Problem inserting XD picture card into media reader in Inspiron 15 3542

For some reason I'm unable to insert in XD picture card into the media reader on my laptop.  I understood it was compatible with XD cards.  Have tried to insert the card with the label up with the edge with the arrow in first.  Does not seem to want to go in at all and I am very reluctant to force it.  Am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how you overcame it.  Thanks in advance for your response.

need Network card LAN driver under windows 8 64 bit for Latitude E6410

Hi,

Recently I installed windows 8 on my laptop Latitude E6410 and after the installation windows update

took care of installing the drivers including the network drivers.

Now the Ethernet or lan device is not working, if I plug the network cable nothing is happening.

I tried to install windows 7 56 bit network driver but I am getting an error.

Where  can I download the proper driver for network card LAN?

Thanks

Inspiron 15 3543 keyboard appears unsupported, bends

Just bought an Inspiron 15 i5 8gb 1Tb laptop: Now running Windows 8.1 & Ubuntu 14.04.  Replaces 7-year old Inspiron 1525 (think that disk drive is failing...).  Overall good impression, good job Dell, thanks!

The keyboard appears a bit unsupported in the middle: (UK layout - QWERTYUIOP..)

From the left to Q it is firm, then beyond there is visibly deforms down when pressing keys, until you get to the numeric keypad on the right:  Works OK though.

Is this normal for current Dell keyboards?? I'm loath to try opening it up or returning it under warranty, but it just feels "wrong".  Any ideas or suggestions, please??

Regards & thanks in

Dell Studio 1535 battery is not charging - battery is not installed

$

Hi,

I have a Dell Studio 1535 laptop.  Yesterday it gave the next error message:

Warrning: The battery cannot be identified.
The system will be unable to charge this battery.

After running the diagnostics, the laptop works just with AC adapter and it doesn't charge the battery.
The setup (battery info) shows: Battery not installed.
(AC adapter 90W.)

I use the laptop with the original battery and the original adapter.

The laptop works fine with the charger, after the test i don't see any error message, it starts normally. If I remove the battery, the laptop is OK with the charger as well, no difference.

I removed the battery, pressed the power button 15 secs, and waited. Then I put it back and charged it overnight.

I tried to refresh the BIOS, but I wasn't able, cause of the battery level is under 10%. I tried to force it in a DOS command window with /forceit command, but the result is the same.

Would be solution the bios refresh? How can I refresh it with an empty battery?
Or Is it a simple battery faulire so do I need to buy one?
Or is it a problem with the DC jack power connector cable?
Or is it the motherboard?

What can I do?

Thanks for your valuable answers.

Loud Fan Noise (Inspiron 15 5548)

For some reason, my computer frequently produces a loud fan noise when I am using it. For the majority of the time, it is silent. However, there are often times when I don't even have many webpages open but it grows louder. There are two levels of loud (the second level is so loud that it can draw attention from people sitting next to me).

This is only a 2 month old laptop, so I am unsure why it gets loud. Also, I have 12gb RAM, which adds to my confusion.

Any suggestions or reasoning? Thanks!

Unable to get intel Rapid Start running properly

Hi. I am currently using Dell Inspiron 15r SE 7520 that came with Windows 8.0 64bit,  a 32gb SSD and a 1TB HDD. Windows updated to 8.1.

Recently installed new graphics drivers for Radeon 7730m and the Intel switchable graphics.
After updating my drivers, games are running more smoothly. However a popup came about saying "Your system does not appear to have Intel Rapid Start Technology running." At this point the laptop is still running smoothly, able to boot up fast as usual. Just a popup.

I tried to deal with the popup by uninstalling the old Intel Rapid Storage Technology and Intel Rapid Start Technology drivers and installed the latest drivers from Intel's website. I also tried recreating a new hibernation partition. Here is where it all went downhill.

I was unable to create a new hibernation partition. Despite following the online guides, all I can do is create a primary partition on my SSD.

Funny thing is, when there is no partition on the SSD and I allocated all of it to Rapid Storage, the option to enable Rapid Start on BIOS is greyed out. When I created the 8GB primary partition using diskpart (despite trying to create a hibernation partition instead), the Rapid Start option is selectable again. However it still boots slowly... goes into a black screen saying

"Checking media... failed.

Checking..." then it boots into Windows.

So... how do I begin to create the hibernation partition again?

I have already backed up my data, so I am ready for system reset. However will I be able to recreate the hibernation partition, or System Reset will do that automatically?

Thanks a bunch

Dell Latitude 3340 HDD height

$

So i just bought a Dell Latitude 3340, the one that can be configured here

If all goes well  i should recieve a 3340 with a 500GB mechanical hard-drive of which the platters  spin at 7200RPM.

Since i want to replace the stock hard-drive with a SSD i was wondering about the height of the drive and the height of the SSD i will be replacing it with.

I've done some searching myself and found the following information:
According to notebookcheck.net the Latitude 3340 they reviewed came with a Seagate Momentus Thin SSHD that hard-drive that has a height of 7mm's.

On ubuntu.com a certification for a 3340 can be found that model uses a SSD with a height of 7mm.

Parts People has posted a Youtube video showing a Dell Latitude 3340 HDD being removed at the 01:34 mark it clearly shows that a Seagate Momentus Thin (7mm) HDD is used.

So my question is the following:
Are 7mm high 2,5" SSD's / HDD's pretty much standard in the Latitude 3340, or is there a chance that the 3340 that i will take delivery of Latitude 3340 that is equipped with a 9mm high HDD (and wil thus need a 9mm high SSD to replace the HDD).

Thanks in advance.

Reversing the original downgrade to Win XP SP3 on Vostro 3500

I have an early model Vostro 3500 that I purchased with the Win XP SP3 downgrade as all my other PCs used that OS at the time.  Vostro 3500 is still going strong (went back to factory several years ago for overhaul to fix damage caused by Dell-contracted local service techs) and I am thinking about upgrading the Win side of the SSD to Win 7.  The Vostro 3500 came with a Win 7 32-bit installation CD.   Are there any options Dell supported options for getting Win 7 64 on this laptop, or should I just get a standalone copy of Win 7 64?

xps 15 9530 laptop, sleep/power issue

$

Hello all, I have an XPS 15 9530 laptop, I've owned it for about 8 months without a problem, and all of a sudden about 4 days ago, I started experiencing problems when placing the laptop to sleep.

If the ac adapter is plugged into the laptop when I put it to sleep, by either closing the lid or pressing the power button, the laptop will instead shut down, or reboot.  If I then open the lid or press the power button again to try to awaken the laptop, the system will not turn on.  I have to unplug the ac adapter from the laptop in order for the laptop to turn back on, and when it does come back on it's after having shut down or rebooted unexpectedly.

If the ac adapter is not plugged into the laptop and I put it to sleep, the computer acts normally, no problems there, goes to sleep and wakes up by either the power button or lid.

I have checked the power options, and do has dell support agents, and they are set correctly for the power button and lid.

I have updated every driver and bios recommended at the dell.com/support website.

I have disabled wake timers or anything else that would prevent the laptop from going to sleep.

I have run the diagnostic test from within BIOS, also the one from the dell.com/support website, and also the ones provided the "dell click to fix" application installed by the support agents, all of these tests come back as passed and without a problem.

As of now we haven't been able to figure out why it keeps shutting down when it's plugged in.

Does anybody have any ideas or comments?

Much appreciated.

WiFi keeps dropping connectivity

Computer: Dell Inspiron n7110

I did a fresh windows OS install, installed all drivers in the correct order, but when i boot my computer, the WiFi signal takes a minute or two to finally connect, and then it will very frequently lose signal and show the limited connectivity triangle, this happens about once every 20 mins, no other devices in my home lose connectivity, i checked to make sure all my network drivers are up to date, I've tried assigning my router to a static broadcast channel, I've tried using a static IP address, configured the running process so only essential processes are running, ran virus checks, tried it all..

Any idea what this could be caused by?
