Inspiron 15 5735 won't turn on

If anyone can help better than calling customer support, I would greatly appreciate it.

I bought my niece an Inspiron 15 7537 Touch last week for high school graduation, which she takes around to friends' houses because she is essentially homeless, so I don't know what happens to it 95% of the time. I have to make her bring it to me because I have been trying to troubleshoot wifi connectivity problems (customer service not helping much with that). She lets her friends configure things for her, which burns me up. It runs Windows 8.1, with which I am not familiar, I have Windows 7 as my latest software. I hope all this background info is enough to help and even TMI.

Just tried turning it on today, and nothing is happening. The backlighting for the keys is on, but no screen, no sound (no beeps), nothing. I have it plugged it, and when I do that, the battery light comes on, but then again, that happens with my own 5110. It still does not come on, nor does it appear to turn off when I press the power button. It literally does nothing, and the backlighting for the keys stays on.

I asked her if she has been plugging it in to charge it, and she said no. I asked her if she turned if off last night before putting it in her car overnight, and she said she doesn't think so, it probably turned off itself.

I am thinking it's a dead battery, but I don't know why it wouldn't respond to being plugged in. I'm tempted to pull the battery out for a moment and put it back in, but since that involves a lot of screws, I want to be sure it's my best resort. I read another question on here where someone said that this laptop should be able to run plugged in without a battery, which is why it bugs me that it isn't responding to being plugged in. Help!?

Fresh Windows 8 install, Windows won't let me use nvidia graphics vs Intel.

Hi, all- I recently purchased a new Inspiron 17 7000 series laptop and after using it for a while I grew tired of the poor performance and odd hard drive configuration, so I decided to change it.  I replaced the existing hybrid hard drive a 256 Gb SSD for my boot disk and replaced the DVD drive with a 1 Tb HDD in a disk caddy.  All went well with the install using a fresh copy of WIndows 8, I have loaded all the proper drivers and software and have no issues there.  The problem I am having is getting the Windows OS to use the nVidia graphics card instead of the integrated Intel graphics.  Yes, if I install a game or program I can tell it to use the nvidia card, but I want WINDOWS to use it.  I can tell it isn't because I can't get the aero look.  It was working on the original install that way, but even with a clean install it wants to use Intel.  I can find nowhere that it allows switching it off.  I can't disable it because then the system wont run.  I couldn't NOT install it because it wouldn't allow me to install the nVidia software without first installing the Intel software.

The Intel Rapid Refresh is worthless - it was taking 30-45 seconds to "wake up" regardless what settings I tried.  Once I set this up my boot time from off is about 10-15 seconds, and wake time is almost immediate.

I know that maybe I'm being picky, but it bugs me that I can't get Windows itself to run on the nVidia card and look good.  Anything anyone else has tried that worked?

I am working on a Dell Inspiron m5010. The problem is that it keeps restarting at the dell splash screen over and over again.

Here is what I have tried

running the dell diagnostic tool which comes back good

Trying to boot to the windows CD which it won't

I finally pulled out the hard drive because I thought maybe it had a bad sector but the extended test came back good. Oh and let me tell you for as many hard drive replacements I have done on laptops this one is just ridicules to get to.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

E6400-Processor Upgrade Options

Hi...

just a small question since i am bit confused with the greek dell support and several sites on internet.

I own a e6400 with p8600 (2,4 mhz) processor. My question is what are the available processor upgrade options?

My local support insists that the maximum processor is T9600 (2,8 mhz). Several forums over the web include T9900 at 3,06 mhz and the following dell page

http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/latit/en/Dell_Latitude_E6400_E6500_Spec_Sheet.pdf

tells me about T9900.

Thank you in advance ...

Touchpad gestures/scrolling/pointer not working after windows 8.1 update on Dell Inspiron 11 3137

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

Issues with switchable graphics on Windows 8.1

I own an Inspiron 14Z 5423, which came with Windows 8. The device has switchable graphics, which can be configure through the AMD Catalyst Control Center. However, after the upgrade to Windows 8.1, the AMD Graphics Card no longer works. If I set a program to run with the AMD Card (on the Catalyst Control Center), the program crashes. I can only run games, for example, with the Intel HD Graphics 4000. I tried reinstalling all drives from the CD that came with the computer, as wells as from the Dell website. None of them worked. I reverted back to Windows 8 and everything worked fine with the drivers provided on the CD. But now I am back to Windows 8.1 to try again. Invariably, the drivers provided on the Dell website never worked, on either operational systems. Has anyone had this issue adressed?

Conclusion: my AMD card is currently useless and I don't plan going back to windows 8, since the upgrade to 8.1 is not major and should not ruin the drivers. Also, it would be really nice if Dell could update the graphics drivers provided on the website to meet AMD's new releases.

Thank you.

XPS 13 (L321X) stuck on Dell logo

Hi,

XPS 13 Ultrabook does not come out of hibernation/sleep mode. It remains stuck at the Dell logo screen. Since the beginning this model has given all kinds of problems and this seems to be the last straw.

Did everything conceivable - like removing the battery, hard drive, coin-cell battery that is suppose to reset the BIOS, etc., but to no avail.

I have scoured the web with the hope of finding a possible solution, without any success. I came across this forum which had similar discussion threads but are pretty old now, but am hoping to see if someone can help.

Thanks

VOSTRO 3350 mSATA SSD question

Hi,

Can I insert an mSATA SSD into the mini-PCI WWAN socket of the Vostro 3350 in order to run the WIN7 from it? If yes, then which SSD types are proposed?

There is already an open thread from 2011 on this question but it has not been clearly answered since that. Has anyone got experience on this issue meanwhile?

Latitude E6320 SD card reader issue

$

I've just purchased a refurbished Dell Latitude E6320 Laptop running Win7 Pro 64bit. One of the reasons I chose this machine over others available in the same price range was it's rugged build and built in SD card reader. I'm a professional camera man and shoot a lot with DSLRs so having a machine that I can carry around and back up my data without the extra hassle and clutter of an external reader is a nice feature.

The problem is that when I insert an SD card that was formatted in my Canon DSLR into the built in 02Micro Integrated SD reader in the Dell, it will not read the card and tells me it must be formatted before it can be used. I've checked all the drivers are up to date etc and seemingly it's all functioning correctly. Is this really the case? Were Dell supplying machines in 2011 that would not read SD cards from the worlds largest camera manufacturer? What is the point of an SD reader that will not read cards formatted in other devices? Canon uses pretty standard FAT-32 formatting as far as I'm aware.

Can someone let me know if I'm missing something here.

Thanks

dell inspiron 13z does not boot

$

Hello,

I have a month-old dell inspiron 5323 13z running windows 8 that stopped booting yesterday. I had a problem with booting since I got the laptop, namely the boot always stopped and had to press ctr+salt+del to continue the boot process. Dell support recommended the usual things: updating the bios, the OS, resetting the system to factory settings with no effect. Finally, I have decided I can leave this minor annoyance until know when it stopped booting at all after hybernating the system (there was no problem with hybernate before this incident).

So, it displays the dell logo for a short time when powering up, then the screen goes blank but not completely black. After pressing some keys like space a text  'f12 options' is printed in the lower right corner and en empty horizontal bar may appear. Then typing ctrl+alt+del or some random keys the boot may continue and at this point it may be possible to enter the boot menu by pressing f12. So I can change the boot option to uefi or legacy, but neither works. There is no option to boot from USB or anything else (no DVD drive anyway!). So I cannot even try to boot a linux live CD. However, i remember that these options existed before before in the boot order or priority list which is empty now. I can run the pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu, but it does not find any problem.

Any suggestion how can I revive the system. By the way, I am stuck abroad for 2 months with this no use iPod charger.
