dell inspiron m5030 wont boot, 7 post beeps continuously, no screen, doesn't respond to keyboard after virus attempted to install

I got a popup and an attempt to install an exe file when i browsed a site with my virus software on.  It then went to priviledge escalation mode, and at that point I hard powered down the computer.  WHen I attempted to restart, i got the post 7 beep.  Removed the cmos backup battery, replaced, tried again, same beep.  I have the hard drive on an USB harness on my lab server and the partitions show up fine.  Haven't run a virus scan yet.  All of the answers I see for the same problem indicate a failed processor, but would this happen concurrently with an attempt to install a trojan?  Windows 7 btw. no new hardware installed prior to the error. 


Cursor Jumping Around

I have an Alienware m18x and my cursor is jumping around when I'm typing and I'm not touching the touchpad.

Sometimes it goes back a few words, sometimes it jumps up a line.

Is this a driver issue?

Can someone at Dell post the  most current driver?
 

XPS 13 Can't Hibernate, it can only sleep?

I just purchased the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook, and any setting to enable Hibernate is missing in Windows 7.  I am using the factory install.  When I try to enable it via a DOS command prompt, I get the following error:

The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
        The system firmware does not support hibernation.

I checked in the BIOS (A04) and there are no settings to enable around hibernation.

So does this mean the XPS 13 can't use this feature?  Seems strange that a laptop, even an ultrabook, wouldn't be able to hibernate.  Or am I just missing something?

While the XPS 13 boots quickly, and sleep mode does work, there are many times were I want to turn it off, but keep all of my files open and ready for when I turn it back on.  Sleep allows this, but the battery still drains in sleep, where leaving it in hibernate would not affect the battery.

Dell Vostro 1500 Display not working. Beep Codes

I got some strange vertical lines on the display after connecting to TV via video s. After rebooting computer is powering up but Display is not working - also it will not detect/connect to external monitor. Display Test (D-Power) works fine shows colours etc. Diagnostic Test (fn- power) gives me led bink codes followed by these beep codes: 3 quick alarm sequenses then 3 long - 2 long - 1 long beep. Tried to remove and switch the RAM, checked connections of the Dispay.. but problem persists.

Does anyone know what these Beeps mean?  I need to know if there is a chance of solving this by changing video card / ram or something, if it could be a lose connection or if its related to a broken Mainboard. In case the mainboard is death i will not order a new video card etc., but how can i find out / test this without a display?

I have a dell Inspiron M5030, purchased 12/09, so no warranty.  The laptop shuts it's self off, even when pulled in to an outlet.  When I ran a (diagnostic) the hard drive failed.  Could this be what is causing the automatic shut down?  Any help would be appreicated.

 

XPS L501x Lagging Everywhere!

Recently I have a major lagging problem with my XPS L501x unlike before. It lags in everything: browsing, gaming, opening files, Ctrl+F in txt files takes too long to open, even the right click lags, watching youtube videos, games, programs, applying settings on anything, playing music and video files, switching between tabs in any browser, opening folders, typing, etc..

I tried everything but the problem still exists. I formatted all the hard drive with all partitions and done a clean Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Installation, updated all the drivers definitions and installed windows updates but problem wasn't resolved. I ran dell diagnostics by pressing the F12 key while starting up and it passed all the tests, updated the BIOS to A08. Also cleaned all vents to remove dust and used a cooling pad under the laptop but the problem still exists. So I decided to send it to dell tech support. They wouldn't able to solve the problem.

I uninstalled the Intel Rapid Storage Driver as I found that this may help but with no luck too. 

Any suggestions please?

My Laptop Specs:

Intel Core i7 1.73 GHz with TurboBoost

RAM: 6GB

Nvidia GeForce GT 435M 2GB Dedicated.

Toshiba Hard Disk: 640GB

Like all the users above, I'm experiencing the same problem.

Really sad to see the Dell deprecation. And I mean it, It's not that a guy from Dell is unable to offer a professional answer if not a solution.

But it's about having a computer and being unable to properly update a critical area like the drivers. The Dell computer itself becomes a relic. Of course I won't probably look for a Dell as my next comp if such situations persist, and Dell should be normally aware of the risks. The reputation is hardly gained but easy to lose.

From my point of view, even the technical approach is naive, to say the least. Let's see - we have a My Dell central application already on our laptops. It would be quite natural to make from here a call to a Dell web service and automatically send a snapshot of the system with whatever information Dell needs. Then a result is sent back with the drivers that need update. The same app could then download all the stuff and install it with presumably admin rights.

It's so simple and robust that I'm puzzled when I see this twisted solution they imagined, with this resident Dell System Detect app launched from outside and all the stuff.

Dell Driver Analyze Utility - not working

I've been trying to run the Dell Driver Analyze Utility to check for drivers updates on my recently bought Inspiron 17R SE . 

Every time is run the utility first I get :

and after a few minutes :
We're sorry
 We're sorry, we were unable to analyze your system. Please return to the Drivers HomeReturn to 
Tech support gave me useless answer like " there is a temporary system problem, check back in 24 hours"
or even worse :
"why do you want to update the drivers, there is no need for that, if the system is working fine!!!

Dell 15n 5050

I have a dell laptop 15n n5050 with an intel core i3 "stock processor" I am upgrading to 8MB of memory soon. I had a few questions I would like to have answered. First I want to say I have been a dell user my entire life and will never use or recommend another brand.

questions

1) I want to upgrade the cpu. What will this model support? i5? i7? please explain if possible and let me know what the fastest chip is that I can add

2) If a faster chip is added does this change my options for more memory? rather than a 4x2MB upgrade can I do a 8x2mb upgrade.

3) as for the hard drive it is obviously SATA 5400 500gig ... I dont think this is going to be an issue but just in case. Can I upgrade the HD to a oh.. 1tb at 10000 RPM? 

4) lastly the battery life SUCKS, it's the only feature I do not like.. Can a better, longer lasting battery be added to the computer. 

Please respond and help with these questions .

But I can not access it from My Computer and select it as the main boot drive.

But it are listed under device manager and bios infomation

Hello ,

I am having a serious problem with my dell laptop. Its not starting up. it was working fine but suddenly a different sound started soming and screen stopped and it gotshutdown. and now As i press the power button the power led glow but not the other leds. fan is working and the dvd rom too, but the laptop is not starting up. even dell logo is not coming. That means the bios are not loading.  what should I do now ?? Tomorrow I need to give a presentation in the college and everything is in my laptop only. so please someone help me ?? I will be very thankful to you .

Stripped hole thread on back assembly of laptop display

On my Inspiron E1705, the bottom left hole thread on the back assembly of the laptop display is stripped. Because the screw won't hold, the hinge won't budge when I try to close the lid. Am I 'screwed'?

The sickening support of Dell

At one time Dell had the best customer service in the world. That was many years ago. Even with Mike Dell coming back to the company they have completely ignored the customers continual request that Tech support be brought back to the U.S. and Canada. Instead we are thrown into a cue with careless, nameless and  unknowledgeable tech "support" when faced with any issue hang up. India, Philippines and Mexico now answer calls and could care less if the problems are resolved. 

The good news is we have finally rid entire company of Dell and replaced every computer and server. Apple now rules as they have for some time. The support is U.S. based and they immediately respond to our every issue or question without being interrogated about the warranty or placing blame on the software. 

Anyone is has a Dell knows exactly what I'm talking about. The so-called service Dell offers is a nightmare at best and the equipment is substandard. Even though the cost to move over to Apple is high. The cost to stay with a company like Dell who clearly cares less about anything except selling you a sub-standard product and service is far greater. So do yourselves a favor BUY AN APPLE and you'll never be sorry.

Someone turn out the lights at Dell. The body is dead they just haven't buried them yet.

Left palmrest heat

Hello guys.

I recently bought the new Inspiron 14R 5437.

Since the first day I bought it, I've noticed something: the left palmrest was really warmer, making me feel uncomfortable when I put my wrist there.

I've checked the temperature, and it was about 50~55ºC while I was using the internet. I know that the temperatures are normal, but even with that, I still feeling uncomfortable. 

I already contacted the Dell Technical Support, and they told me that everything was fine. But, I'm teeling you, I'm not feeling good with this notebook. It's not normal to feel this heat. I cannot even type well with this.

What's is wrong with it? Is that supposed to be happen? Is it normal? 

Unable to boot off USB on Vostro 3360

I've got a 3360 with the latest BIOS and have a problem where I cannot boot any LiveCD off USB. I've tried BT, Ubuntu, OpenSuse. I've tried using unetbootin and yami to create the iso to USB (Which works on other laptops) but I cannot get my Sandisk 8GB usb stick to boot from the 3360.

I've tried all 3 usb ports, and also set the boot mode to legacy. I keep getting operating system not found.

Trackpad gestures not working after upgrade to windows 8.1

I have an xps 13 with a cypress trackpad, and yesterday I upgraded to windows 8.1 and found that the gestures on the trackpad no longer work (like the 2 finger scrolling and such). I tryed updating the driver and it failed which left me without use of the trackpad all together and furthermore my keyboard wouldn't work either. So I had to do a reset my computer to get thigs working again.

How do I get my trackpad to work again with gestures in windows 8.1?

The laptop's pamrest still has the distinct oder that it had before.  It smells of cat urine, and If you think that I have forgetten as to the effect this has done to our catering business you are mistaken.   The laptop screen has a continual binking in and out problem to which they are apparently trying to still fix and playing on my last never for me to reasonabling make sure that a replacement or refund is of final restitute.   I am however working with my lawyers patiently to find out how this case will eventually be handled.   I hope you make sure the right people understand all of this.  Good day,

Missing Drivers to Connect to the Internet

Hello. I am new here and am not sure were to post this problem specifically. I do apologize if I posted this post in the wrong forum.

 

I am having a hard time determining what hard drive I need to install in order to connect to the internet on another computer. I am using Dell, but I'm not sure what is the computer's product model if the number is required for further assistance.

 

I have two drivers in the "Other Devices" section called "Network Controller" and "PCI Simple Communications Controller". Although the Realtek Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) driver is working, I am not sure if I need to install it, neither do I know what drivers I need to connect to the internet.
