Dell Latitude E5530 won't start

Hi everyone,

My Dell E5530 won't start, screen remains black and I have hard drive light solid, wifi and battery blinking.

Manual of E5530 don't give this case of blinking but knowledge base of E6540 says that a problem with memory detection, so I tried to use others memory from another E5530 without success. I tried to connect VGA port to an external monitor but the monitor remains black. And also tried to disconnect the hard drive without success.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Vincent

AlienRespawn broke my computer

AlienRespawn has actually bothered me for some time, it has started once or twice before after closing my computer. I usually handled this through restarting my computer, but roughly a week ago I decided to do what the computer told me to.

Upon letting the program load for a few hours I was able to start my computer up again, only to be greeted with the in-ability to use any audio function or open any .exe file nor their sources.

At first I thought this was due to the drivers being messed up, but after a few hours of trouleshooting Microsoft's tech support confirmed it was due to the OS being messed up after the use of AlienRespawn.

I'm still trying to fix this, and any form of help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 15 (5547) AC Adapter

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (5447) and recently damaged the end of the charger/AC Adapter. I am looking for a genuine replacement online and the model for the charger is "LA65NS2-01." I tried to search for one online but everywhere I checked, reviews say it did not work after a short amount of time and the charger was not genuine. I tried to contact Dell for support but because I'm not in warranty, they cannot help me find an AC Adapter. It's just the AC Adapter and Dell cannot help me so I have come to the forum.

Thank you to any responses in advance.

I received a new E5510 at work and they re-imaged it before sending it to me.  I'm trying to find the utility that lets me control the backlight timeout, but I think it wasn't included in the re-image.  Can someone tell me what I need to install to regain this control?

My Inspiron 15r 5537 touchpad is not showing in device manager, control panel and task bar.

this happened when I switched my laptop from window 8 to window 7. i again reinstalled window 8 but the device manager just shows the regular mouse and no touch pad.

It is awful not to have the gestures as it makes browsing too much difficult.

there is no app or software to configure touch pad or gestures. the normal touchpad is operating okay but gestures are not working and there is no option in control panel to manage or set touchpad i have searched using the search option and manually.

Please help.

I cannot find an answer to this anywhere. inspiron-17-7779-2-in-1-laptop with 512Gb SSD only. What is the footprint of the single SSD drive. Is it a M.2 drive or 2.5–inch drive? If I buy a cn77903 then I have a 1Tb 2.5–inch SSD drive spare so would like to replace the 512Gb with the 1Tb 2.5–inch drive if it is the right format?

Drivers for Windows 10 on L502X?

I've decided to upgrade my laptop, a 4 year old XPS15, (L502X), and will be replacing the stock hard drive with a new SSD.

So I figured it's time to upgrade the OS, also, from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.  My concern is will this laptop be compatible with 10?  It doesn't appear that Dell provides any drivers for this OS, even though MS says they are compatible.  Has anyone run 10 on this laptop model and if so, where did you find all the necessary drivers?  Thank you.

Latitude E5450 system keeps freezing

I am running Linux and Windows 7 (EFI dualboot) on a Dell Latitude E5450 (5450-6693) I bought from a German online shop about a year ago. (With 1 year ProSupport that expired exactly a month ago, hooray...)

It has been running fine in both Linux and Windows until a few days ago when it started crashing. The screen freezes and the hard disk audibly turns off. Need to press power button for four seconds to power off. When I power on again and boot into linux it reports disk corruption (ext4 filesystem, fsck finds orphaned inodes).

There's no discernible pattern as to CPU load, temperature or RAM utilization when it crashes. Crashes are somewhat sporadic - can go several hours without a crash or crash within half an hour of turning it back on.

I haven't used Windows much since it started crashing so I can't say if it happens under Windows too.

I did boot into Windows and start diagnostics using System Detect / SupportAssist. It ran most of the tests, including graphics card diagnostics. At some point the screen turned black. The camera LED flashed several times as if it was testing the camera. The screen stayed black and has now been black for an hour. It does not react to touchpad or keyboard input, although the hard disk appears to be active.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue with either the crashing or the system diagnostics could be?

Inspiron 7378 won't boot into Windows 10 Safe Mode

I'm having an issue getting this Inspiron 7378 to into Windows 10 Safe Mode.

After navigation into Advanced Repair Settings and telling the system to reboot into Safe Mode, the laptop gets stuck on the Dell logo and will not complete its POST operations. My only fix is to unplug the power adapter, drain the battery, and then boot back up.

Any idea why the laptop won't boot into Safe Mode?

Dell Inspiron 5000 - external monitor

Hi - I've just gotten my Inspiron 5000 i5(7th gen) with HD Graphics 620 displayad.  The laptop has a HDMI port and I wondered if I can connect it to an external monitor and have my display on both?  I've tried a HDMI to VGA connector but that only seems to allow either or - I thought it might be the adaptor but is it actually that the laptop doesn't support dual monitors?  And if it does - can anyone give me any pointers on what needs to be configured to allow the double display?

Thanks!

XPS 13 (9360) - advice on some accessories

$

Have just recently bought an XPS 13 9360 model ( Intel i5, 8gb memory, 256 SSD, Kaby Lake).

Need some advice before ordering some new bits & pieces.

Need to achieve 3 things:

1) link up to an larger external monitor

2) Copy a larger number of music CDs  into ITunes folder/ watch DVDs on laptop

3) Link to and store data on an external HDD

Could someone please advise on suitable accessories to achieve these.

Already have a 19" monitor. Do I just need a USB C to HDMI cable? Do I need any other adaptor?

What external optical drive works specifically with the XPS 13 9360? Do the USB ports have enough power output to run a single USB cables optical drive eg. The Dell DW 316

or is there a model that users have found works well with the 9360.

Finally can anyone recommend the best sort of cable to use for linking to and storing data on an external HDD? Can I just use a standard USB cable or is it better with a different type.

Apologies for the basic questions, but I am a bit of a technophobe and have struggled to find the correct answers on the web.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Missing On Screen Display (OSD) for volume and brightness adjustments with Fn keys

I have a Dell Precision 5510 laptop issued by my work. They have installed some custom software and  and I seem to have lost the OSD showing the little bars indicating adjustments to Volume and Brightness when you use the Fn keys to adjust them. A search of previous threads indicated this function was previously managed by a program called Dell Quickset or Dell ControlPoint System Manager, but these were from posts several years old and neither of those programs seems to be applicable to my current laptop. Any idea what program or drivers need to be installed to restore this functionality?
