I have a DELL XPS 15 9550 and a soundcard (Focusrite Saffire LE) which connects through Firewire 800 to the computer. I can not find any way to connect it to the Thunderbold 3 input of the Dell laptop. Apple has released an adapter with female firewire 800 but male thunderbolt "2"...

Any solutions?

Inspiron 2 in 1 crashed post recent Windows 10 update

Hi,

As the title suggests, there was a mandatory update to the OS. Post which my Inspiron started well. However, a few hours later blanked out. upon trying to reboot the message came on to the screen that the update has caused your system to behave the way it was behaving.

I tried to follow the onscreen instructions to reboot and roll back the changes. However, to my surprise the on screen diagnostics showed that there is no hard disk connected. Ho hum!!!!

I had a factory back up stored on a flash drive, when i inserted the flash drive it loaded for a while and then there was a low disk space error flashing on the screen... this caused me to panic... as now the only good way to get my factory settings look bleak...

Any help here will be appreciated...

Thanks!

Differential charging speeds on USB ports - Inspiron 7548

$

Hello

I have an Inspiron 7548 laptop with two USB 3.0 ports (one with PowerShare) and one USB 2.0 port.

I have tried charging my iPhone 6 in "Low Power Mode" with an Apple cable at several instances from all the 3 ports and found the following average rates of charging (with 3G ON and almost no usage):

USB 2.0 port - ~1%/2min
USB 3.0 port - ~1%/2min
USB 3.0 port with PowerShare - ~1%/1min

My question is - is it possible to achieve similar charging current on the other USB 3.0 port? Since USB 3.0 is capable of providing up to 900mA, can I somehow get it to pump this much current by some driver/software manipulation?

Extra information:

I am aware of some adapters which can force higher current out of a USB port - is it possible that they may actually damage the port? (assuming that the port is not configured to provide higher current as per its driver)

While I found an average of ~1%/2min for charging on all USB ports (two 3.0 and one 2.0 with PowerShare) on my previous laptop XPS 15 L502X, in Inspiron I can distinctly see one port charging the phone at twice the rate.

I suppose that only one port is providing 900mA, while others give only 500mA. I checked the controller for the ports on HWiNFO64 and found all the 3 ports coming from the same controller USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller (on Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft)), which also happens to have Wi-Fi adapter, touchscreen adapter installed on it, as per HWiNFO64.

Also, I checked on the Device Manager and it doesn't tell me the "Total Power Available" on the power tab for this hub - this hub doesn't even have a power tab in its properties window.

My system specs are-Intel Core i7-5500U; 16GB RAM; Radeon R7 M270 4GB;

I am also attaching a screenshot of the HWiNFO64's USB tab - there under USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller:

Port 1=USB 3.0 port with PowerShare

Port 2=USB 3.0 port

Port 3=USB 2.0 port

Any ideas you might have about this are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Regards,

RS

Hi,

I recently bought a new battery for my laptop Inspiron-15 N5010. But the battery stops to charge after about 89% and in the notification i see that it says "89%available(plugged in, not charging)" . What could be the possible reasons?? I set the settings in POWER OPTIONS to default also.

PS: I bought original battery only with original dell seal and packet. But I bought it in Snapdeal online E-commerce site.

XPS 13 9360 - Which battery plan?

Hello guys

I just got my new XPS 13 today and I love it, allthough it didn't ship with 2333 MHz RAM as I thought. It seems Dell changed it in the last moment before shipping my computer.

I don't know what to do with the battery. My old desktop had this batteri saver-plan, were it would charge the battery to 60 pct. and then use the AC-charger. But this feature doesn't seem to be present on my XPS 13?

I tried an app called Dell Command Power Manager, but it doesn't seem to work. Should it?

Thanks :-)

Oh and btw: can I fix the mousepad lag? It's really annoying.

XPS 15 (9550) i7 6700HQ never reaches 3.5GHz

Although the i7 6700HQ CPU is rated to run up to 3.5GHz on Turbo Boost, I don't ever see it go over 3.2GHz.  Is that normal for the XPS 15 9550?  What do others see?  Is the max speed limited by the BIOS (on version 1.2.0 A6)?

Dell XPS 13 9360 USB ports strange behaviour

Got my XPS 13 9360 today & noticed odd USB behaviour, namely that the 2 ports are behaving very differently. Dell tech support can't find a solution so whilst they work on it I'm curious if anyone else has this. Odd behaviour as follows:

1) Trying to create recovery media with 16GB flash drive - when plugged into right hand USB the recovery creator says "drive must be at least 16GB" & NEXT button is greyed out. If I try again & de-select 'back up system files to recovery drive" I get a similar message but saying "drive must be at least 512MB" & again the NEXT button is greyed out.

(I appreciate that a 16GB drive only has 14.8GB useable capacity but the 2nd option only needs 512MB!)

When plugged into left hand port, recovery creator detects the same 16GB no problem & NEXT button is available to start creating recovery media.

2) When USB flash drive & a Sandisk Extreme 500GB is connected to righ hand port, there is no Autoplay pop up. But when plugged into left hand port, AutoPlay pop up appears & makes usual noise.

3) There is no 'safely remove USB' icon in task bar when either drive is plugged into right hand port, but when plugged into left hand port, the icon is there.

For both ports though, USB drive is shown in 'My PC' & able to read/write files.

Any thoughts really appreciated! Thanks :)

Dell Inspiron 15 3521 will not turn on, with charger in, and lights just flash on and off

So i have a dell inspiron 15 3521, about a year ago, it started turning on, but wouldn't charge. Then, the battery completely died and it wouldn't turn on. Also, when i plugged the charger in, the light on the charger unit turned on then off. I then proceeded to buy a new battery and charging unit. It turned on perfectly and worked well, but the battery wouldnt charge, and when the battery's charge was all out, it would start up, show the windows loading screen for 30-60 seconds and then mysteriously power off. (Same result with battery+charger in) When i tried turning it on with just the charger in, the front indicator lights would turn on for a few seconds, then turn back off. I tried getting rid of the static built up by pressing the power button down for 30 seconds, but no progress. I know that the outlet is working perfectly, the battery works well, just doesnt have a charge, and has been cleaned. I think the problem is either with the laptop not accepting power (for lack of better words) or the charger not producing enough power. All help is appreciated, and needed... Thank you! :)

XPS 13 9350 Touch Screen Not working

Hi all,

I have an XPS13 9350 which I purchased in July 2014.  It's an i7 processor and was bought with touchscreen.

For some months I had not used the touch screen until a few weeks ago.  However, when I tried to use the touch screen I found it no longer worked.  On investigation I found that Dell diagnostics didn't even recognise that I had a touch screen.

I have done extensive research online but have found no solution.  I have tried the HID power management process to no avail.  In control panel I have no Pen and Touch icons so I assume Windows cannot see the touch screen either.

I have read that this issue is related to Windows 10 so it shows that it must be over a year since I last tried to use the touch screen.  Obviously I don't use it a lot but it is annoying that the laptop is not working as specified.

Is anyone able to help?

7470 randomly beeps and clicks during hardware test

Have a 7470 and it seems to randomly beep and occasionally hear a clicking sound on it.  Even while i'm running the hardware tests it randomly beeps.  is something wrong with this laptop?  or instance, the hard drive test is running from the boot diagnostics, and it is just randomly beeping during it, not the usual noises you get during a hardware test.  even when booted into Windows it randomly makes beeps.

XPS 14 (L421x) C: drive is only 32GB - no remaining space

I have just acquired a Dell XPS 14 (L421x).  It appears to be unused as there is no software other than the Win7 x64 O/S.
* C: drive is a 32 gig SSD (physical drive 1).  The C: drive contains all the operating directories (Windows, Program Files, Users, etc).  It is almost full with about 400MB remaining.
* D: drive is a 500 gig SATA (physical drive 0).  The D: drive is empty with 500GB remaining.

When I tried to install software (Office 2016), there was not enough space available (surprise!).  I can't imagine that this drive configuration is factory-original, but I'm unsure of how to proceed.  Do I need to do a factory-restore using the 500GB drive as the C: drive?  Is that even an option with a factory restore?

We have an optiflex 780 that is (was) running windows 7.  It is not able to boot and appears that the partioning needs to be re set/recovered.   We have been trying to obtain a windows 7 32bit recovery disk from dell technical/sales but have been unsuccessful.  Does anyone have a suggestion besides buying a new os?

My screen has this really weird glitch when I touch the mouse pad

Please excuse me as my knowledge on computers is very limited.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron second hand. The person who sold it to me has no knowledge or doesn't want to tell me what's wrong with it. A few minutes after you power it on and start using the touchpad it will sometimes glitch. The screen will go grey and there will be lines. If I stop using the touchpad for a few minutes it will go away. But it continues to do it randomly every few minutes.

I would really like to know what is wrong with it and how I fix it. I know that it has been dropped as there is a chip in the corner under the keypad.

Dell inspiron 5558 crawling boot

Upon resuming from hibernation the laptop started disk check and repair. Then desktop loaded but it became sluggish and eventually unresponsive. After a Hard boot (long press power key) it takes 20 mins or so to boot and eventually doesn't reach login screen or when it does it seems to hang at random stages. Sometimes I'm able to do a login after being patient but the desktop screen  is highly unresponsive invariably requires hard boot.  Please suggest things i can try. Thanks
