Inspiron 1564 updating BIOS, not enough battery, won't charge

I have researched threads on here regarding this problem, including the checklist at the top.  Thank you for that! But I cannot find help with this problem.  I began getting the unknown AC adapter message.  my BIOS has never been updated, Version A01. Guessing I need to keep that on my list of stuff to do. Battery is currently 5% charge, not charging. WIth NO battery in, power cord works. Battery health report says battery is performing well. Tried to update BIOS but it will not with less than 10% charge.  I had another power cord, that did not charge it either. Is there any way to do this without the battery at 10%??  Thank you for any assistance.

battery was not recognized, not compatible. Plugged in, not charging

Okay here's a long story :

- Laptop's motherboard replaced, got new battery and AC adapter

- turns out Dell gave me the wrong motherboard, I had an intel i5 and the new mobo was i3

(since this service was done 1 day before me moving permanently from Chicago to New Delhi, there was no way to fix this, stuck with the i3)

- after new mobo, everything was fine except the battery.  dies. Message in the battery icon was "plugged in, charging 0% available" a couple days ago

-left it alone for 2 days and now whenever i boot up i get a battery was not recognized, not compatible, and would not be charged by the system message. Message on the battery icon is "plugged in and not charging

-If I unplug AC power the battery dies.

. I really do not think its a problem with the actual battery although its still a possibility. It could also be drivers. are there drivers specific to a mobo i should be installing ?

I already tried

- disabling and uninstalling ACPI, although when i scan for hardware changes it appears like it never uninstalled. it just pops right back.

- taking out battery and power supply. shutting down. pressing power button for 30 seconds. plug everything back in and reboot.

-same thing as above but reboot with only power supply, and putting in the battery later

I'm pretty terrible with computers. PLEASE HELP.

Dell Inspiron 5720 - Windows 8 won't boot up

I have a new Inspiron 5720 (bought in January 2013).  For a month or more I have had a problem getting it to boot up past the "Dell" screen.  It would go to a black screen and if I press "enter" it shows "F12 boot options."  So, for the past while when this would happen I would press the power button and power off and then power back on.  It would always boot up normally the second go round.  However, tonight it only boots to this black screen and will not go past.  This product is still under warranty but I hate to take the time to get a new one.  I am in graduate school and want to avoid a "reset" if possible as I have lots of work saved on the hard drive.  Thanks for any help on resolving this issue.

Where's my CDROM?

I have an e6530 that I bought last summer. Recently my CDROM seems to have gone missing, as far as Windows is concerned.

This came with Windows 7 Ultimate. As recently as a week or so ago I was watching DVD movies in this thing OK. Not I cannot get the CD/DVD drive letter to come up in File/ Manager/Windwos Explorer. It's not listed under Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Managment, Storage/Disk Managment. It's gone.

The BIOS screen does appear to think a CD/DVD drive is present.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology has an atapi drive listed, which sounds OK.

The CD drive sounds like it is checking an optical disk when I turn the computer on.

I've removed and reinserted the drive several times.

I've now installed Kubuntu Linux via Wubi, and am able to select that from a boot menu. This was done before the optical drive vanished from Windows. I am able to access cd disks from Kubuntu. Seems like the hardware must be OK.

Back in Windows after several reboots, and no optical drive anywhere.

I looked up how to get to Add Hardware wizard in Windows 7 and tried that, it does not find anything new/missing to add a driver for.

How do I correct this?

I have no SD card installed on my Dell D600. What should happen to the black and the white wires?

Should they be connected to each other or isolated from each other?

Hello! I have no more hair left to tear out, so I'm hoping someone can help. I have an Inspiron 5520 that came with Windows 8. I ditched the Win 8 and installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. Windows works fine, but I can't install any drivers. I tried to install them in correct order, as outlined elsewhere on the site (Article ID:268873). When I try to install the very first one, I get the message: "system doesn't meet minimum requirements"  What the....?????

Faulty hardware in 2 month old Inspiron; appalling customer service

WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT IMAGINABLE !

We had a new inspiron delivered on the 24th December 2012. In the middle of March (2.5 months later) the left hand hinge broke one day when closing the cover. This separated the lid from the base on that side. Since the computer had only been used on a DESK and had never been dropped or otherwise mistreated, we were very surprised and found this a right nuisance but fully expected a rapid repair under guarantee from DELL. A technician talked to my son, insisted that he'd broken the cover and said that breakages were not covered by guarantee. We then spent two months arguing with customer "support" who refused to understand that the cover was not broken, and that we had not "broken" our computer, and just insisted that we pay for the repair. This was without any inspection of the machine.

After 6 weeks of this runaround we really needed a computer and were forced to replace the effectively unuseable two month old DELL computer with a different machine (we don't buy a computer unless we need it). We’d warned Dell, but why should they care?  They certainly didn’t decide to proceed any more quickly or effectively.

After seven weeks, seven or eight emails, two phone calls, a couple of twitter messages  and a reply to a “customer satisfaction survey” (not satisfied; computer not mended)  we finally came to an arrangement whereby they sent a technician to the house to repair the machine. The technician brought a cover, and when he saw the computer asked: “but didn't you tell them it was the hinge, not the cover?". Yes we had. Repeatedly. My son said that he'd said that at least five times to the technician on the telephone; I'd sent several emails, in the end with capital letters. We'd sent a photo. Wasted journey for the technician, wasted morning for us. He ordered a new hinge and returned the following week to install it. The replacement cover went back to DELL along with a message from the technician that he didn’t believe it was a “breakage”. No apology from Dell for their faulty diagnosis, failure to repair their faulty "guaranteed' equipment for weeks and for their outrageous demand for payment for something that should be covered by their contractual guarantee.  This was not “breakage” due to “accidental damage” or “transport”.  Any inspection of the hardware will show this totally unambiguously. Nor can it be described as normal wear and tear in a two month old portable.

Unfortunately the replacement of the hinge, and removal and replacement of pretty much every other component in the computer to install the hinge, left the computer unable to boot. It just hung on the DELL logo. Dell customer support asked me to validate an intervention to replace the mother board (under guarantee this time). Well, I'm not a Dell technical expert, so it was very unclear to me why a computer that runs its diagnostics, and doesn't find any problems in the hardware, might require a new mother board. So I refused, saying I had no time for a third morning off work, that I wanted an agreement on compensation and an extension of our guarantee to cover the weeks without use of our computer, and that I didn't believe it needed a new motherboard. Another ten days delay and a further seven emails to your customer support.

Last weekend I got fed up with looking at the non-booting computer, so I hunted around your forums, found out how to fix the problem and fixed it. So I have saved Dell the cost of a new motherboard and the cost of sending a technician here to install it.

Last night I spent 45 minutes on the phone arguing with your customer support that they'd made a faulty diagnosis that had cost me hours and hours time, cost my son lots of time (it's a machine essential for his work and he had to transfer everything to a different - lower spec - computer) and meant that we'd had to replace the computer and that I expected a decent commercial gesture and the time back on my guarantee. I pointed out that their technician had made a SECOND faulty diagnosis of our machine and that I'd fixed it without changing the mother board or having a technician round.  I sent them photos of the computer before, during and after repair, and photos of the defective hinge that the technician left me (more time).

Today (15 May) Dell have agreed to add two months to our guarantee (why isn't this automatic?) and they're offering my son, who is not a child and uses this computer for work, a… batman game as compensation. I'm certain this post will be removed instantly if I type what I really think about this. Is Dell a serious company?  Professional? Or do they just take the <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character  removed as per TOU>

It seems, from my conversation last night with customer support, that Dell have a default position towards customers: many customers lie, so any hardware that fails isn’t repaired under guarantee unless they have “reports of problems” with the same model.

SUMMARY. Unreliable hardware, and appalling customer support.

I also note that Dell have not, despite me suggesting it several times, requested the broken (totally jammed and in two parts) hinge. SO... does this mean that Dell knows all about the faulty hinge issue and prefers not to abide by their contractual obligations to customers? does it mean that they would rather not know about the fault? or does it mean that they still consider us total liars even after the report from their technician? It certainly seems to me that any reputable company would want to investigate. And Dell, with this appalling behaviour, has lost us as customers, has lost many of our friends, colleagues and neighbours as customers, has lost my business workplace as customers, and has cost themselves a vast amount of time dealing with my emails and calls over the last two months.

Is the warranty void if fans removed? And battery problem.

My Alienware m17r4 laptop is acting very hot lately, and I checked the fans on the bottom and there were lots of dust. So I think thats the problem, I tried vacuum cleaner but I think its not effective enough. I read the manual about removing the fans, so if I open the case and remove the fans, is my warranty then void? Or are these parts which can be replaced by user.

And another problem is the battery. This keeps telling me that I should change it. I just tried how long it will last when I unplugged this, started watching a movie and the battery was dead after 1hour and 5minutes, which is quite low performance in my opinion.

I bought this in last october.

Loud Mouse click on laptop

I've got an Inspiron 17R and after sorting out the loud fan noise, I am now battling with the loud clicking mouse sound.   It has a mechanical metal clicking sound and it is to loud compared to the quiet and subdued sound of the keyboard.

We had to download a patch to the Bios to get rid of the excessive loud fan speed and noise and I'm wondering if there is some other magical fix to rid my laptop of the loud click each time I use the mouse keys.   I don't use an external mouse.

Does anyone know of a 'fix' for this please?

Thanks

Sheila

Dell Inspiron Mini 10v OS Install Issues

Hi Everyone !

I do not know if im posting this in the correct place but here we go,

My grandfather had bought me a dell inspiron mini 10v as a gift. I had replace the 16 gb drive with a 320 drive compatible with the pc and installed windows 7 on a instead of the original windows xp. I also installed Ubuntu on the drive as well so it was a split partition. I soon came to realize that the Ubuntu was taking the majority of the drive space. So I went into device management and deleted the partition. I later restarted the computer. when I turned it back on I received an error. so I made a bootable usb with windows 7 on it and I went to repair computer and used diskpart to delete the partition and cleaned the whole hard drive. knowing I was going to delete the windows OS on there. I went into install now and when I got to the hard drive selection screen to choose where I wanted to install it on. it gave me an error saying : "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.  See the Setup log files for more information"

This happens every time no matter what I do i've tried almost everything i could find online.

Latitude E5530, Unknown Device, Dev. Mgr

I just dropped our corporate 64-bit Windows 7 image onto a new E5530.  This system is considered "unknown" (non-standard) in our environment, so the image was missing a good portion of drivers. I downloaded all the drivers from  http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/servicetag/xxxxxxx    after having set the OS to 64-bit Windows 7 and turned off the filter so I could see "all drivers".  After installing almost every file from that page, I still have an unknown device under Other Devices.   If I look at the properties for Unknown Device, Details tab, Hardware Ids category shows 3 lines, all starting with "IUSB3\ROOT_HUB30&VID...".  Does anyone know to what this refers and which driver I need to resolve its "unknown" status?  Thanks much,
