I am at my wits end and I'm hoping someone can help. Something happened to my N7110 and it will not boot. It starts to boot, everything looks fine, gets past the Windows splash screen, but the desktop never appears -- just the wallpaper with a mouse cursor sitting in the middle.
Every other boot option ends the same way, if it gets that far.
I have lost all of the original materials -- it turns out I kept an old Dimension ResourceCD with Windows 98 and got rid of the CD for this machine by mistake. I've downloaded the Windows 7 ISO from Microsoft, and used their tool to make a bootable USB drive, but now I'm running into an error about a missing CD/DVD driver. I've learned from other threads that this is probably actually a harddrive/SATA issue, and I need to download the driver from Dell for it.
Ok, that's great. But I can't figure out how to get the driver because the Dell support site wants to scan the computer to confirm the correct drivers and configuration before allowing a download. But I can't boot the machine to access the dell website without the driver.
Any suggestions out there?
Thank you!
