I have a Dell X1 Laptop and it no longer turns on. Is there any way I can determine what wireless card I have in it without it being on at all? If so, how?

New XPS 15 (9530 - 512GB SSD) - does not wake up from sleep when lid opened/takes too long to shut down

My XPS15-9530 doesn't wake up when I open the lid, I have to hit the power button and it shuts down and then restarts, which defeats the entire purpose. The next issue is when I do hit power off, the screen immediately goes dark but keyboard and power stay on for several minutes. So what is going on? This just started happening recently and is beginning to become a bother for me.

Can't keep repairing it

Hello,

I bought my first Inspiron laptop in college more than a decade ago. That laptop was a soldier, it lasted almost seven years on the road with me traveling through dozens of countries for work, and when it finally died, the primary symptom was that it started bricking harddrives, three new ones in a row, and I finally had to put it to rest.

Because that laptop lasted so long and did so well, I felt comfortable spending $1000 to get a new Inspiron to replace it, so I bought a 5720 about two years ago, with a 1 year warranty on it. About 1 year and 3 months into ownership of the laptop, right after the warranty expired, the screen failed, turning into a multi-colored static mess that I had to replace. Right after the screen went, the camera went, which was cheap to replace, but still inconvenient for work. After the camera went, the left mouse button broke under my finger, leaving it half sunken into the body of the machine and very difficult to use. After that, the machine bricked its first harddrive. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve my data off of that drive, so I bought a new WD 1TB drive and installed that, thinking nothing of it. That drive lasted about 5 months, and then the laptop bricked it as well. This time the drive was bricked in such a way that I could not repair it or even access it via USB on my desktop. I lost the data from that drive, which sadly, I had not backed up for 3 months. I took the hit and installed yet another HDD into the laptop. This one was bricked within 7 days, and in the same irretrievable way the last one was bricked. I am currently running a forensic program to try and get back the days of work I had done on it, but the prospects of recovery are not looking good. The laptop has never been dropped. The shell is still in pristine condition, it's just that everything inside of it keeps breaking under daily use.

The short version of this long story is this: I cannot keep repairing this laptop, in replacement parts alone I have come to just about half the value of the device this year, and I would like to know if I have any options to send it back for a refurbished laptop of the same make and model. I've been a Dell customer for more than a decade, but this experience has put me off of the brand. I really don't want to have to replace this laptop after this short a period of time, but if I have to, I won't be buying any Dell computers in the future.

Best Regards,

Chavis Comer

New Dell XPS 13 - Frequent crashes with alarm sound?

$

Hi,

I've purchased a new Dell XPS (early 2015), and have so far enjoyed it.

However, there are frequent unexplained and unexpected crashes causing the laptop to shut down. These happen particularly when I'm sitting with the laptop in my lap and move it around, or even more consistently when standing up with the laptop. These can occur up to 3-4 times per hour!

On two occasions the laptop shut down by itself and was followed by a very loud alarm like sound with the charging indicator on the front of the laptop flickering in amber and white. The only thing that would stop this is pressing and holding the power button to force shut down the computer.

After all of these events the computer would start up normally.

I've tried running the Dell SupportAssist checkups and the laptop passed all of the tests (even stress variations).

What should I do next? I'm suspecting a hardware failure requiring a replacement unit, this is very frustrating.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Problem installing Windows 10 - 4 partitions already created

Hi everybody. I am really satisfied with my Dell Inspiron 14 7000 (7437). I would really like to try the new Windows 10, and I would like to install it in dual-boot with my current Windows 8.1

Unfortunately, it seems impossible. I created a new partition, shrinking the main one. When I choose the new partition, Windows 10 won't install in it, due to the GPT format. I used Rufus to create a GPT USB with Windows 10.

Looking around the problem seems to be the limit of 4 primary partition on GPT disk, already reached due to Dell partition. Can I delete one of them? Is there a solution?

Recently the right click button on my touchpad started to fail. it still has spring but over time it had become more and more fussy. I had to rock the button around to find the "sweet spot" Now it won't work at all and I have to plug in a mouse to use the right click function.  Is this something i can repair or do i have to replace the whole pad?

I recently purchased second hand a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop and discovered its battery is dead. I discovered the following Dell  website and also discovered it is a battery affected by the Dell Recall:

 https://www.dellproduct.com/Program.aspx?PI=GNbVEXZPZu8=

I went through the process in December 2014 on the website and received the following email, confirming my battery would be replaced.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for participating in the Dell recall of certain Sony batteries.  Your order has been received and you can expect to receive your replacement(s) within 20 business days.  You may continue to use your notebook computer safely by turning the system off, ejecting the battery, and using the AC adapter and power cord to power your system until your replacement battery is received.

We apologize for any inconvenience cause by this issue.  Shipment of quality products has always been and continues to be our foremost concern.

If you have questions or concerns about this recall, please feel free to contact us at Dell_Battery_Recall@Dell.com.

I waited until Jan 23, assuming there could be delays due to Christmas holidays and such.  I sent an email to the address included in the body of the email: Dell_Battery_Recall@Dell.com.

And got no response. I then tried again Feb 11, and this time got a message back saying the address didn’t exist.

I have tried the Recall Site again and again received the same confirmation email on Feb 12 that I would get a replacement. Still no response.

Would like to know if this program is still running, and if anyone has had success with this, or if there are exceptions, limitations etc.

Thanks for reading this

Can't Disable Touchpad

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15 3543 that I bought yesterday. I made sure to do all the updates including Windows updates, Dell updates, driver updates, etc to get everything up to date (followed by the appropriate reboots).  I have a Logitech wireless USB mouse installed.  The issue is when I go into the Dell Touchpad setting and select to disable the touchpad when mouse is connected it does NOT disable the touchpad.  I CAN disable it by going into the hardware settings and disabling the driver there, however, I don't want to complete disable it because I want the touchpad to work if I forget my mouse at home. How do I get the touchpad disabled but still re-enable when the mouse isn't connected?

Well , I have a serious problem with my Latitude 3540 with Windows 8.1 shipped from the factory ( Single Version) . Your video card AMD 8850m seems to hang back when sleeping , giving constant blue screens in various names : CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED , KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR , and all linked to ntoskrnl.exe .

I do not know what else to do , I had to disable the sleep function to use the computer .

Hello.

Over the past few days, I've noticed that my integrated webcam cannot be detected. After some time, it is detected again, and this problem is happening again and again.

I've reformatted my laptop, re-installed all drivers but the problems persists.

Is this a hardware problem?

Dell Studio 1555 won't power up

OK, I've got this laptop to repair. Charger is working - tested it with voltmeter. I've done hard reset, but it couldn't power on. I've opened it and what I saw is that the yellow cable from the cables connecting the dc jack to the motherboard is burned close to dc jack. Possibly somewhere in the mobo might be the cause? Thank you.

Sorry if this is not the right place to be asking this, but...  I was wondering if someone could please tell me where I could get a copy of the default Dell desktop wallpaper that currently ships with new Dell laptops/desktops loaded with Windows 8/8.1?

(I have an old Dell laptop that I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and would prefer to use the default Dell desktop wallpaper.)

Thank you in advance!
