To go along with all the other problems the XPS13 Ultrabook has had with the garbage Cypress trackpad and drivers...

I updates to Windows 8.1 and the computer is now completely useless.   The track pad jumps all over the place.   Windows open and close at random.  I didn't think the problem could get worse but HOLY *** it is now truly a brick unless you run with the standard windows driver that is garbage and loses all functionality.

So sad for what could be such a great little laptop.  Dell is no help.  Cypress is no help.   This is sad. So sad.

Hello there. Recently my battery 'time remaining' meter have been showing outrageous time left (e.g. 55 hr 35mins). I have looked on the internet for solutions but I couldn't find any. Please help me.

I just received my Dell Inspiron 15r today and noticed that the time remaining shown for my battery is 216 hrs. at 86% battery life. Obviously this is inaccurate, but is it something I should expect after the first charge? I restarted my computer and hit F2 during the restart and checked the health of the battery. It said it was healthy, but is there some more diagnostics I can run to tackle this issue?

My son purchased his Dell Inspiron 7720 towards the beginning of the year.  For the past couple months, he has been experiencing the black screen on start up just after the Dell logo.  He has been using the ctrl, alt, del trick to get the computer to load.  However, this trick is no longer working.  I have been reading through all of the threads on this site and tried everything suggested, to no avail.  Can someone please let me know what the next step would be?  This is really driving my son crazy, as he is a 13 year old boy who now cannot access his games.

I have a XPS L-701X. It's been pretty much great since I bought it. Just this morning, I got to the computer (I usually leave it on) and the screen was black with a pointer cursor, and nothing else. The cursor moved, but there was no other signs of life. Powering the machine off then on, it brought up screens that there was a problem with the computer and it proceeded indicate that it was searching for solutions, then went into a screen indicating disk errors were being repaired - and that this might take over an hour to complete. After this screen would clear, the computer restarts, the black screen and cursor appears again, letting that cook for a while, the computer goes back into disk repair mode. Looping through this.

I'm running Win 8.1 Preview, and the Synapse touch pad and Nvidia drivers are versions beyond the final updates logged for the L-701X.

I can't get into the restore mode by pressing F8. I can't get into Safe Mode, either. I've looked at Microsoft's tech notes on this, and it seems that you can only access Safe Mode by restarting from the OS, which requires an operating OS.

I'm thinking it's a graphics driver crash. If I could get in somewhere to reinstall that, I might be fine. Just a guess.

Any thoughts?

I'm going to go and get drive enclosure, another hard drive, get the data off drive, and start rebuilding - unless I hear otherwise.

I have an Inspiron 15R (N5010) with Windows 7 Home Basic. Due to unavoidable circumstances,I had to format my entire drive and reinstall my windows .Now I'm unable to connect to internet (Both wifi and ethernet). Should I need to install any driver software to enable it???

I have an Inspiron 1545 and I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 8. Unfortunately, I deleted the old partition and it says I'm missing drivers...I can't install drivers without an operating system and I can't install an OS without my drivers. I'm stumped Windows. Well played.

My problem is that i made windows 7 installation cd, then i formated my pc and when i reinstall everything and i proceed to activate windows appear that error code 0xc004E003.  I dont know what im doing wrong maybe the windows 7 cd installation or something.

Please help i dont know what more to do. :( i tried everything to activate and nothing happens

I have a customer's N7110 that will not charge. Have tried a different AC adaptor, various combinations of the battery out/in, device manager reset, shutdown/restart, etc but still not charging. Battery level is currently 0% so I am unable to update the BIOS, can anyone suggest what I can try, laptop has hardly been used and is two months out of warranty. Thanks. 

Edit to add Power LED is flashing amber four times, then solid white. Have also re-installed Quickset.

Greetings!

Just about an hour ago, I was playing a game, I went into the bathroom and when I came back I saw my computer ( alienware m17x4) had shut down.
When I tried turning it on again, I got the following message : Warning: 180W adapter was detected, please use 240W blablabla....

My resolution had also changed to 800:600.

I have had this laptop for almost 10 months now, i've never had a issue like that before!

Can anyone please assist me regarding what should I do?

Edit1: I also have quite annoying lag, when I plug in my charger, it says : plugged in, not charging.

Inspiron 14z. Opened it, hit power, nothing happened. Repeat. Was fine last night. Had 50% power left. Thinking it was the battery, I plugged it in. Nothing. So I let it sit plugged in, 15 min now. Opened, power, nothing. While I can send it in for repair, I'd like to try to troubleshoot. What is my next step? I thought maybe the battery went bad but plugged in makes no difference,

Hi,

This is gone be my first time buy ,i am a bit confused by what i see in the 'configuration' process , and what is claimed in a dell youtube video on the M6800.

The configuration step in the store shows no option to select a second HD or SSD drive, but the youtube video claims there could be several (4) HD's installed.

So is the M6800 in my shopping cart something different then the one promoted on youtube, or is it just because the custom configuration is not offered in the online store to have an additional HD or SSD?

There is no option in the configuration step to have 32GB either.

So i am a bit confused and afraid i will have a n M6800 model that has only 1 drive and can't be expanded ...

I am also working in a linux environment and swapping drives would be a very nice feature.

Can someone shine a light on this ?

I think my Inspiron 1720 graphics card has failed: constant blue-screen shutdowns with the message “Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.” make the machine unusable. I have tried uninstalling and installing older and newer drivers and Windows generic, current and rolled-back, all to no avail. I have also taken the machine apart and reseated the card - with no effect.

 The card is an NVidia GeForce 8400M GS, which only seems to be available used. I have seen a lot of references to this card’s tendency to fail, so that is not an attractive option. Related higher-spec cards are 8400M GT, 8600M GS & 8600M GT. My question is are these cards compatible with my computer, and are there any others? The Service Tag is <ADMIN NOTE:Service tag removed per privacy policy> - I am hoping that a Dell expert will respond to this cry for help, to compensate for the miserable response of the website to my attempts to find a replacement part, i.e. nix. Dell’s after-sales service for older computers is sub-standard, particularly regarding information it would cost them nothing to not delete. I am not going to buy Dell again for this reason!

Hello,

Please help. My dell xps 15 is freezing with an abnormal buzz sound while gaming. no keys are working then, have to shut down by holding down the power button. This happens only when gaming(till now). Its just out of warranty and the problems started. i cant understand the problem. did f12 diagnostics, but no error. please help. thanx in advance.

I'm looking to upgrade the ram on the newly released inspiron 11 3137. The laptop has one dimm slot that is also user accessible. It is currently only shipping with 2gb of ram. I realize the manual states it can support up to 4gb of ram, but has anyone tried adding a single 8gb stick?

It comes with win8 64 bit, and packs a recently released 4th gen haswell celeron. I'm thinking it may support an 8gb stick, but don't want to order without confirmation that someone has gotten it to work.

Hi all,

I've bought brand new M6700 as a replacement for my W500. 

It's 3740 with 32GB RAm  ,K4000M and IPS screen. I have noticed strange screen brightness behaviour:

How to recreate the problem:

1) Charge battery to full

2) Set (via bios, OS etc) minimum brightness for LCD for battery usage and maximum for AC power

    just to see brighness difference in those two modes

3) Connect AC plug and observe.

Result ( inproper behaviour):

Screen reduces brightness for battery level and after few seconds becomes bright as for AC power randomly without unplugging the AC.

Sometime you have to wait 3 min to notice the issue, and after that 3-4 blinks goes one by one in a period of 1min.

It happens on Ubuntu 12.04LTS, factory installed Win8 and ... Bios itself ( when notebook runs biost testing procedures).

Linux shows that there AC plug has been disconected (but it's realy still in place and lighting) for a short period of time (acpi event):

PS. By the way : Is your M6700 hot at the bottom so much that it's hard to work 

keepping it on thighs and do not risk egg's boiling :-) ?
