I'm wondering if anyone knows if the Dell Inspiron N4110 will support the full Read/Write speed of a SATA 3 (6GB/s) SSD?

Dell Inspiron N7110 boot problem.. 2 beeps and the fan only..

Thanks to ejn for his help on my last question.. I have another one and hope we can sort it out.. Thanks in advance...

My Dell N7110 is booting to 2 quick short beeps along with the fan starting.. If you leave it on, it will cycle and repeat the 2 beeps after 15 seconds or so and will continue that cycle until you shut it off.. 2 beep code says RAM not recognized or needs to be reseated, or bad sockets, right? Not this time.. I've tried reseating the RAM (2 x 4GB DIMMS), I've tried swapping the sticks between socket A&B, I've removed 1 stick and tried just the other, I've tried the latter in both sockets. Nothing, still 2 beeps.. I've tried 4 different "new" RAM sticks in all of the above combinations that I listed, (2 x 2GB DIMMS) (2 X 1GB DIMMS)  Nothing, still 2 beeps... I even went the extra mile and ordered a brand new motherboard from Dell (yes, I love this laptop) and after installing it and reassembling, guess what? It boots to 2 beeps.... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Returned the Dell motherboard and waited for a replacement... It arrived, and guess what? Rinse and repeat... Boots to 2 beeps...

I'm at a loss here... Has anyone ever seen or heard of this unique problem? If so, what's the fix?  Is it possible that I've got 3 bad motherboards or worse 6 bad sticks of RAM? I've unplugged as many of the peripherals as possible, but still the same...

I'm open to ideas...

Latitude E5430 looses WiFi connection

Hi,

I have just received a new Latitude E5430 with Windows 7 64bit.

It  worked fine for a day, and I was just getting to the phase were I'd be installing  all the different the software , when after doing a windows update the wifi connection was lost.

Whatever I did, it would not work again, it was trying to use the 169.254.xxxx.xxxx IP address instead of 192.168.xxx.xxx..

Deleted all network settings, rebooted the router/modem and finally I got back to a proper IP address but the system is still not connecting.. claiming the signal is poor, even from 2 feet away from the Router.

Deleted MacAfee but to no avail.

Is this just a faulty network card? Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot

Jeroen

Deployed soldier with Alienware m14x r2 issues.

Over the past two weeks, my Alienware laptop has decided to make my life interesting. The first issue was my external hard drive randomly stopped being picked up by the USB port. So, I did a restore point, it fixed the issue but after I did this, my computer would make 7 loud beeps on start up. Second issue, random programs such as Firefox download helper, stopped working. Third issue, (kind of my own fault) I spilled milk on the arrow keys but everything worked fine until the next day. First my keys were freaking out and binding. Then the right arrow key completely stopped working. Now it works again but when I use it, it will go nuts as if I am holding it down. What is going on? and how in the hell do I fix this. The laptop is only 7 months old and I've experienced so many issues with it in such a short time. Please helpAngry

Recovering after a spill and dry episode

I had my water sitting next to my Dell Inspiron 1501 on Sunday - today is Thursday.  I unplugged it, dried what water I could see, took what obvious parts I could off, and dried it in front of a fan for three days.   After putting it together today, it took a while but it came back to life.  Is there anything in particular I should check on it to be sure it's okay before I just use it?

Just did a factory restore from the data safe app. Restarted and now says bootmgr missing. I know what this means but can't fix it. There's no f key option to do anything and I don't have recovery discs. Their software broke this. :(

Cursor jumps only when typing emails

We have a Dell XPS 15z.  It has had two issues.  First an internet connectivity issue solved when we got a new router from Verizon.  But now, when we type an email, the cursor jumps to the top and we have tried to disable to touch pad with no success.  We don't have this issue when typing in elsewhere, e.g., Word.  This is driving my wife crazy and it would me also if I used that laptop.  Please help.

Inspiron N7010 will not POST

First off, I would like to take a moment to thank anyone and everyone for whatever help I might be able to acquire with my particular issue.

Now then, I have a Dell Inspiron N7010 that simply refuses to POST. When I power it on, the initial splash screen appears, and the progress bar reaches about 60% before it stalls. Pressing F2 or F12 highlight the option in the lower right corner to indicate that the input has been received, but neither command is ever executed. The single beep as normally heard after a successful POST remains M.I.A.

The event that precipitated this issue was a failed attempt to recover from a sleep state, which lead to a B.S.O.D.

My attempts so far:

1) Re-seated everything

2) Tried a different HDD and RAM

3)Removed, and eventually replaced, CMOS battery to clear any potential issues there

4)Pleaded to a higher power

5)Posted here

The B.S.O.D. and failure to POST indicates a serious hardware issue to me, I just don't even know where to go from here.

Hey guys:

Just bought a Inspiron 15 3521, Windows 8 pre-installed.  I downgraded to Windows 7.  However everytime I boot up the Dell logo appears, then comes a black screen saying something about Realtek controller.  The screen goes away in a second and the computer works just fine.  Any way to fix this annoyance? Not a big deal but would like to know if I can remove it!

Thanks

Anti-glare screen protector for 17R

I have a Inspiron 17R  5721. Mostly I think it is great except for one big problem. Its screen glare. If there is any light behind me I pretty much cannot see anything on the screen over the mirror of what's behind me.

Can anyone recommend a good anti-glare or matte screen protector? I see on Amazon several possibilities ranging from $12 to lots more. Any suggestions or comments?

Screen flashes white and other various colors on startup.

After I start up my Inspiron 15R and log in to either Windows or Ubuntu, the screen starts flashing white, blue, green, yellow, etc... until it eventually shuts off on its own. When this starts happening, the three (what looks like to be monitor?) buttons at the top of the keyboard glow in and out once, then go back off. What is happening? It's not software, because it's happening on both OS's. What is the issue?

Dell, Just as Good as Ever

So, I ordered a new system, and it arrived today.  I go to start it up, and all I get is four beeps, nothing more.  So, I call Dell, end up waiting about 10 minutes before I get to take to someone with a relatively heavy accent.  He runs me through a bunch of tests, most of which I have already done, and now I have a service setup to replace the motherboard and the RAM.

So, Dell is just where it was when I left there 5 years ago.  Still sending out systems that do not work, and then being so kind as to fix them after the fact.  I just thought I would report this heartwarming story to anyone out there considering a Dell.  I won't say don't do it, because there are so few PC OEMs left, and you can do worse, but the quality of Dell systems, and the quality of their preparation still leaves much to be desired.

Though, I do want to give praise to the Tech on the phone, he was very professional and knew his stuff.

It is just the idea of sending out a non-functioning system and then offering nothing but "we'll have it fixed in two or three days" and "I am sorry for your problem" delivered with little if any true feeling behind it.

Oh, and Forum Liaisons?  Don't bother replying unless you are offering something more tangible than sorry.  I am not interesting in hearing that hollow word from anyone else at Dell.

Windows unable to update after hdd upgrade

I just installed a new hard drive and installed the factory image from my system recovery disks. Everything seems to be running fine, except windows will not update. Error message is something like: Windows cannot update because services are not running, you may need to reboot.

After some research I checked that the services BITS and WU are indeed both running, and both set to automatic delay. I have of course rebooted several times to make sure that the settings are correct.

My system is a XPS 1640 and I am running windows 7 64-bit. The new hard drive is 750gb (which windows only reads a 664gb) whereas the old one was 300gb (I think). I am using the free version of avast anti-virus.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Laptop screen goes blank

My Inspiron 3500 running W98 is vital because many CDs and important files written with W98 are accessible only with this machine. But after a short time (10-30mins) the screen goes to white and completely blank. Toggling to an external screen worked and gave an uninterrupted display. This suggests the problem is in the laptop screen itself, its cable or the circuitry feeding it.  However i no longer have access to a VGA screen. It's unlikely that running diagnostics will tell me anything that isn't already obvious from the above description. Is a workshop the only course of action now, and are parts available? Other than this problem the computer is in perfect working condition.

So I am looking at potentially replacing my current hard drive with a new seagate SSHD drive. The new hard drive is a SATA 3 interface and I am not sure if my computer supports SATA 3 or not. I have a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110. Thanks!

Hello Sir, I am having Dell Inspiron 6400 BIOS Version A17. Would like to know how can I disable my external graphics card ATI RADEON X1400 in BIOS without physically removing it to test weather a software will work or not? I can't find advance menu in bios after entering after pressing f2. Is there any other way? Thanks

TouchPad Driver and HD Graphics Driver

Hey everyone. I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520. I recently installed Windows 8 and some of the drivers just don't work.

The TouchPad Driver gave the following error: "An error occured while unzipping. One or more files were unsuccesfully unzipped."

HD Graphics Driver gave the following error: "Your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to instal this software"

What am I supposed to do?

Thank you very much.
