I have this annoying problem that while moving the trackpad around, it will randomly freeze momentarily. When I use an external mouse this doesn't happen. I've tried tons of different driver combinations and settings.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Please help, anyone! I love this laptop and don't want to have to return it.

Is my D510 motherboard dead?

I'm confused how power is getting across the board but it wont boot or do anything. When I press the power button the battery indicator flashes once and thats it, nothing.

I have tested the charger, there is 19v on the pins and the board side of the DC jack. I also tested the charging pins at the battery and there is 11v at the charging pins.

The battery indicators are not lighting at all up so I tested the battery and there is approx 6.9v on it. The battery must be getting some sort of charge as the laptop has not been used for about 2 weeks, no matter how long its 'on charge' the battery will not go beyond 7v.

The charger is a PA-12 65w, battery is c1295

Inspiron 15R 7520 : AMD video card keeps messing up

$

Hi,

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition. I got myself the i7 version.

TLDR VERSION:

Every time I try to launch an application using my video card, my screen would black out and I would get back to the login screen. Applications such as games, steam, catalyst center... force close on Windows startup and cannot be launched after (nothing happens). All of my drivers are up to date, clean reinstall already done several times. Any extra tips?

LONG VERSION:

Typically when I got the computer I went into my standard "laptop installation procedure", which is basically:

  1. Make sure every security-related software is up and running (ie. antivirus, firewall)
  2. Download Firefox as my standard web browser, + basic Firefox extensions such as AdBlock
  3. Get my system up to date by downloading the latest version for each and every of my drivers: BIOS, video cards... So yes, before you tell me to kindly install the last drivers, I already got them installed, using the Dell website to see what should I have to update. Got my Catalyst center updated too
  4. Download Steam and test my PC performance with a game (in this case, I used Rochard and GTA IV)

The three first steps were, as usual, cleanly done. When I got to the fourth step, first problem I had was: Rochard was seemingly running on the HD Graphics and not the Radeon, hence very laggy. No problem, I fixed it by changing the parameters in Switchable Graphics and it worked fine. Then, GTA IV worked directly without any problem.

At this point, I thought I was good to go. Until I randomly went browsing on Youtube, and I saw that Firefox was absolutely unable to display any Youtube video. The video would not appear, and my cursor would change for half a second to a "loading" cursor, and then go back 2 seconds to a normal cursor, back to loading again... At this point I believed I had a video card problem?

I then launched the "My Dell" Application to run a complete check up and oh! The splash screen appears, but then, nothing, the application just completely shuts down. I then tried to use Youtube on Internet Explorer, the video was displayed fine, but after like 10 seconds of video, my screen would flash on and off for about 30 seconds, and then I'm back to the Windows 8 Login screen, with Windows seemingly restarted since logging me in would not show what I was running before the crash. At this point, every time I would start Windows, my Steam would force close, and the Catalyst control center too.

(note: a couple of forum posts exposed the same problem, for example: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/p/19514226/20401009.aspx , so I believe I'm not the only one to have this problem. I originally thought that I got unlucky and got a faulty laptop, but now I'm not so sure...)

So I tried everything I could find, out of my own knowledge and out of all these forums. I uninstalled the Catalyst center, went to the device manager and uninstalled both video cards drivers. Rebooted the PC, installed the drivers, tried to launch a Youtube video... Same crash. This time, I couldn't set my screen brightness anymore, and Windows would tell me that it deactivated my Radeon card because it had problems. And I had to reinstall all over again to be able to gain control of my brightness again

Still unable to launch a MyDell instance for a checkup, I tried the pre-boot complete tests, left my computer a couple of hours running them, and each and every test passed without any problem, but I still have the same problem.

So here I am now. I tried everything I could do: having the latest, up to date drivers, clean reinstall of the graphics card + switchable graphics app... But still the same problem: my firefox is unable to show any Youtube video, while my Chrome and Internet Explorer can play tehm for 10 seconds before the crash. Any attempt of me launching an application using te video card (such as Steam, or any game, or even the MyDell application) is a failure: I would usually have the splash screen, and then nothing (not even an error message).

So... I know that usually, and Intel graphic card + AMD video card do not make quite the good couple. But I would expect it to work at least for basic tasks such as watching a video. What is it that I could do - aside from the traditional "please update all of your drivers" - to finally make this work? Is my laptop actually faulty and then should I send it to be repaired?

Thank you

M1530 shows BIOS screen but cuts out before it finishes loading

My M1530 turns OK and shows the BIOS screen. When it is trying to complete the loading sequence of the BIOS the fan starts spinning as fast as it can and then the computer just cuts out as if it has overheated. It can have overheated though as it is only on for about 6 or 7 seconds before cutting out.

When I boot it with the Fn key held down the Caps lock light starts flashing followed by all the lights flashing and then back to just the Caps lock light flashing. I know about the GPU problems but the fact that the BIOS screen appears and it even appears when using a HDMI out make me think it's not the GPU

Laptop XPS17 failing to turn on.

(Please visit the site to view this video)I own a Dell XPS 17 (L702X) which is around 1.5 years old.
One night after watching a movie, i turned it off(Hibernate). It never turned on again.

I tried dell's technical support, and they said that my motherboard has short-circuited and i need to replace it.

When i asked, they suggested the following possible causes:

1. Bad earthing(ground)

2. Water damage

3. Over heating

I am quite sure about 1st and 2nd. I got my earthing checked and neither can it be water-damage.

My laptop does generate a lot of heat while gaming, and i always use an external cooling pad, with three fans positioned right at the input vents. I had never experienced any lag or performance issue with the heat.(http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/in/en/indhs1/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?docid=279891)

Also, i was just doing simple stuff the last time i used my laptop. No signs of any failure of even possible failures.

It just didn't start the next time.

Observations:
1. POST is completing.

2. Unable to reach till BIOS options. System turning off within 0.5 sec after the DELL logo appears.

Please help. Even if i replace the motherboard, i want to be sure of the root cause, as it's quite expensive.

Laptop right arrow key does not working.

When the right arrow key is spamming the touchpad stops working. This goes on for a long time, stops for a few minutes, then starts again. When the spamming stops, the touchpad starts working again but the right arrow key does not. Also, when I turn on my netbook, sometimes there would be a continuous beeping sound before Windows 7 starts. It does this for a long time, so I just do a hard reset when this happens. Please help me, I have dell vostro 1550 laptop.

Dell Xps 1645 four months of madness and nightmare, it is not what fails BSOD

Good afternoon, everyone.
First, I want to thank Dell, this fabulous laptop with three years I have been very happy, and I hope to continue to count on.

took four months without living.
I tried everything, absolutely everything, I will try to summarize briefly.
My 1645, has its own life and when you want it restarts.

Operating Systems:

The failure started with win 7, system manufactures.
I tested with win xp upgraded to stop.
And now with windows 8

Never mind. Always happens randomly.
Windows 8 is showing me something finer system events and possible causes.
Dell tool, my Dell, it is able to capture the error when a snapshot Blue.
APPCRASH, not recorded whenever this failing.
BlueScreenView, sometimes does not even know what happened.

Let's start:

What does the PC exactly, symptoms:

Unable to reach login in screen

Hello,

Problem

I am using a Inspiron 15R N5110 and my warranty is already expired. A few days ago, i encountered a "blue screen" when i was playing computer game.As i thought by restarting the computer will solve the problem, i did not take down the error code or any information from the blue screen. Ever since, after booting up my laptop, I am unable to reach the login window that prompts for password before reaching the desktop.

Methods attempted

1. When i tried to "launch startup repair " or "start windows normally" ,  "launch startup repair" will lead me to a blank blue screen and stop there even if i leave it for a long time. "start windows normally" will just lead to the laptop restarting itself.

2. Booting up from safe mode. It is the same outcome as the above where it will end up at a blue screen and just hang there.

Please advice me on probable solutions. thank you

When turn on laptop, logo flashes, then screen goes blank and laptop won't boot

<F12>

   1)  Running system diagnostics indicates "All tests pass"

   2)  UEFI BOOT (Network - only option)

<F8> during bootup does not work (for OS recovery)

<F2> BIOS, to load setup defaults, then try to save, receive following error message:

          Formset 98FBBCFB-1392-4FDE-ABB8-C41CC5AD7D6D

Failed to save storage: BOOT_MENU_ITEMS. Status: Access Denied

Do not have Windows8 installation discs for OS reinstall

Per Dell support site page, still have Limited Technical Support and Rapid Response Depot warranty support

Have read previous similar threads (including these links: http://dell.to/14tVLOChttp://dell.to/WieA5l ) without success in resolving issue

Dell Inspiron 14 N4050 3 beeps no display

$

Hi,

I have Dell Inspiron 14 N4050. I have been using it fine for about 1 year.

It recently starting giving error "the AC adapter cannot be recognized", I checked and it was working fine with battery, without battery directly on power supply as well as no issue with charging. So I didn't pay much attention to it.
I turned it on today in the evening and it turned on fine. I opened browser and suddenly the screen froze and the display got little distorted. The system jammed, so I took out the battery and unplugged the power supply cord.
As I turned it back on, there was no display and it gave 3 beeps repeatedly. I unplugged everything (battery and power supply cord) and tried to turn it on again, it gave 4 beeps repeatedly with no display. On subsequent tries with battery or directly on power supply or with both, it gives 4 beeps repeatedly with no display. I am guessing its power issue and/or RAM problem?

Kindly help me and guide me for its repair. Thank you.

Dell XPS 12 Battery

Does anyone know how long a Dell XPS 12 battery should charge? I completely depleted the battery and it would charge fully for like more than 3 hours (even when the laptop is off). I find that rather slow compared to my 5-year-old Dell Studio 15 laptop which, when completely depleted, charges fully for for 1-2 hours even while I use it or is turned on.

I also noticed something else. My laptop was fully charged and I didn't use it for at least one day. I left it unplugged. The next day, I opened it and the battery already depleted by 10%. I find that very weird. Again, my old laptop doesn't even do that.

Is there any possibility that my XPS 12's battery is defective?

I tried emailing Dell Tech Support but the Dell website keeps on giving me problems. I can't really call either coz I'm quite busy. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts!

Good Afternoon,

I have thought I had fixed my AC adapter not recognizing being recognized by updating my bios from A10 to A15 on Friday. Today when I turned my computer on I got the same error showing that the AC adapter could not be recognized. I have looked at and followed all of the advise on here on Friday and thought my fix was he BIOS. The battery shows it is fine and so does the AC Adapter. I do not have a warranty anymore so some advise would be great.

Thank you!
