XPS 13 Ultrabook battery not charging

My 18-month old XPS 13 Ultrabook just shut down as the battery was fully drained.  The 45W Dell AC adapter was not charging the battery and the white light on the AC adapter blinks on and off when attached to the Ultrabook.  The AC adapter stays lit solid white when unplugged from the Ultrabook, but blinks when plugged into the laptop.

I can get the laptop to start up and run with another AC adapter however the battery does not charge when using the other adapter.  The front amber light blinks when the computer is running with the other adapter  The BIOS Main page indicates that the AC Adapter Type is "unknown" when being powered by the other AC adapter.

How do I get the Dell 45W adapter to work again and charge the laptop battery?

The battery health test says that the laptop battery is fine and operating normally, although it won't charge with the other AC adapter.

Can I get the laptop to recognize the other AC adapter and have that adapter charge the battery?

Thanks.

XPS 15 Skylake 9550 - ambient light sensor?

I reformatted mine - basically installing no dell packages. Is there a program to detect the light in the room and set the display brightness accordingly?   I'd prefer not to install any software/utility that is not essential. Does the non 4K version have an ambient light sensor to adjust the screen brightness? I never looked before I reformatted.

Specific Part Number needed for my Dell Precision M6500

Hi All,

I'm currently building a second Precision M6500 (one awesome Linux system!!) and I can find all the necessary parts and pieces to put a complete system together except ONE!  I can't find the retaining clip/screw piece that holds the video cable connector to the mainboard!  I know the cable snaps in pretty good and probably won't pop out but just for completeness, I'd love to have that little clip/whatever it's called with the captive screw on it that looks like it prevents the cable from working its way off the m/b due to heat...

I would guess that this clip would be the same for the M6400 and M6600...  The clip is described in the service manual but no part number is given...

Does anyone have any idea where I might find that item or at least the item's part number?

Thanks!

BIOS BUG Report: XPS 15 9550

This is a very strange bug.

When I disable Thunderbolt in my BIOS, on the next boot I get either a corrupted screen ( red black white snow) or a blank screen.

When I reboot again I can hit F2 to enter BIOS but I only get about an inch high band across the screen.  I can see in that band only.

I can guess where options are and change them both with the mouse and touchscreen , but I can still only see about an inch of the bios screen going across the screen.  The rest is either black or corrupted depending on how it boots up.

After fishing around a while I was able to restore the defaults in the BIOS and upon reboot everything works fine.  I did this three times to verify it was the thunderbolt setting that caused this.

Totally guessing here but obviously something is wrong with the BIOS, which could explain why it takes so long to see the DELL logo at boot.  Changing the Rapid Boot mode has zero effect in Boot time.

Inspiron 15 3541 Sometimes the touch pad on-off switch is there, sometimes it's not

Hiya

Trying to disable the touch pad.

If I follow:

Control Panel
Mouse
Dell Touchpad

...sometimes I get a page under that tab which includes a link: "Change settings on Dell touchpad"
Click that link, up comes a dashboard-type window which includes an on-off selection.

...sometimes it's a DIFFERENT PAGE which does not have a link to the dashboard.  (And no on-off switch of its own).

Pretty sure there aren't any variations in the 3 steps to get to the touchpad tab under Mouse, so what is the possible explanation for having two different results?

The upshot is that sometimes I can switch off the touchpad (which always seems to turn itself back on eventually, and sometimes I cannot.

Anybody know this one?

Thanks,
denno

Inspiron 15 3541 --- sometimes the touch pad on-off switch is there, sometimes not

I wrote this but can't see that it posted.  I apologize if it's a duplicate.

To disable the touch pad, you go to Control Panel, Mouse, Touchpad tab.

Sometimes then you see a page including a link to "Change Dell Touch Pad Settings."  This brings up a dashboard type window with an on-off switch.

Other times the apparent same steps gets you a page with some settings for the Touch Pat, but no link to a dashboard, not any on-off choice.

How is this even possible?  Makes it not possible at times to turn the touchpad off.

Anybody know how to get through this?

Thanks,
denno

Dell inspiron n5010 won't start 3 beeps

4 yo laptop started having this 3 beep problem last  month.

Sometimes the laptop restarts just fine after leaving it off overnight,  but even after removing flea power, now it won't show anything on the screen, just 3 beeps continuously.

Even though I have had this for a good few days now, the laptop when sometimes it does start  works just fine. The problem is once I shutdown there is no guarantee how long before it restarts.

My warranty is long gone so I'd  be grateful    if you could suggest anything as well as the cost estimate.

Thanks in advance(from hyderabad).

XPS 9350 and PM951: hw encryption not available on bios?

$

I recently got a new XP9350 with the PM951 which is supposed to have hardware encryption.

Usually you can enable it from the bios.

The previous version, XPS 9343 had a different SSD but you had a way to set the disk password from the bios, enabling the mini SSD hardware encryption.

Why is it not available on the newer model? Is it a feature disabled from the current bios or a bug?

From the Samsung website specs, the AES hw encryption is present on all drives.

A professional/business laptop without this feature enabled is pointless in 2015!

Precision 5100: UEFI BIOS not available with 2.5" SSD

In the Customise area for the Precision 5100, if you select a 2.5" SSD, UEFI BIOS is not available as an option. It's only there when you specify an m.2 PCIe drive. Any reason for this?

(I don't want to get the PCIe drive at this point as I want to install a 1TB Samsung 950 Pro when they come out next year.)

Also, is the "Adata DP900" SSD actually the "SP900"? I can't find an Adata DP900 model anywhere.

New DELL XPS 17 Power Socket Jack Cable

Hi guys, unfortunately my power connector inside my laptop is broken (in that it came loose making it really difficult to plug the charging cable in) and I was wondering if there is anywhere I could get a replacement (I need the connector and the cable with the connector module attached to it). I can see  some on sale on ebay, but I'm not sure I can trust them, so I was wondering if there is a Dell official part I can buy from some official Dell retailer (preferably online). Any idea

thanks

Dell Inspiron N5010 Memory Upgrade Problems

My N5010 shipped with 6gb of RAM and I recently decided to upgrade to 8gb of RAM.  I purchased a 2x4gb PNY kit, model number MN8GK2D31600LV.  Specs for this kit are below.

Dual Channel, 1600MHz (PC3-12800), CAS Latency 11, Voltage 1.35v, XMP support NO, Compatible with 1600MHz, 1333MHz, 1066MHz.

I installed the new memory, but now I cannot boot into Windows.  The BIOS recognizes all 8gb of RAM.  I have tried running the boot up diagnostics, but they crash before completion.  I have also tried using a bootable CD with Memtest86 and that diagnostic will not complete before the system crashes either.

I have removed the new memory and reinstalled the original memory, but the computer will still not boot into Windows.  It is more stable and will run the boot up diagnostics now.  I tried the startup repair option and it found errors that could not be repaired.

What do I need to do to get my laptop up and running again?

hi there,

recently re-installed my windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and just after all the other drivers in CORRECT order FROM dell driver section BY service no. has been installed, i discovered that Wireless network driver is not responding and every driver that should fit the system is throwing an error message - it can't be installed.

Tried all the drivers i could find in Dell support page,
all drivers 1501 from driveridentifier. com
even started to look at the HP forums because they had more Verified answers than Dell support does.
Reinstalled windows at least 3 times,
formated everything that could be formatted.

No results.

At this point i don't even know if it does any harm to computer after installing or trying to, all the drivers.

Hardware ID are:
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_00101028&REV_01
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_00101028
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280

Any help would be appreciated.
I'm 100% sure there's just one small detail or driver that is missing.

laptop not working

Hi had bought laptop in august 2013. In June hard disc gave way so bought a new one. Now ihave been told by the Dell service centre in Delhi that motherboard is not working. Sir had bought this laptop just two years back for 42000/- Within a span of two years the hard disc and mother board needs replacement. Sir does Dell do a quality check after assemblage of parts or for individual parts. Its sad that such a reputed company like Dell is producing products of such low quality and worst of all it shirks its responsibility by saying these are electronic parts... but sir if Dell is quoting a high price for its product then it must take responsibility for its quality....

Hoping for the best

Upgrading RAM on Inspiron 7737

$

Hello,

I recently purchased a Inspiron 7737 laptop.  The laptop came with 8 GBs of RAM.

I went to buy another 8 GB of RAM. I bought the exact brand of what was already in the laptop.

After installing the extra stick of RAM, I download the BIOS from the support site and ran that application. The application ran successfully.

However, when I went to look at my computer, it still only has 8 GB of RAM.  What else do I have to do for it to read the extra 8 GBs? Does the Inspiron 7737 allow for 16 GB of memory.

Someone please advise... Thank you in advance

Hello,

I tried searching on the DELL Web site for this information, but couldn't find it anywhere.

Does the integrated memory cardreader of the E6430 support SDXC cards ?

Thank you for your assistance.

  Yves

PS: I know that it supports SDHC cards (up to 32GB), but I want to buy a 64GB or more memory card.
