Vostro 3560, USB issues after going back to Windows 7 Pro (64)

0
0

All USB ports worked fine with Win10.

Win7 was installed from a USB stick but I had to enable "USB debugging" in BIOS before windows would load.  Even with debugging enabled I could only use one of the USB ports.

Now, with Windows 7 and all drivers and updates, the only USB port that works is the one that the system was installed from.  It also happens to be the only one with the lightning icon beside it.  I just tried disabling the debugging option in BIOS and this port stopped working also.

I have tried multiple USB memory devices and a mouse.  Regardless of the device, the same port always works and none of the others do.  If the mouse is plugged into one of the dead ports during boot, the red light is on at the bottom of the mouse until a few seconds after I see the windows logo appear.

Memory sticks will light up on every port but Windows never recognizes anything being inserted.

No issues appear in the device manager and there are no unrecognized devices.

On a previous setup of this OS, I tried uninstalling all USB related devices from the device manager then scanned for changes.  I hoped this would reset all the drivers and bring the ports back.  Instead, it began loading the drivers, blue screened with a memory dump, then never recovered.

This PC also has an SD card slot that appears to be a USB connected device and it works.

Any help will be appreciated.

Problem with Inspiron 1545

I ran the backup and recovery for the laptop and it said it succeeded. When windows goes to start, a blue screen flashes quickly and it just reboots again. When I run a diagnostics it gives me error code 2000-0146 with the hard drive. It wont let me start in safe mode or anything. Does this mean that the hard drive is just done?

Dell Recovery & Restore

I have a Dell Inspiron 14z 5423. I need to use the Dell Recovery & Restore. I followed all the instructions. I downloaded the "Dell Recovery & Restore for Service Tag B4SZPT1570.72 MB". It won't allow me to extract anything from it, saying all 4 files included are broken. Can anyone help me? I'm at the end of my rope, and patience. I'll apologize ahead of time if I've posted this in the wrong forum.

BSOD (atigmpag/dag.sys) error every time i install the Display Drivers. Please Help.

Hi,

I recently damaged my Studio XPS so started using an old Inspiron n5010 with a cracked screen through an external monitor. Earlier this week i installed Windows 10 on it but every time i installed the Display Driver i ran into the atikmpag/dag.sys error, i fixed it (just renamed the system files) through safe mode, but since the native screen n Fn+F1 wasn't working, i did it by physically disconnecting the monitor (ribbon cable n 2 other connecting the display next to the wireless card) n used the external monitor.

Its that every time i installed the Display Driver i would get the atikmpag/dag error. I haven't connected the native display/monitor n my laptop keeps beeping (though i know reconnecting the display might stop it), could it be that installing the drivers using an external monitor with the native display unplugged is causing this problem??

I even formatted n installed Windows 8.1 today since the hardware didn't have an official driver for Windows 10 but i keep running into the same error every time i install the display driver. i have had to format a couple of times since then n still cant install the display drivers successfully n now i am stuck with the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

When using Driver Talent, AMD's detecting program n few others, all of them suggests installing the ATI Mobility Radeon 5000 Series Driver but i run into the same error every time i do so.

How can i successfully install the drivers?? i can reconnect the native display/monitor is need be.

Please Help.

TB16 HDMI connected monitor goes blank for few seconds every few hours

I just got TB16 to replace  my TB15 and I'm noticing that my Dell W3415U which is connected to my TB16 HDMI port goes blank for few seconds comes back every few hours. Like the video signal suddenly stopped or something. Not sure what's causing it but it's bothering me since it's happening while in middle of my use. TB16 is connected to my XPS 15 9550 running Windows 10 Pro via Thunderbolt 3 port.

If you know how to resolve this I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Help to get rid of CloudReady+Chromium, and get Windows OS.

I'm sorry if I've posted this in the wrong area, or if it's a duplicate.

I have a Dell Inspiron 14z-5423 Laptop. Service Tag is <Deleted due to privacy policy>. It has the Windows 8 sticker on the back, but the Dell site has Windows 10 Home listed as the OS.

I bought this used, and the previous owner installed CloudReady + Chromium OS.

He no longer knows his CloudReady credentials, and he doesn't have the original product key because the Windows was an OEM install.

CloudReady won't allow me to factory reset it, and I don't know if that would help anyway.

I need Windows. I'm also beyond financially challenged, so the cheapest way possible is what I need. But I also can't screw up this machine, because I can't afford another one.

So...can someone tell me what my options are? I don't know what OS this laptop can run. Can it do Win 7? Should I buy Win 8? Can I install a new OS from a usb stick?

I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but definitely not enough about this. I would so greatly appreciate any help I can get. Neverware, the company behind CloudReady isn't interested  in helping me, and I'm just really hoping someone here IS.

Fake AC adapter Y90RR?

I bought an AC adapter from a seller on Rakuten.  The labelling appears correct.  I'll avoid shouting below but the labels are all in capital letters.

Dell Inc. AC/DC Adapter.  Dell P/N: Y90RR. Ref.No.: ADP-330AB D. Model: DA330PM111. Input: 100-240V-4.4A 50/60Hz. Output: 19.vV-16.9A.

CN-OY90RR-48661-31J-1939-A00. Made in China. DP/N 0Y90RR.

Two computers' BIOSes detect it as a 240W AC adapter instead of 330W.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is fake because I've been suckered by fake merchandise on Yahoo Japan, eBay (US), and Ali Express (China), and a colleague was suckered by fake merchandise on Amazon Japan.  This seller on Rakuten is in Japan but so are some of the fakers on Yahoo Japan.  I've sent e-mail to the seller.

Anyway, is this a known problem?  And importantly, did Dell accidentally make any genuine ones with this mistake?

M6500 blackouts, new information and question

0

I've seen several discussions about Precision M6500 blackouts.  The diagnosis seemed to be related to the touchpad and newer manufactures would presumably have a newer touchpad.  For a while my M6500 didn't have any problem so I thought I was safe.  But then it started.

Dell doesn't support Windows 10 on this PC but Microsoft seemed to feel it should work, and for a while it did.  But now, here are the symptoms.

If I put the computer to sleep (not hibernate) and then awaken it, then usually I can use it normally for a duration of around 10 seconds to 1 minute, and then it blacks out.

If I put it in hibernation and then awaken it, then usually I can use it normally, period.  But sometimes after a duration of around 1 minute, it blacks out.

One time it was neither sleeping nor hibernating, but turned off the backlight after 15 minutes of inactivity.  I pressed the keyboard's Shift key, the backlight turned on, I used it normally for about 10 seconds, and then it blacked out.

When blacked out, the hard drive activity LED still flashes, and Windows responds to a ping command, but the keyboard and touchpad are ignored.  I set power settings so that pressing the power button would tell Windows to hibernate, but during the next blackout, the power button was also ignored (until I held it down 4 seconds to tell the BIOS to power off).

I installed TeamViewer.  During the next blackout, Windows responded to ping, but an attempted connection through TeamViewer hanged.  If TeamViewer is not running on the target PC then the client execution tells me that TeamViewer isn't running on the target, but here it hanged.  So Windows really is working partially, but some devices don't work.  If it were an Nvidia driver problem, why would the keyboard and power button be ignored?  So something has problems but I don't think the actual cause is known yet.

I installed BitVise SSH server.  During the next blackout, a connection through BitVise SSH worked.  It brought up a Windows command prompt, displaying on the client machine but executing on the blacked out machine.  I did a dir command and correctly saw my files and folders on the blacked out machine.  I did a shutdown /h command but that hanged.  I did a Ctrl+C and it stopped hanging but still didn't hibernate.  I did another dir command and saw that it was still working.  Eventually I pressed the power button for 4 seconds and started over.

During the next session, running normally without sleeping or hibernating or being inactive for a while, I connected through BitVise SSH again.  I did a dir which worked.  And then I did a shutdown /h just to check that it would work properly.  It did.  The M6500 hibernated.  The BitVise SSH client told me the connection was lost.  After the M6500 finished hibernating, I pressed the power button to wake it up, and it woke up normally.  BitVise connected again, and TeamViewer connected, but that doesn't really matter because I coud use the machine normally after it properly woke from hibernation.

So the blackouts happen when something in Windows causes half its drivers to stop working but the other half are still working.

Does anyone know the real cause?

(By the way in case 240 watts isn't enough I wanted to try a 330 watt AC adapter, but as mentioned in my other thread today, the one I got seems to be a fake.)

Laptop Screen Flickering with Pink & Green Lines ,Even at the Dell logo Screen

Hi

My Laptop is 13 months old Dell I7 5558, i was facing this screen flicker issue previously ,where i got my Laptop Screen replaced by you ,but now I'm facing the same issue .

Previously before replacing i used to have just few flicker, now flicker rate got increased even more & Screen Goes black which is really annoying.

Even at the logo Screen I 'm seeing Green & pink lines

Sometimes nothing appears on the screen just  flicker of Green & pink lines & black Screen After that.
Where i should  to remove my battery  & place it ,to turn on my laptop in this case.

Problem is not related to software, if that was the case flicker should not be at dell logo screen.

But FYI my Graphic Card Drivers are already up to date.

I Guess the problem is at the hinges or with the monitor or maybe related to mother board itself.

when my laptop screen is less than 90 degree i can see few flicker, when it 90 degrees or more than that ,continuous flicker & black screen later as like monitor looses power nothing .

Any Other Information Required let me know.

Alienware 15r permanent battery failure

My battery experienced permenant failure but here is my issues.

I can only use laptop with adapter.  If I unplug the laptop will go dead.

I bought a replacement battery and installed.  I still get a battery permenant failure notice when I boot system.

In bios it says the battery needs to be replaced and is permanently failed.

The battery icon on taskbar says the battery is at 100%.  It also says the battery is plugged in but not charging.

I did some system updates before the problem including the bios.  I tried to install a previous version of bios but can't because it says the battery must be at 10% to do so.

I have tried various fixes on the internet like changing power settings, deleting and reinstalling drivers and trying to reset draining the power.  I have had no luck.

My battery is one month out of warranty but I have a feeling it is not the real issue.

Please help!

Trying to get the laptop to work with the (3) external monitors

Got my Dell Precision 5510 and this dock(below) . The dock is connected via a USB(from dock) to a thunderbolt on the laptop side. I have three external monitors hooked up( 1 HDMI, 1 DP and 1 mini DP). I would love to be able to open the laptop and have it work while the other 3 stay on but the laptop turns on and only two of the monitors stay on when I open the lid. Seems I can only run (3). I've tried all different configuration with no luck. Though maybe if I disconnect the HDMI from the dock and plug in directly to the laptop that would work but no. Any ideas? Thanks.

Boot Time

I have a 7559-5012 with a Samsung Evo SSD in it and 16 GB of RAM. I recently reinstalled my OS since it was being quite volatile and now my startup speed is isn't the same. Prior to a reinstall of the OS, I had only 5 seconds on the splash screen and three seconds after that to login. I know a 8 second boot is all ready fairly quick, but now I have about 15 seconds on the splash screen. I have already disabled GUI boot in order to achieve a faster splash screen but still around 15 seconds of logo prior to OS boot. Anyone got a solution for my symptoms?

Alienware 17 R3 - Ideal Battery Replacement

0

I have a Alienware 17 R3-3758 that I had bought 'bout 2 years ago. Until recently it's told me: "Your batter can no longer provide sufficient power to your system and needs to be replaced."

The SupportAssist program that comes w/Alienware stated that my batter is:

PABAS0241231 (COMPAL | Li-I - Lithum Ion)

I was hoping someone could link me to a site that is legit. I don't know if DELL themselves sell the batteries anymore. Also, is replacing a battery for my PC hard? I've only opened it once to reset my BIOS since it crashed. There is an update to the BIOS (1.3.10) however it won't let me update unless the battery is charged up to 10%; which is why I'm assuming I need to change my battery.

Thanks for you time for reading my problem!

Broken Dell Update prompted for Win10 Restart and bricked my machine

Service Tag <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

I have tried multiple methods to recover and none of them work.

Boot Error message is:  "Inaccessible Boot Device"

Diagnostics all run fine, including disk tests.

TroubleShooting/Fix Startup finds no problems;  it  scanned my entire SSD

Advanced / Startup Settings:  4) Safe Mode also fails.

UEFI Rom Build 4236.8 ... disabling Secure Boot does not help.

Ths laptop was running fine;  all Win10 Pro updates are current.

My preference is to use a Restore Point to back out this Dell update.

I'm guessing this is going to require a USB bootable repair tool of some sort.

I do not have Win10 install media with Dell drivers.

Of course, this machine was the next one in rotation to get a full image backup;

that didn't happen.
