Hi! My old laptop is a Dell Latitude D430.It's original OS is Window Vista. It works fine for a few (2) years then it went blank.I don't have the CD of its OS so I bought a Window7 installer instead and have it reformatted. It opened, and I was able to use it again that time. Then a message appeared on the right low panel of the screen saying "This version of Windows is not genuine."I ignored it and went on yo use my laptop for 3 weeks to almost a month or so,on and off. Then one night,a message appeared on the screen after I turn it on and after the Windows Logo sign...it says: Error Loading Operating System. It won't open anymore. What could have happened?  Please help.

Cursor jumps around when typing

This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?

I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself. Sorry about all this running commentary on what's happening, but it was misbehaving before and now it's not.

Does anyone have any clues on this problem? While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.

I've tried all the things I can think of, I'm not super good with this stuff

On Thu 9/12/2013 9:06:25 PM GMT your computer crashed

^- this is what I got from WhoCrashed, but I can't find any updates for any wireless drivers, though one with that exact name isn't on the list...can anyone help? If you need more information, tell me what to get and how, the crashes seem to happen completely at random so I'm at a loss >:

I purchased a new Dell Inspiron 15 3521.  It has Windows 8 pre installed. I've had it for a wk now and I have tried to learn to use it and get use to it and I just can't stand it!  Is there a way to uninstall WIndows 8 and Install Windows 7?  Or do I just need to return this computer to the store where I purchased?   Thanks for any help!

Latitude e6540 and mSata advice please

$

Hello,  I will be recieving my e6540 and have a few questions that support was unable to answer in my online chat:

background preface:  The e6540 was not configurable at the time of purchase:  chip, RAM and Harddisk drive were not able to be customized.  the computer I recieved will have 8GB RAM and a slow 5400RPM drive.

I would like to install a mSATA drive and possibly replace the 5400rpm platter drive with an additional SSD drive.  Here are my questions that support couldnt answer:

1) Does the e6540 have a slot for the mSATA?  I believe it would be a WWAN slot and I know the computer isnt coming with a wireless card (so should be open if it has one)?  What data rate is this slot (SATA 3gb/s or SATA 6gb/s)?

 2)  Will installling a mSATA void the 3 year warranty I have purchased with my laptop?  I've never bought DELL before and I know some companies will immediatly void any warranty if the consumer opens up the computer.

3)  Similar to 2 above - If I chose to not install a mSATA and instead swap out the slow 5400 disk drive with a SSD drive - will the computer have the same warranty on the hardware (all except for the aftermarket SSD of course)?

4) Assuming DELL is ok with me adding a SSD or mSATA card (not voiding warranty on original hardware aside from the new Drive) - what is the easiest way to clone the DELL factory install onto the SSD so all hardware support and features are exactly the same on the SSD as it was on the factory 5400 platter drive? (all the remote assist software etc etc)

5) Maybe it's easier to just do a clean install in the SSD card - and then add all dell software/drivers than a clone?

sorry for so many questions - I just want to be sure I'm not going to be throwing a $200+ warranty I paid for out the door due to unintentionally voiding the warranty by adding an upgrade.  Dell support was very wishy washy and unclear on these specific questions.

Thank you for advice.

Kind regards, S

Wifi Driver Update

I have wifi driver R228308 installed on my Inspiron 1555 (after I just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled everything), this gives me ver 12.04.000 installed.  I then tried installing R246753 which is suppose to upgrade me to ver 13.00.000.  When it runs it asks me if I am sure that I want to upgrade and I say yes then I get another screen popup which says "This application must be installed using the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless installer.  This installation will exit."

Please tell me how I proceed to get ver 13 installed.

Need a new power cord

The power adapter on my XPS L502X is starting to get exposed wires on one end and I need to know where I can go for a replacement. The Dell store shows one but it's got a bunch of parts I don't need (car adapter, air adapter) and all I need is JUST the adapter, where should I look?

Switching Wireless Cards - Latitude E6540

Latitude E6540 came stock with Intel Advanced-N 6235 (2x2) card (w/ Bluetooth 4.0).  I don't NEED Bluetooth, so I want to change wireless cards to an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 (3x3) wireless card.

It SHOULD NOT be a BIOS wireless networking card white-list problem, as the Intel Ultimate-N 6300 is spec'd for some Latitude E6540 machines, and there is a DELL-supplied driver package for it.

Here is the link to the driver:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/555/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6540-laptop?driverId=WPPGM&osCode=W764&fileId=3278136796&languageCode=en&categoryId=NI

I uninstalled (w/ delete drivers) the Intel Advanced-N 6235 and ProSet wireless; shut down and removed the card; cold rebooted to make sure everything was gone.

Installed the 6300 card, booted up and TRIED to install the Dell package... The package is giving me the following error:

Installation Blocked, This software package cannot be installed on your system. Please resolve these errors and retry installation.

Any ideas!?

Dell Inspiron 5720 - Windows 8 won't boot up

I have a new Inspiron 5720 (bought in January 2013).  For a month or more I have had a problem getting it to boot up past the "Dell" screen.  It would go to a black screen and if I press "enter" it shows "F12 boot options."  So, for the past while when this would happen I would press the power button and power off and then power back on.  It would always boot up normally the second go round.  However, tonight it only boots to this black screen and will not go past.  This product is still under warranty but I hate to take the time to get a new one.  I am in graduate school and want to avoid a "reset" if possible as I have lots of work saved on the hard drive.  Thanks for any help on resolving this issue.

XPS 17 USB port issue

Hi,

Last December I bought a Dell XPS 17 laptop. The only issue I have had with it is that the USB ports at the back sometimes do not work or work for a short period and then i need to restart my computer to get them working again.  The ports on the side of the laptop always work. It is only the ones at the back that have the issue.

i have tried updating to the latest USB drivers downloadable from DELL but the problem persists.

My laptop is still under warranty.

Thanks in advance.

Inspiron 17R SE (7720) - GT650M Graphics Card NOT WORKING

Dell have been working on a fix for several weeks/months for the issue where the Nvidia graphics card either vanishes completely or randomly disappears requiring a reboot to get it recognised by the system

Original post http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19498450.aspx?PageIndex=1

According to @dellcares the Product Team are actively working on a permanent solution - my direct conversations with @dellcares on twitter are now over two weeks long. There is still no guaranteed ETA on a remedy.

The list of people with this faulty laptop seems to be growing daily - probably because Dell are still selling it, knowing it has a major problem.

Please add your name to this post if you are the owner of this laptop or a similar laptop which is suffering with a vanishing Nvidia GT650M.

The hard drive went bad on my Inspiron 1545 and nothing was able to be recovered.  I purchased a new hard drive:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B99JU5M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and am trying to install Windows Vista and drives with the disks that came with my Inspiron 1545 when I purchased it,  but it can't find the hard drive to write it to....

I've had to do this in the past, but at that time it was under warranty and the hard drive was replaced at no cost and came right from Dell.

How do I load my operating system  & drivers to the new hard drive?

I am looking to purchase a Latitude E6540 laptop. Intel lists the 4th Gen Mobile CPU's as being able support up to 32GB of RAM, will the E6540 support this much RAM? Dell does not offer it as a option but am wondering if 3rd party memory will allow this configuration.

Driver of Inspiron 14R N4110 for Windows 7 32-bit

Good day!

I have been looking at your website support and it seems that you don't support drivers of Inspiron 14R N4110 for Windows 7 32-bit. Where can I find drivers for this? Or are your laptops limited only to 64-bit operating systems?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks

Dell E6400

I give up. Windows ZP Pro SP2 apparently will not work on my e6400, at least I can't figure out how. I got the wireless to work OK, but there are ni Audio or Video drivers for XP, only Vixta and Windows 7. If anyone has had any luck with XP, let me know. The next question I have is does anyone know if Windows 8 will work on an E6400, or do I need to upgrade to a new PC?

Bob
