Dell M4800 with battery slice charge overnight only up to 85%

Hi all,

I have a M4800 with dual battery setup.

Both batteries are made in 2016.

When I charge laptop on without working on it, the total capacity of the will only charge up to 85%.

Nevertheless, when I unplug one of the batteries, it doens't matter which one, then the batterie charges up to 100%. When I charge the slice battery with a separated power supply, it also charge up to 95%.

When all batteries are fully charged, then I can see in my battery monitoring software that they are charged up to 106%, as they are charged to their design capacity, and that the "full charge capacity" is at a lower value.

I have tried firmware A18, althoug then my computer will not boot up with dual battery setup. I get a windows bluescreen with (Inaccessible Boot Device), So i returned back to A16

Laptop power supply trips Home Circuit Breaker

I've done a few checks on this and most responses concerning this problem suggest the power is on the blink. But this has happened with a Lenovo, Acer and Dell (we're not very loyal in our family :-) ), all new machines. One power supply - an old Lenovo one which got run over by a car and still works! - has never tripped it, the rest all have.

My conclusion from that is that it isn't the individual power supply, but is some feature of the way power supplies work. The breaker, I believe, works on checking for leakage to earth by comparing input and output voltage; so do modern power supplies have some intrinsic internal storage that causes a momentary difference between the two?

It can happen whether the laptop is connected to power supply or not; so, again, conclusion is that it isn't the laptop itself that is the problem.

I'm looking for a generic fix so I don't have to reset all the clocks in the house every morning after I start work.

XPS-13 XPS-15 avoid wake-up from bluetooth mouse

This seems to be simple but it is not. When I put my XPSs to sleep just move the mouse and they wake up. I dont want this.

You should go to the mouse settings and disable the wake-up flag in the power management tab. But:

  • there is no power management tab;
  • if you use the command line powercfg -devicequery wake_armed, you get NOONE in reply
  • if you analyze the power events from the event log they are not all logged (I am expecting may in one day and I find just one).

So I am considering that when the equipment is supposed to be in sleep, it really is in a different unknown state; only after some time (hours?) it really go to sleep. But this is just an idea.

Someone can halp me in stopping bluetooth mouse to wake-up my computer?

Thanks

RAM Speed

I just upped the memory on my Inspiron 1520 laptop to 4 GB. I bought 667 MHz. Setup indicates 533 MHz.sudo lshw -short -C memory and dmidecode --type 17  | grep -i speed both indicate 667.  Why the difference between what setup reports and what the command line indicates?

Is there anything that needs to be tweaked?

XPS 13 - no bootable devices

My XPS 13 9350 worked beautifully before this morning when I allowed the dell updater to load bios rev 1.4.12 and something related to SupportAssist on the machine.  The bios update reported success but the system would not boot, complaining there was no bootable volume to be found.

I tried downgrading the bios to rev 1.4.10 and 1.4.4 with no luck.

The SSD (Samsung PM951 NWMe) show in the bios and report successful tests in the diagnostic utility.  However, when loading bootable versions of Diskpart and MiniTool (Partition Wizard), the drive is not found.

The bootloader wants to load UEFI from partition 1 of the SSD (EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi), which I believe is the correct place to boot from.  I cannot verify this, however, because I cannot get the drive to show up in any kind of utility to let me see partitions and/or MBR.

I could not find an updated firmware for the Samsung SSD and I found it odd that the driver section for this XPS model shows several other makes of SSDs (and drivers) but not the Samsung.

Any suggestions?  I seems odd to me that the SSD would fail at the exact moment of a bios update.  I'm desperate for ideas.

Thanks, Brandon

AC Adapter Error Message

Hi,

Just happened to me one hour ago. My internet connection was really slow so I decided to reboot my laptop: Alienware 17 R3. While rebooting a message appeared: (I do not have all the details, I searched it in google)

The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 180W AC adapter or higher for best system operation

The AC adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance.
Strike F3 key ( before F1 or F2 key) if you don't want to see power warning messages again.

I switched off the laptop and switched on again, the same process and had the same error 3 times but the last time I let the computer boot by striking F3 and a recovery system message appeared so I was so scared that I switched off the computer. Then, I checked the plugs and connections of the battery, unplugged the wall plug outlet and plugged again, I have an extension socket with 6 sockets so I tried another socket, the message never appeared again neither the recovery system message.

I checked the BIOS, everything seems normal: "The battery is performing normally" and warning battery messages is "enabled" (I barely remember this option). I tried shuting down the computer and rebooting but this error have not happened again. I also unplugged the battery and waited to 90% to plug again and see if charges or not but seems that works fine and is charging. Also, the green light of the battery is working, is ok. The only incident I had after that happened was my internet connection not working after rebooting, my internet was not recognized but once again I rebooted and everything seems to be fine. This is all the things that happened until now that I decided to write here. I will reboot again and test the laptop.

I am very confused, in computing things don't broke and work again without any explanation. What the *** happened? What can I do? I can't see any relation between internet connection and the battery. Also this happened suddenly and suddenly worked fine.

Thank you in advance. I would appreciate your opinion.

Regards

Jorge

Hi Team,

I bought my Inspiron 14R 5421 in about 2013. It has two memory slots. Currently I installed 2 * 4 GB memory chips in the slots. I wonder if I can put 2 * 8 GB memory chips?

I googled for a while, and some people say you can, but others say can't...

Do we have a official reference about this?

Thanks,

Abhishek Verma

XPS 15 9550 Random Reboots

Bought a refurbished, with warranty, XPS 15 9550.

Updated Windows 10 and all drivers through SupportAssist app.

Laptop is connected, full-time, to a DisplayLink dock via USB 3.0. I've downloaded and installed the dock software too.

I'm getting random reboots. It's terribly irritating. Tried Dell Phone support but I can't understand the thick Indian accent on the other end.

What might I be missing??

-Mike

PS: Running a "checkup" now..will post a screenshot if any errors are recorded.

I received a new Dell XPS 13 9365 2 in 1 three days ago.  Have been having CABC issues, can't be disabled even changing settings through Power Controls nor through Intel Graphics software, CABC stays enabled.  I sent a tweet to @DellCares one day ago and am still waiting on a response after receiving information for power options (which I had already tried) and updating Video Drivers.  Please advise if there is a way to disable CABC otherwise I will have to return the equipment.

Is this ok? Plastic around touchpad is uneven. I think that's pretty bad for almost 1000€ laptop. Touchpad quality - noisy and trembling a bit while used.
