Dell Latitude E5570 Undocking Problems freezes- 4 beeps-pause-1 beep

Hi there,

We have recently purchased (last month) a Latitude E5570 with docking station. We experience system hangs and freezes several seconds, sometimes up to a minute after hot undocking the laptop.  The mouse and keyboard become unresponsive.

It usually emits a beep code before freezing up.  4 beeps then a pause and then 1 beep. Any information regarding this?

Anyone have insights into this?

Thanks!

Supply chain issues with OLED and RGB LED displays?

0
0

It seems the Alienware 13 with OLED display is currently not in stock, nor is the Precision 17-inch with 4K PremierColor display.  These features are both marketed prominently on their product pages.  Similarly for HP, their flagship ZBook 17 G3 shipped initially without the 4K DreamColor, which was offered a few months later ...

Just wondering, with these high-end displays, what is the supply chain difficulty?

Could it be a case of Apply blocking other vendors' supply chains, to cut off legitimate claim that other vendors offer the best-looking screens?  Or are these unique parts truly so difficult to manufacture to acceptable quality standards?

Maybe the problem is demand much higher or lower than anticipated.  However, that would not explain the initial delay HP announced for rolling out the feature on their models.

Inspiron 7537 - Fan not spinning

The fan of my Inspiron 7537 is not spinning anymore. Suddenly it stopped, while it was at the maximum since 5 minutes because of the usage of Nvidia GPU for a game. The Diagnostic tool of the bootloader report a problem with the fan.

What could be the problem?

Dell holding my laptop hostage

I'm so annoyed I could spit -

My laptop cracked while I was closing the lid. Apparently a design flaw that Dell knows about and won't cover. Fine, I paid $170 to have it repaired - back in late september. It's still just sitting there in the repair center.

First - I was told I would have to pay more than the $170 I paid. No way in *** I said, ship it back. Then the guy said he reversed the charges and would ship it back.

Second - Nothing happen, spoke to another employee who told me the first lied to me and they still have my laptop, although I wouldn't have to pay more. They were just waiting on a part. Ok I said.

Third - Was called and said the parts have come in, I should have my laptop back in a few days.

Fourth - A few days go by, I get a phone call from yet another moron who tells me that we're still waiting on parts.

I have the most common laptop body probably being sold at dell. What the *** is going on?

Ghosting a Precision 3510 Laptop

I know Dell has an imaging solution, but it doesn't work for our needs, as we need a sector based solution. Here is my problem:

In order for ghost to recognize the drive, I had to change the boot sequence from UEFI to Legacy.

I've had to do that on Lenovo's, as well as a few other tweaks, and then booting to ghost with an -ib or -id switch (depending on the Lenovo model). After I create or restore an image, I have to change the boot sequence back to UEFI after the image was created/restored. Doing that works perfectly on the Lenovo ... but not on the Dell.

Does anyone know what I need to do use ghostcast on a Dell Precision 3510?

Thanks,

Jackie

Another 5547 hinge failure

Same exact failure.  Dell wants $160 to fix it.  No damage, just over a year old.  Clearly a design defect. I'm not paying $160 to fix some plastic that's just going to break the next time I open the laptop.  I don't think I'll be buying another Dell laptop either.

How to best purchase RAM upgrade?

0

It seems like nobody does this anymore. First I went to the Dell support website, entered my service tag and went to Parts and accessories. That all made sense and I thought this would be a simple 10 minute process to get the correct chips my laptop needed. There are so many different memory chips available, plus they seem to be changing all the time and not being a computer expert by any means, I was happy to see "Memory" listed as a category filter for my service tag search. Unfortunately all the joy left when it return three solid state drives and nothing to do with any memory chips. Can someone please tell me WHY would Dell not list them anywhere (spent another half hour looking) in Parts and accessories for your service tag???  How can we be sure they are the correct chips? I've joined and login and can search but under RAM memory there are too many different while very similar chips listed that may or may not fit the description under my service tag.

Next I tried a chat session thinking I could get someone to verify before purchase. It said "You are now being connected to an agent..." but a half hour went by and no agent typed one word. After an hour I started asking if they were having lunch and eventually someone came on. I had already moved on and started staining my back deck. Forget about Dell support, and the laptop will stay as it is - a new Inspiron 5559  that is slower than my 9 year old desktop. This used to work so easy in the past.

e4310 bios

Okay, so i'm an idiot.  I was upgrading an e4310.  Apparently I had not (as is my habit) named the computer with the svc tag.  The svc tag (computername) was for an e6410 so I downloaded and flashed the e4310 (that had a14 bios) with the e6410 a16 bios.  Computer is now dead.  I did not stick around but after launch of a16 file, the system shut down and looked like it was doing the flash as I have seen a hundred times.  I now get no POST.  With battery out and charger only, the power button flashes on for about 5sec>off 500ms>5sec continuoulsly with wifi light solid.  Other than that, nothing.  I pulled the cmos batt, pressed and held the power button for 20sec and re-tried.  NADA.  Is there any way to force bios to a previous version.  No problem breaking down laptop to the bones and I do have a soldering iron.  I have come close to this before but the "wrong" bios update caught my mistake by looking at the system before.  Any help greatly appreciated.  I sincerely hope I haven't bricked this machine.

Latitude Re-Image Guide A19 errors...

Hey guys.  I dunno if anyone else here uses it, but when I'm re-imaging Dell Latitude laptops, I follow your Dell Business Client Re-Image "How-To" Guide religiously.  It has helped me set up systems that, using my own experience and intuition, would have strange bugs and things like that happening - so thank you for that.

Nonetheless, I couldn't help but notice some strange errors, at least in the section of the guide that I use frequently.  On page 9:

  1. The bullet point right after "Audio - Enables and enhances the audio controller" contains no information, and...
  2. The bullet point (and sub-bullet points) right after "Intel Storage controller" contain no information.  That's weird.  You guys should fix that, it's unprofessional.

I'll post more as I find them.  Thanks for the guide!  You guys rock.

dell refusing to honor their warranty

Just like the numerous other posts on this website, I too have had a faulty hinge on my laptop. I contacted customer support and was told it was not a manufacturing defect. I explained to them that it occurred while opening the lid as per normal operation.

I spoke to the supervisor and again was told that it was an accidental damage. I explained that the customer support person did not make the laptop and are not responsible for it failing. It was dell a big corporation that made the faulty product and should honor their warranty that they gave when I purchased the laptop. Again I was told I was lying and that the damage was accidental damage because the laptop model was not known to have a manufacturing defect.

I then asked to speak to the regional manager but was only given to tier 3 support. I explained to the person behind the phone that there was numerous customers complaining about this problem on dell's website and I expect them to honor their warranty. He also was afraid to lose his job by honoring the warranty and refuse to acknowledge the manufacturing defect that is so clearly a defect it is baffling to hear otherwise.

I proceeded to make a BBB complaint and was followed up not on the BBB website but through another phone call from the SAME tier 3 support agent. This made me nervous and I am going to contact a *** regarding this peculiar customer support practices. And no surprise they repeated the aforementioned argument of accidental damages.

I urge everyone who has been through this circus act to do the same. Make a complaint with the BBB and they will start looking into dell's business practices.

My laptop specs:

Dell Inpiron 15

model: I5558-2148BLK

Hard Drive short test unsuccessful on a an Inspiron 15 3000 Series

My laptop will not boot, the screen comes on and the dell logo is there and the lights flash around the like it's trying to boot and then it goes dark and that's it.  When I check the setup it can find the hard drive, it lists it by the HDD.  When I run diagnostics it fails with short test unsuccessful.  I have reseated the hard drive and tried to reboot,  but it is not working.  I'd like to run chkdsk /r from the command console like I saw in one of the possible solutions, but I don't know how to get to the command console.  I'm thinking I need a new hard drive but I would like to try everything to save this one first.

LOW FPS DELL INSPIRON 7559 W/O BATTERY

Hi, i have an Inspiron 15 7559. Last week my battery  was damaged and can't use it anymore, since then I have low fps while gaming (gta v, witcher 3, etc.), I've read there is a kind of throttling when there is no battery, maybe the turbo boost is not being enabled.

Is there a way I can make the laptop work again like before, I can't buy a new battery yet because I live in Peru and is hard to find this battery model.

Can only burn CD/DVD in safe mode

I have a Dell Precision M 4700 with Windows 7.  If I burn a CD it will start and never stop.  I have to turn the unit off as shutdown will not complete and the CD will not eject.  The CD I attempted to burn is unreadable and cannot be burned again.  It will work most of the time in safe mode.  When burning CDs in safe mode no longer works I have to uninstall the drive in device manager and reboot.  The drive has been replaced and Windows reinstalled.  It worked to burn a few CDs after these changes and then returned to the broken behavior.  I have used Roxio 12 and ImgBurnas well as different brands of media with identical performance.  The behavior is no different with an external USB CD/DVD drive.

Thank you for your time.

How can i purchase a replacement for Dell Precision M3800 laptop.  Mine is 2.5 years old and seems to be defective in that it has curled up and lifted so much that it no longer adheres properly making it impossible to right click.  I purchased two of these at the same time and the other one is fine.  I would like to repair this myself if i can purchase the replacement part.

Is my Chromebook 11 (3120) unrepairable?

Hi

I've followed the google.com/chromeos/recovery process but it always returns to the "ChromeOS is missing or damaged" screen.

Does this mean the flash storage itself is damaged and unrepairable/ unreplaceable?

Needless to say, it's out of warranty.

Thanks in advance for your help -- Jason.

Can I use a Latitude battery in my Inspiron?

0
0

I ran the battery down in my Inspiron 5720 while I was working away, and in desparation swapped it for the battery from my Latitude E6540 so I could continue working. To my surprise this works just fine. It charges normally and the laptop reports the battery percentages normally. Since the Latitude battery has a higher capacity than the Inspiron battery I get a longer battery life as well.

So my question is can I carry on using the Latitude battery or will it damage my Inspiron?

The Latitude battery model number is N3X1D while the original Inspiron battery is an 8858X. The batteries are physically identical.

Single-surface Touchpad temperamental with right-clicking, Inspiron 5555

0

My single-surface touchpad is exasperating and I would never buy this model if I knew... Much of the time, a right-click behaves simply as a left click. For instance, a multiple hits Google search page disappears and becomes simply the one selection I'd intended to "open in new tab" from the customary drop-open submenu, which fails to appear upon right-clicking a hit.

Also, right-clicking a highlighted block of text often simply removes the highlighting instead of providing a drop-open submenu for "copy" or "cut" or the like.

I'm trying to get in the habit of substituting two-finger taps for right clicks, but that choice is unreliable and fails rather often.

Dell ought to be all over this, but improved drivers haven't been offered.  Short of resigning myself to using an external mouse on a table top (not exactly why we wanted a laptop with touchpad in the first place), is there anything I can do to improve this temperamental touchpad's performance?  I've done my best with settings; nothing corrects the performance problem described here.
