Dell Studio 1555 Motherboard

Hi,

Can you help me with the Motherboard type on my Dell Studio 1555 ?

Also I have one more question, I am experiencing No booting issues with my laptop .. which sometimes starts after Multiple restarts. However last time it was just not starting so I kind of pressed multiple buttons on Laptop which resulted in several beeps. Firstly there were some beeps followed with 2 beeps of different sound thereafter I am getting only 6 beeps in continuation.

Now the 2nd interesting thing is I don't get beeps all the time ... so far I have got them twice. Currently my laptop wont start & is neither giving any beeps for example.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

WiFi with Dell Inspiron 1525

Hi community:

I have reinstalled the OS (Windows Vista 32 Bit) with the Reinstallation DVD. Everything seems to be OK except for the wifi. I couldn't manage to get wifi activated. However, with a LAN-cable internet is working. I have already tried all drivers from the dell website however none of them solved the problem. I also know that there is that switch at the front right side of the laptop and wifi is turned on. At least there is this wifi symbol on the screen when moving that switch. I have also installed Dell Quick Set in order to make that switch working.

I really have no clue how to solve that problem. Any ideas from your side?

Thank you so much in advance.

Dell Inspiron N7110 boot problem.. 2 beeps and the fan only..

Thanks to ejn for his help on my last question.. I have another one and hope we can sort it out.. Thanks in advance...

My Dell N7110 is booting to 2 quick short beeps along with the fan starting.. If you leave it on, it will cycle and repeat the 2 beeps after 15 seconds or so and will continue that cycle until you shut it off.. 2 beep code says RAM not recognized or needs to be reseated, or bad sockets, right? Not this time.. I've tried reseating the RAM (2 x 4GB DIMMS), I've tried swapping the sticks between socket A&B, I've removed 1 stick and tried just the other, I've tried the latter in both sockets. Nothing, still 2 beeps.. I've tried 4 different "new" RAM sticks in all of the above combinations that I listed, (2 x 2GB DIMMS) (2 X 1GB DIMMS)  Nothing, still 2 beeps... I even went the extra mile and ordered a brand new motherboard from Dell (yes, I love this laptop) and after installing it and reassembling, guess what? It boots to 2 beeps.... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Returned the Dell motherboard and waited for a replacement... It arrived, and guess what? Rinse and repeat... Boots to 2 beeps...

I'm at a loss here... Has anyone ever seen or heard of this unique problem? If so, what's the fix?  Is it possible that I've got 3 bad motherboards or worse 6 bad sticks of RAM? I've unplugged as many of the peripherals as possible, but still the same...

I'm open to ideas...

Inspiron M5030 7 beeps over and over, no boot

My wife was surfing the net and watching TV last night when her Inspiron M5030 got the blue screen of death.  There have been no other errors or performance issues until now.  When she tried to reboot, the laptop just gave 7 loud beeps over and over.  Followed the suggestions found elsewhere in this forum, disconnected the power cord, removed battery, held start button down for 30 secs, tried to reboot, but got the same result.

After browsing this forum I've found a lot of people have had the 7 beeps on start up issue with the M5030.  I've had really good experience with Dell over the past 8 years, so it's sad to see so many bad comments about them here.  In my company, if there's a known problem you just do the right thing, period.

The warranty is up so does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks,

Jim

Hello. I have had this laptop for 2 years and have never had a problem. I went to start it up today and it started beeping 7 times. I went online to see if anyone els had this problem and it seems there has been alot of the same problems. I took the advise I seen on this site and took the battery out and the static power source and pressed the power button for 30 seconds. This did start up a 'startup fixing solution' and did try and fix it but the screen went blank and nothing els happened. I tried again and it gave me the option to restore the laptop but this done the same thing and the screen went black. Also before these options it gave me an option to start windows normally which done the same thing. I have just tried taking the battery out again and pressing the Button for 30 seconds and it has gone back to the 7 beeps with a blank screen. Any suggestions would be great full! Thanks

M6500 Maximum Memory / Specs for same

Recently picked up a Precision M6500 with an i5 - 520m CPU. It has two DIMM slots which currently have 2 x 2GB DDR3 @ 1066mhz ram in them.

I am wanting to max out the memory in this machine, but I have read several different specifications as to what the maximum memory actually can be.

It seems that the higher M6500's with Quad processors can do 4 x.8GB DIMMS since they have 4 DIMM slots (instead of 2), and they can handle 1600mhz and 1333mhz memory.

However, the lower level CPUs like the i5-520m can only handle 2 x 4GB DIMMS at 1333mhz or lower.

Is this accurate or is it possible to get 2 x 8GB (for 16GB) of memory in this machine?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Long Delivery Times

I ordered my Alienware 17, basic $1500 option, for the specific reason of not wanting to wait obscene amounts of time for a custom laptop. I ordered 9/05 and assumed I'd be getting it the week after (9/9-9/13) But I had called Dell for curiosities sake and I was told my EDD was 10/28. That's 7 weeks for the BASIC LAPTOP. I mean, I ordered it for school, which has already started, and made a point not to order anything else off the site, I even opted to buying softwares at Future Shop so it wouldn't take longer to ship. And even through all of this I still have to wait 7 weeks, all of which I'm going to be in school, while needing my laptop for homework and for my New Media course. I also went and bought a few games in lieu of getting a rig that can play games that arent 20 fps on all low settings. So I need it for school, spent money on software, made a point to only get the basic option so I don't have to wait longer than I have to, even when certain options suited my needs. And I still have a 7 week wait. I mean come on, this is ridiculous. It's school season and they didn't get a stock on atleast their basic choices. DEFINITELY not happy right now, and probably won't order another laptop from Alienware or Dell again. Really not a happy camper.

Ram in Vostro 3450

How exactly do you access the ram slots on a Vostro 3450? Are they both located on the bottom of the laptop, or is one under the keyboard like in other Dell laptops? Do you have to take the hole bottom pannel off to get to the ram slots?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1750, the surface of the touchpad started wearing down in the areas where I use them most (the center area). It's like the protective rough bumpy surface has been worn down and smooth. The pad still works perfectly but when running your finger over it it is creating friction to the point where it rub the finger raw.

Is there something I can place over it from Dell or other co that will stop this.  Right now I have to use a small drop of baby oil once  a day to stop the fraction.

Touchpad on Dell Studio 1737 disabled when on AC power

I have just experienced this issue on my Dell 1737 using an after market charger. I'm at a friend's rural home for a labor day party. Last year at the same party my Dell OEM .burned out hence the after market replacement. The replacement charger worked flawlessly for a year at my home. I suspect the power here is flawed either voltage or stabilization or open neutral. I'll report if the problem goes away when I get home.

Hi folks,

Unable to get bluetooth work with my Inspiron 3520

Hey Guys,

My Inspiron 3520 came with a stupid Win 8 OS. I got really tired of the interfaces and decided to go with Win 7. So I formatted my Win 8 installation and installed Win 7. All went good until I found out that my bluetooth hardware doesn't work the way it is supposed to.

I tried installing my driver from the Dell Driver Utility disk but the installer keeps asking me to activate bluetooth using the wireless switch (Fn + F2). Doing so only puts the Wi Fi device to sleep and does nothing else.

Has anyone come across this issue ? I checked the BIOS thing and no help there too.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I'm a bit frustrated by this happening again. I shipped to dell last year and it took a month to get fixed, wonderful for it to die while my business plan to graduate from college was due. I'm wondering how much does it cost to fix again?  Now I no longer have a warranty. I'm a bit irked that I spent so much on a laptop that will fail year after year. It doesn't fill me with confidence that so many people have problems with it.

[XPS 17] Bought my laptop with unusual lack of additions, problems ensued.

Hello.

To save money I have found XPS 17 offered without any operating system whatsoever. System tag: 8752SS1 (note I bought it a year ago)

In the box there was some instructions, but there was no driver disk. Only a Free Bios disk or something. But I like to get things done myself. In the shop site there was no info about Disk Driver being included, so its k. I installed Bios, installed my Windows 7 Ultimate, went to Dell Support, downloaded *everything* and went on living.

Later I think my Bios changed to Dell Inc A19, smbios 2.6 (according to System Info)

I also use Dell Support Center.

So far everything works, except some things which are bothering me.

1)First, the F3 function key doesn't work. It is supposed to turn my touchpad on/off, but the only thing it does is turn the little orange indicator on and off. I believe I have installed every needed driver from every category, so I have no idea why it wouldn't work. I have to adjust touchpad manually through Synaptics console.

2)Direct X diagnostic tool only sees and analyses my integrated HD 3000. I'd like to make sure there are no problems with 555M.
edit: cause i remember i couldnt change PhysX settings as if they didn't work...

3) Is 555m really as weak as it plays out? I have so much issues with making Witcher 2 not lag, it's stupid. super low resolution, and no cool effects. I would just want to turn HD 3000 off to just make sure the laptop uses 555m when I want it to, but I've read it's not possible. Or another solution would be a little display with the name of card used, just like there's option to show FPS in games. Hm, not even sure anymore, since i can alt-tab out of a game and on the bottom panel it's said nvidia's being used..

4) The latest driver for hd 3000 and in fact any of the latest, after extraction i get error that my system doesnt meet the minimal requirements. Right. Dunno what's up since I have this HD intel Graphics programme and all seems to be working.

re: a problem with a Dell Inspiron 1100

I picked up 2 Dell Inspiron 1100 laptops at a yard sale for a good price.  Both laptops work.  except laptop 2 only works on the battery.  Laptop 2 has a charging problem.  Laptop 2 won't charge the battery and won't run off the ac power pack.   Laptop 1 was working 100% in all  respects.  Now laptop 1 will turn on but there is nothing on the lcd screen (like as if the laptop is off).  I tried an external monitor,  nothing on the external monitor also.   I can hear the cpu fan going, I can hear the hard drive working,  the hard drive light is blinking like it should when the hard drive is working,  the cd-rom drive will turn up and run when a cd is in it and the light comes on.  I tried pulling the video board from the 2nd Inspiron 1100.  That didn't do any good.   I got an other 1100 laptop mother board from Ebay.  (the mother board was suppose to be old/new stock, never opened, never used) Still the same problem.   I talked to the seller.  The seller sent an other mother board  (again old/new stock, never opened, never used).  This mother board is doing the same thing as the other 2 mother boards.  Just to make sure I am looking at the right card for the video card.  It is a plug in card with a metal shield over it that the lcd screen plugs into.  If this card goes bad will I get the symptoms I am seeing?  I am now guessing that there wasn't a mother board problem after all.  That both video cards went bad.  Correct me if I am wrong, I don't thing this has any bearing on the subject.  On the bottom under the cover for the land line modem on laptop 2  there is an extra plug for what I think is the internal wifi card that isn't on laptop 1.  Again I don't think it matters.   Before I poor anymore money into this I need to know if this is a video card problem.

Inspiron M5010 Motherboard issue, will Dell do the right thing?

$

I have an Inspiron M5010, that like so many has had a complete motherboard failure, and one month out of warranty. I contacted Dell via phone for support, giving me only the option of mailing the laptop paying labor, and 200 dollars for a replacement mother board. I know that this is an issue of low quality manufacturing, just searching blank screen and 7 beeps and Inspiron M5010 pops up. This is clearly a defect in the manufacture. Has anyone been able to get Dell to be responsible in some way? discounted replacement or labor? Or are we supposed to honestly expect 700 dollar computers to completely fail after 13 months? I can't consciously give Dell any more business, or referrals if they operate in such a shady manner. What happened to actual customer service?

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Dell Customer Service! It has been 6 weeks since I sent the laptop to the customer service depot with a minor problem (the left side of the touch screen was not responding.) After waiting 2 1/2 weeks and getting multiple calls from them, they did nothing to fix it. They put nothing in the notes, but when I received it back the entire touch screen was unusable and the laptop would not respond to normal mouse clicks. Dell tried to diagnose it using a remote connection and could not do anything. 70 minutes later they gave up. I was told a local tech could fix it and all parts would be sent to them. I asked 4 times what happens if they do not send the right parts. I was assured that the right parts would be sent and it would be fixed.

The local tech was very polite and tried, but they sent him the wrong parts. After missing over an hour of work, he decided there was nothing more he could do and left the laptop in pieces. He promised a 2 day turnaround, this was Tuesday. I told him I could be available on Friday and he said it would be from 9 to 5. I took the day off work, sat home and received no call from Dell.

On Saturday, Dell called to tell me they could not give me a status since it was Saturday. THEY CALLED ME. Is this insane? They called me to check if everything was OK? With my laptop in pieces and not being able to use it for 4 weeks, my expert opinion was no, everything is not ok.

On Monday, I was called by Dell and after speaking to a Manger he promised it would be "expedited". I got a 2nd call Monday night saying the parts were being shipped.

Today (Wednesday) I got another call saying the parts were not in and "might" be in on Friday. Anyone wanna bet on this.

So now, I have been called by Dell 5 times. Since they promised the first 2 day turnaround. It has been 8 days and they continue to say it is "expedited". Does expedited mean I have no chance for this ever to work again? On Friday, it will be 10 days. Maybe I should tell them not to expedite it? ;-)

I have bought computers from the Atari days and NEVER, NEVER (capital NEVER) have had such poor customer service. The laptop was bought in March and was 5 months old when this started to happen. Now I am facing 6 weeks with no repair in sight. Just a call every other day they will "expedite" it.

I doubt there is anything Dell can do to restore my confidence in them at this point. JUST HORRIBLE!
