Weird Touchscreen Issue Inspiron 13 (7000 series)

$

My laptop has this weird problem where nearly every time I use the touchscreen the open screen will randomly (and rapidly) zoom in and out without further touch, then random apps start opening and closing, and the touchpad is rendered invisible so I can't manually stem the incredibly frustrating onslaught of general stupidity. When it starts I have to either wait for it to run it's course (which could be 10 seconds or 2 minutes) or shut down and restart (with the potential to loose any unsaved work). Has anyone else seen this and/ or heard of a fix. I know a call to Dell support will likely yield and answer, but whether it is a true fix and whether I can stand dealing with a phone call with a machine and/ or a laughably qualified tech filling me with canned responses to unrelated questions and trying to sell me an extended warranty.

How do I get Replacement Win7 discs on out of Warranty Inspiron 17R laptop?

I have had a hard disc crash. I can not order new discs through the web form as my laptop is 3 years old and out of warranty. So, theoretically I should call Dell Canada .... BUT ... the tech support number is a paid for service ..

It feel to me profoundly unfair that I should have to pay to get some thing which I have already paid for.

Does anyone know how I can get some replacement discs ?

Many Thanks !

Hey guys, I just received my new 1tb hdd for my laptop and I installed it and such and now im proceeding into installing Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on it. Well.....no dice. I have the OEM serial code on the underside of the laptop and so I downloaded the official windows 7 iso since I don't have the original OEM disk that never came with the laptop.
0xc00000e9
i downloaded it from Malwaretips:
0xc00000e9
Burned a bootable disk with it and when popping it into the laptop, It loads the files half way and they just stops! Then I get an error message in "Boot Manager" error 0xc00000e9'' info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.''
http://appuals.com/best-guide-steps-fix-error-0xc00000e9/
It also says it can be due to unplugging a hard drive or other essential hardware. Its weird though because I'm thinking its a DOA hdd but it shows up in BIOS.

Any help will be appreciated.

Is My Hard Disc About to Crash ??

$

HI - When I open my laptop lid from sleep mode I am hearing a "Click", Click, Click sound near the left hand side of the laptop ( Inspiron 17R) which is where I presume the disc drive is found.

After 3 - 4 clicks the laptop stops, in the sense that the screen is visible but nothing reacts to my mouse.

So, I force a reboot through the power switch. Sometimes it will freeze on boot and again,  I hear the ciicks. Sometimes, it will boot properly. Usually after 2 - 3 tries it boots successfully.

I have run Dell diagnostics on it and it comes out clean. I have runs a disc check on it and it fixed a few things but nothing major.

So  - is my hard disc failing ?? Should I expect a crash ??   Or is this something innocent which can be fixed with some software ??

Hey all,

I have to replace my fan, and I've followed some online instructions, however when I get the point where I have to remove the fan, I can't get it out. There aren't any screws holding it in, that I can see, but it just won't budge....Anyone have any ideas before I pry this thing out and probably ruin this machine??

DVI and DisplayPort problems - Dell E6230 with PR02X e-dock plus and Dell P2214H

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting my monitors connected to my laptop (using an E-Dock Plus). I want to connect them as per http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN115952/EN/  , but here's what happens when I plug in just one monitor to the dock connections:

- VGA, desktop displays fine.

- Left DVI, desktop displays fine.

- Right DVI, I see the desktop but it's corrupted (pink/green and flickering - see attached photo)

- Left or right DisplayPort (connected to the monitor's DisplayPort input), all connected displays (including the laptop screen) turn black until I unplug the monitor.

I see the same behaviour using either of my two external monitors. I have the latest BIOS (v14) and graphics drivers from Dell. My PR02X dock came with the 130W power adapter, which is powering the dock and laptop.

At the moment I have my two P2214H monitors plugged into the VGA and left DVI connectors, but I can't use the laptop screen unless I connect them by DisplayPort instead. Does anyone know why I can't use the DisplayPort? Is the dock broken? I only bought it a few weeks ago and this is the first time I tested the DisplayPort connections, but otherwise it seems to work fine.

Thanks in advance!

USB 3.0 Port not working Inspiron N5110

Dear all,

I'm here because my USB 3.0 ports have stopped working in my Inspiron N5110. I have already tried everything and have not had any results.

The first problem comes when I try to install the Wistron USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver. I double click on the setup icon, and nothing happens. Nothing. I've waited for 30 minutes for the dialog box to appear and nothing.

The other thing is that I'm not getting power from the port (my mouse won't be reconized but the red light won't turn on either). Ethernet and audio ports (they are the ports next to the 3.0 ports) are working perfectly

Is there something you guys could suggest? I'm sincerely very frustrated at this point. It would be great to be able to solve this problem.

Thanks.

Touchpad Driver

Hi,

I've been recently using a wireless USB mouse and keyboard, by Logitech, on a Inspiron 15 7000 series (7547) and am not able to use my touchpad anymore. I've tried looking for the driver in my settings and control panel but have no luck of finding one. Before  using the mouse and keyboard I was always able to use the touchpad, even when they were connected the touchpad was still activated. Now my finger(s) won't even register on the touchpad. I've tried disconnecting the USB and restarting the laptop but nothing has worked. Please help!

Thanks!

Bug Report: A03 bios for Dell XPS 13 (2015) causing keyboard repeating keypresses

This is an odd issue, which I thought I should bring to the attention of the Dell team somehow.

I installed the A03 bios for my XPS 13 a few days ago, when it was pushed out to my laptop. Immediately, I started to get the 'repeating keypresses' issue that a few people have reported. Button presses, especially to the spacebar, started to appear twice when the button was only pressed once. This was an intermittent issue - I'd roughly estimate it was one keypress in ten, if not less.

Surprised, I rolled back the bios to A02, then to A01, then to A00. Only on rolling back to A00 did the problem resolve itself. I'm currently running the A00 bios and the problem is gone. Which is fine, as I didn't have any complaints to begin with, but it's rather odd that a bios update breaks things rather than fixing them.

I'm aware this is probably not a widespread issue (otherwise I would have read more complaints about it) but I thought the team should be aware.

Many thanks.

XPS 13 2015 - SD Card Reader Not Working

I just got a brand new XPS 13 with Infinity Display. The laptop won't recognise any SD cards and the card reader does not show up under Devices and Drivers. The problem is not the cards as they work on all my other devices.

I've updated and reinstalled the device driver multiple times to no avail. Any ideas? This laptop comes with Windows 8.1 64 bit.

Inspiron 15 inch 7548 Fan Over Active Fan Noise

$

I have had the 15 inch 7548 for two weeks now and the fan is very annoying.  It would turn on and off at various times.  Most consistently, it turns on when I start watching a flash video from the internet.  The fan would crank on and then off, and the cycle of on and off would be repeated.  Sometimes, the fan would turn on and off even when I am doing nothing and the desktop is shown.  I have other laptops in the house and they don't display this behavior.  Fan is quiet when I am watching videos.

The fan would normally turn on when I am doing Windows update.

Two reasons why this is annoying:  1) watching a video with the fan turning on and off is aggravating because it is distracting.  2)  The battery life is decreased when the fan turns on and off constantly - sometimes I can only get 4.5 hours of battery life because of this issue.

The fan can be annoyingly loud.

Here's my analysis of what is happening:

1)  Dell might be using a poor choice of fan in the laptop - loud, and only have discrete increments of speed.  It seems that the fans would be on low, med, and high.

2)  The thermal window is not set right in the BIOS - making the fan come on and off too early (low temperature threshold - and often unneeded).

I don't think that my laptop is a defective unit.  This seems more like a design problem.  There are many complaints from people who have the 13 7000 series laptop who are experiencing the same issue.  The latest BIOS upgrade for that system seems to alleviate some of the issues.  I hope that there will be an update for the 15 7548 system soon.

Dell Latitude-e5550 (Broadwell) - keyboard problem

HI, eveyone!

I bought two laptops same types (Dell Latitude e5550, i5-4310U, Intel HD Graphics 4400, 1920x1080, RAM 8GB, 500GB ) from two different shops and they had the same problems with the keyboard. I returned successfully all of the laptops and I bought another (third) from the first shop whose version is newer(Dell Latitude e5550, i5-5300U, HD Graphics 5500,1920x1080, RAM 8GB,  500GB Broadwell) then others. But it has the same problem.

Keyboard problems :

   1) when I typed a button(no matter which button was typed), and I released the button, the symbol appearrs multiple on the screen.

   2) sometime, when I typed certain letter - for example 'c', successfully (no multiple) and after that I put my hand somewhere on the laptop frame, but not on the keyboard, I had the previous problem - multiple typing appears again(the last typed symbol).

I also want to ask about the working temperature and the battery life.

The laptop(Broadwell) working temperature is between 50 - 60 degrees Celsius (and above sometimes) when I am not starting applications or running only one "weight" program. The previous laptops never exceed 45 degrees Celsius or they were exceeding that temperature very rarely(when I am using more applications).

I tested battery life today and the laptop worked at about three and a half hours.

It worked with 60% of brightness and it was idle during the most part of the working time.

I used LibreOffice Writer and some web browsing, but I didn't watch any clips.

The laptop comes with brand new loaded OS Ubuntu 14.04.01 LTS.

I installed the newest version of  Ubuntu, 14.04.02 but the problem with keyboard still existing.

Please, if somebody can help, to reply to me. Thanks !

Regards
