Hi, I've got a m3800 running windows 8.1. A few weeks ago the touch screen stopped working. If I remember well it stopped working after a windows update or even dell updates, but not sure about this. Drivers are up to date and firmware A05 is running. "View pen and touch info" says : "No pen or touch input is available for this display". There are no tablet PC settings in control panel. A colleague of mine has the same laptop in device manager he has listed 2 HID compliant touch devices, my device manager shows none of both.
I googled for a solution, but so far without luck. I'm wondering if a windows update disabled tablet features ?

Has anybody experienced something similar ? Any help would be appreciated !

I am having a nightmare with this Laptop, I have only had it a week and so far I have been unable to use it. I currently have an open thread about another issue but now a new issue has come up. 

I was asked to update the BIOS as instructed to A01 which I did, now when I go into the bios to alter settings every single option is greyed out, I literally cant change anything like I could before like boot settings, AHCI mode, USB settings etc , the only live options are creating system passwords. 

What is going on, Im really thinking about sending this thing back. 

Its a new 2014 Inpiron service number <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

Please Dell can you sort this out for me

I am extremely frustrated with my Dell laptop.

Amongst other things that I hate about it, I can't disable the mouse on the keyboard (the touchpad). My other laptops had a button and you just turn it off and this one doesn't. I have wasted so much time trying to find out how to do that. The hot key combination Fn + F3 doesn't work. I read about some drivers need to be installed or uninstalled but couldn't do that either because I am not that advanced.

Please help me - I need just a simple explanation how to do that, that doesn't require me having an IT Bachelor's Degree!

Hi,

I have Dell inspiron 15R SE 7520 with onboard intel graphics card and AMD 7730. However my AMD graphics card never seems to be working. I have recently purchased a 2560 x 1080 monitor. I wanted to run my computer in higher resolution.

After going through the dell forum, I came across a link which mentions that my AMD 7730 is compatible with the monitor. However the I am not able to get this resolution. 

When i run the Dxdiag i always see that intel graphics card as working I have tried uninstalling the graphics card. But nothing seems to work.

Please Help.

Hi, 

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. 

Problem:

After two years, my laptop starts to have reduced performance in gaming and watching streaming videos. 

I did a factory reset. Everything seems fine. 

I did a test by installing Warcraft 3 which I played with no lag at all. 

After that, I started to install/ update the Graphic drivers, Windows updates and installed Starcraft 2.

Then I played Warcraft 3 to test the performance and it lags like for every 2 seconds in game. 

Please note that I test my system by playing WC3 after installing the following individual items:

Item 1: Graphics driver

Item 2: Windows updates

Item 3: Starcraft 2 

Please note that I did three (3) factory resets.

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 1, WC3 lags. 

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 2, WC3 lags. 

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 3, WC3 lags. 

  Please note that I did a hardware diagnostic test and I pass all the tests. 

I also did played around with: 

1) Power Settings 

2) Nvidia Control Settings and used the my graphic card instead of integrated video card.

But I am still facing the lag. 

At the moment, I am using my laptop at the factory settings and not installing any drivers or updates. 

Can the community please advise on how to troubleshoot my problem?

I have a 6430u that has a clean Windows 7 x64 reinstall performed (not using Dell image).  I have reinstalled all the drivers available from the support page at Dell.com.

Whenever the machine resumes from sleep, the CPU gets pinned at 18% usage constantly.  This can be seen using the Sysinternals Process Explorer, which indicates this is from the "Interrupts" process.  "Interrupts" is a pseudo-process which indicates activity within one of the drivers.  LatencyMon shows either ACPI.sys or tcpip.sys as the biggest problems, with ACPI.sys consuming a huge number of ISRs.

The issue goes away if I reboot, but comes back after a sleep/wake cycle.

This is most likely a driver issue, and it will cause CPU heat, which in turn will run the fan constantly and also kill the battery life.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

hello fellow dell owners, my n411z fan keeps turning on often. i was wondering what is the avg temp it be running at and what is the top temp i should be looking out for before it overheats? thank you in advance

I have a dell Inspiron 15R model N5010 laptop and just encountered this problem recently. Whenever I press the shut-down button, it tries to shut-down but kicks back on immediately. I am unable to shut-down my laptop and the only way to shut-down is to press the actual power button. 

I recently purchased a replacement battery for the laptop but not sure if the new battery is causing the issue. I tried with the old battery as well and with no battery at all (plugged in) but the laptop still wont shut down. 

I have tried almost everything from disabling the start-up programs as well as services to replacing the CMOS cell but no luck. Tried to search for a solution online but nothing yet. Can you please help me with this? I have no other choice left other than pressing down the power button which I don't want to keep doing as it might mess up my hard drive some day.

Hi,

With Windows 8.1 update 1, it's very difficult to keep Numlock turned on.
I tried with many registry tweaks, but they all fail when Windows "Fast start up" feature is turned on.
While searching solution in Microsoft forum, few MS guy pointed to Numlock setting in BIOS.
But I couldn't find any Numlock related settings in BIOS (ver.A09).

To Dell, please provide Numlock option in BIOS.

If any other working solution (with Windows "Fast start up" on) is there, please reply.

So, I was on my computer with it plugged into the charger. Earlier in the day my computer warned me of something along the lines of the charger not being compatible which I knew was incorrect because it is the same charger I have had and used for 2 years without fault. I unplugged it and replugged it a few times and it seemed to be working correctly.

Fast forward about 6 hours (still plugged in) and I shifted a bit to get more comfortable moving my laptop with me. The screen goes completely black, all the little lights at the bottom of the laptop are off and the light that indicates that my charger is on was off. I tried turning my laptop on a few time and it would not reboot. I went into the other room to get my roomate's charger and I plugged that into the wall and it worked fine so I knew that it was not the wall plug that went out. My charger still will not turn on. I plug my laptop into the borrowed charger and try again to turn it on. I have to hold the on button down several different times but eventually my laptop turned back on and seems to be in good working condition.

I am aware that it is working now and that technically means that I do not have a problem, but if someone could tell me what happened and how I can prevent it in the future that would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but I do not see a more appropriate forum to post this question. Recently, I have learned of external hard disk drives being manufactured with 4k formatted sectors. I purchased one to replace an older failed external hard disk drive. To my disappointment it was not compatible with my current backup software, which is on a desktop computer. Until that software is updated that machine must remain unprotected from a lack of a system backup from a bootable USB drive. In the meantime, I am only able to backup data to a USB stick. Once again the consumer is caught between a rock and a hard place in the interim. Is the Alienrespawn backup software compatible with this format? If not, when will it? Does Alienrespawn backup files in their native format? Will the external hdd become bootable if the computer's hdd fails? Will Alienrespawn allow the external hdd to be partitioned? That would allow an original copy of the computer to reside in one partition and all future backups of the system, programs, and data to reside in the remaining partition, if that is possible. Thanks for any assistance you may provide in making this as easy as possible for an old man to understand. I maintain a love/hate relationship with computers. Good heavens...I just noticed the time. It has taken me hours to locate this area.

I'm new to laptops but I have experience with desktops I even built a few myself...

the laptop in question is a Dell Inspiron E1505 "Inspiron 6400" Service Tag: 505Q8C1
My goal is 4gb ram.

Upgrading the cpu from the 1.66 dual core to something a lil faster

video card upgrade?

I read that some people did all this to this computer and I'm not sure of what parts to look for and if I can even do it, I also heard that some of them are limited by the chipset to only 2gb and 2gb only regardless the os used...How do I figure this out before I go out and buy the ram?
And before ya'll say I should just buy a new pc, this was a gift and its for a child, I'm just tying to make it a lil better for his birthday.

Hi

My wifes Latitude 10 has stopped working. 

When you press the power button, the power light and also the LED to the right of the front-facing camera both come on. Nothing else happens - no backlight, no POST.

Any ideas or is the device toast?

Please let Dell know how many of  you  are experiencing the following problem:

I regularly find that,  with a  single keystroke, my brand new Dell Latitude e5540 laptop randommly produces 2 spaces (most often) and double letters (sommewhat less often than the doubled spaces, but consistently and  predictably). The faster I type, the more oftenn the errors occur... I have  found  it to be an issue of how hard I strike the keys. The keys  controlled by my dominant right hand are most often affected whereas those controlled by my pinkie fingers NEVER have been affected.

I  amm only one of many employees at my place  of  work who all are experiencing the same problemm. I have asked repeatedly for Dell to let me know the extent of this problem and whether they have a recall of this model (which, as far as I can tell, is pervasive with this particular mmodel). My persistent questions have never been answered by Dell, despite numerous contacts with 3 different agents.

Please join me in pressuring Dell to address this problem.

If you notice double letters where there should  be single letters or   extra spaces in this e-mail and this post scrippt, please read on for the reasonn: I am using the brand new Dell Latitude e5540 computer our school system recently purchased to write this e-mail. I have simmply givven up  editing my typing... you're getting the spontaneous errors caused by this computer so you can see for yourself and hopefully help me to motivate Dell to fix the problemm soonner, rather than latter.

  IMPORTANTLY, if you are having similar problems with YOUR BRAND NEW Dell Latitude e5540 laptop you specifically will NOT have tthese problems if you use an external keyboard... it only occurs with the laptop's built in keyboard) PLEASE send me your servvice  tag (S/N) nummber from the bottom of your Delll LLatitude e5540 computer and I will include your commputer in my conntact with Delll about this problem. (It is  a problemm of this particular model... I have never experiennced this before with any other computer).

I'm trying to capture screen images in Windows 8 (Metro) and I've read several things saying that you can do it with (Windows Key + Print Screen) but it doesn't seem to work.  I've noticed that Print Screen is on the same key as a button called Insert, so I'm wondering if that's why it doesn't work.  I've tried holding shift and control to see if it makes a difference, but still can't do it.

 

I wish I could use the snipping tool in Metro, but it only seems to work in desktop mode.  Is there a way to use the snipping tool in Metro?

Windows Version: XP Home Edition SP3

I checked the disk management. There are 3 partitions and one of them has a volume name DELLRESTORE, status is labeled healthy but unknown. I've tried several times to press Ctrl+F11, it beeps for a while but it never brings up the Dell PC Restore by Symantec. I also tried F8 and the advanced startup options doesn't have the repair or restore option. Is there any other way to restore it? Some sort of software or something? Please help me!
