Hello.

Dell Vostro 5459.

First, my wife complained on diagnostic screen appearing during system start now and then. Haven't yet seen it myself though but from what she said the screen is about well known "the AC adapter type cannot be determined..." problem. Everytime she just skipped it and all went well.

Then we noticed random perfomance drops. In Windows event log I found some warnings about CPU working on lower frequency. CPU-Z confirmed that showing only 400Mhz (it's an i3 6100U 2.3Ghz).

System restart doesn't solve the problem. But simple AC adapter unplugging works great. Freq boosts to the normal at once and then we can just reconnect the adapter cable back and work for another 2-3 days untill it occurs again.

Some more info: right after purchasing the device (about 3 months ago) I replaced HDD for SSD, flashed latest BIOS version and did a fresh install of Win10Pro Anniversary. Forbad OS to update drivers, did it via Dell Support Assistant instead.

AC adapter and coords ain't damaged, always properly connected and I tried different wall outlets (who knows) Battery charges well. The Laptop is used for... everything. Gaming included. Not sure whether perfomance drops happen only during high load (e.g. game) but HWMonitor never showed more than 67C and judging by tactile perception of the bottomplate temperature is far from CPU throttling limits and It wouldn't be solved by simple reconnection of the power cord.

Forgot to mention, AC adapter produces high pitched noise. Not that loud but still a bit irritating. Dunno whether it may cause the problem.

So that's it. What else can I try to know for sure what it is? Is it a warranty case? Any pieces of advice will be appreciated.

Hi folks,

Having a problem with my Dell Inp 15 7559 I bought this a month ago and it was working fine last night. Went to boot it up this morning and noticed a pattern of LED flashes, 2 Amber first then a pause, then 4 White flashes. 

Nothing comes up on screen can hear the laptop trying to boot at start but nothing..... Seems strange to happen out of the blue? This is happening on both powered and battery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

after the last BIOS-Release i got a major issue. When i need the performance of my notebook i usally running it with the ac plugged in. But since a few days, the laptop switch to battery profile when the battery is fully charged - which means i get a huge impact on the performance and on my battery life.

Typically it last for 5 - 10 minutes and then the led on the front side goes on again and the laptop is switching it´s power profile back to ac.

Please help me to get rid of this.

I habe a dell XPS 15 9550 and after installing kubuntu as a dual Boot System, i Got this issue. Nowak i habe to do the following Workaround everytime i use my notebook.

1. Start the notebook via Powerbutto
2. Hitting the F2-Key like i was fighting an endboos.
3. Seeing the BIOS menu in just a 2 - 3 inch hight line.
4. Pressing "ESC" to Restaurant the System without doing an changes.
5. The System starts totally normal

I also upgraded my ram to 32GB, buhlt in a 512 GB nvme pci-ssd from Samsung and a 512 GB normal ssd from Samsung. And I also changed to AHCI in BIOS.

Any sugesstions?

Can i upgrade  the Gpu of my alienware M15x from gtx 260m to gtx770m? or should i buy an external graphics card?

Now it's the taskbar. XPS 13 9350. Recently the taskbar on the laptop continues to grow larger and larger. The most I've let it go is to half the page. It's funny for a minute and then it's not. I keep unlocking the taskbar, resizing it back to it's normal single line, re-locking the taskbar, and then come back to find it's started to work it's way up the screen again. This in addition to it's newer tendency to not show up at all if a window is open (but you will find it on the desktop, you will) Any Ideas? Thanks.

I would appreciate any help from the group.

My 2 year old Dell XPS 11 recently started giving me errors. When i power it on, I get the message "Repairing disk errors - This might take over an hour to fix. " I let this go for 24 hours and nothing happened!  I used the F12 to use BIOS diagnostics and ALL the tests pass with NO errors.

I have no idea how to proceed. I cant get to the windows recovery/safeboot to attempt a reset or a recovery. Should I purchase a new mSATA SSD? If so, how do I get the Dell windows 10 image for this laptop?

Hi there,

I've really been struggling with this: I'm trying to install Windows 10 from Dell USB drive that I've made bootable, but it's only seen in the legacy options in the one-time boot menu. Secure boot is off and UEFI is enabled. I need the USB to be recognized as UEFI in order to install Windows to boot to UEFI. I'm using Rufus to make the bootable drive and I've tried both MBR and GPT partition scheme for UEFI with no luck. Is there any BIOS settings I need to check?

Hey guys, I have an Inspiron 7737 laptop running Windows 8.1 and one problem I've had since I got it is it keeps randomly shutting down. Just out of the blue, I could be doing something and the screen suddenly goes black and I have to reboot. This only happens when the laptop is plugged in, never on battery, and weirdly, never when it's playing a movie or running a game either! I thought it could be something to do with overheating and the fans, because it does get very hot, but after sending it off for repairs (unrelated - but I took the opportunity to get some new fans) the problem remains. 

Any help/advice?

Can I fix boot tracks as a secondary drive hooked up to a Mac? Or at least run Dell Diagnostics.

This is going to be quite a long description. Flashback to about a year ago. My son and I were trying to hook up his computer to a dell external monitor. It only provides hdmi output, but we had a USB to the phone line thing. We thought we could hook it up by connecting the computer to the monitor with the phone line port in the computer to the USB port on the monitor. MAJOR MISTAKE. The whole computer when black. The screen wasn't lit, but the power indicator was on. Nothing else. We ended up fixing it, but don't know how anymore. Before we did this, on startup, we saw the black screen with Dell Inspiron on it. Afterwards, all i see is lines on the screen.

Now fast forward to now. Recently (last 8 months) when I turn on the computer, I get the lines on the screen and I hear this beeping. Accidently happened in a library. Librarian thought I had a bomb or something I was able to fix it by connecting the computer into a external screen by the hdmi. The screen would then light up.

Then a couple hours ago, all broke loose. I went into my room, hit the power button and got a response of the same lines on the screen, but a beeping. But then I noticed several more but different now green colored lines on the left side of my screen. I took it to my tv thinking that would fix it and got the computer screen up on the t.v. But not on my pc. Still beeping and not lightning up. I looked up on the internet some solutions and I decided to boot my computer in safe mode by using the msconfig in run. I selected safe mode and restarted my computer. Well, now I don't hear the beeping, don't see anything on my t.v. And the same lines on my pc. I realize now that booting in safe mode results in not working with external monitor. I feel stupid. Any help would be great, Unfortunatly I think the computer is done for. Please help as fast as possible. I have exams I have to study for tommorow and my notes are on the pc.

My inspiron R15 is 2 years old (to the day) and now it's acting up my 'esc' '1' on numberpad and 'h' won't work. Added to this my 'g' sometimes works and other times it just goes nuts and keeps repeating itself. I didn't install anything new nor did I spill anything on the laptop. I was thinking of an issue with the matrix code but these keys seem to have no connection to eachother. Added to this my touchpad sometimes just stops working and I can temporarily fix this by pressing the windows key.

In short if I replace the keyboard will this all be fixed?

Can I upgrade my 6200U CPU i5 in my Dell Inspirion 5559 laptop?

I want to switch my 6200U CPU dual-core to a quad-core cpu but I'm unable to find any information on the max cpu upgrade in the Dell manual that says that I can.  Is it possibly to install a quad-core or is dual-core the max it'll go?

Hello! I just upgraded my storage to SSD, so I did a fresh install of my OS along with the drivers. Unfortunately I don't seem to find Synaptics Touchpad UI Driver for my Inspiron 3452. Can anybody help us with this please? The user interface looks like attached that's what I'm refering to.

Note : I've tried driver from the download & drivers section support for my notebook, but none of those are working.

I got brand new DELL XPS 15 / 9550 I7 6700HQ I used it just one week. During closing screen broken itself - just like nothing. It was broken by finger when I was closing - what is completely unusual!. That is my another Dell XPS  laptop I use and that is shock to me (of course laptop was in cover and has completely no any scratches, simply 100% new!). I even did not complete transfer all my data from old laptop.

I came to service point in Vietnam (I bought in USA). It was said to me that screen is not under warranty and there is my fault. I am trying to show it to some Dell person to look - I think that is problem from manufacturer - possibly damaged screen or wrong made from begginging.

Anyway - Vietnam service of Dell asked me 1500USD for screen replacement. 

I am trying someone from Dell Company is interested in my case, but I am hardly ignored. So maybe there is any better way I could do sth? 

Could anyone help me in that case? I feel blurred .....

Dell Latitude e6400

Purchased and installed two 4GB RAM sticks.  Windows only sees 4GB. I switched the slots, same result.  Installed only one stick, it sees it.  Installed the other, same.  It just won't see 8GB.

So i just reinstalled windows 7 on my dell inspiron 1370 laptop as i was having endless trouble installing sp1.

All went well and managed to install sp1 fine.

Restarted then went back into windows update to install the other 22 available updates and when that was complete i restarted to be greeted with the red screen death and (hopefully not terminal) messages about autoexec.bat (photo attached).

I can't get to safe mode via f8.

If anyone can be of any assistance I'd be eternally grateful.

Hello!

I stupidly turned my laptop off with the power button instead of properly shutting it down.. it has now turned against me and I have the "black screen of death".

When starting it up it asks me to either start windows up normally or to repair my computer as a recommended setting, neither works. When trying to start it up normally it just returns back to that menu and then when trying to repair my computer it brings the windows logo up, brings the dell loading screen up and then the screen goes blank and doesn't change.

I have tried starting it up in safe mode and it still returns to this menu..

I honestly have no idea and have never had this problem before, any help would be appreciated.
