Cannot use Intel Rapid Storage Technology to Accelerate after replacing SATA hard drive.

I just replaced the SATA hard drive of my Inspiron 14Z (5423) with Dell recommended replacement part (Manufacturer Part# JT37D) but have noticed that the computer is much slower than before which is very surprising since it is pretty much empty with the exception of Microsoft Offices.

Then I've found that the accelerated device is "inaccessible" from the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application. As shown in the pics.

My question is: Is this because the hard drive was installed incorrectly, or because the problem is with the hard drive itself as it is not the same model as what originally installed in the laptop?

If it was because incorrect installation, what do I need to do to correct it?

Thanks so much!

Dell Latitude e5520 keystroke lags, doesn't respond, slow, unresponsive

I have a Dell Latitude E5520 and lately it has been extremely slow, and characters on screen tend to lag far behind my keystrokes occasionally not appearing at all. Sometimes when I click on a button it will lag for several seconds and then go through, other times nothing will happen at all and I will have to click the button again and it works. Recently the laptop was taken on a plane and the in-flight wifi was used, that is the only thing done recently outside of the normal routine. Apologies if this is a repost, but I've looked this issue up and every thread seems to be a dead end, with the original poster never responding to say whether or not the problem has been fixed.

I have booted into safe mode and the lag still occurs. I have antivirus software installed and up to date.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dell Inspiron with External Peripherals

Have a new Dell Inspiron and would like to explore using an external monitor, external keyboard, and external mouse - creating a virtual docking station without the actual docking station.  I'm assuming I will not have an issue with connecting USB mouse & keyboard.  I've come up with some questions:

1 - Any issues with connecting a monitor to HMDI port with HMDI-DVI cable?  I know Fn+F8 allows me to change display.  If I set it to an external monitor, will that setting stay after a reboot?

2 - With all the peripherals connected, I could (in theory) have the laptop off to the side.  Will the laptop "sleep" when I close the lid?  Is this a configurable setting?

3 - If I can operate the laptop with the lid closed, is there anything that can be done with the power switch because it is covered when the lid closed?  Any options to fit another power switch or modify the configuration of the standard one?

This is basically a way to see if I can replace my old Latitude with an Inspiron, or at least use my personal Inspiron in the same home office setup as my docking station.  Any chance there's someway (??) to hook an Inspiron up to the port replicator in the docking station through USB?  Any and all input, thoughts welcome and appreciated.

Hi

I ran a diagnostics ePSA test on my Dell Inspiron 3540. It gave me the error detailed as:

Error Code: 2000-0142

Validation: 79886

Message: HD 0 s/n - xxxxxx, short self test unsuccessful

My system is working fine except that whenever I play a video file in VLC, it stops close to the end and then after a while the system hangs.

Please help!

I have an Inspiron N7010 (Win 7 Pro) and needed to repair the OS. I purchased a USB key from Dell (P/N 04P7X9) and when I booted the USB it came up with a warning that the platform is not supported. Did I receive an incorrect part?

The OS had been corrupted and was flagging my system as having a "Not Genuine" version of Win 7.  I didn't purchase a restore/reinstall CD when I purchased the laptop (my bad) and the partion was too small to use the retail version of Win 7 Pro I have from my Desktop.  I continued the process and it seemed to lock up.  I exited and rebooted the system and the problem seems to be resolved but the initial screen telling that the platform is not supported has me worried.

XPS 13 - L322X - fan on and off even when it's cold...

Hi, I’ve had my Dell XPS 13 laptop for over a year now and to date I still find very irritating and distracting hearing the fan going on and off for no apparent reason while I’m working.

I decided to post again regarding this same topic ( this is my third) as this time the room I’m in is really cold at the moment, also the laptop is freezing as It’s been in the room all day. As it was quite cool I was expecting the fan to calm down a little compared to other occasions. To my surprise the laptop’s fan is going on and off as if it was a summer day.

Since I started writing this email the fan has started and stopped 4/5 times, starting loud at the beginning and then calming down a little until it’s completely silent and then off it goes again.

I’ve been told by DELL that as it’s a small laptop it constantly needs cooling down so the fan goes off more frequently, this doesn’t make much sense  to me as the whole laptop is still cold.

Anyway I know I won’t get a response  with a working solution but thought I’d post it anyway.

Thanks.

(The fan has just gone off again making it 6 times… it’s just annoying as, at least to me, it was a very expensive purchase).

Bypassing the Port Replicators Video Output

I have a E7240, a (brand new 32 inch) 4k monitor and an E-Port Plus.  Several of these setups actually, I am a huge fan of the E series laptops.  When I plug in the new monitor into the side of the integrated mini display port on the laptop, it works fine, I get the full 4k at 60hz.    When I connect the laptop into the dock, it automatically routes the video signal through the ports on the back of the dock.

Note that this is an older E series dock, not the E-Port II with USB 3.  So the display ports on the dock are not "DP 1.2".   Everything else about this dock is great, the gigabit ethernet, audio, power, USB, etc. These are all I need --  I don't want to purchase the newer dock for over $200 more dollars.  My preference would be to just drop the laptop into the dock, and plug the monitor cable into the side integrated mini display port, directly on the laptop.  Yes, its 2 connections each time, but its just a few seconds to do it.

I figured that I could go into device manager (Win 8.1, 64 bit) and disable the video on the "dock", but it doesnt appear that simple.  I've been reading up on some forums and Dell claims that it is a "pass through", hence the name port replicator over dock.   Unfortunately, the reality is that it is a pass though with a downgrade of the video signal.

Any ideas on how to "route" my video signal directly out the (natural / integrated) side of the laptop, rather than through the dock would be appreciated.   I've got several of these setups and at 200 a pop, that is a lot more money to add to my already expensive 4k monitor upgrade(s).

Data recovery from failed XPS laptop hard drive

Hi,

I have Dell XPS 2013 laptop purchased in June 2013 with Windows 7 professional OS install in it. Suddenly the laptop stopped working giving an error message with complete black screen:

error: no such partition.

grub rescue >

When I took it to the service center they told me the hard drive of the system might have failed leading to such error. I am still unsure is it due to hard disk failure? On the top of that I have many important working files stored in the system for which I could not able to take back up. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? If I need to purchase a new hard drive which specifications I need to order. Unfortunately the system had only 1-year warranty period. Thanks

Inspiron 5520 - Intermittent Boot

I have an Inspiron 15R 5520 with a strange problem which I can't see mentioned elsewhere in the forums.

Most of the time the laptop boots OK but every 10 or 20 times it fails. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed, no lights appear anywhere on the laptop. After several presses of the power button most of the time the laptop boots,  Sometimes it takes much longer.  I have tried removing the battery and power supply and holding the power button sometimes this seems to help but this does not reliably ensure a boot.

One other thing - there is an LED on the Caps Lock key, this is always illuminated it increases in brightness when the Caps Lock is actually on. I'm not sure if this is normal - it seems unusual.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest version and reseated all the RAM and run a Memory check which shows no problems.

Any thoughts anyone?

XPS 1645 Wont Post volume indicator lights flashing

I have been working on this computer for quite some time. It originally had some water damage on the motherboard, which caused the screen not to function. I was still able to boot the computer and use it through VGA.

To fix the problem I purchased a refurbished motherboard. The motherboard i received powered on but did not post. The fan spins up and all the volume keys are lit, while the volume down flashes. After researching the error code it pointed to faulty memory or a faulty motherboard.

I returned the motherboard and purchased a NEW motherboard. After installing, I have the same issue. I Have tested the board with multiple compatible memory modules, and it still refuses to work. I have also tested the display by holding down the "d" key while powering it on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Apparently my Inspiron laptop has and LCD failure (beeps) at startup and completely black screen. Is there any easy fix? I purchased the laptop in 12/12, used for a year, then issue with screen and the laptop sat for a year. Dell tech support wants to charge $275 to replace the screen. Is this something I can fix myself?

No Power, No Lights lit up, Nothing. My Inspiron 3510 doesn't Switch On.

Hi guys,

My Dell Inspiron 3510 doesn't switch on anymore. It doesn't show up power lights lit up on it.

I don't know, what to do? When I asked Dell Service Stn in Mumbai, they said it will cost me about 15000 INR, because the entire motherboard / process will required to be replaced.

Its not evn 2 years, and the issue like no power rised. I enquired couple of my IT friends, and what they says is that, it goes in the scrap, and if I spend 15K INR on just to replace its internal board etc., rather, I will get a new one.

It has i5 processor, 4GB Ram, 15.6" display, 750 internal Hard disk, Windows 7-Ultimate. Whats the use of higher configuration, if all of a sudden issues such as no power arises.

Can someone reply ASAP with some cheap in cost suggestion please?
