COMPLAINT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE

I have given my laptop to Dell authorized Service Center in Chennai ( Address: No 107 Saizburg Square Ground Floor, Harrington Road, Chetpet, Opposite Shoppers Stop, Chennai - 600031). They said they needed to replace the Motherboard. All the payments have been done in December 1 2014. I also received an order confirmation mail saying estimated delivery date December 15 2014. When I used the order number and customer number to track the order status it is showing "Invalid Order Number". Even the people in customer care and Service Center are not giving me any information about my order status. The Service Center people are also not saying the date in which they will finish the work. I feel like I am behind the blinds not knowing what is happening to the part they ordered. Can anyone please help me with this issue

I just received my brand new XPS 13 yesterday and followed the quick start instructions. Plugged it in and pressed on the power button. As soon as the power came on, the fan started blowing and is so loud I cant believe this is normal. I decided to convert from my MacBook, so I'm new to Dell... is this normal? It's so loud, I can't ignore it. Please advise.

Trackpad intermittently not working on XPS 13 running Windows Server 2008

Due to the nature of our business, we require portable computers running Windows Server 2008. The new Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook is more than powerful enough to run this, but an odd problem occurs every now and then.

We have 5 of them, and on almost every one of them the trackpad will simply stop responding altogether. A restart does not fix it, nor a quick shut down. It doesn't happen often enough to be able to consistently test it, but it looks like if it's shut down and left off for a few minutes, it will then start working again.

Has anyone come across this or can suggest anything to try the next time it happens?

I have tried to update the drivers using the latest from Dell, but they are not compatible with 2008.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Good Evening,

I have a Dell XPS|M1530 ,I am fixing for someone, originally with a Microsoft Windows Vista but it stopped working(no further info on how)  so I tried to install Windows 7(Multiple times(4)) and all it does is stack upon itself (When booting it shows Windows 7, Windows 7,Windows 7, Windows 7,Windows Vista). When installing it goes through but stops on the reboot, I did disconnect the USB, but it gets "frozen" on Starting Windows (on reboot of installation). Safemode stops at system32\drivers\disk.sys.

I tried using this method; but this is for cd (I am using an external HD)

Anyone know how to fix?

Dell Inspiron 3521 Touch Screen Replacement

Hi

I have a dell inspiron 15 (3521) touch screen laptop which has a cracked screen. The laptop still works fine except for the touch screen, only 1 half now works.

I have searched and searched but can I find a replacement????? No chance. I have found 1 supplier from the US but they are out of stock, I can't find anything in the UK where I am from.

Can anyone help with this? I only need to buy the screen as I can replace it myself but finding the part has proved impossible. If it's a dell only part do they supply replacement screens for these?

What is an SMO8800?

I've a latitude E5410, on which I've just installed Win7Pro. Everything installed quite OK, but I'm left with an unknown device that identifies itself as "SMO8800"; and I can't figure out what it might be nor where the drivers are.

BTW - before you suggest, no data nor software came with this machine. The generic copy of Win7Pro did not come from Dell.

Dell Vostro 15(3546) Motherboard defunct

I bought my Dell Vostro 3546 on September 2014 in India and had to move to Germany shortly.

Last week, my notebook refused to switch on. I gave the online videos a try and after having failed to revive it, called the Dell Germany Customer Care. After 30 minutes on the phone, they had come to a (rather depressing) conclusion that my Motherboard is fried. They promised me to change the motherboard, free of cost.

After about one hour, the service representative called me to inform me that the motherboard cannot be replaced here in Germany and MUST be sent back to India for replacement. The reason that they had stated is that the Motherboard for this laptop is available only in India and China.

Considering the rather huge shipping cost, to and back from India, and the duties that tag along with it, I'm forced to store this brick of a laptop in my closet.

Has anybody faced a similar problem and resolved it.

I live in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Unsatisfied Student Customer

Dear Dell,

I am writing this email to make a complaint about my Dell laptop. I am student and I was in need of a durable laptop. I thought of Dell and decided to buy a dell laptop (Dell inspiron 7000 series, 14 inches). My tag number is<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> . This laptop was bought sometime in April/May 2014. Upon receipt of the laptop, I was excited and rest assured that I have  not only bought a sleek laptop but I will be sure to use the laptop for a long period of time.

My assumptions were proved wrong when I started using this laptop. In the first week of use, I noticed that my laptop does not come on after it goes to sleep, I usually have to force it to shut down and switch it back on which is not good for the "health" of the laptop. I again noticed that after a while, the laptop started coming on after going to sleep but this meant that my keyboard light will be left on and the keyboard was not functional, I had to make do with the keyboard on the screen. I called Dell and the technical support tried all they could but this was not resolved. I then requested for a replacement.

A replacement was sent and I was experiencing the same problem and again, I called the technical support office and of course, it was not fixed. As a student that had a lot to do and could not manage to be sleeping in the library in order to have access to a computer, I always had to shut down my system all the time. Again, I woke up one day and my keyboard as well as my mouse pad stopped working and I called Dell as usual. They technical support officer spend about an hour trying to fix it but to no avail. They promised to send me a parts replacement and also send a technician down to my house but by the next day, the laptop started working normally.

Two weeks ago, the LED light on the charger adapter just went off and I was unable to charge my laptop. I called Dell and they promised to send me a parts replacement. A supposedly new adapter was sent without a power cable so I used my old power cable but alas! this did not work either. I called Dell technical support to lodge another complaint and they promised to send me a new power cable which was promised to be delivered the next day. Till today, I am have not received the power cable. I did not receive any call or email explaining to me that there a delay in dispatching the power cable, instead, I had to call to follow up only for me to learn from the Technical support guy that the power cable has not been dispatched.

I have been without a laptop for a week now, I have assignments piled up and I am helpless. The previous problems have not been resolved neither have I received a new power cable. The most annoying thing is that I recommended this same laptop to my friends and they all bought theirs from Best Buy. They have not had any issue with their laptops and they did not even pay as much as I did. I have had my laptop for just eight months and I have not enjoyed it. Please help plead my case for a refund or a brand new fully functional laptop. I am tired of calling dell to fix one problem or the other.

I look forward to a response to my email.

Best,

KA

Inspiron 17R N7010 keyboard price

$

I am looking to replace a keyboard on a Dell Inspiron 17r N7010. I notice there is also a Dell Inspiron 17r whose model number is N7110.

First question if any one can provide more than a guesstimate...

Why is the n7010 keyboard more than twice the price of most keyboards? Typically a laptop replacement keyboard falls in the $20 range. The N7010 seems to fall in the $50 - $70 range. This is not a backlit keyboard.

Second question...

Are the keyboards for the N7110 and the N7010 interchangeable? I see the N7010 has two posts to hold it down and the N7110 does not. I wonder why the N7010 is so expensive compared to its cosmetic twin.

Thanks for the info,

Ron

Unknown Device Driver Latitude E5540

I have been running in to an issue lately with a Latitude E5540 laptop.

The specs are:

Intel i5 cpu @ 1.9 ghz

4 gb RAM

x32 Windows 7

In my device manager it says that I have an unknown device and there is the warning symbol next to it. When I go to update the drivers it says that it can't find any drivers (I am connected to the Internet). I looked at the hardware ID and noticed that it was APCI\SMO8810, I then proceeded to research the driver, which I found was the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor Driver. I also know what it's primary function is.

The issue I keep running in to is that I have uninstalled the driver, and tried to re-install the driver from the Dell downloads. However halfway through the process the install wizard tells me that the most recently updated driver from dells site is older than the driver I currently have installed. (even though it says there is no driver installed)

Help? Let me know if you need more details.

Inspiron 17-5000 Series Auto-Dim

Inspiron 17/5000 Series Non-touch running Factory OS/Drivers with Updates applied. Win 8.1

I have created a custom power management plan (high drain, high performance, no sleep allowed) and despite turning off 'adaptive display' or whatever it is in power management settings-my display continues to alter it's own brightness while on battery power. It seems to be somewhat adaptive, movies, dark backrounds and the display will be at max. This page (largely white) causes it to dim.

Since this issue doesn't present itself while on AC power, I believe it to be power management related.

I'm assuming I'm missing a setting somewhere. Adaptive brightness is off, 'Dell extended battery life' is also off. I looked in the BIOS and didn't see anything about power management there.

Second question: I'm assuming Dell doesn't provide a license for Win 7 for those that want it? I see Dell offers drivers for this laptop for Win 7 and I'm considering downgrading.

Entering BIOs Win8 vs 8.1 and UEFI

I've tired about 50 times to enter Setup/bios by using the F2 key. Does not work! Then learned this method will often not work on Win8.0 because of the UEFI thing from MS. One must use the charms to access UEFI and then startup/bios.

I'm also told F2 works on Win8.1 because UEFI was removed on 8.1

is this correct?

M4500 Precision bios problem V07 to V08.

I recently purchased a refurbished  Dell M4500 Precision lap top with an Intel I7 quad core processor, Windows 7 pro 64 bit and 8 gigs of ram. . I can not update the Bios past ver A07. I have followed all the recommendations I have read in older posts but I still cant flash the Bios.   I have tried making a boot CD and USB stick. Neither one worked.  When I click on the the Ver A08 bios download  I get the normal screen asking for the OK and I see it unpacking but thats all. When I check I'm still on V07 even after restarting the computer.  I followed all the instructions from other posts on here to no avail ( see link below). I have seen hundreds of thousands of people posting on the web without any results. Can someone PLEASE help me with this problem?

Red blinking charger light XPS 14Z Win7

$

About three weeks ago, I came in to the machine to begin my day.  The machine had been plugged and charging through the night, status=Hibernated.  This is my common practice.  I immediately noted the Charger light on the hinge was blinking alternately white then three or four quick red blinks rather than the usual steady white when the charger is plugged in.

I interpreted it as some sort of alarm; but after an exhaustive look, running diagnostics, searching DELL website and viewing the User manuals, I cannot find an answer.

  • ·         I checked the Windows 7 battery app and the DELL Battery Meter and “Battery Health” showed the battery to be performing normally.
  • ·         I went to DELL support and ran the battery diagnostics which were OK.
  • ·         The problem is seen always several hours of charging with no activity; and it is intermittent.  It has happened several times since the first time.  It happened again this morning.
  • ·         I made the assumption that the red light was a warning and the battery was failing or in trouble – no.
  • ·         Then I thought it might be due to overcharging.  If so, shouldn’t the problem be every time I leave it on overnight?
  • ·         Note my solution: If I unplug the machine and go on battery power when the red light is blinking and do work on the machine, when the battery goes down 10% or so, the red blinking light stops.
  • ·         My machine is otherwise working well.
  • ·         MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE AN ALARM ON MY SYSTEM TELLING ME SOMETHING RELATED TO MY POWER SUPPLY/USAGE, MAIN BATTERY OR MAYBE PERHAPS THE COIN BATTERY.   AND…  I CAN’T DETERMINE WHAT IT MEANS.

Checking the originality of battery

I bought a laptop from a friend and I think the battery is not genuine even though it says Dell J1KND. I have this doubt because the battery dies pretty quick and the laptop in just 6 months old.
