USB Port

Recently, (Sept 4, 2013) I had a service call by a Dell representative replace the motherboard and keyboard in my R17 5720 laptop. The work was done quickly and competently. After the work was done, the tech checked all USB ports for functionality by inserting the transmitter for my wireless mouse into each USB port. They all worked properly. After using the laptop for about 1 week, I had occasion to connect and external HDD to a USB port. I connected it to the single port with PowerShare. The external drive was not recognized. I tried another port and it worked normally. After further checks, I determined the PowerShare port to be no-functional. I ran a Google search and found this particular problem to be not unknown. One recommendation was to update the USB drivers. I checked on the Dell site for drivers and found mine to be up to date.

An additional confusion factor. I have a powered USB Hub which when connected to the PowerShare port works just fine???

Regards... Ray Heath

I have a ST tablet that I bought and hard drive failed and do not have recovery media.  I reinstalled Win 7 Pro that came with it and the drivers were available online.  However the software is not.  The Webcam will not work evidentally without this software.  My Dell Downloads says this tablet is not supported.  Dell is not willing to help me as this is out of warranty by 6 months.  All I want is to find a download of the correct Webcam Central that came with it or to buy a resource dvd that is for this unit.  I have tried every webcam central that I can find online and none work right.  Can anyone please advise or help?

Precision M90 Backlight problem

Hello !

I have Precision M90 with a wierd problem...

When the laptop is on battery, the screen is normal and the backlight works fine ! ( Some rare screen flickering happens)

When i plug the AC adapter in, after maybe 30 seconds of waiting, the backlight goes off ! I can still see the image but very very dark ( I have to use a flashlight to see)

I have checked every possible connections in the laptop for loose connection and everything was fine.

Could it be the inverter failing ? Would be wierd because it works without problems on battery !

Thanks for your help !

(IvyBridge- 3rd Gen ) - (Panther point - 7 series /C210)

after customer service changed a small board that contain 2 usb ports and lan port .

* all my usb , audio , communication and some other pci devices was being read as panther point , and after the customer service changed the board they all being read as 7 series/C210

* my VGA and some pci was being read as IvyBridge now they being read as 3rd gen .

1 : could the 3rd gen or the 7 series is the product name for the pieces which set to work with SandyBridge  ?

2 : does the old board contain the panther chip and the new board contain another chip ?

the model number on the ticket was not the same as my model number . so this may be not the best part for my laptop .

why a small board affect all other pieces .

3 :what is different between them . and what happened ?

here is some screen shots and then the laptop description

Inspiron 17R SE 7720 boot problems

Hello,

I've posted the below in another similar post, but thought it best to start a new thread in case the old one isn't monitored.

I am having an issue on my new inspiron 17R SE 7720. After re-booting or booting the pc, after the dell symbol on the screen, the screen goes totally blank (no backlighting, totally dead). I have to hard reset several times and hope for windows to boot (which it does eventually). It looks like a common problem for this model, is there a fix. I've tried updating bios, doing a full factory reset, running the F12 diagnostic at bootup all to no avail.

Can you help?

Best regards,
mark

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?

I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.

So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

Black screen Vostro 1720, also no VGA signal

Suddenly the Laptop would only show a black screen. I can see  the images under special light conditions and at a special angle , but that 's it.

I hooked it up to a VGA monitor and got no image either.  But when I restarted, I  got the Dell Logo screen on the VGA monitor a few times.  But as soon as it wanted to progress the signal was lost again.

(It showed the Bios version was 4 someting... and went away after 2-3 seconds.)

My laptop barely shows anything on the screen, only way to see it is to shine a flashlight at the screen. External display works fine.. I already changed the screen but it has the same problem. What else could it be? Thanks

Dell Studio 1749 powering up problems

Hi,

Just wondering if someone out there can help me.

I have a Studio 1749 and have been experiencing problems with powering my laptop up.

When I went to use my laptop on Friday I discovered it wouldn't switch on. I took the battery out and put it back in thinking the problem could be down to static. Anyway this fixed my problem. I had the same problem on Saturday and followed the same process without any luck. I have discovered though now the only way I can switch my laptop on is to turn it on before opening the cover (screen) only then will the laptop come on. If I try opening the cover and then switching it on it won't turn on.

This is very unusual and something I have never come across before. Before Friday my laptop worked ok and I could actually turn it on after opening the cover.

I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or can give me some help with solutions to try and fix the problem.

Thanks

James

Help!

Dell Studio 1558. Out of warranty.

My laptop restarted after installing some Windows updates, but never came back on. Now I can't switch it on at all and the power light is flashing red / white alternatively when I press the power button. I've read through a few posts and tried:

- unplugged and re plugged in power cable (it's the one that came with the laptop)

- disconnecting the battery and power cable and holding down the power button for 1 minute before reconnecting everything

- putting the battery in the fridge for a little bit!

Does anyone have any ideas for what I can do?

Many thanks.

[12 weeks now] Cypress confirmed Dell has an updated touchpad driver for the 15z...

So, you know we've all be stuck with this terrible driver for the XPS 15z touchpad, and Dell has been completely silent.

I just confirmed with Cypress that Dell has an updated driver for the 15z touchpad that works with Windows 8 and is supposed to fix all the current issues. This conversation happened about 2 weeks ago, and Dell had the driver before I contacted Cypress.

Hey Dell, RELEASE IT ALREADY!
