Many Problems with New Laptop

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 2 and 1. I purchased it about 6 months ago. Off the bat, I've been having some random issues with it.

1) Sometimes while it's charging, I will go back to try and use it, but the laptop has shut down on its own. The charging light with start blinking repeatedly yellow and white and I have to hold down the power button for several seconds so it stops. Then after a few minutes, I will turn it back on and when I do, the wifi isn't detected and there's no way to get my internet to work so yet again, I have to restart it a second time and then the wifi is fine. There is no rhyme or reason to this happening. It happens randomly. It's not the charger itself or any loose connection, I've looked into that. It's also not the laptop dying because when this occurs, it's usually charged 40+%.

2) The laptop overheats very quickly, especially when charging. There isn't just the typical fan noise you hear when your laptop is trying to cool off, but it's a buzzing sound that doesn't seem right. The other night when I was playing a game, my computer crashed and I got the blue screen and then it restarted. I don't know if it crashed because it was too much for my laptop to handle, although it was running fine (no freezing/lagging), or if the program itself caused it to crash. Never had the blue screen before, quite bothersome as this laptop is still new.

3) There will be a random beeping nose that happens every so often. Again, no specific pattern. Sometimes it doesn't happen for weeks at a time and then when I'm simply surfing the web, it will beep out of nowhere.

I've run diagnostics and there were no problems detected. I have anti virus software and I update my laptop whenever I get the notification to do so. I don't download things that aren't safe, I hardly download at all. A lot of what I've read has lead me to think that the hard drive is the problem, but all the testing I've done has ruled that out.

I do have a 2 year warranty and I'm wondering if I should take it in. I've avoided that so far because of the tests coming up clear. Any thoughts as to why this laptop that I purchased only 6 months ago has such problems when it shouldn't?

Thanks in advance.

Dell XPS 13 9350 charging adapter dead

Is this common? Have had the laptop for only 7-8 months. It started getting real flakey this past week. Charging and then stopped every so often. Yesterday it just flat out failed. I went into the bios to verify. Battery was excellent but wall adapter said unknown.

Also noticed when plugging in the adapter by itself. The little white light was not coming on. Contacted Dell. Had to do the protocol troubleshooting and they determined it was a faulty adapter over the phone. They are sending a new replacement. I also have a question.

Is it safe to leave the charger plugged in all the time? Or only plug it in when I go to charge the laptop? Btw. Getting back to the adapter. I tried different outlets and surge protectors. Same results. Not working.

But for the heck of it. I tried this morning and the adapter is working again. Crazy. Is it safe to use until Dell sends me the new one?

How to Find Windows License Key

$

I have a new DELL Inspiron 5547 that was purchased through Amazon.com.  The computer came pre-loaded with Windows 8.1 PRO.  I would like to record the License Key but am unable to locate it.  It is not on the machine itself, the shipping box, or with any printed material included with the purchase.

Any ideas on how to locate the key?

Thanks,  Dave...

XPS 15, 2016 - BIOS update made Defrag Detects RAID-0 HDD as SSD.

Guys,

My laptop came with RAID-0 by default in bios. I have 1 TB hard drive (HTS541010A7E630).

Not sure if somebody has noticed that but after the latest bios update for my XPS 15 with 1TB hard drive, defrag on Windows 10 64bit detects RAID-0 HDD as SSD now!!!

That forbids me to optimize my drive or run defragmentation. I also noticed it actually slowed down my XP 15 significantly since that update.

Dell, please confirm, advice and help.

Thanks.

Inspiron 7559 - Performance drop after intense SSD write operation - Restart Required

$

There is a severe performance drop for my Dell Inspiron 7559 after intense writing operations on the SSD. Performance drop includes flickering icons, slow and laggy Windows behaviour. A characteristic example is that it takes more or less 10 seconds to go from the screensaver to the desktop... A restart will restore performance to normal. I have tested the SSD but it seems that it works perfectly fine, even with back to back tests. Ideas anyone?

Laptop won't shut down properly or go to sleep

I'm using a dell vostro 5470

i used this laptop for about one year with windows 10 x64. worked perfectly, nothing to blame

last week i decided to completely reset it. downloaded a windows 10 iso from microsoft and put it on a flash drive, booted from it and deleted everything from my hard drive. i deleted every partition then i made a new one

clean instalation, no problems

my laptop had the a09 bios untill that date. i went on the dell site to download the remaning drivers that weren't installed by windows update and it recommended me to also install the a12 bios

i installed everything and since then i started having these problems

if i turn on the laptop and use it for only 30min-1 hour, it goes normally into sleep and it also shuts down normally. but if i use it for 2-3-4 hours, wheneveer I try to turn it of or put it into sleep it doesn't work. more explicitly, (in the chase of shutting it down) windows closes all applications, the screen goes black, the hard drive activity led flashes, then turns on for 2-3 seconds then it goes out like the os is shut down, but the power button still remains lit and the same with the power on led from under the screen

here's what I tried to do to fix this:

-re-installed the windows and deleted again every partition

-changed the bios from legacy to uefi thinking it will solve the problem

-looked on other forums

-downgraded the bios to the A09 version, the one that came with the laptop

-ran an epsa diagnostic(pressing f12 before the os boots and running the diagnostic)

the diagnostic showed no error but the laptop still doesn't shut down or sleep properly.

P.S.: my warranty is expired so i can't contact dell customer support with an email nor do i have the option to go into live chat but i have a friend with another dell laptop that has these options. would it be a bad idea to try to contact dell using my friends service tag?

Looking forward for your solutions

XPS 13 9360 first unboxing power on

Hello,

When I have got my new XPS 13 9360 (late 2016) it was completely dead battery just right out the box. I had had to plug the AC adapter to be able to start booting. Is it normal to be shipped without any pre-charge? I am worried because devices with Li-Pol batteries are usually shipped with proper pre-charge, but I my case the battery was dead.

What was your unboxing experience?

P. S. I am electrical enigeer.

Dell xps 9550 Battery suddenly discharing after latest "dell update"

Hello everyone. after my last "dell update" ive had some SERIOUS issues with the battery.. i can charge it to 100% shut down the screen lid, and its discharged next morning when i wake up.

i live in Denmark, and the warratny rules are propably different here in other countries, but here we can call the sales place, and open up a warranty case, here at dell it seems that we are FORCED to go through a lot of different steps before being able to open up a warranty case. isnt there any way to avoid all those "trouble shotting" with AI bots they have hired to filter out the customer's wanting to open up a warranty case

i have paid for premium support, but when i called the last night they wanted me to call back, but for whatever reason it was, i dont know

I now have a spacebar that is squeaky, a battery that is discharging, and a monitor that randomly starts blinking. oh yeah and if you have the dell sound software turned on and you try to dim the light on the monitor by using FN+ F11 or 12 you get a lot of statis noise in the speakers.

Pls can someone help me, and the regular warranty is about to run out in 17 days, and i want this resolved asap. I am afraid that dell might postpone this to make the warranty run out :(

im new to using Dell services and dell forum's but it seem like a very big job to open up a simple warranty case

Regards

WD15 firmware update oddity

$

After all the previous update, WD15 has been almost stable with the XPS 15 9550, except for occasional random system freezes unless the computer is in airplane mode.

I've applied the recent WD15 firmware update, or at least tried to (?)

(Dell Wired Dock (WD15) Firmware Update Utility, v 1.0.0.8, 27 Dec 2016)

In the first attempt, the system rebooted for flashing, but flashing did not start.

In the second attempt, flashing did start, and lasted for a while, but a failure was reported.

After reboot and WD15 power-off, I tried for the third time, and it said the system was up to date.

I do not notice any change in performance. I have had a system freeze shortly after with the wifi radio on. I did not expect a change regarding this, I blame it on the Dell Wireless 1830.

Can someone offer an interpretation of the log I found, because what I read does not appear to be consistent with the actual events

He guys,

Does anyone know if an Alienware 13 with i7 processor is fast enough to edit 4K video's in Sony Vegas Pro? I currently own a desktop computer but i'd like to have a laptop for portability. Futhermore i'd like to know if an Alienware laptop works exactly the same as a 'normal' laptop like the XPS laptops.

Hi,i found this new laptop amazing and i wanted to buy it on the dell italy ecommerce.

This laptop has a double hard disk system, hdd 1tb 5400 rpm and ssd 128 gb. I just wanted to replace the hdd 1tb because it's old and get a 512 gb ssd.I couldn't find some specs so i asked twice to che assistance chat, but they seems a bit counfused about my request.

The first one told me that the hdd and ssd are welded to the motherboard and not replaceable.

The second one told me that the 128 ssd can be upgraded to 256 but the hdd 5400 is the only compatible.

Can you please help me? i like this laptop and i want to buy it but i don't want an hard disk whith a 10 years old technology.

Dell XPS 13 9360 - some basic questions on accessories

$

0

Have just recently bought an XPS 13 9360 model ( Intel i5, 8gb memory, 256 SSD, Kaby Lake).

Need some advice before ordering some new bits & pieces.

Need to achieve 2 things:

1) link up to an larger external monitor

2) Copy a larger number of music CDs  into ITunes folder/ watch DVDs on laptop

3) Link to and store data on an external HDD

Could someone please advise on suitable accessories to achieve these.

Already have a 19" monitor. Do I just need a USB C to HDMI cable? Do I need any other adaptor?

What external optical drive works specifically with the XPS 13 9360? Do the USB ports have enough power output to run a single USB cables optical drive eg. The Dell DW 316

or is there a model that users have found works well with the 9360.

Finally can anyone recommend the best sort of cable to use for linking to and storing data on an external HDD? Can I just use a standard USB cable or is it better with a different type.

Apologies for the basic questions, but I am a bit of a technophobe and have struggled to find the correct answers on the web.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Alienware 17 R2 Windows 10 drivers for OnScreen Display Adaptor and Kionix Free Fall Sensor

$
0
0

Hi,

I have an Alienware 17 R2 that I purchased from Dell.  I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 Professional.  After installing Windows 10, I used Dell's online utility to detect drivers (or updates) appropriate for my system.  Doing this took care of all of the "Unknown Devices" that are listed in Device manager except for two.  The two that remain have the following Hardware IDs:

First Unknown Device:

ACPI\VEN_CPL&DEV_0002

ACPI\CPL0002

*CPL0002

Second Unknown Device:

ACPI_VEN_KIOX&DEV_0095

ACPI_KIOX0095

*KIOX0095

---------------------

When I run the automatic detection tool, it says "No driver updates found.  Your system has the most recent updates."  After searching in the dell forums for posts related to similar issues, I believe that the first unknown device is related to an "Alienware On-Screen Display Application" and the second unknown device is related to a "Kionix Free Fall Sensor Driver".  For both of these, the only drivers I can find on the Dell website say that they are supported for Windows 7 and 8.1, but not Windows 10.

Can anyone tell me where I can find Windows 10 drivers for these unknown devices?

Thanks in advance,

Paul
