We have a Dell Precision 3510 Laptop and no matter what was done we could not install an O/S from DVD or USB.

Hello, we have a dell 3510 laptop that no matter what we tried we were unable to install the Windows 7 64 bit enterprise edition. I worked with Dell on this and even they could not get it to work., We switched the BIOS from UEFI to Legacy and switched the RAIDon to AHCP and there was the third thing which I have a hard time recalling, I think it was boot off of CD, and the setting was set correctly. We spent hours trying to do this to no avail. I tried the DVD and USB, at one point it looked as if it was going to install the O/S but we got a box that came up asking us to search for Drivers, I was able to see the 'C" drive and the "X"

It asked to Load driver, but no matter what we tried, it did not work. Below is as far as I was able to get. I even ran the F6 Driver Utility and still it was a no-go.

I had another PC to try it with but when I switched from UEFI to Legacy it was as if there was no OS at all and I had to switch it back.

Brand new XPS 9350 "Plugged in, Not Charging" fiasco

Hello all,

I need help. I'm pretty frustrated with Dell and I'm hoping there's some resolution I can find here, because the four tech support/customer service reps I've spoken to have been unable to resolve my issue.

I ordered my XPS 13 9350 on Monday July 29th, with 2 day shipping. It arrived on Wednesday, the 31st. I plugged it in, started it up, and began configuring it. Once I got to Windows, I noticed the "Plugged in, Not Charging" status on the batter in the task bar, with a battery of 1%. I did some research and found a number of suggestions, but most of them either A) happened to their laptop after they had owned if for a while and/or B) it would not charge past a certain percentage. I ran a diagnostic at startup and it indicates it cannot detect a battery. The Diagnostics page in BIOS indicates no battery communication (though the stock 45W charger is working fine). BIOS version is 1.3.3, and I know 1.4.4 is out, but Dell requires there to be at least 10% battery to update BIOS and well, I fall about 9% shy of that number. Splendid.

After this initial investigation I hopped into tech support chat. After some discussion, it was recommended to return the defective device and receive a new one. Annoying, but acceptable. After being transferred around to a number of CSR's I eventually was told I could not return the device for a new one, so I could either send it in to be inspected and fixed which would take 14 business days, or go back to tech support and receive a $40 discount. I have no idea what they meant by that, but I was pretty upset.

Eventually decided to call, and spoke with tech support for an hour. He decided the battery was the issue, and would have one sent to me next-day. I'm a little disappointed I have to disassemble my brand new laptop and install it myself, but I'm certainly capable so I agree. Now it has been nearly a week, and the service ticket is still is Status: Delayed with an Estimated Arrival Date:05/09/2016 (which is either in 4 months ago or I've been displaced to Europe without my knowledge).

I need to know what my best course of action is. I need to be able to use this laptop on battery power (not just plugged in) as soon as possible as this was purchased to be used while traveling. Return for a refund, buy a new one? Wait for the battery and hope that's the problem (and not hardware/BIOS/<insert issue here>)? Escalate this somehow and get someone who actually can help me?

Thanks so much for all your help. I'd be happy to provide order #/service tag/ Request #/Dispatch # if it will help.

We have serveral E7470 laptops with the same issue.  Once you re-dock it in the E-series port replicator the keyboard and mouse don't come on.  We have replaced the docking station, keyboard and mouse.  Once the system is restarted while in the dock it works.  This happens when the laptop is on and you dock it while its on.  Updated the systems to the newest BIOS also and same result.

Latitude E6540 very slow on bootup after Windows 10 Anniversary Update Build 1607

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

When restarting, my laptop takes 5 minutes (no, that's not a misprint) to bootup. More specifically, that's the time taken from pressing the On button to the time I get to the login screen. I have an SSD drive in the laptop. While I am waiting for this to happen, the drive light is permanently on with no flickering. That's a LOT of drive access / throughput.

From there (logging on), there are no issues. Laptop is fine.

Here's a very weird thing. If I run cmd as Administrator and then run chkdsk /f and then reboot, the laptop (after it does the disk check and reboots again) will start really fast. Like it should. If I then reboot after that, it's back to the five minute thing.

I have tried the following:

  • Turned EnableULPS off
  • Tried turning off Virtual Memory or adjusting it to the recommended settings
  • Turning off Fast Boot
  • Taken the battery out while machine is off
  • Updated the drivers from the Device Manager
  • Unfortunately boot logging c:\Windows\ntbtlog.txt does not show log times and so I cannot see where the delay is.
  • Nothing in the Event Viewer since the delay happens before that.

Any ideas? The E6540 is supposedly certified for Update 1607.

Many thanks.

Kind Regards

Nick

More hard drive information is needed.

The hard drive on my Inspiration N4110 died I asked a question about the "physical dimensions" and received a nice answer back. Thanks :-).

I forgot to ask what interface to look for when I get the replacement drive. I have seen sata 6GB and  sata 3GB. Before I disassemble the laptop I need to know as much information about the hard drive as I can be informed. The N4100 came with a 500GB I was thinking about getting a 1TB platter drive. SSD's are pricey considering I am also going to have to buy an OS. I had upgraded to Windows 10 Home(on USB) and it worked well, so I was going to get a full retail version of that OS, 64-bit work well for my needs. Do you think the N4110 will support a 1TB drive? Also what the spindle speed I noticed 5400-rpm's seem common for laptops. Do you think it could support a faster spindle speed? And lastly, does it matter as to the brand name of the hard drive maker. I was thinking of getting a Western Digital Blue drive.

Thanks for any and all information you can shair.

Dell 5368 13 5000 Pen Support-Answers Please!

I recently purchased a Dell 5368 with the Core i5 Processor, Full HD Display, and backllit keyboard directly from Dell, after two sales agents both recommended it for my travel needs. I told them both that having support for an Active Pen or Active Stylus was a non-negotiable requirement of my work. Both assured me this computer would support that.

But then, when I tried to order the Active Stylus, the Live Chat agent said, "This won't work with your computer". So, I started trying to find an answer. I really need to be able to write detailed notes on screen and make diagrams, as I am told I can with my 15 7000 Core i7 Full HD. I just wanted a bit smaller unit for the road, but if I can't use an Active Stylus, I don't want the machine.

Calls to Dell's apparently incompetent and uncaring Customer Non-Support Line have netted the following responses:

2 agents say the Active Stylus will work.
2 agents say it won't

1 Supervisor will not respond to calls to her direct line, or to any emails

Technical Support says, "Unfortunately, we don't know the answer to that, sorry"

One final agent says, "It will work, but only with the 750-AAFJ Stylus. When I informed him that is a Passive Stylus, he asked me, "What's the difference?" and continued to insist that would be great for note-taking and diagrams.

Does anyone here know the answer from experience perhaps? It should not be this hard to find out if I can draw and write on the screen. If the answer is no, I'll return it un-opened. I may do that anyway just in response to Dell's incompetence.

In the alternative, does anyone know a way to contact someone at Dell who might know what they are talking about?

Thanks in advance.

M6300 Motherboard Replacement

Still using my M6300's for all kinds of applications. Samsung Pro ssd and win 7 make it a viable performer for its current use. I Splashed coffee at top of keyboard on my favorite M6300. Just enough that it looks like I have to replace the motherboard. Found one on newegg that states its new for $104.00. Seems reasonable to get it back in use. Is JM679 the only one used for M6300's? Will I have to transfer my m1600 graphics over to the new board?

Vostro 5470 not turning on.

Hello;

I have a problem with my Vostro 5470. I wanted to upgrade the current ram from 4 gb to 8 gb so I opened the machine in order to check which RAM I have in order to buy a similar one and to check if I had 2 or 1 slot for a RAM. I took out the ram and the put it back again. Assembled the machine but when I tried to turn it again it didn't turn on.

The computer is dead. When I press the power button the battery led blinks solid once for about 1 ot 2 seconds and then nothing happens. I did some search and already tried removing the battery connector and removing the CMOS battery too, but the same thing keeps happening.

Here is a video of how it behaves; https://youtu.be/ro6KX_vF85Q

Could it be that I killed the MOBO when I removed the ram?

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Cheers.

Dell XPS 13 9350 Sleep Issue

Hello, I am having trouble recently with my dell xps 13 9350. The computer starts up from OFF fine, however if I try to wake up the laptop after closing the lid or pressing the power button quickly (which in both cases causes the laptop to sleep) all i get is a blue screen with a loading wheel. The computer does not wake up and must be restarted by holding the power button for over 4 seconds.

I have had this computer for two months and this is the first issue I've had with it. Hoping someone can help me resolve this issue. Thanks!

How do I prevent the Inspiron 15R 5537 battery from charging to 100%? I want it to charge only 80%. Why is there not any information about this? This is an important thing. It extends the battery life.

Disk Space

So on my Dell XPS 15, I have a total disk space of about 226 GB. My programs (I play many different video games) take up MASSIVE amounts of space, totaling nearly 300 GB. Right now, I'm trying to run them from my Seagate External Hard Drive, which is connected by a USB cable (The seagate cable is 3.0, but I don't think the ones on my laptop are, since none of them are blue). However, I know that no matter what, the disk inside the computer is always going to have a better speed. What can I do to increase the space? What would I need to buy? This is what my computer's "drive setup" currently looks like. I haven't changed any of the hardware at all since my purchase.

Chromebook 13 won't wake up

My Chromebook 13 was playing music for a few hours and suddenly the screen went black (with the back light on), the keyboard lights on and the music stopped. It was unresponsive to any keys.

I turned it off and back on, but it resumed the same state.

I turned it off and removed the battery for 10 minutes and plugged it back in. When I turned it on it was in the same state.

I plugged in the charger and turned it off and on, still the same.

What do I do!?
