Touchpad problem with windows 8, Dell Inspiron N5110

Hi,

I have just upgraded my system to windows 8. I have installed the latest touchpad driver for windows 8, but i am having serious problem. Suppose when i try to move pointer towards left or right, it does not go there, just jump around and very shaky. Sometimes it causes zoom in/zoom out instead of going left/right.

I also tried the old driver, but still same problem.

I noticed that this problem is due to power cable, everything works fine if i unplug it. Please tell solution.

Waiting for response.

Thanks.

Hello, today I purchase new Dell Inspiron 5521with i7-3317U and Ubuntu Edition version 12.04.

I would like to ask HOW LONG should I charge the Battery before start using normally the Laptop for the 1st time. I have another Laptop Dell XPS L502 on which there is indication regarding the battery status. In the quck guide for this Laptop is not mentioned how the battery indicator is changing the colour during the charging and if the battery is discharged. How to understand if the battery is charged enough before using the Laptop for the first time.

The battery was used during testing and visually checking the Laptop in the shop. Thank you!

How can you tell if the power adapter is not working?

I have a Dell inspiron n5110.  The battery was dead and would not charge, nor would the computer start with the AC adapter plugged in.  I bought another battery and it is depleting fast.  The AC adapter is not showing up on the battery icon, therefore I can assume it is not charging the battery.  How can I tell if it is the adapter or the connection at the mother board?   The adapter has a green light on it when it is plugged into the wall.

Thanks for any help

How to boot a Dell Inspiron laptop from an SD card

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop (1 year old). I would like to install a second OS on an SDHC card and use it for some occasions. I was not able to boot this laptop from a bootable SD card which works just fine on other laptops (HP, Samsung, Gateway). It seems that only Dell laptops have a problem with that. They don't seem to treat SD cards as bootable devices. The laptop sees the card just fine otherwise (so the card reader is functional, and the laptop can read and write files to the card). Is there any way (e.g. a BIOS update) to actually make this work? Well, except buying an SD to USB external adapter.

Appreciate any suggestion in advance. Thanks.

Vostro 3560 rescue disk image

Hi

I accidently deleted my restore partition (thought it was the rapidstart partition and had some problems with rapidstart).

Anyway there is no way for me right now to restore my laptop to its default (factory) setting since I was too dumb to create a rescue disk myself.

Is there a way to download the rescue disk image, burn it on a DVD and using it to restore my laptop to it's original state?

Thanks,

Eran.

XPS 12 Fn key?

I'm looking into buying a convertible...

Does the XPS 12 have a sticky Fn key feature you either set in BIOS or an applet? I need similar StickyKeys functionality to Fn that Windows supplies for Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and Windows flag key.

Freezing Latitude 6430U + D5000 wireless dock

I just got my wireless dock and I've experienced two episodes of a hard freeze requiring a hard reboot to recover.  The first instance was just after I connected for the first time and I tested undocking by walking away from the base station.  My laptop locked up once I got out of range.  I rebooted and updated to the latest wireless driver which included a dock driver update and firmware update (which I applied).  I then was running into problems auto-connecting to the dock and after connecting and disconnecting a few times my laptop had another hard freeze but this time during connecting.

When connected the dock works great - display, keyboard, mouse, and headphones are flawless.  However connecting and disconnecting is pretty scary and I'm concerned about system/disk corruption from these hard freezes.

Any ideas?

9300 backlight update to LED

Has anyone tried to replace the backlight tube in a 9300, with a LED?

If so, was it difficult? Does it work as as good as a ccfl? Do you need more than 1 LED tube?

Any info would be a BIG help...

Possible to receive defective reinstallation and drivers discs?

$

My Dell Inspiron n7110 had run into the "infinite startup repair loop" and I decided I was going to do a clean install seeing as most of my files are kept on an external hard drive anyway.  I received the discs from Dell and immediately experienced issues.  The first couple times that I tried reinstalling Windows 7, it froze near the end of completion.  I formatted the hard drive and tried again which solved the problem.  However, once I booted up and tried installing the drivers, my laptop wouldn't recognize that disc (the drivers disc is separate from the Windows reinstall disc).  My optical drive recognizes other CD's and DVD's just fine though.  After numerous attempts the disc was finally recognized, but as I would install drivers and need to restart my computer, I kept running into the same issue and it seemed to get progressively worse to the point that I had to download drivers onto my desktop, burn them to a cd and install that way.  There was some confusion on the order that the drivers needed to be installed though, or more accurately confusion as to whether or not the chipsets were already installed on my laptop because the drivers disc was mistakenly saying they were.  Because of that I thought I'd reinstall Windows one more time and make sure the drivers were installed in the correct order.  When I tried that though, I kept getting a 0x8007045D error partway through the install.  After running MemTest86+ and cleaning the cd numerous times I kept trying and kept failing until today.  It's hard to say how many times I tried and got that error message over the course of this week.  Too many to count.  But now that I'm back to installing drivers, I haven't been able to get the drivers disc to be recognized even once, but my burnt discs are recognized without issue.  I had ordered a different optical drive off of ebay just in case, but this doesn't seem likely since my other discs work fine.  That drive hasn't arrived yet either, so I can't test that out yet.

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

Battery not recognized message in BIOS

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a battery message at boot time, and now it is discharging the battery. I for got to mention that this laptop is new and has been sitting on the shelf for some years and recently put it to use. I have had a very hard time getting the bios update to work and now it is broke again and back to square 1!.  I am not having any luck in getting this bios update to work for the second time. It went bad while I was to upgrading my harddrive because of low disk space. I am at the point of insanity. I think I am doing it correctly Idownload it to desktop and run it as admin it gies through the process of updating without prompting for an answer to go forward, I even ran the flashable rom file a second time because the first attempt failed I also gave it firewall rules to allow. Has there been any success with ending this problem. I have DCSE certification although you wouldn't believe it reading this message. lol

Can I remove OEM or Recovery Partition after I have upgraded from Win 7 Home Edition to Windows 8 Pro?

$

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 17 inch in December 2012 then in May 2012 the 1 TB hard drive crashed.  Originally I had a Recovery Partition, and the OS Partition (C: drive).  I used Paragon Partition Manager to break down the OS Partition into C:\, I:\ & R:\ for a total of 4.  The new drive that Dell put in came with a OEM Partition, a Recovery  Partition and the OS Partition which I split into the C:\ drive and I:\ drive, but it won't let me create another partition for R:\.

Can I delete the OEM partition as it says nothing is used on it, or can I delete the Recovery partition since I have upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and I presume the recovery partition contains the original Windows 7 Home Edition.

You help is appreciated.

Wifi connection issue

I am facing serious issue with my Inspiron 3521. It has Dell Wifi h/w.

The wifi connection regularly disconnects and shows limited connectivity. And too that it does not automatically re-connects. So you have to stop your work and manually disconnect and than reconnect it.

Have already tried updating the drivers but no resolution. Is Dell really looking into this issue, as I observer I am not the only Inspiron owner suffering with this problem!

Yesterday, inspiron would not shut down, so I I pressed the power button and it didn't work. So I took out the battery and unplugged it, when I turned it back on the screen remained black, and I heard a series of 4 beeps. I left it alone for a while and it started up fine, but it still won't shut down.  I have a windows 7 premium. Not only that, but when I try to run/start certain programs they won't respond. That's what happened the first time, and I said oh well and tried to shut down my laptop, and it failed. Can somebody please help me!?!?

Intel My WiFi Dashboard

I have an Inspiron 15r (5520) (Windows 8) with an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 adapter.  I looked on Intel's website, and it says that this particular adapter supports Intel My WiFi Dashboard.  The problem is that I can't seem to find this program anywhere, and I have made sure that I have all of my drivers updated.  I read that this is a Windows 7 program, but it can be run in compatibility mode.  I would really like to be able to use this program because it supports WiFi direct which is really cool.  Has anyone else with a 15r been able to use Intel My WiFi Dashboard.  Is there something that I am missing here?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Would one of the Dell guys confirm who I should be sending the details to for assistance?

I've sent two messages to two different people (20 May and 29 May) and haven't heard anything back yet.

Thanks very much.

XPS L502x problems and now died after engineer visit !

$

Having an absolute nightmare after an engineer visit to fix a touchpad button on my XPS L502x

Engineer replaced the Palmrest, then A few minutes after he had left, The laptop screen went blank and appeared to be going into a standby mode ? Couldn't switch it off via the power button so had to remove battery before powering back up. But after reboot it would do the exact same thing again. Noticed the media touch buttons top right above keyboard were weirdly blinking on and off every few seconds.

Contacted support who got me to run a firmware upgrade at boot up to do with quickset ?. This made no difference and telephone support told me to stick with using it as it is until Monday ! ( Guess it was late Friday and he wanted to go home !)

But since gone to turn the laptop on today and it doesn't even power on at all !  So seems to have died completely. Absolutely disgusted with this situation which has seemingly all occurred since the Dell engineer did a fairly minor palmrest replacement yesterday. Now without my important PC that I do a lot of productivity until support figure out what to do about it .

Not good Dell ! Not good at all.
