an alternate power adapter... Any suggestions would be great.

Well, I found the problem... I took the motherboard out and was about to sell everything as parts on eBay when I noticed the ac adapter port is broken... anyone know where to get one?

Inspiron Mouse Button LOUD click

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 15.6 inch laptop, bought 2-3 months ago.  The mouse button is EXTREMELY LOUD when i click, and its unbearable, so annoying and loud! It makes his practically unable to use in a quiet settings! I'm really fed up with Dell, since there quality seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper! I've had many Dell Computers before with never any issues that were a red flag. Dell, what do you think?

BUG: Dell Bios Downloads for the Latitude E6510 do not work, even after you've followed all the steps.

Dell Bios Downloads for the Latitude E6510 do not work, even after you've followed all the steps.  The executable file won't execute.  This is true even when ALL UAC permissions are disabled, and even when the BIOS version one is already on, is within the parameters of the desgcription as to what BIOS to download.  Worse, when entering the System Tag, there is no feedback saying that one's BIOS needs updating.

Worse still, it takes HOURS to find all this out, and a good 20 minutes to even sign up for the forum to even alert someone that these problems exist.  I have three user names on Dell now, because each time I have to CREATE a new account, since it won't recognize my stored data from the last time I was here.  Sorry for the weird nickiname, but after many tries to get in, I made up whatever angrily came to mind.   Love Dell machines.  Hate having to deal with the websites.
