I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing.  Over several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only three days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.

<ADMIN NOTE: This comment was removed as solicitous in nature.> These were both brand new computers with the exact same issue.  Is Dell simply incapable of making a decent computer any more?  I used to love Dell; this was my fifth Dell computer, but maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

Hello all,

I am a dummy at all this, and would be glad for your help! Yesterday i had a pop up reminder from dell for system updates for my dell inspiron 15 5000 laptop. I agreed to installation, after updates were installed the the computer kept freezing, then it shut down, I got a message saying the system was being scanned and repaired, then I continued to have issues - unable to type anything, click on anything, then after sometime it seemed to unfreeze and I could access programs etc again. 

The installation was a BIOS upgrade, but I also noticed  ADM installer manager software was also installed during that upgrade. Is this usual? is this software ok?

Any advice very welcome, many thanks!!

After a month of use, the touch screen of my Inspiron 13 5000 series no longer works.

Initially, when I restarted the computer it would work again. But now this doesn't help anymore.

I went to settings > connected devices >device manager > human interface devices > HID compliant touch screen and it says "This device is working properly." I disabled and then enabled again the device but nothing changed. 

Is there anything else I should do?

Hi i have laptop model Inspiron 3552 i bought it last month and in the first month it's working fine but on the first week of the second month i have seen i tiny dot on the screen and i asked the store where i bought it and they said it was a dead pixel does defective screen covers the warranty?

After clean installing Windows 10 version 1607 build 14393  I got the following in the updates history :

Intel - Other hardware - Intel(R) 8 Series SMBus Controller - 9C22

Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

both failed to install nevertheless other updates and cumulative software were installed successfully .

In the Device Manager I find those drivers installed in their places but for the first there is no way I can know whether I have the latest version or not.

Plus there are some more pci bridges which when they get updated from the Device Manager they change name and move upwards .

How do I handle this? Shall I force update all those drivers in the System Devices category or just leave everything as it is now in the screenshot?

All the above in a dell inspiron 15 3542 2104 running windows 10 64-bit.

Hi there

I'm wondering how to approach this problem. When I use the default setting of "tap in lower-right corner to right click", the area it uses for the bottom right actually uses the majority of the touchpad. I end up with the left most 1cm being left click and the other 10cm being right, which isn't usable.

I have tried switching to 2-finger tap for right click but a number of programs don't seem to register it correctly (I think that's a win 10 issue), and also at random restarts the touchpad will act as though this is disable and its settings are all default, despite not being in the actual settings menu (again a win 10 issue?)

Is there a specific driver I can use to improve the touchpad behaviour or gain more control? Is there anything I can do to change the size of the right click width so it only takes up half?

Hi, my dell xps 9333 won't turn on. LED and keyword backlight switch on for a moment (less than a second) and then everything turns off. I tried to press Fn key while pressing switch on button, but same thing happens. I do not get any acoustic signal. Can you help me?

Hello,

I am trying to find similar information like this ( http://www.dell.com/support/Article/us/en/bebsdt1/SLN80373/EN ) about the Latitude E5570 laptop.

Tests show that the TPM is locked after 15 incorrect PIN entries but the lockout period is indefinit. So we need to manually reset the lockout period using the TPM owner password. I was wondering if this behavior could be modified to for example a lockout period of 8 hours.

Hi,

I have a DELL XPS i7 (don't know any more information, because there's nothing written on it, except "DELL" and "XPS" on the bottom). It came with Windows 7 Home Edition. I changed from RAID to AHCI in bios, then I got a bluescreen and after rebooting it doesn't start anymore. I can't acces the bios or anything else for that matter.

The backlight of the screen turns on and off intermittently along with the keyboard lights.

Anything I can do about it other than taking it to service. It's brand new. I don't understand how a laptop can behave like that

Hello,

We are doing local IT Support and we would like to install the newest BIOS all  the time when we are having the notebooks on our side. 

A colleague of mine will have to look on every single product site of each laptop we use and it will take a big time to crosscheck our lists with the product pages.

Is there a list/summary of all current Laptops/Desktops BIOS Versions which will get updated all the time?

Hi,

I am going to be travelling with my M7510 and so I want to get a combination cable lock, but looking around there seem to be comments that only certain ones work with the Dell laptops?

Can anyone tell me which one would work with the M7510?  FYI, I'm considerring one of the Kensington combination cable locks, maybe the "Ultra" one.

Just bought my laptop.  I had to lower the resolution from 4k to 1980 to run some of my graphic programs.  That part works great.  But every time I turn on the laptop it starts with the 1980 resolution than flips to what looks like a 690 resolution for a few seconds than flips back to the 1980 resolution. Any way to stop this or did I set something wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place for this topic, but I'm posting it here in the hope that someone at Dell will raise this with the right person.

I've been desperately trying to buy an Alienware Graphics Amplifier from www.dell.com.au, but when I search for the product and click on the search result (the link I get is accessories.dell.com/.../productdetail.aspx, I get a product not found error page.

I raised this with support through online chat, but they told me to contact the parts department via phone. I then spent over 20 minutes getting bounced around different departments before I gave up.

Has the Alienware Graphics Amplifier been discontinued or is this just a bug in the site?

Please help.

Hello,

Good afternoon, only three years after you repaired my computer for the 7 beep issue, the same problem has reappeared.  As I guessed you used new parts for the repair it is unacceptable that the same issue has occurred in so short a space of time.

As the repair has not worked, and you have been aware of this issue for sometime, I am now requesting that you replace my laptop with one of a similar spec.  This is obviously a manufacturing issue judging by the number of complaints on here, so I will not accept that as an answer.

If you do now respond within 3 working days I will pass my complaints onto  the newspapers, the computing press and Which.

I have a Inspiron 5458 laptop and the power button is stuck in a down position.  It was working fine last night, but when I arrived at school this morning the button was depressed and is not popping back up regardless of what I try to do. What should my next step be?

I will be replacing the replacement, due to a fall (cracked screen) and already changed the video cable when I upgraded the screen for full hd, but I'd like to make sure how many pins (30? 40?) and, if possible, brand recommendations, please.

I have a Vostro 3550 (Win 7 Professional 64 bit) that I purchased in 2011. It has been a very reliable laptop until a few days ago. Now the laptop does not turn and it does not show any power on the indicator light on the front. The power adapter shows that it has power. Just in case there was something wrong with the battery that was preventing the laptop from starting, I removed the battery and re-attached the power cord. Still no power and the laptop didn't start. I reinstalled the battery and tried to restart it. No luck again. I tried to power it up with 3 other power adapters I have (2 OEM & 1 aftermarket) and still no luck getting it to start/boot. So I am pretty sure my adapters are okay and feel it must be something with the laptop itself. Dell said that I could send it to them to diagnose but they would charge me $200 for the diagnosis. 

Even though it had been a very good machine, I am not sure that I want to spend a lot of money on it because it is so old. Does anyone have any easy suggestions of things I can try to see if I can get it to start and boot? I would appreciate any and all suggestions so that I don't have to go out and buy a new machine with Windows 10.
