XPS m1530: backlight turns off after 1 second

My old XPS m1530 ccfl backlight turns off after 1 second when I open my laptop. If I close it and open again, it works for 1 second and turns off again. I belive it has something to do with sensor that assumes that laptop is closed and turns light off. It has nothing todo with OS since this issue is reproduced even with HDD removed and during POST. 

There is no warranty because I got my laptop in 2007 (time to upgrade probably;), but there is probably some way to fix it?


Dell e5530 can not boot if restart

Hi everybody,

I'am using laptop dell e5530 with a SSD 240GB upgraded. Yesterday, I tried to reinstall window7 32 bit. After that, erverything seems ok. If I press power button, system starts normally. But if I restart, it can not boot to window. When this problem happened, I accessed to bios and it didn't show my SSD although I enabled SATA in AHCI mode. After exiting bios, system starts normally again.

Does anyone face with this problem? Please help me. Thanks

I want to upgrade it to 8 GB. I guess I have single slot & maximum limit is 8 GB.

Can anyone tell me how much will it cost? and where do u have service center in Kolkata, India?

keyboard backlight

Hello,

I have Dell Inspiron 13-7359.

I set the keyboard backlight to turn off after 1 min, but the properties reset after the laptop wakes up from sleep. I mean that it always go back to the "never" option, so I need to change the settings everytime I open my laptop.

How can I solve this?

Inspirion 5558 Bios Cannot Determine Power Wattage, Broken hinge

I   have owned this machine for several months after the first two months  I had to send it back to Dell because after receiving the message AC power wattage cannot be determined and spending several hours on the phone with  Dell they sent me a box and I sent them my computer. They had to replace my mother board (not a good sign on a new computer). Fast forward a few months and clicks (yep the right hinge is clicking) cant see where it is broken but doesn't sound good.  So I am going rounds with customer service no I  did not drop the computer no did not abuse it. I finally asked the gentleman and I use that term very (loosely) what am I supposed to just stare at my lap top or do I actually get to use it. Seriously did I buy 800 $ 6lb paperweight  ?  I have 5 year old dell lap top that if it was not over heating I would not have replaced it at all !! This one has been a lemon from the word go !! Now this morning I had to restart my computer and flash back to the message I received  when my mother board failed AC power wattage cannot be determined, spent another two hours on the phone, mind you I have not resolved the broken hinge issue, filed complaints the BBB and FTC . But now Dell tell me they will send me a box to send back the computer, then they put me on hold and tell   me I  have to send it my own box? I  said seriously when did this policy com into effect? They said  I should have saved the box from 4 months ago!  Like I was anticipating sending the computer in again! I cannot believe that Dell has gone this far down hill! I HAD been life long customer but this my  last one. IF they cannot stand  behind their product then they are not worth  I will continue to share my experience and post to twitter, linked in facebook, and google. I still have to figure out  fi they are going to fix the hinge issue.

upgrading inspiron e1505 to windows 10

I have a dell  inspiron e1505 running windows 7 32bit. Can this be upgraded to windows 10 without any problem like with drivers for it. I have 2gb of memory and my video card is ati radeon x1300. I just don't want to run into any problems. I have fun getting windows 7 to update itself after i installed it. Thanks for the help i can get.

Hi. I have an Inspiron 5759 running Win 10 Home 64 bit..

I have an ISO of Windows 10 Education from Dreamspark.

I'm in two minds and would appreciate some advice.

On the one hand, I'd like to completely reformat the hard drive and perform a clean install of Win 10 Education. The downside to this is:

  • I'm not sure what Dell has put on the partitions, would I lose some functionality? For example, Dell hardware diag?

  • I would have to reinstall a lot of software.

But my instincts are still telling me this is the best way to go. Is there any way to keep the extra Dell programs on the other partitions?

The alternative to a clean install is an upgrade, has anyone done this? What's your take, clean vs upgrade?

Issue with warranty/invoice

This is not a technical question, if i'm posting in the wrong section I request the moderators to move it to the correct place.

I'm from India. We have an online shop here, called "Snapdeal". Purchased a laptop from here, it's a Dell Vostro. When I check the Dell warranty page, I see the "Shipping Date" is different from the date on my invoice. Called up Dell support, they asked me to mail a scanned copy of the invoice, and they will make the appropriate corrections. I did, and the next day Dell called me back and informed my request has been rejected, as there's no "Service tag" or "Express service code" mentioned in the invoice. It's impossible for Dell to verify this invoice is for the laptop in question, and i need to contact the "place of purchase" for an updated invoice which includes the service tag of the laptop.


I've since called "Snapdeal" a number of times. They keep telling they have taken a complaint and will send an updated invoice in 24 hours, but I'm yet to receive this.
This is not really a Dell problem, it's a "Snapdeal" problem. Could someone please suggest what do I do now? If the laptop gets stolen, I won't even be able to complain to the police, as my invoice is pretty much meaningless without the serial number of the laptop mentioned on it :-(

Precision Optimizer different bios from website

I have a new Precision 3510 that I have made sure was updated to the latest bios using the Optimizer.

While I was working on an issue with the Intel HD Graphics 530 and it's strange behaviors, I checked the website for drivers for my registered system and discovered a bios update that was released in May which is not showing up in Optimizer.

Why is it not there but on the site? Also the version numbers make no sense. The newer one is Version 1.05.00, 1.05.00 released May 2016 and the older one is Version A07, A07 released March 2016.

igfxHK module stopped responding after logging in (E5570 & E7270)

This week i've setup our SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 CU3 environment so that the driver packages for the latitude E5570 (A04) and E7270 (A01) are added. Both laptops are going through our task sequences without problems. However, the first time I log in the system I get the error:

igfxHK module stopped responding.

We use Windows 7 x64 (patchlevel sept '14 unfortanatly). How can I stop this from happening with manual actions. We would like to setup our workstations completely with SCCM. Looks like a driver issue has occured.

Both laptops use  the Intel HD Graphics Driver v20.19.15.4326 (Dell version A00)

FN Keys not working

Just got my dell inspiron 7559 today with ubuntu.So i reinstalled the laptop with windows 8.1 and downloaded all required drivers and stuff.But the FN keys on my keyboard wont work.I need it to light up my keyboard.


Dell E7240 problem with keyboard

Hi,

I have a laptop model E7240.


If I quickly type on the keyboard , it repeats the keys that I typed earlier. It is not an operating system issue because it does both with windows with both linux .

I have update the bios with a12, but the problem not solving.

Have any ideas ?

Steps to control the temperature of a dell Inspiron laptop

Recently I observed that my laptop was running a bit slow. On observing the temperature using SpeedFan I found the following readings

1) CPU core temp 59 degrees centigrade  at 100% CPU Load.

2) GPU temp 57 degrees centigrade at 50% CPU load.

3) HDD temp 47 degrees centigrade

Now from what I know the average temperature should remain in the range of 40-50 degrees centigrade. While the temperatures that I am seeing are all in excess of that. So here are my questions

1) My laptop is in excess of 7 years old. Is it time to change the thermal paste? Will I get some improvements and decrease in the temperature readings?

2) The Fan speed being reported in Speed Fan is a steady constant 922 RPM? Should I look at getting a new heat sink for the CPU and a new fan for the laptop?

3) Does it make sense to get a liquid cooler for a laptop? Basically I want to extend the life as much as possible of this laptop.

    Any comments guys?

Service Tag and Express Service Code no longer recognized

I have an older Dell XPS12 9Q23. Dell System Detect correctly finds my Service Tag, but the Dell Web site will no longer recognize it. I get the following Message:

There’s no match for that Service Tag or Express Service code. Retype the code or browse for your product by selecting the "View products" option. Allow 48 hours for new devices to register on our site.

When I log into my account, my laptop shows up with the Service Tag identified and remaining warranty, but if I go to the Driver section and enter the Service Tag/Express Service Code or use Dell Detect, the site will not recognize it. Obviously I can work around this by just searching the drivers by Product, but this is not as ideal. I want to know how to correct this and Dell Support makes email contact for this well beyond cumbersome since there is no appropriate category to select.
