How do you fix a damaged laptop key or restore it on?
Note: This document is intended like a general reference and could not affect your laptop. Furthermore, if you are attempting to remove or place a key back on the desktop keyboard, begin to see the desktop keyboard steps.
Fixing a loose keycap
Laptop keycap, keypad, and key retainerUnlike individuals on the desktop, each one of the secrets on the laptop keyboard have three components: the keycap, keypad, and also the key retainer as proven within the picture.
When the keycap is loose but nonetheless connected to the laptop, it may frequently be fixed by pressing lower around the keycap. When the keycap re-attaches, you need to hear easy while pressing the important thing lower. If this doesn't fix the problem we recommend getting rid of the important thing so it may be re-attached. The re-attachment process is proven below.
Fixing a damaged keycap
Note: If your key, keycap, keypad, or retainer is physically damaged or missing, it should be changed.
If you are getting difficulty placing a key back to the laptop stick to the steps below. If you are attempting to place the fix the spacebar, skip to spacebar steps.
1. Begin by first placing the important thing pad in to the laptop. For those who have a vital pad such as the one proven in picture towards the top of the page, we recommend putting setting up it following the retainer is occur spot to make things simpler. When the pad is placed, it ought to lie flat and have the ability to bend (proven within the image below).
Laptop keyboard key retainer
Tip: If you are unsure what direction laptops key retainer goes, look into the orientation from the metal hooks on the bottom of the laptop keyboard they'll dictate the orientation of plastic components laid into them.
2. Place the information in to the retainer.
3. When the above two steps happen to be completed, squeeze key cap within the retainer within the proper orientation and press lower gently. The important thing should snap to the retainer and work. When the key doesn't look right try pressing lower on all corners from the answer to make certain all clips are clicked into position.
Spacebar key steps
Unlike another secrets around the keyboard, the spacebar requires additional steps to be able to have it fixed on correctly. The look below shows the spacebar taken off a laptop. Prior to the spacebar keycap can be put back to the laptop, there's a bar (proven below) should be removed by placing your flathead screwdriver beneath it and lightly tugging upward.
Laptop spacebar key
Once this bar continues to be removed, put the new spacebar around the laptop, being conscious that it's correctly oriented within the retainers, and push lower to snap it back to place.

going nowhere fast with a touchpad on e6400 latitude laptop
for the life of me , I don't know if its the dell software or hardware is the . when i type into forms and click with touchave to pad, i have to tap continously to get the cursor to start in another box to make cursor to show in order to type. i havent use an exterior mouse . see if this changes, and even as i type the cursor moves to another part of a sentence at will. what am i doing wrong or need to reset? any help is appreciatiated.
How to activate mousepad
I'm currently using an external mouse because my mousepad isn't working. I just got the computer today and am wondering if maybe it just isn't activated.
I have a Latitude D630
Model # PP18L
Alienware mx17 r5 Crashing When Trying to Stream To Twitch
Dell 7548 USB Ejected when Close Lid
When lid is close, the laptop goes into sleep mode. However, the external USB drive get totally shut down instead of going to sleep mode. This problem only happen for lid sleep. If I click sleep button and not close lid, there is no USB ejection problem.
I am pretty sure the problem is BIOS related. If I disable "USB Wake Support" under BIOS, the problem happen both normal sleep and lid sleep. By enabling "USB Wake Support", only normal sleep works fine with USB. But I want "USB Wake" enabled for Lid closed case, too!
Lap top failure after trying to update bios
I had a problem where the laptop stopped closing down properly.
The operating system would shutdown, but the Power LED, Network LED, and fan would continue until I held the power switch down for a few seconds.
I noticed that there was a new BIOS, i try to update the new bios.
However, when I started the BIOS update, the machine went into the state mentioned above during the update, and I had to power it off manually.
This action seems to have caused an issue as the laptop will no longer boot.
Now, when I press the power button,
The Power light comes onThe three buttons on the right light up in the following sequence: 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 1+2, 1+2+3, all off.The cd seeks to zero (I guess thats what it is doing).
Then all switches off except the power LED, and the laptop emits a sequence of three beeps, pause, three beeps. This goes on...
I can only assume I have messed up the BIOS update and need to fix this.
From several searches, the suggestion is that I can create an emergency BIOS update disc/USB stick. However, I have not been able to get information on how to create this recovery disk. All I have at the moment is the windows bios update file, 5423A08.exe.
Dell XPS 12 2 A08 BIOS UPDATE
Ever since I updated to A08, when booting up, it tells me, my power adapter is not correct. I have 4 adapters, 2 from a latitude 630 with a adapter cable from Dell, one from a new latitude with a adapter cable, and the one that came with the computer. It is the only one that does not give me the error message.
The computer worked fine with all of them till the update. Now it tells me those 3 will not work correctly.
Is there anyway to remove the latest BIOS update, and go back to A07?

How to Remove Ubuntu and Install Windows 8.1 on Inspiron 3138
Hi everyone,
I just recently bought Dell inspiron 11 (3138) that comes pre-installed with Ubuntu.
Can anyone be so kind as to guide me through how to remove Ubuntu with Windows 8.1.
I understand the BIOS in this machine is legacy-free as the only option to boot is either from hard drive or trough LAN.
I have tried to plugged in a window usb drive created by rufus but without success, your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Dell 17R SE (2012) boot problem
I bought my Dell in September 2012. The warranty period is already over, so it's fine that employees from Dell don't find my problem urgent. Anyway, this is my problem:
A few days ago, my laptop suddenly shut itself down while I was gaming. No warning, no sound, AC charger and battery plugged in so it can't be because of a power shortage. I rebooted and when I finished working on it, I put it in stand by. After an hour so I started it up again, but the laptop shut down immediately.
Now I started booting again but I noticed none of the lights on the laptop would light up. I only hear the CD drive and my HDD whirring. I managed to run the LCD test (D + power), and suddenly it rebooted normally.
After another shutdown that didn't work anymore the next time. I ran system diagnostics (Fn+power) and it didn't return any errors.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
AW 17 R2 early 2015
Recently i bought an AW laptop and now i have several problems.
The laptop doesn't show the internal 1TB HDD when windows boots, it does show the 512Gb SSD on which windows 8.1 is installed. The HDD does show in the bios. I tried changing bios settings, but that didn't help.
The other problem is with booting, with the SSD it should be quick. Sometimes it takes over several minutes ( not cause of windowsupdates) and sometimes it just powers down and i need to press the power button again.
I haven't changed anything on the laptop, it is right out of the factory. the laptop is fully updated with all new windows and other drivers. No strange software, just office and steam.
I just don't wanna send it back, cause i will be out a laptop for months.
