I have an XPS 18. Until last saturday I could use it fine, but after a restart I have this problem.
Now it causes unable to boot into anything on the machine.
The problem itself happens while booting, the dots under the dell logo stops circling, and a blue screen appears that something went wrong. I had to video the sceen to capture the whole message which states that in iastora.sys there's an unhandled exception. Even the tiles (which operating system to start) won't display, means IMHO that the bootloader hangs.
I tried to install a new 8.1 on a different partition, (even a new win10) but that os wouldn't load either.
I checked all iastora.sys files on the volumes, only found duplicates on the system volume, and the provided in the drivers directory in root and the one in the system32\drivers is the same by binary comparison. All of them has the same size.
The startup repair couldn't find any problems.
Also tried to restore to a previous restore point but no luck.
I tried to create a new EFI directory and new BCD on the boot volume, also no luck.
Currently out of ideas, has anyone something to try?
I backed up my important things but won't reinstall the machine if possible.
Thanks!
George
